You mentioned you were testing with the instant meal meshes, which made me think of this tutorial. I haven't ever made a food (or any mesh) myself, but the tutorial says that all replacement bits of food must have the same number of polys & verts as whatever it replaces. I can't remember if instant meals have multiple morphs, but the same principle may apply to them anyway. You might want to try replacing something else, to see if you can get your mesh to show up.

Also, when I extracted some objects from Castaway Stories, I had problems with invisible objects. I (much) later found that a SimPE reinstall fixed the issue.

Please donīt beat me, if this was answered before.

In my options menu it is not possible to use the life span slider.
Is this a bug or am I just clueless?

The option is greyed out if you click the "..." on the neighborhood chooser. Enter the neighborhood, then go to options.

Has anyone found a way to make roof sections of differing angles? Seems to be all or nothing, but maybe I missed something there. Also, I read that constrainfloorelevation wouldn't be available; it is, although with an unfortunate side effect. The ceiling texture isn't lowered with the wall height, and continues to float above. It's only viewable from below (see mid-construction pic). Stupid EAxis.

Thank you, guys. I'm pleased the ballroom is a hit, as it's my favorite room as well. In my testing I was able to use the wedding arch, as you mentioned, parrot. My problem was getting my outing-mates to behave (no luck). I just winged it though, so I'll do a search and see what I can find to make it a better experience next time. And, witch, that castle is beautiful, and the landscape view on the front page of its website really sells it. I'm getting an itch to visit NZ now.

Nothing on topic to offer, but I found something I haven't seen mentioned (nothing in search either). Is this an EAxis nod to sport of More Awful Than You? Maybe they like it because they're stuff isn't eligible to "win."
11  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: EAxis house of Phail: March 09 on: 2009 March 09, 21:10:43
Some really pretty lots have come out of this boring, unwieldy house.

mistyk - I like the nature-y look of your lot. The house exterior, the landscaping, the outdoor living areas, the greenhouse, it all flows very nicely. The interior is nice as well, but the exterior as a whole is my favorite thing.

Anebrd - I hope you are feeling better, but I like the "snot green." I agree with Witch, your pictures are a bit small/dark, but I can see that any sim living there will never want for things to do.

Faizah - A very bright, attractive lot. For me, though, the darkish, monochromatic apartments don't reconcile with the light, traditional exterior. I want my cupcakes to have a gooey sugary filling; this one looks filled with rock candy. Tongue Yummy, but not what I was expecting.

omgdani - I like the blue stucco and the green dining room. And lots of wood everywhere; I love wood. The only thing that seems really weird to me is that the living room has a double wall. The windows on the outer wall are looking looking into a nothing-space beside the chimney. Why?

Jim - Another fun lot from you. Something about veranda bowling seems hilarious to me, in a good way. Especially after a turn off the bubble blower, I can see some serious damage occurring. Also, the statue staring in through the bathroom window? Awesome.

eaglezero - Yours is the only lot so far (mine included) that my computer could run without Sir Lagsalot annoying the hell out of me. *Makes note to upgrade her ramz.* The style is very simple and clean looking, pretty colors, and nice use of the 2-story windows.

I understand the "too big!" sentiments; this is a huge lot for me as well. For some reason, though, I've felt oddly uninspired by the smaller lots chosen the last couple months, but this large one interested me. I decided to make it into a community lot for throwing elegant parties/weddings. Since that's not really an option for sims (is it?), it's kind of a waste, but I had fun anyway. I borrowed some inspiration from Dundurn Castle for the exterior, because it's so lovely. I didn't keep the pool in the basement, but I did use the pool tool in that room to make up for it. Also, sorry the bar is so plain. Some cc on the shelves should dress it up. None of the EAxis content looked right to me.  The spot by the upstairs elevator is supposed to be a coat check, although it's mostly just an excuse for woohooing. If anyone wants a residential version, let me know. It would need some remodeling to be suitable for living (no kitchen, bedrooms, etc.). The community lot version was playtested, and everything works.

12  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: White Lattice Deck on: 2009 March 09, 17:18:25
After much futzing with this, I'm at a loss, as described near the end of this post. Nevertheless, here's the promised breakdown of the pieces and how they interact. Not really a tutorial, more of a guided tour. Tongue

Parts needed for a custom deck:

  • A custom deck script - dur
  • A wall script - Probably to be hidden from catalog view.
  • A wallpattern script - This part is not supported by the Scriptorium, so must be added to the basegame wallpatterns.txt.
  • A floorpattern script - Same issues as the wallpattern. I didn't use one for the white lattice deck.
  • A package containing the texture for the wallpattern
  • A package containing the catalog entry info for the custom deck - I put this in the Scriptorium Decks etc. folder, but it may work other places. Combining it into the texture package in downloads did not work for me.

