26  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: The dreaded jump bug on: 2008 December 02, 21:27:57
I hope I did this right.

Edit: I seem to get that pop up option to reset whenever an NPC comes by (the newspaper girl, the maid, etc).
Oh and sims walking by brings up the error too.

I got quite a few error logs so I zipped them and uploaded them here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/njq1hh since the files are too big to upload here (it's 1 MB).
27  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: The dreaded jump bug on: 2008 December 02, 21:06:35
I've never debugged before, how do I do it?
28  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / The dreaded jump bug *SOLVED* on: 2008 December 02, 21:01:19
I just installed M&G, which updates Apartment Life (I hadn't patched it yet before) and now my sims suffer from the jump bug. I never installed the Freetime or Apartment Life patches because they kept reupdating them and I was worried they'd bork my game. Is there someway to fix the jump bug, I'm not sure what caused it but it was working fine before I installed M&G.
29  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Sims unable to join in watching tv on: 2008 July 24, 20:09:35
For some reason, sometimes I don't get the option to have my sim join another sim in watching tv. It doesn't matter the tv, it's happened with all of them. At first it just started in the college lots, then it progressed to the neighborhood. Anybody know how to fix this? I never had this problem before freetime. It's not the fault of any custom tvs, I tried without them and still had the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edited to add: The other functions (work out, watch movie, etc) also fail to show up for the sim not watching tv when another sim is watching tv. When he or she stops watching tv for another sim to watch it, then the other functions show up, allowing that sim to watch the tv (or do whatever). But the next sim still can't join to watch tv or anything else.
30  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Game crashes whenever I click on misc->baby/children and decorative->curtain on: 2008 April 05, 13:37:42
If you acquired those sets from the booty, there was something flaky going on, but the same sets from the original source were fine.  I had the same crashing problems, and then waited an age to finally get my mitts on the originals for testing.

If you still want those sets, try the booty again.  I can't tell if those sets were updated (the booty needs a better system for indicating fixed files really, really badly), but I forwarded everything I had to the fine pirates there.

I probably did. Thanks for letting me know, I just removed them as I found some great Tikki related things from Parsimonious.
31  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Game crashes whenever I click on misc->baby/children and decorative->curtains on: 2008 April 04, 11:13:19
I got a new laptop, very exciting stuff. It has windows Vista, not very exciting. My old laptop has XP. I thought I'd put my sims 2 on the Vista laptop, but instead of putting my sims 2 folder on here, I'd just put the downloads folder in. I really wanted to start fresh, so I figured it'd be fine.

So I was going through buy mode, went to the deco->curtains and the game crashed. I removed every curtain I could find and it still crashes. I went to Parsimonious to redownload some objects they have and ended up going download crazy (but they're all nice, neat and organized and I'm working on putting them in collections). Then when I played my game, I went under misc->kids stuff and the game crashed. When I click on "curtains" or "children" the game automatically crashes, I don't get any errors (only Vista saying "this application has issues and crashed".

Now I had this problem with the Wardrobe and End Table sections of buy mode (both let me get to the second page of their 'gallery of stuff' then crashed). When I went and removed all the wardrobe (dressers) and random end tables (I left the Parsimonious ones in) it stopped crapping out on me. I tried running in debug mode but as I figured it didn't help any.

Has anybody else heard of a similar problem and know how to fix it? I'd really rather not go through and place each object in my downloads folder one at a time. That would take too long and knowing my luck, I'd still have the same issue.

Also, random Vista question: Whenever I close IE it always acts like it's an error and restarts it on me. I use Firefox usually, but some things just won't comply.
32  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Abandonated Mods Needing Updates for Free Time on: 2008 March 27, 17:12:55
Shift click on the sim and give them electronics, if you run in debug mode.
Alternatively, use TwoJeffs' college adjuster to give them a cellphone.

I don't run in debug mode, but I do have the college adjuster. Thanks for the suggestion!

Monique never replied to that message, I don't believe anybody has heard from her and I have a feeling we can consider her mods abandonated.
Before someone will decide to upload somewhere an updated version of MQ computer need to be sure that Monique is retired and her mods
and objects is abandoned.

She hasn't been seen at either MTS2 or InSim for 5 months.  FT has been out for about a month now, and she hasn't logged on anywhere to say whether she will be updating or not.  Apparently, she hasn't responded to an email asking if she will be updating.  Her mods look abandoned to me.

Alexx, how long do you suggest we wait before it is reasonable to assume she isn't coming back to the Sims community?  6 months, 12 months, 2 years?  Or are we supposed to wait forever, if she never posts a "I've left the community, feel free to update" post?

