1  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Technical problems with THE HORROR: downloading, installing, and running it on: 2009 June 02, 22:17:06
I still have some programs that use the internet, like the EA download manager and Bearshare, to work. They use Internet Explorer whenever they prompt me to go install the flash player. Internet Explorer would not install the flash player so these programs will not work. How do I make these programs use Mozilla Firefox instead? I already made it my default browser.
It is my understanding that these kind of applications use the Internet Explorer "engine" internally so they cannot be tricked into using another browser (engine!) like Firefox' Gecko engine. How to get Flash working in IE if not by simply following "on-screen instructions" when prompted to install the flash player I don't know.

Well, my game crashes mostly when I try to use the neighbourhood view, which is especially annoying as being a totally new feature in Sims 3, of course - only sometimes it crashes when in sim view, which again makes me presume it's due to the data corruption in my downloaded ISO. I so much hope that to be the cause.

Also, after installing the Razor + patch version, I'm still getting random crashing to desktop.  Is anyone else without overheating issues getting this error, too?  I'll wait for an answer here before I try switching drivers.

YES, my game also most annoyingly randomly crashes to the desktop BUT I had an error when unpacking the ISO and ignored it, had another error during installation (of course) and just let the installer "retry" and it "worked". Now, I have those random crashes and presumed they were related to this data corruption issue. Please tell me, these crashes are gone when I get my legitimate copy in three days.

Buy the way, I'm running the game on an 2007 Edition 24" iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo 2,8 GHz, Radeon 2600 Pro HD) and it crashes under Windows Vista and Mac OS X although there were no errors during the Mac OS X installation. Weird!
4  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Spore De-Authorization Tool on: 2008 December 21, 11:36:55
When I started the game the last time (certainly more than two months ago) it demanded to be updated. I let it. Result: now it won't even start anymore. I take it, re-installation is in order which would be my last one as I installed it on Windows, too, so I could see whether the performance of the Mac OS version was lacking - that was before I even realised there was an installation limit.

All in all, way to go EAxis! And please don't remind me I had to pay 54 bucks for a game I can't resell...

I've put it in my Apartment Life game (I have all EPs and SPs) and so far it seems to be working alright. I had one Sim whoe lives in an apartment visit a community lot while another one of the same family including a roommate stayed at home. Everything appeared to be working as intended. So far, so good. Further testing will be necessary though.
6  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Updated Monique's Cheap Computer (FreeTime) - New Fixed/Final Version Available on: 2008 September 03, 21:33:20
I love this computer and I REALLY appreciate your work. I'm so glad to have this object still available for all EPs!

I wonder: how much of an effort is it to apply all those nice options to another custom computer?
When it comes to my experiences with modding TS2, I have to admit, the farthest I've got was editing some pie menu strings with SimPE.
How much more involved must one get to add those BHAV functions (I'm on the right track here, right?) to another custom computer?

If anyone could point me in the right direction for that I'd appreciate it very much! Smiley

And - please - keep going with those updates - thanx in advance by the way - I can barely wait for the AL version...
7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Seasonal Age Project: RFC (Request For Comments) on: 2008 April 06, 08:09:49
I second both comments: I'm intrigued by the idea of syncing a Sim's lifespan to the duration of seasons.

But just imagine a toddler actually being around for 96 days: the little one would have maxed out all the three skills it can master (charisma, logic & creativity).
Even worse: children lasting 168 days would be able to max out everything including all the badges (given you have Monique's computer to have them learn those business related ones).

That's bad - I think.

So learning speed should be altered, too.

For the most part, I don't try to scale sims to RL. It's a game. Sims have very short lives.
Right! To me my Sims are like virtual pets with a virtual life span. I don't translate sim days to real world years or something like that.

Commmunity Time makes it feel less like cheating.
Absolutely! I totally agree.
Also, it's nice to have a Sim who owns a business go to work there and actually spend time working there.
Okay, fulfilling the "Have 5 top businesses" LTW is quite challenging this way, but anyways - overall gameplay's just better with the Community Time Project in place.

Is the latest version (0.6 ft) compatible to games that do not have "Free Time" installed?

I'm playing the Mac version of the game (as stated before) and have all available expansions installed. "Free Time" has not yet been released for the Mac, so I wonder whether the current version of CTP which is described as being for "Free Time" works correctly with my game, too.

I'd like to have that kind of functionality, too.

But it would be extremely nice if age transitions that "supposedly happen while on vacation" could be made optional upon return (some dialogue box maybe); what if you age your Sim yourself while he/she is on vacation (birthday party in the far east for example) - then you should have the option to turn automatic adjustments off.

Nonetheless, even without such options, real passing vacation time would be awesome by itself already.

11  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: sim tv not displaying on: 2008 March 09, 13:21:54
This "no ingame tv video on ATI HD2600 cards" issue indeed appears to be driver related.

