16401  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Identical Twins on: 2005 July 18, 10:07:04
Well, pre-Uni, all sims would spawn with the same aging outfit for every age category unless you had an existing set of uniforms, in which case one was randomly selected so that it would clash as horribly as possible. Alternatively, you got the "Tracksuit of Shame".

As for "identical" twins, either your parents had very similar personalities so there wasn't much room for random variance, or you were suffering the Firstborn Effect, which normally doesn't apply to twin births, unless you were to do something like reboot the game and advance to the same sequence number before the second baby spawned. However, appearances can easily be identical, particularly if you pick the same hair and are using gen-zero sims with homogenous genetic traits.
16402  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Other Games? on: 2005 July 18, 10:03:54
I'll have to give some of these games you mentioned a whirl sometime. I think I might have some of them still unplayed in my archives.
16403  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Identical Twins on: 2005 July 18, 09:59:58
I'm honestly uncertain where you got those two from at all. According to people who have dissected Brandi's DNA, Brandi has no blonde genes and cannot actually produce blondes. Dustin and Beau are thus not her real children and were actually swapped at birth by the now defunct hospital.

As for the first-born effect, this would cause the sequential twin births to always result in sims with identical personalities (A=C, B-D), unless you either manually dry-fired the generator or used the Lot Debugger to do this. However, it's pretty common for siblings of first-generation families to appear identical, since when a sim is spawned in CAS, he generally has homozygous genetics which assert themselves in fairly predictable order when combined with another gen-zero sim. Thus, your first generation siblings may all look very alike. But your picture seems to contradict the established data on Brandi's genetics, so I dunno WHAT you did to get those two.
16404  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So what is an overpopulated neighborhood anyway? on: 2005 July 18, 05:58:26
Go into your neighborhoods directory and count the character files. Windoze will give a count of how many files you have in that directory. That's how many characters you have.
16405  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: is there any way to raise the maximum number of sims allowed in one home on: 2005 July 18, 05:57:49
It's actually not so bad if you make use of Macrotastics "College Rampage" and "Power Idle" options. Smiley
16406  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Can't fufill "Graduate 3 Children" want? on: 2005 July 18, 05:43:58
I think all of the memory-count wants are a little dodgy. I had a sim get the "20 best friends" want satisfaction, without actually having 20 best friends, and without it actually going away. And the "Woohoo With Everyone" want gets satisfied without a memory, even though there's supposed to be one.

I'll look into making a fix for Graduate 3 children on the Lot Debugger.
16407  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Myths, Urban Legends, And Apocrypha Of TS2 Explored And Exploded on: 2005 July 18, 05:20:32
Well, the odds of 4 independent children (your first 3 are fixed to be boys and not random) being boys is 6.25%. This is slightly better than the odds of rolling a 1, which, as any D&D player can tell you, happens constantly. 'sides, you can hardly claim Brandi is having those children at all if you're adopting them from the Ugly Baby Generator.
16408  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Myths, Urban Legends, And Apocrypha Of TS2 Explored And Exploded on: 2005 July 18, 04:55:48
Brandi Broke *CAN* have girls, but there are a few factors which promote boys. Brandi's third child, the one she starts pregnant with, is always a boy as an artifact of the way baby genders are determined: Because Skip Broke is "unlinked", the child is always a self-pollination of Brandi. In such a case, the game is programmed to always produce a baby that is the opposite gender of the mother, so you're going to get another boy. This gives Brandi 3 guaranteed boys to start with, completely nonrandomly. If, for some reason, you want to give her *MORE* children, you have a 50/50 shot of getting yet another boy. What's more, Brandi is pollinated at game-startup. It is possible, by sheer random chance, for this pollination to result in twins, which, by the rules above, will always yield twin boys if this happens. You can easily get 4-5 boys out of Brandi with very little "random" involved yet.

I'm not a big fan of Backgammon online. I prefer the real deal, because I'm much better at it in person. As in, I ruthlessly and unmercifully pummel you every single game thanks to my fine physical control. Smiley
16410  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: is there any way to raise the maximum number of sims allowed in one home on: 2005 July 18, 04:50:30
If you're performing a highly unrecommended mass-neighborhood-migration, in theory, any number of sims can be crammed onto a lot as long as they don't move out more than 8 at a time. However, all of this is generally unrecommended. Under even unusual conditions, a lot should not exceed 10-12 people, and even then not for very long.
16411  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So what is an overpopulated neighborhood anyway? on: 2005 July 18, 04:47:57
Trouble reportedly sets in sometime past the 800 mark. I'm currently running at somewhere under 500 in my neighborhood.
16412  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Can't fufill "Graduate 3 Children" want? on: 2005 July 18, 01:30:47
Known Uni bug. Indirect Want Satisfaction is mildly borked. This has been reported with other indirect wants also, where they only reliably work if the wanter is on the lot at the time it happens. What this means is that in order for Graduate 3 Sims, Marry off 6 sims, etc., to be satisfied properly, it has to happen while the wanting sim is instanced in the game, in this case, when you return from your final. It's kind of broken, and I don't really see a good solution.
16413  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: The Email Challenge...Because Those Other Challenges Are Boring And For Wusses! on: 2005 July 18, 01:28:06
You could still use him as a genetic donor...well, except for his overwhelming laziness. That's not really such a great trait.
16414  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: is there any way to raise the maximum number of sims allowed in one home on: 2005 July 18, 01:26:38
Lots can temporarily hold more sims, but as a long-term this, this causes serious problems and is best not done.
16415  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Anyone cracked the Infuence to Clean bug that uses up all the Uni food? on: 2005 July 18, 01:25:58
There isn't a fix for this. I discovered this amusing bit of logic when doing Macrotastics, and fixed it there, but the influence one remains wonky, didn't touch that one. Not worth it. Influence is just not important enough that you'd want to waste it on that anyway. And why would you waste it cleaning a dorm? It's not like it's your mess or your house.
16416  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Factoids and Statistics on Skill Gaining on: 2005 July 17, 20:21:59
- For Body, use the treadmill or multipress (whichever works better).
Note that the treadmill cannot be used with complete success until a skill of 700 (7) is reached. If you're using the Skillinator, this matter is handle for you, but otherwise, you're going to have severe ADHD problems with most of the new Uni exercise equipment, especially the treadmill.

