1  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Random rolled Genius/Stupid trait on: 2009 September 28, 12:21:54
In my legacies I always have the spawn use the random dice for traits when they age.  In my latest house 3 of the children rolled "genius" but when I would click on a logic object (chess table, peg toy) I would get the mark through the genius symbol like that is not something they would want to do.  Removing the genius and adding stupid got the stupid symbol with the mark out.  Switching it back to genius seemed to make it fix itself - no mark through the symbol.

I am not sure if the kids were supposed to have gotten the "stupid" trait and the random roll messed it up or what but I just thought I would mention it.  I have never random rolled the stupid trait so maybe genius just always gets put in for it using EAs random dice?
2  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Computer shuts down without awesome mod, with awesome mod it crashes on: 2009 September 25, 12:07:09
I had that same problem after updating my Nvidia drivers.  I reverted back and loaded the FPS limiter and one or the other fixed it.  I thought it was a hardware problem even though only the Sims 3 seemed capable of actually shutting the computer down with the new driver.  It had never happened before.  I am not sure about ATI cards though ...
3  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patched to 1.4, sudden crashing on: 2009 August 08, 05:04:59
I haven't patched but I had the same problem and did extensive searching on the game booting the computer all of a sudden (I had played for several weeks with no problems and could play any other game without the computer booting).  I discovered that I had Windows update loading optional updates and one of them happened to be for my video card.  When I checked the Nvidia control panel Sims 3 was one of the few games listed to run only "fair" because of 2D directional movement or some such and to turn down visual effects.  I tried that but no go.  I also tried to turn off the advanced rendering and switching screen resolutions.

I finally read the post here about the fpslimiter so decided to check to see what my game was running by turning FPS on and found that it was hitting in the 80s and 90s consistently.  I downloaded the 3booter and the fpslimiiter and rolled back my driver and my system hasn't crashed since.  I have no idea what actually fixed it - it could have just been me smacking it a few times or maybe the moon was full - but maybe those are some things you can look at.

I feel your pain though.  I have never had so much trouble playing a game as I have this one.

4  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Think of the children! (Bad Parenting in the Sims 3) on: 2009 June 28, 19:44:55
While playing the Bunches, I sent the Dad and one of his sons fishing and didn't realize the Dad was holding the new baby until I got a message that I couldn't leave the baby on the ground and asked if I wanted a babysitter to take it home.  I think that is the auto-magical way that the kids eventually get where they are supposed to be because sure enough the baby showed up on the floor in the entryway at home.

I've also noticed when sending my sims visiting their friends that frequently the toddlers are the only ones that show up as "home".  I guess neglect is not really an issue Smiley
5  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: They can autonomously cheat. on: 2009 June 28, 19:37:47
I was surprised by this as well.  It is quite annoying when it makes no sense.  For example, Judy Bunch - happily married with 4 kids and one on the way - was found asking Gunther Goth to cuddle on a park bench.  I don't believe he was even an aquaintance.  I can't remember exactly but I think she has the "family" trait too.

Worse yet, my doctor sim was trying to pick up on Hank Goddard when she is happily married with kids and a genius, bookwormy type.  To top it off he was having none of it and he DOES have the personality to cheat.  As a matter of fact I think that is his wish is to have 10 girlfriends or some such.

Something definitely needs some tweaking.

7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Environment preference of the sims on: 2007 April 03, 16:01:28
I'm not sure about color but I know that sims prefer some floors and walls over others - I am guessing based on cost(?)  I have also noticed that if you rebuild many times an "upgraded" room's score will go way down until you randomly tear down a few squares of wall and rebuild it back exactly the same.  I read that here somewhere awhile back and sure enough it works everytime although I have had to figure out which part of the wall.

For example, if I remember correctly Malcolm in BW has 2 bathrooms on the bottom floor, one decorated to the extreme and it's score is lousy until you do this and then it jumps right up there without changing anything.  Although in that case I think if you sell his decorations they cost an insane amount (the towel holder thingys) like 999 or something and I am not sure what is up with that.

