I don't have NL or the Holiday Pack, nope. I checked my objects.package against the one on the install disk, and they are both 29.6MB. Darn. Thanks, though.
152  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Those old blank want slots... on: 2006 January 29, 16:17:37
I know I've seen this problem addressed any number of places, but I never had it until now, and now I can't find an answer. I hope I'm not nominating myself for a good slapping, but if so... I can take it!

A recent Uni graduate has developed blank want slots. They appeared suddenly the last time I loaded her lot. Out of six slots, all but the one locked one are blank. I read a few places that fulfilling the remaining wants may restore the blanks, but this has not happened. This slot is the only slot that rolls... and it KEEPS ROLLING THE SAME THING. WooHoo in bed. Over and over. Her boyfriend is about to drop dead from exhaustion.

I also read that this could be caused by a corrupt .package, but I set all mine to read only some time ago. I tried removing any recent downloads just in case, but no luck. I haven't downloaded any new hacks either, and I double-checked for conflicts anyway... nothing. Agh!

My primary fear (in no danger of turning up blank) is that this spells an impending neighborhood apocalypse. It's been a while since the last unexplained BFBVFS, and everything was going so well... figures. Maybe if I kill her off I can halt the spread of contagion?  Tongue

Did you look at his genetics in SimPe bc as long as he has the brown eye code the maxis eyecolor should have changed to the replacement.

I'm on a Mac and can't use SimPE, but I checked his DNA in-game, and it reads:
EyeColor:
12d4f3e1-fdbe-4fe7ace3-46dd9ff52b51 (uuface_eye_alien)
0758508c-7111-40f9-b33b-706464626ac9 (uuface_eye_gray)

If that's to be trusted, he has no genes for brown eyes at all. I also checked the DNA of his two sisters, and the eye part is identical. The sister who shows medium-dark skin like Walther has the same Maxis-default-brown looking eyes. The other sister shows the alien skintone and her eyes show as black alien eyes. Hmm.

Because the child has a human skintone, it theoretically cannot have alien eyes. We know this doesn't always work because there have been some scary-looking sims born who had alien eyes in human skintones, or had alien-sized eyes with human-coloured pupils. But in theory, it shouldn't happen.

Hmm -- I had something interesting happen that seemed related:

Sim Walther is 1/4 alien. He expressed a human skintone and (I thought) ordinary brown eyes. None of his anscestors had any custom genetics. When I downloaded replacements for the default Maxis eyes, every other Sim's eyes changed to the new defaults, except Walther's. His remained the regular Maxis brown instead of the new replacement brown.

Does the game have some kind of "replacement" alien eyecolor for Sims with some alien genes but an expressed human skintone?
155  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Feed the baby somewhere else! on: 2006 January 21, 01:33:15
This has been bugging me forever: when Sims "feed bottle to" a baby, they take the bottle out of the fridge, then stand directly in front of the fridge feeding it to baby, blissfully thwarting everyone else's attempts to eat. If they'd just take half a step in any direction....

Is there such a thing as a "shoving the baby-feeding moron out of the way" hack?

I think the TV-volume cheat requires University. I tried and tried and couldn't get it to work for me with just the original game, and no luck, but it worked at once with Uni installed. I wish I had better news, the full-volume TVs are annoying as heck.  Sad

Ouch. And without walls, it must be tough to keep a horde of starving dormies away from the keg.

Every time Timmy has a guest over they go right for his fruit punch. The worst is the stupid mascots. I have to put a trash can in front of it now. Spoiled fridge-owning elitist jerks.

Edited to add also, I figured out how to put the dorm doors into the Ethiopian Email lot, so now my guy is living in a dorm.

Does this mean...... you have dormies?? The idea of dormies at Ethiopian Email college makes me happy.

... Of course, Dormies stink, starve, and pee themselves even when they HAVE food and toilets, so....

I do not have NL. But my dorms do receive bills. And I've had this error. So I'm guessing I should give this a try anyway. Assuming nothing explodes, thank you!

I didn't have a problem with 10.4.3... I think. Was that just the upgrade that required the new patch for S2 to run?
161  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Ethiopian Challenge! Because E-Mail Was Too Easy! on: 2006 January 14, 07:20:37
Oh, I am so doing that to a Pescado clone. RIGHT NOW!

edited to add: can I make a dorm that is Ethiopian and Email legal? Or is a dorm non-functional without dorm doors and a cafeteria stove?
Ethiopians technically don't go to Uni at all, but you can construct a dorm that is otherwise Ethiopian-style.

Yes, I decided little Timmy Misfortune is an unorthodox Ethiopian who received a college scholarship. A special one that specified he wasn't allowed to so much as set eye on any walls or toilets. Or do any homework. And that didn't cover the cost of any plumbing or electrics. Or food. He just finished his freshman year! He's so proud! His friends in Ethiopia will never believe his extra want slots!

I have had the problem of bill errors because of trying to divide by zero dormmates, but well, life in Ethiopia is tough.
162  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Ethiopian Challenge! Because E-Mail Was Too Easy! on: 2006 January 14, 00:04:48
I have a possibly stupid question. Ethiopian Sims can have cell phones but not regular phones, however, without NL there is no way to go to a community lot and purchase a cell phone without using a regular phone to call a taxi. Correct? Can non-NL users be allowed one (non-cell) phone call? (Just pretend we're in jail.)

"No food and a baby" made me laugh until I cried. I'm going to have to try this. Although I have this feeling like I'll go totally berserk and send some poor soul to Sleep Through Email College in Ethiopia.