I just hope she's all right. I vote that her mods are abandoned and someone should update them (specifically her computer). 6 months of waiting for it will make me put the Bon Voyage version in my game which will frak with my game probably. Just my luck. If she pops back up and complains then whoever updated it could be all "but you've been gone for 6 months and people wouldn't stop complaining" and then remove their version if she so asks. But when you've already been gone from the community for over 5 months, I'd think it's safe to say she's gone. At least for the time being.

Though I may just be saying this because I'd kill for an updated version of her computer. My sims need their cell phones! And I don't like sending them to community lots, with the loading and the waiting and all.
34  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: John Mole: Seriously Borked? on: 2008 March 26, 15:59:40
I had this happen to him a well. But that was before I got the hack that was supposed to prevent this. Later, even with JM's hack, I had another sim who was a finance aspiration sim and they weren't happy with being engaged. I thought it might just be because he wanted to marry a rich sim and 58,000 wasn't rich enough for him.
35  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 March 26, 12:14:45
With the gypsy, I get the lamp and tons of random townies showing up at my sims' door at random times at night. Ones I've never seen before.

Also, the gypsy randomly gave a lamp to my young adults over at college. I found that to be helpful, as my sims needed an aspiration boost. Usually she just gives it to my sims at home, this was a first at college.

Note, my sims no longer jump when reading about parenting or when writing a novel. I had two hidden hacks that borked those things, so I'm glad that annoyance is over.
36  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Abandonated Mods Needing Updates for Free Time on: 2008 March 26, 12:09:56
Someone's mailing Monique to see if she's intending to update, or how she feels about someone else doing it.

I'm curious what the status is on the message that was supposedly sent to Monique about updating her mods. I find myself missing them so and I can't stand the computers that are there now. They seem so...dull. And I hate having to go to a community lot just for a stupid cell phone.

The hacked computer did not scan as needing updates, so I would guess it probably works as advertised, only without any new FT functionality.  Has anybody had problems with it?

I have noticed that with Monique's computer installed, my Sims are not able to look for jobs on ANY computer.  They can still search by using the paper but if they try to search for a job on the computer, they sit there endlessly.  This same error occurred before it was updated for Seasons and Bon Voyage as well.

Even without her computer, I have my sims jumping from writing a novel. They can write one with the laptop, though all they get is money. All my sims want to do is read novels, but even when my sims have all their creativity skills and all they do is write novels, they still can't get a novel to read. Are they supposed to go out and buy them, or do they receive them in the mail someway? I could have just misunderstood what I read.

But the jumping is annoying.
38  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 March 10, 21:05:29
Someone at N99 has isolated the problem regarding super-fast dropping motives and no-autonomy:

Quote
I have been having trouble with two things in particular. One involves their needs dropping too fast. They will not eat, bathe, use the bathroom until they are in the red - and even then, sometimes I have to direct them to do it or they STILL won't. One thing I did notice, is that even when they are eating a meal, for every tiny bit the meter goes up to the right (filling it), you can visually see it jump to the left (depleting it!). There is definitely a problem with this, and frankly, I think this is one of the most serious game issues I've seen out of any expansion pack. It definitely affects gameplay no matter what you are doing with your sim.

The other problem I've noticed is what I call the "standing around like an idiot syndrome". Specifically, sims will queue up to do something, maybe talk to another sim who is obviously busy (maybe riding the exercise bike), and the sim will stand there forever, never giving up and moving on to something else. The way my game used to play, before FT, was this might happen but within a reasonable amount of time, the sim would either get distracted and move on or would realize this won't happen anytime soon & move on to something else. With FT, they will DIE standing there if you let them. I notice that they even do this THROUGH walls! If they are in one room and another sim is in the adjacent room, they will queue up at the wall parallel to where the other sim is and stand there forever waiting on them. Also, there is an issue with the attraction system where they will follow someone around that they are attracted to even when they are in complete needs failure with SEVERAL things all at once. More times than not, I find all my sims in a household (I've been playing Uni dorms/greek houses), all bunched up outside the front door swooning over some highly attractive sim that has just returned from class. They won't come back into the house/dorm for 6-7 hours, no matter if they are starving, stinking to high heaven, etc.

Anyway, back to my experiment -- I tried playing several households and refused to assign any of the new Lifetime Aspiration Benefits. Guess what? None of those sims had a problem. They function as normal. When they are even halfway hungry, they cook/eat. When they are dirty, they bathe. So, all these newfound problems in my game are definitely tied to the Aspiration benefits. I plan on having all of the ones I had previously assigned use the ReNuYuSenso Orb's "reset lifetime aspiration benefits" feature today to get rid of them (until EA comes out with a patch that fixes this) so my game can function enjoyably again.

My sims haven't been having that many problems. They still can take care of themselves, as well as they used to, at least. They go shower when they are still in the yellow/green, eat, all the usual things.

