It opens just fine for me, Emma. I hope you can get it resolved. It works like a charm so far.
I haven't tried the BV features yet, that's next. Other than that, it does what I need it for. Which also isn't that much. Just your average SimPe user stuff.

I got it, Inge. I don't have any SP, but I just finished installing the game on a new computer. So there isn't much to back up, and the computer is brand spanking new. Less chance of it, or an already borked game having anything to do with SimPe's performance.

I remember trying to explain how statistics works (very basically) to people on the BBS back then. They didn't get it.
I would probably have fainted if they did get it. What a mess that stupid 'twin' thing was at times. Sheesh. Thanks for the heads up with the borked stereo. I thought it was more EAxis crap. The game audio seems terribly wonky.

All is well with mine too. Although I don't do coloring, cloning, modding for ts2. But the casual SimPe users interfaces all work fine for me.
Hooray for Inge (and Peter, of course).

I was under the impression that the cops would only come if you had music outside. I have to look into that once I can play again.
According to TJ's abduction rtfm - if I understood it right, the stopping action resets his mod to the beginning again. The odds get better, the longer a sim looks through, but re-start from the top once the sim stop-starts. I don't know if that applies to non-modded telescope behavior though. I have to re-read TJ's rtfm again, maybe he meant that this goes for all telescope usage.

They work fine for me, Kaci. I just finished freshly installing everything to a brand new computer, from Base game to BV (no stuff packs). All my CC is in sub-folders, lot's of them. Everything behaves as expected. My mods are in subfolders within a subfolder, and they work as well.
However, when I first started, I went into the game, and no CC showed. I saved, left, and went in again, and only then did the CC show up.

Lawdy, Gwill. That sim looks meaner than Crumplebottom. The perfect shover.
I don't know about the zodiac signs. Those seem to do a little (emphasis on little) something in the attraction arena. Other than that, I could never see a discernible difference in either interest points or personality points, save for the cut-offs. Like 4 ticks in interest stops the sim from doing the 'finger in the ear' or related stuff.
Sims with 4 ticks in nice, neat, and playful also show a visible difference, but active needs more than 4 to make the sim run. I haven't had the chance to see for myself yet, and it will be a while before I can.

Thanks Jolrei. I just finished getting Zazasu's cheat-sheet in the other thread. the 'moveobjects on/off' is usually best if aliased, I think. Zazazu has it that way too.
It was the .txt extension. That was quite silly of me. I blame the snow, because I can't think of a good excuse. I had that feature un-ticked on my old computer, but completely forgot about doing it on this one. I'm loving my new computer. It plays everything like a charm. I can see fish in the ponds, the water is blue, not grey, and I can hear sim-footsteps. I wonder what else I'll find out that I never knew existed.
For the first time I can play Oblivion on the higher resolutions. Fabulous, absolutely fabulous.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The 'intProp maxNumOfVisitingSims[number]' cheat is not working

Just double check the file is named correctly. Text files usually put .txt on the end of files. If your userstartup.cheat is called userstartup.cheat.txt it won't work. You need to turn on the option in Windoze Explorer to see the file extensions. Don't know how to do that in Vista.
In XP it's under Tools/Folder Options/View/Hide extensions for known file types. Take the tick OFF that option.
That would be the step that I missed. I had it turned off on my dead computer, but I completely forgot about it on this new one. That was pretty dense of me. I downloaded your start-up to see if that was truly all that was wrong. Being lazy (or frustrated), I used yours, Zazazu. It has what I had, except that I always have controlPets on. I don't mess around with their own decisions much (free will - all the way), but I don't like not having the possibility of controlling all my simmies. Thanks, now I have almost everything back, except a few things from obscure websites that have since bit the dust and are nowhere to be found in the graveyard. I have been playing since 2004, so that was not something that surprised me.

I had trouble with the userstartup.cheat too. I had it in the diseased computer, and it was working like a charm. I tried to put it in the newly installed TS2 in my new computer, and it wasn't working. The new computer has XP, so it couldn't have been Vista related. I did it the same way I did the old, working one. I'll try again, maybe I missed a step.
Great visuals from Elfie. They will be most helpful. I'm a visual person too, meaning I find it easier to follow visual instructions where computers are concerned. That's an area where I'm not too secure...yet. Thanks for the link, Zazazu.