Interaction, shown using the white lattice deck pieces:

The first piece to the puzzle, the custom deck script

  • catalogTextResource 50_WhiteDeck 138 - Name of the deck (what I named the file) followed by 138. This number comes from the build.package file, where 138 is the instance that lists the game's decks/foundations/pools.
  • buildTipIndices 5 5 - The build tips to be displayed. These also come from the build.package. No need to change this.
  • deck 50 - The number I chose to call my deck (just like you would do with modular stairs).
  • wallStyle 200 - The wall my deck displays, in this case, my custom wall. More on this below.
  • floorPattern "deckDarkRedwood" - I didn't use a custom floorpattern, so this is the default deck floor.
  • supportObject 0xAA75A097 - Stuff I left alone from the script I copied (the original lattice deck).
  • supportObjectUpperLevel 0x9EDE28AE - More stuff I left alone.
  • catalogTextIndices 0 1 - Which lines of the catalog entry package to display for price/name/description.

Second, the custom wall

  • wall 200 - The number I chose for my wall.
  • defaultPattern "deckwhite" - The wallpattern my wall will display.
  • wallThickness none - I left this alone.
  • mayChangeSurface false - I left this alone.
  • mayAttachObjects false - I left this alone.
  • mayCutAway false - I left this alone.
  • requiresFlatBottom false - I left this alone.
  • requiresFlatTop true - I left this alone.
  • submersible true - I left this alone.
  • verticalSpan floorToFloorBasedCeiling - I left this alone.
  • blocksLight false - I left this alone.
  • deleteTool levelRoom - I left this alone.
  • notInCatalog - I left this alone as I don't want this wall to show in the catalog.

Third, my wallpattern script:

  • wallPattern "deckwhite" - The name I chose for my wallpattern.
  • material "wall_deckRedwoodB_base" - The texture my wallpattern displays.
  • notInCatalog - I left this alone.

Fourth, the texture I used was recycled from the base game. I took an (as far as I know) unused, duplicate pattern of the regular, brown lattice, and recolored it. My texture package is simply a default replacement. You could go this route as well, as I think there are plenty of unused and duplicate textures in there. I have tried every which way I can think of to get a completely custom texture to display, and I can't seem to get it to work. I ditched all the stuff I was working on in case I've just been staring too long and am missing something obvious (it's not hard to reproduce these little scripts after all). I may or may not revisit them in the future. Please let me know (here, or you can PM me at PMBD) what you find, if you do try these. I probably did something silly, or maybe the game needs to think (by trickery?) that the texture is native. But yeah, I got sick of testing. Sorry to leave that part so flimsy. Hopefully it wasn't just a typo I kept missing, or I'll feel really dumb.

Last, the catalog info package just holds the info listed above (name/price/description). It's simply the instance 138 of the build.package extracted and edited.

As an aside, I checked in-game to see how your lattice looks beside the texture I did. I think, if you make these, you should make your set complete. Mine looks a little too white to be a great match to your columns. Mine's more like vinyl, while yours retains the wood look better.

Hopefully that will get you started. Piecing through the bits should be pretty easy if I adequately described their relationships. Let me know if you have questions.

Soggy Fox, you posted this just as I was about to hit the hay last night. I've been messing with this a bit more, and I'll get a mini-tutorial up for you in the next couple days. Hopefully one that even makes sense. Smiley

My ceilings disappear all the freaking time, even with them toggled on. When it happens, I hit pagedown until I'm at ground level, then hit pageup (however many times needed) and they reappear.
15  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: White Lattice Deck on: 2009 February 06, 00:38:48
Ah, nice. I was in a hurry earlier and hadn't had a chance to read your comment at MTS2.

As far as I know, this is the first attempt at sharing a custom deck. I haven't searched extensively for others, though. I mostly posted this to find out how the scripts in various games would have to be handled. I suppose I could use the AnyGameStarter to test it. I'm not crazy about installing that, but I guess I could. *waffles*
16  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: White Lattice Deck on: 2009 February 05, 22:06:24
I know, there are a lot of steps. It's even worse than modular stairs pre-Scriptorium. I think once Numenor has a chance to update the Scriptorium with a curved pool fix, I will be able to pare down the install.

1. You're right, I did include it as a foundation, so thanks for pointing that out. I'm my excitement, I accidentally copied one of my test files. I'll update link with the correct file as soon as I post this. ETA - now updated.

2. That probably is a more efficient way, although it's one more thing to remember to update when adding a new EP (or probably M&G). I prefer it all to be in one folder, otherwise my scatterbrain will lose it. Numenor would probably be happy to hear you solution, though, if you feel like posting it in the Scriptorium comments.

*runs off to dental appointment* Sad
17  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / White Lattice Deck on: 2009 February 05, 09:02:46
Would anyone be interested in testing this out?

Click twice for full size.

After SBNao asked about a deck like this, I figured that I'd give it a go. The installation isn't the simplest, but it's not difficult either. Just back up the files before editing them if you're worried.

I use Numenor's Scriptorium in my game, so I have everything installed through that where possible. I think the deck should work without it, though.