Also, either it now takes forever to get flower arranging badges or there is something wrong with the lot (the same one). Unless I'm mistaken, it shouldn't be taking several days of constant arranging (enough to max the respective hobby from zero to max) without getting to bronze.

I just thought they always took this long to meet the badge requirements. I'm trying to get my one sim a robot badge and it's at least been a week or so and she's not even bronze yet. She keeps making little toy robots. She's spending so much money on it I just made her go into business.

I kind of like the gyspy bug. Not all my sims get random lamps, but I do miss the old sims 1 lamp. I need my sims to make friends easier, not love. Because it's hard enough to get them to friendship without worrying about the love.
39  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 March 10, 20:58:16
It's not that, my sims will read with their fun meters full. But when they try to read the parenting book, the sim will sit down then jump up and the book will no longer be in her hands. So none of my sims are able to study parenting, no matter what house it is that I tried.

This with maxis bookcases as well? Seems like you have a wonky file somewhere, either a hack that needs updating, a hack conflict or just a badly made bit of custom. I once had a custom sink that caused errors on all the other sinks.

I've only been using regular bookcases. But I suppose I could take out any custom ones that in in my downloads folder. Even if I'm not using them, they're still there to cause problems. Strange that it worked once with a bookcase but then after that, not at all. I also had my sim jump from the desk whenever she tried writing a novel using the desktop. But it's fine if she uses the laptop. I've taken out all my custom computers, but I may have missed one so hopefully that'll fix that too. Naturally, the simplest answers are obvious ones.
40  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Abandonated Mods Needing Updates for Free Time on: 2008 March 08, 22:43:03
I don't know if these need to be updated or not, they're Squige's.

BottomLessFoodDish.package
MoveAwayFromFridge.package
NoMorePuddles.package
PetsBedStayClean.package
WriteTearmPaperFaster.package

They seem to work fine for me, though I do get a puddle every once in a while.

I really miss Monique. Specifically her <a href="http://www.modthesims2.com/creator/showthread.php?t=64137">Hacked Computer</a> and her <a href="http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=65844">Hacked Bookcase</a>. Her bookcase was never updated for BV, but I still used it. Now I'm holding off for FT because I've been having problems with sims getting books. I really miss those two.
41  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 March 08, 22:23:26
My sims can't study parenting. I was able to have one person in one house do it, but now everytime the sims take the book, sit down on the couch and jump up. I've only got FT-DC and a couple TwoJeffs updated for FT, so I don't know if it's just my sims that don't like parenting or what. Any suggestions? I have all EPs and SPs and only updated for FT hacks.

Also, I'm sick of my sims coming out with the same hobby enthusiams. I do have some variety, but I have to keep changing them so I don't get all these cusine/tinkering geeks.

Is their fun full? I noticed that I had to drag one sim's fun meter down a notch to get him to sit and read about parenting. All of my other sims with not so full bars were fine.

It's not that, my sims will read with their fun meters full. But when they try to read the parenting book, the sim will sit down then jump up and the book will no longer be in her hands. So none of my sims are able to study parenting, no matter what house it is that I tried.

Yes, music Sims hum, whistle, and drum on their legs.

I find this very annoying, I hate whistling.
44  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 March 01, 01:32:28
I've been following this thread with interest and am wondering if there is any redeeming quality in EP7.  Aside from the bugs, EAxis appears to have tripled the irritation factor.  It sure doesn't sound very appealing.

Any load time and lag issues?

The loading for FT is much better than BV was. Though, I was just going from one hobby club lot to another one (I think it was the third or forth one I'd been to) and it kept loading and loading and loading so I finally gave up and closed it via task manager.

Not so much borked as an extreme annoyance to be stomped on. The endless cacophony of telephony due to hobby-lot NPCs phoning to say: o hai you wanna join mai club?

Oh god, my phone's been ringing off the hook! It's very irritating, I can't wait to see a hack that squishes that annoyance. And they keep showing up saying "here's your award for being all into our hobbies!" I mean really, how often does that happen in real life? I've never gotten an award for being into film and literature, or gaming and computer or reading or any of that stuff. Though I won a music award, but that was because I played in front of people, not alone in my room. And I know the sims are "vaguely based on real life", but how do hobbies=phone/visitor spam?
45  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 February 29, 16:53:28
Another bork: For some reason my sims keep popping out of their chair when using a computer (any kind, sending/checking the computer). Sometimes they'll be doing a certain action (also, any kind, from talking to cleaning the bathroom) and they jump out of said action. I don't have any hacks or CC (only updated MATY stuff). I'm using the no-cd crack. Also, last night I spent my time building a beautiful house for a new family and when I went to save it, the application crashed on me. I wasn't happy at all and now I'll have to rebuild for them again. I looked and saw people referencing the jump bug, but I didn't see one for this stuff. Sorry if I missed it.