8  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Twins 3 times in a row? on: 2007 April 03, 00:12:52
Well, nothing wrong with my game I guess.  Bianca is still pg but the pregnancy scanner from ACR says one baby expected.

Now watch, I'll start a new hood and not see another set of twins until Sims 3 comes out  Tongue
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Twins 3 times in a row? on: 2007 March 31, 20:03:14
I agree with witch.  I have had maybe 3 sets of twins total from all the hoods I have played up to this one since I have played Sims2.  Well, except when I cheesecaked that stupid lazy Tinker woman over and over to make sure she was miserable thinking she wanted to be a baby factory.

That is what had me wondering what was up.  I am just gonna leave it alone and hope for the best I guess.  I haven't looked to see how many character files I have yet but I am gonna have to have some population control pretty soon if this keeps up.
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Twins 3 times in a row? on: 2007 March 31, 18:24:03
I just merged PV, RB, VV and ST (actually I used Sara(?)'s instructions in Peasantry to merge RB into her downloadable already merged PV, ST, VV) and everything is running wonderfully except for the fact that I have had 3 sets of twins in a row.  The first 2 I thought must be just chance but now I am beginning to wonder if I haven't borked something somewhere.

So far there have been only 5 births - Brandy's pre-planned (only it was a girl this time??), the Ottomas pre-planned twins (they belonged to Brandy supposedly), Cass and Don had twins, John and Jennifer had twins and now Regan and Cornwall just had twins.  I want to just hold out and see if the next couple has twins too but I don't think I can take another set of the buggers and it really seems like it must be more than dumb luck.

I haven't went to any community lots to buy cheesecake nor have I had my sims make it and I have very few mods that are not from here -

Carrigon's forever burn fireplace, Christianluv's pet teleporter and home pet collar buyer, Inge's teleporter painting and Monique's computer.

None that I think would have to do with twins so I am at a loss.  Baby-wise from here I use the babycontroller and nobabyharassment.  They were all conceived via ACR's autonomous try for baby.  I have used almost all these mods for awhile with no problems whatsoever before though so I have no idea what to guess I have done.

So, my question is - Is there something that gets set somewhere that I can check to see if there is something always making twins?  I am wondering if something snuck in somewhere but I don't download houses or premade sims, only hair and clothes

I guess in the meantime I will just wait and see if the next couple has twins too, Bianca and the bald Capp are about to be married so "try for baby" will kick in fairly soon on ACR but so help me if it is twins again there will be an unfortunate accident.

11  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Warmth Fix Mod on: 2007 March 15, 12:45:46
Just yesterday I put back in all my mods after loading Seasons and added this one and a few others so I am not sure if this one caused this or not but....

Cyd was cooking grilled cheese, caught on fire, seemed to jump and then stove was on fire instead of him.  The fire dept came and afterwards the grilled cheese was just completely gone.

I only wonder if it was this mod because I "think" he was supposed to combust or some such because prior to reloading my mods I had a sim cooking and catch on fire without the food/stove catching on fire.  In that case, the food still looked like it was on the stove (after the fire was out) and I could see it in the menus but if I tried to have the Sim get it off the stove it would drop from the queue.  Finally, I had to moveobjects it off the stove (although the stove still had the options to cook with the food on it).

Seems like there is something buggy about burning food since Seasons even before I put all my mods back but I was hoping someone more awesome than me could tell me what it was.

12  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: No college want on: 2007 March 14, 04:22:23
Most of my families don't have pets just for that reason.  I require a 10 interest in animals for them to get one and then they turn into cat ladies/dog breeders.  I hate the whole want system though so usually I just get everyone permaplat quick and then do whatever I want  Tongue
13  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: No college want on: 2007 March 14, 04:38:48
It seems like after I loaded seasons my teens 'go to college' want goes away after awhile (I don't send mine till 3 days before).  I actually am having to click-save the want now if I am gonna send them and want them platinum when they get there.