Thank you Lyra. I had the mod, and it was running as advertised in my game. But my computer took it down with it. That was one of the little here and there mods that I could not get back, because Jordy pulled it.
It was running as it should in my now dead and gone neighborhood, Zazasu. I never use the marry option without move in first anyway. It's a personal preference.
I just finished installing all the TS2 stuff, but for some reason my userstartup.cheat isn't working. Dammit all to blazes, I'm doing it the way I did it the first time around. Why, oh why isn't it working now?

Are the cars and downtown a nightlife only feature, or can you manipulate the game into allowing at least drivable cars? I have all the EP's and no stuff-packs, and I have installed them all on my new shiny. I don't want to do without the car or downtown. I don't go there often, but they are important for me to enjoy playing, especially the vampyres.

Thanks for the tip, Blue.
I'm typing on my new laptop, as we speak. So I'm getting ready to put all my stuff on it as soon as finals are over. I'm not looking forward to all the installing.
As far as using their downloader, I guess I'm just a little paranoid, especially where Eaxis is concerned. I always like to have a disc, but if you are not restricted to a certain date, or a certain number of downloads, it should be find. Like a virtual storage drive.
I like some of the H&M stuff, and would put it on my holiday list but I'm hesitant to get it in any form from EAxis. I don't want the sony malware on my new computer. I've looked around, and I think I saw it falling off a truck. I might wander over and pick it up sometime. Way to go EAxis.
How did you fare? I hope you were successful with your own computer re-do. I would really like to know how the stuff managed to disappear. It seems to happen to quite a few people.
ETA
I found them, thanks again Blue. I did look in the Swallow, but of course, I managed to look in the wrong forum parts. Searching for Simsbaby brought them up right away. I really appreciate your help, those pajamas are sweet.

I wish I could help, but I usually just use Monique's computer to deposit any monies that are due my simmies at move out. I never differentiated between dorms, greek-houses, or private houses. I calculated what they made/earned and deposited it into their bank account. When they returned, all they had to do was get another Monique computer and withdraw their deposits. Often I just left it in, because after depositing 1000+ they usually got interest. Not all that much, but it helped a little for the start-outs.

Thanks Joe, that makes sense. I thought it would be one of the sims with the least nice points that was selected by the game.
Hmm, it makes me wonder how that works in a new hood then. If you still have the assorted families in the sim-bin and the houses. Do they already have character-files associated with them, or do they get one once you put them in game? The sim-bin sims must already have one, because they are used for walk-by sims. Or is it the first CAS sim that gets the honor?
Gah. I wish I could look. Where the hell is that computer? Come on Fed-Ex, get the lead out!

I agree. The strays and the penguin are supremely annoying. In Uni-land I usually ban the coach and the professors. Unless I want to use the coach for skillpoint acquirement. Then I briefly allow her/him. It annoys me that those coaches just interupt my simmies, and they don't follow rhyme or reason. They beleaguer even those YA's that have maxed body-skill and maxed fitness. What the hell is up with that?
I love to be able to make specialty hang-outs. Like a teen hangout, elder hang-out, etc.

Yeah, I have a lot of work ahead too. I'll have to re-install everything, I just wish my new computer would hurry up and arrive. I'm telling ya, Finding the big girls and boys for mods was a cinch. I'm still hunting for the little stuff, the here and there things. One of my favorite re-color site has closed up shop. Some of their stuff is in the graveyard, but no pictures. Sigh.
I had some GL stuff in my old game. I know I had the pajamas and the clothes. I have no idea where I got them from. Someone on one of the sites must have briefly put them up for download, because I don't have the pack.
When you buy things from a game-company's downloader (whatever that is called), do they send you a disc later on? I've never downloaded anything but demos directly from the seller, and I wonder how that would work. If you don't have a disc, do you lose everything if you have to re-install? And possibly have to buy it again? Hmmm....

If the matriarch/patriarch of the hood is the shover, then Loki and Circe Beaker(I could be wrong with the last name), the scientist couple who experiment on Nervous Subject, must be the leading citizens of Strangetown. Because that is the one hood where I actually played long enough to have my simmie look through the telescope and had Circe come over and practice hostility on my pixel person.