Vanilla game myself. I resurrected gramps wife. He knows that's his wife, She knows that that is her hubby. Her son is her son and her grandchild is her grandchild. She aparently does not like her daughter in-law as she does not acknowledge her in the least. Is it unusual for In-laws to not be seen as family? It's been so long since I paid attention. I could have sworn that they were family once they were married in.

Edit: I just bathed the toddler in that same family and she lost her hair in the bath. She went from having that little bowl cut with bangs to having the sparse "baby head" hair, when clothed she got her hair back.

I've had both those things happen as well, I just figured that it was another borked issue.

I have found a bork that... well, it's damn sure borken to me!

The Aspir house has a Genie. It is rather boring. However, I used it to bring the granddad's wife back from the dead.

ALL SHE HAS are Mystery Sim memories! FT Director's Cut was in, so I don't even know if they're still married or whatever normally. I'll have to check later, as I'm just on my lunch break.

Damn. The stupid story even pointed you to the lamp and appeared to suggest resurrection for her, but noooo. Broken ahoy.

Heh, that was the first house I played. When I resurrected her, she still showed her family relations (kid, grandkid) but she acted like she didn't even know her husband (not married or anything). So I had to start from scratch with their relationship.

I have no CC or hacks in my game since they're not updated yet. I just wanted to make sure my game didn't explode or anything.

Instead, the Elder male in the Aspir house (Luis?) was going around burning raked leaves, as my sims like to play with fire. Later he was in the bathroom fixing the sink, cleaning the shower and he started burning. Everybody else was asleep. Then he died and the adult female didn't make it in time to plead to the grim reaper. Later when I was watching where the kids put their homework (I let them have another one) I found the genie lamp. Then he was resurrected.

So I don't know if them both being resurrected affected their relationship or if it was supposed to happen. But I'm pretty sure him catching on fire wasn't supposed to happen. His temperature was in the green, so it's not like he over heated. *shrugs* As I play, I keep wishing I had a hack for this and a hack for that, I forgot how much I needed them.

47  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bigfoot memento seems borked on: 2007 November 02, 11:53:39
I had to move Bigfoot in and all three of my sims (dad, mom and daughter) got the Bigfoot momento (they all went together to visit him at his burrow). The daughter became friends with him first, then best friends and nothing happened. So I had dad and mom get to being best friends with him too. Still nothing. Once he moved in all three of them finally remembered befriending him.

He hasn't done anything insteresting...but I forget how long I actually played that lot afterwards...I think my laptop was being pissy so I stopped playing it (for some reason it doesn't like me playing the sims for 8 hours straight).

I haven't sent anyone else to meet Bigfoot yet, so I don't know if all my sims will have to move him in. I'd really rather not have to have a neighborhood with Bigfoot running around. Though I do think of him as a pet and I want him to become best friends with the family dog. But he acts too simlike...more like he's just a really hairy looking guy, who slouches, scratches his butt and walks funny. He hasn't even brought me random junk...moved with one simoleon and all those freakin badges and skills filled. Found him to be boring. Maybe if people start making Bigfoot fixes I'll play with that lot again.

I was woundering if anyone knew if the LTW hack by Squinge that lets you have EcologyGuru, Paranormal, ShowBiz,Visionary in your LTW. I tried the one for EP 5 but when I had it in it worked at first but then the wants started to show up blank. Anyone know if it is being updated for BV or not. Thank you

Get JM's mod here: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,8793.0.html Does the same thing but so much better.

I didn't know who had done those files (they have just been staring at me in my "Other" file folder because I couldn't find who I got it from)...I was just bummed that they weren't updated for BV (even though they were working fine with it) but thanks for that link! I'll check it out and hopefully it'll help. (I really don't want to deal with 20 kids...sending them all to college...making them all have kids...bah! They're lucky I even bother to send them to college. xD)

Just wanted to thank you for this post. I hadn't even heard about this until I was looking at something else here and saw a link to this post mention. Then my 10 page reading day began...and then my "...I miss everything, don't I?" and then finally said goodbye to SecuRom (it was sad to see me go).

Then I go to sleep, and the next thing I know, I'm waking up to a nightmare about SecuRom taking over my computer. Go figure.  Cheesy

But yay and thanks for giving me an...interesting read...and for telling me how to get rid of it (really not that hard, at least it was easy for me). Because without this helpful post, I'd have probably not even heard anything about it and my Sims would've kept acting wonky. They were fine, I install BV and then they were mean. I figured it was because...I had too much sims crap or something. Or I just spent too many hours simming. But then after I read all this and got rid of SecuRom...suddenly my Sims went to how they used to be (since nothing else I have on my laptop is SecuRom, I made sure to check on that).

Thanks, thanks again and you are definitely more awesome than me (since I only did all this stuff yesterday and thought I'd share today).