Of course it seems like seasons really changed all my sims wants - in the spring I can't get any sim to stop getting wants to kiss, flirt and go on a date.  Kinda annoying and time wasting unless you make use of each season's bonus.  Summer for friends, spring for romance, fall for skilling and winter for family.  Getting a want outside of that is hard  Undecided
14  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Seasons: What mods are you already begging for? on: 2007 March 14, 04:27:05
I don't mind so much my sims putting coats on and off evertime they open the door but it is really driving me crazy that the ghosts on my legacy lot are doing it.  I guess they are afraid they can freeze to death and die twice??
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Overheating has gone too far!! on: 2007 March 11, 01:49:35
The treadmill is annoying but I have lost 2 playable sims that burst into flames in a hot tub while visiting another lot.  There has to be something that can be done about Sims being too stupid to get out of a hot tub or stop playing instruments when visiting.  I have had visitors stay for days doing those 2 things while the family went about their business ignoring them.

Funny thing is, when I got my new computer I loaded only the original Sims 2 at first and visitors jumped right out of the hot tub when they were hungry, etc. so it must have worked before  Undecided.  Now it's just more important than the minor annoyance it used to be.

Thanks!  I did a search but must have spelled it wrong   Smiley
17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Riverblossom twins on: 2007 March 08, 13:51:10
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but after playing about 4 seasons in Riverblossom I found that the Ottoman (?, not sure on spelling but the premades with granny, pregnant mom, dad, teen, child, toddler) twins that are born are NOT related to the dad.  Instead, they think they came from Patricia Wan (popularity premade with the female roommate) and their mother.  Patricia also thinks they are hers and even though they have never met will not stop rolling wants for them to get scholarships  Undecided

When I was trying to fix it I used the Tombstone of L&D - make me family child on them and now they think they are related to the dead Tricous from NL and not related to their parfents at all  Tongue.  I also notice that boolprop has a new simulate DNA option (at least I never noticed it before) but I haven't played with it yet.

Just a warning.  I had switched romance dad to marry off 6 kids for LTW not realizing that those are not his kids  Embarrassed.

The relationships also seem messed up with elderly females that live with the gamer guys.  I don't remember which since I didn't pay attention not intending to keep the old ladies around long but I remember Morty Roth (maybe?) thinking he was related to one of them but she didn't have it in hers.
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: IP addys on: 2007 February 21, 14:45:49
Well, I got it straightened out and they e-mailed my reset password with this -

Please note: If you have recently moved, changed ISPs, started using different computers, or have a dynamic IP, posting to the forum will update your IP address or log any additional IP addresses from other computers or other locations you use to access MTS2.  Simply saying thanks, browsing, or downloading will not update your IP information.

Which likely explains it.  I am not sure I have ever had my password reset and I also am not sure that I have ever made a post there (can't really remember but I am usually just a lurker/downloader).

Problem solved.  Now I can go look for my recolor of that Maxis cheap shower.  It still befuddles me why EA thinks everything should be green.
19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: IP addys on: 2007 February 20, 22:40:46
I have never had trouble before either but when I tried to do a password reset it took me to an automated thing that asked for my userID, e-mail, birthday and created an e-mail for me to send to them - cut and pasted minus my info (don't know why since it's here anyways Tongue).  Maybe I am just not getting what the error really is and when I get a response it will be something I just didn't know about (i.e. user error  Tongue) -

It's not really a big deal, I was just confused having never had this problem before with any site.  It kinda worries me that my account is messed up or something.

Thanks Kat, I just couldn't understand why this was happening all of a sudden on MTS2 when I have used the same ISP 3+yrs and been a member there since whenever Sims2 came out.  I have never had this problem before and quite frankly didn't even know that a site would keep track of my IP address or care where I logged in from.  It must have just checked because I was trying to have the password reset and wanted to verify I was me.

I'm sure they'll get it straightened out for me I just couldn't figure out if I had changed something I shouldn't have somewhere.
21  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / IP addys on: 2007 February 20, 18:54:33
This may belong in Retardoland so feel free to move it cause I am feeling like a complete idiot right now but I know someone here can explain this to the computer illiterate that I am.