For eight months now, I've been using an iMac and had been playing "The Sims 2" under Windows XP (installed via BootCamp) and had the very same problem: no ingame tv video. I thought it to be some Mac incompatibily problem...but...

I finally moved to the Mac version of "The Sims 2". So I'm playing the game under Mac OS X now and guess what: everything works perfectly!

Definitively, this IS a driver issue!

Hey you ATI guys: If Apple can do it for Mac OS X, so you should be able to do it for good old Windows XP, right? YOU built the hardware!

It's a shame, really.

Well, actually, I tested the hack with BV installed.

I took a Maxis sim from the bin an put him (with his dog) into an apartment in an attached downtown.
I tried visiting a local comlot and it worked like intended (I had him drive there by car as I took it for granted that walking there wouldn't work). When he left the comlot for home, the home lot appeared, time passed and after some hours he returned. It did not have any effect on vacations: he left for the island (without his dog, of course) and returned two days later but no time had passed on the home lot.

I haven't tried to have him visit a non-local comlot (didn't occur to me this could be different), but I'm going to test that and more during the next days.

I'll report back then...
13  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Quick question on lot transplants. on: 2007 September 22, 20:25:07
I'm not sure but...

Use the very same procedure you describe in (1) to get an empty lot with all her pictures.
Put this empty lot into your new neighbourhood, recreate your sim, move her into the empty lot, put all the paintings in her inventory and move her out again (if you don't want to keep the lot). Done.
14  Ye Olde Simmes 2 Archives: Dead Creators / Ye Olde Crammyboye Archives / Re: Community Time Project v0.4a/v0.5a Pets/Seasons TEST ONLY on: 2007 September 20, 21:17:20
Or maybe not.

I had this "sim stuck on walked to lot" issue myself - it had nothing to do with this cool hack for - as a precaution - I had removed all hacks before installing BV and as this one does not have the "compatible with BV" sticker I hadn't put it into the game again yet.

There might be some other hack causing this problem - I've had my sims take a taxi ever since 'cause I'm to lazy to hunt down the hack that's actually responsible for the broken "walk to lot" feature.
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bon Voyage satisfaction on: 2007 September 14, 08:21:44
I actually like Bon Voyage though I'm not a vacation fan myself - I never go on vacation.

But there are some really nice things in BV, stuff that made me laugh and THAT I like.
Also, the asian (kind of chinese/japanese) theme is a very nice thing to play with. Though the constant Tai Chi stuff is annoying.
I could have lived without the tropical theme - as said not a vacation/beach fan - the mountain one is nice, too.

Over all BV has less impact on every day life of the Sims than the other eps, the benefits being temporal and such - not sure whether that's a good or a bad thing...

I need the Community Time project updated for BV so vacations actually take time - only question is, how being away from work for seven days would be handled.

is anyone going to pick this up? It was such a great idea... I would use it even if it wasen´t perfekt. The time loops back are just so anoing..
I second that!

I've been using this hack from the beginning and it's crucial to my way of playing the game.
If anyone would look into it that this hack's made compatible with Bon Voyage, it would be very much appreciated!

There are only a few hacks I consider essential* to the Sims 2, this hack is number one on my list.

* J.M. Pescado's hacks are mere fixes to me. I have the entire director's cut in my game just so the game can be played as should have been intended.

I can't find any information on the new icons that came with the Seasons expansion pack, so I take it they're not included, yet?
Not yet. Should be up in a few days though.

I'm looking forward to it! Smiley

19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Counting woohoo, not partners on: 2007 April 12, 07:58:17
No, it doesn't. The pie menu strings are quite misleading.

It only counts how many woohoo partners a sim had.

22  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Which hack let you select who was going on a community lot? on: 2007 March 20, 20:33:44
I've asked this somewhere else already some weeks ago - never got a satisfying answer, but I think I could get one here perhaps... Wink

Is there any way to somehow have a pet join such a group?

The scenario I wish to be able to play is taking a sim and his dog to a community lot without having to take the whole family with him.
Up until now I can't seem to accomplish that (unless there's only one sim and his dog on the lot, of course).

It is supposed to work with *owned* community lots, too, right?

Cause one of my sims just purchased a community lot and after going there and doing some business he closed up and went home (by custom car - which otherwise worked fine so far). But instead of being delayed in returning he arrived at home immediately.

It's the first time this has happened with version 0.5a.
I'm going to do some further testing...

By the way, thanks so very much for fixing this triple-game-speed-issue - this bugged me big time.

Okay, than...didn't know that.

This hack is great by the way - hadn't had any other (actually hack related) problems as of version 0.5.

Found a bug, I think - or a missing feature... Wink

Had a sim have a date (some townie) on a community lot and had her take her date home without asking the date first - just sending them home in the car. Both got into the car, but only the playable sim actually got home (delayed as supposed to) and the date and the date meter were gone - obviously.