I have all EPs and SPs installed in my game. The curved pool (introduced with Seasons, I think) conflicted with the custom deck originally, but ClicknPsycho at MTS2 found a workaround that allows both to work. If you don't have Seasons, I'd be especially interested in hearing your feedback. I didn't find any problems with stages (OFB? Nightlife? I can't recall when they were introduced), but please let me know if you see any strange behavior.

Installation:
downloads_whitedeck.package - This goes in your downloads folder

200_WhiteDeckWall.txt - This goes in C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Catalog\Scripts\Scriptorium_Walls-Fences-Arches. If you aren't using the Scriptorium, you can try adding it to the Scripts folder. This worked for me when I tested it.

50_WhiteDeck.txt
and
50_WhiteDeck.package - These go in C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Catalog\Scripts\Scriptorium_Decks-Foundations-Pools. They should also be fine in the Scripts folder.

wallPatterns.txt - This is found in C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Catalog\Scripts. Make a backup (elsewhere) then overwrite with this one. I have added just three lines to the document (at the very bottom).

deckfoundations.txt - This is where is gets a bit tricky, and I'm unsure of what installation each game config needs. So this is my best guess, but possibly everyone with a later EP (not Uni) will need to edit this file:

If your game contains both curved pools and stages, the directions are the same as for wallPatterns.txt - back up and replace. If you have neither stages nor curved pools, the script doesn't need editing and you can ignore this document (please let me know if this is not the case). If you don't have stages, open the document and delete the following lines:

# Stages
buildTipIndices 29 29

stage 4
wallStyle 301
floorPattern "loftSmallBirchPlanks"
catalogTextIndices 7 8

If you don't have curved pools, delete these lines:

buildTipIndices 35
pool 5
wallStyle 29
floorPattern "floor_poolRoundedLipBlue"
thumbnailResource 0x499db772 0xe926159b
catalogTextIndex 9

Save the document and place it in the Scripts folder (make a backup first).

After installing, you will likely need to refresh one or more thumbnails (hold down Ctrl and right-click the thumbnail). My deck looked like a pool before I refreshed.

If you see any weirdness, please report it here. Please feel free to improve the recolor, as I have no talents in that area. I simply moved some sliders around in GIMP until it looked white-like to me.

ETA: Yeah, you probably need this as well. Heh. Now updated with moar deckiness.

Thank you, witch and SalixTree. A question, for either of you, or anyone else: I was wondering how you feel about my decorating style? I tend to leave things fairly plain, especially compared to many of the lots I see others create (here and elsewhere). It is too plain, and if so, is that an issue, or do you like to personalize a lot anyway? I know I tend to just buy things for my sims as needed, instead of having a ton of stuff for them. I also like to force my sims off their lot for entertainment, for example, make them go to a gym rather than give them a treadmill at home (well, ok, not the best example of entertainment, but you get the idea). I appreciate any feedback.
19  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: EAxis house of FAIL: December on: 2008 December 23, 08:38:31
There are a lot beautiful buildings this month. I think I love Goggalor's the most, though, even if it would eat my neighborhood alive.

This is my first time submitting to the House of Fail challenge. I hope I have followed the instructions reasonably well - some outer walls were squished, but they're all there. I'm not sure if this is 'legal,' but I shrank the lot, because EAxis lots are far too big for my liking. It's now 3x3 (still too big), flattened, and the entire structure was moved (carefully rebuilt) closer to the road. The footprint should be correct; please let me know if it isn't. I'm not much good at landscaping, but I did try. Heh.

When I first saw this lot, I immediately thought of the structures built throughout what is now California, by missionaries from Mexico and Spain. I used that idea as an outline, and tried to maintain several key aspects of a typical Spanish Colonial (USian term, probably?) casa de pueblo, while following the challenge rules. I chose, however, not to include any fireplaces, since they take up a lot of space. The house is neither Awesomespec, since I'm not much of a control freak about my sims, nor playtested (I'm also lazy). I took pictures of the common areas. The house also has 4 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. In case anyone wants to download - I have all EPs and SPs installed, and the pack is clean of CC. Total cost, unwanded, is §89,611.

The packages are spywarez-free, according to Pescado. And yeah, securom isn't in them. The machine I used never became infected either, since I only installed the minimum needed to download (BG) and its patch, which the dl manager did auto-install, doesn't include securom (yet). My guess anyway.

Voila.

So, 11 of 13 outfits I got are showing up. I think for some reason the other two were lost in translation. I don't see the LIFOs or anything in the skins package it created when I loaded the game. However, on the good side, I dl's these on a clean machine with only base game installed, and when I transferred the file to my main machine (all EP/SP -Freetime), everything less the 2 AWOL recols is showing up without messing in SimPE. The package is not compressorized. I guess I'll have to deal with customer support to get the other 2. They are the other recols of the men's hipster jacket outfit, so no one give EA monies for those.

Included:
1 color of the men's hipster jacket
men's yellow dashiki
men's black vest outfit (these to round out the sets)
3 teen female denim skirt with puff sleeve shirt
2 teen female pottery dress
2 teen female celtic cutie
Edit: forgot this one's there too - the French Foreign Legion adult female outfit