I recently purchased a new computer and so far the worst thing has been trying to remember all the user-IDs and passwords to sites that I had Windows remembering on my old one since I don't do restores.  I use new computers as a clean-up time so I have to reinstall things I really want.  Anyhow, I think I got most of them sorted out except MTS2 and I think I actually got the info right but was told I "automatically failed an IP check" or something along those lines.  I know that I need to get with them on it (not here) and I have already sent an e-mail but....

Does just getting a new computer change my IP address?  I kinda thought that my ISP issued those or something.  I know we have 4 computers on a wireless network and they stagger the last number, or at least used to but the msg from MTS did indeed recite back to me an unfamiliar one.  However, when I bought the last new computer I didn't get any IP checks failing after hooking it up to the same network.

Or is it Vista that is doing something different, or even my ISP changing something and not telling me.  I don't even know how to check this stuff  Embarrassed  It just all used to magically work together.

Ok, point and laugh now....
22  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Okay, Anyone Doing the Sims/Vista Rhumba? on: 2007 February 08, 22:54:20
I just got my new PC with Vista today and I have not had a problem with any of the games I play yet (knock on wood).  The only problem I ran into was with my ASUS motherboard's Realtek sound.  The ASUS site already has a fix ready to download for Realtek/Vista and viola my speakers worked just fine after that.

My husband also got a new PC with Vista and he had some problem with his LCD monitor (I refuse to leave my CRT yet) as well as the same sound problem.

So far so good but keeping my fingers crossed on my new Nvidia card.
23  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Life Stories Welcome Package? on: 2007 February 08, 22:45:17
I wasn't going to buy it - sounded like the consoles too much for me and they usually disappoint but....  I was bored waiting for seasons and so I dl'ed it from EALink.  I have to admit I am impressed with some of the features even though the "stories" are a bit tedious to get through.

That I have noticed so far -
On the good side -

-It has a built-in Macrotastics that makes it soooo much easier to play - "G" greets guests, "H" makes them go find food, "K" makes them clean, etc.  Not nearly so much pointing and clicking.

-The shrubs and flowers are "always perfect" (no more daily gardener and having to place them just right so they can be trimmed).

-There seems to be a few new careers and items to check out.

-Whoever built the premade houses seems to have actually played the game before and they are set up reasonably well.

-They never did "What's this?"

On the bad side -

- The stories are obviously to teach newcomers the game and can't really be sped through just to unlock stuff and go to freeplay.  For example - relationships will get "froze" until a certain time that the next event happens regardless of what you do.

- Lots of stuff is missing (people who really get into decorating will be disappointed unless/until some cc comes out).

I finished Riley's story and started Vincents but haven't really done freeplay to raise kids etc although I did have to go through one pregnancy (which took a lot of sim maintenance just like in Sims 2).  Overall, it looks like alot of the micromanagement/annoyances to keep the stupid sims alive is gone so you can focus more on making a story for them.  I am enjoying it but I really think I will tire of it fairly quickly.

24  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Maxis/EA update re nVidia & Pets incompatibility on: 2007 February 03, 00:48:48
I am getting ready to spend my tax refund on a new machine too so I was glad to see this thread although not happy to read the news about Nvidia.  I have a 6600 right now and it ran Sims 2 perfect.  That is - until I bought Burning Crusade for WoW and started crashing (not in Sims, only in WoW).

The error report (sent to Microsoft) indicated I needed a new driver so I went to the Nvidia site and downloaded the latest (I bought this PC about 18 mos ago and it was running whatever it came with).  Sure enough, it fixed my WoW problem right up but started crashing my SIMS!!  Argh.  Rolling back the old driver fixed my Sims but rebroke WoW.

For the time being I am keeping the new driver - I don't get any weird graphical glitches and never have, just a blue screen after I spend a lengthy period of time in a house so I just try to remember to save frequently.  I would almost believe that I am having some kind of overheating problem but I had the computer custom built and would have thought they would have taken what kind of power supply and cooling I needed into consideration for the hardware I was buying. (Not that I know even the first thing about hardware).

At any rate I was really looking forward to upgrading my Nvidia card in my new box but I am not sure I want to have to choose between which game I want to play without crashing Sad