Quote
- For all skills, career rewards are always faster, especially if another sim can help them with it.
Correct?
Few caveats: The Candy Machine provides no benefit over the bookshelf or Yummy, and requires a skill of at least 700 to use successfully. Of course, if you WANT to generate an invisopuddle, go for it at 400 and below, and you're sure to get one. The invisopuddle has a few uses with toddlers. As a method of pure skilling, however, it is ineffectual.

The Biotech station is entirely worthless operated solo, as it has one of the worst average performance values in the game due to the stop-and-go. It only becomes competitive with an instructor, and even then, requires horrid amounts of micromanagement unless the Skillinator is handling it.

Children cannot use the Scanner Gun successfully at all without an instructor, due to the severe ADHD effect.

Other interesting notes are that when a child is trained on the Candy Machine and the Surgical Station, since he is not the one using it, he will not quit due to mood or need decrease and can continue for quite some time as a result. The instruction in this case will end only when the instructor stops, or possibly at much lower point. This is convenient, as it avoids the sim food obsession.
16417  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Welcome Pescado on: 2005 July 17, 20:13:03
Well, I suppose it still needs to be fed. After all, somebody's gotta change the batteries.
16418  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Board-Warming Party! on: 2005 July 17, 20:11:58
Of course not. I know better than to get caught. Besides, there aren't any houses here to hit even if I wanted to hit them.
16419  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: GUID question on: 2005 July 17, 20:11:09
Recolors reference a GUID, they don't USE a GUID, so this is normal.
16420  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Cell phones, and neighbourhoods exploding on: 2005 July 17, 12:22:43
There's no super-cure that prevents this from happening, no. Really, it's quite baffling, as the phone appears to be functionally correct, but instead crashes the entire game inexplicably.
16421  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: The Email Challenge...Because Those Other Challenges Are Boring And For Wusses! on: 2005 July 17, 11:48:41
As a general rule of thumb, there's a window of optimal conception for sim-children, beginning Wednesday 1800 and running until approximately early Friday morning. Children conceived within this window, and aged immediately out of the baby stage the moment the option is available (you can use the Automated Baby Controller, while holding the baby at the appropriate time, to do this without the annoyance of a finicky and unreliable cake), will be able to enjoy a full 4 day toddler period for maximum skill gain opportunities, and transition to childhood automatically during a weekend with at least one day to spare for the Headmaster. Otherwise, you're going to have to shortchange things by aging via cake or Grow Up sometime after 1000 on the last day. This means you'll immediately lose a day of childhood as the clock will increment again at 1800 that same day. Not such a good deal.

So remember: Wednesday night to Friday morning. That's the time to try for babies.
16422  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Cell phones, and neighbourhoods exploding on: 2005 July 17, 11:45:00
That depends on if you have the AutoYak or Phone Hack installed.

If you do not have them installed, then the only cure is to replace the lot file that the family lives on with an older backup, which should revert everyone's instanced state to that timeperiod. Skills, memories, and othersuch will be retained. If anyone was added to the family during that time, then they will respawn by the mailbox.

If you *DO* have it installed, then temporarily remove one, preferrably starting with the AutoYak (if you have it, you're probably using this as your dominant phone call choice). Then restart the game and enter the lot. The removal of one of these should invalidate the phone interaction and force the sim to reset, unjamming him so the game doesn't explode on lot-load. Now that you have unjammed the lot, you should save it and replace the hacks.

Note that the problem is not actually caused by the hacks, but yanking the rug out from under things in TS2 is a good way to cause a reset if you can't access the object to force an error on it.

There is a pregnancy modifier token that does affect twin chances, but it is not a factor that you can influence: Food does NOT affect the pregnancy modifier token, it simply appears on your sim for unknown reasons, possibly randomly, or in connection with being a twin. In any case, it is not an effect that you can influence through any specific known action.
16424  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Board-Warming Party! on: 2005 July 17, 06:28:53
Don't diss wild boars? Have you ever seen one of these brutes in action? They attack just for the hell of it, they just like to wreak havoc. A friend of mine told me that a mortally wounded wild boar attacked their high-stand and kept at it for at least five minutes before it finally realized it was already dead. If you can't kill them with a single shot, you better be a very fast runner, a good climber, or an exceptionally calm person so you can shot it again and do it right this time, otherwise you're dead. May I recommend a tank for boar hunting purposes? Tongue
Yes, I have seen them in action. I do, in fact, own a tank. And I've killed these things before. With a spear. They taste great. Kinda tough, chewy texture.

One of my dogs is a Catahoula hound (the Louisiana state dog). They're called "Hog Dogs" because their original purpose was to bring these boars down. And these things are not little Babe-like pigs. They are as big as bears and much, much more ruthless.
Yes, they're quite persistent. This kind of bloody-minded persistence can make then surprisingly predictable and easy to dispatch if you remain calm and do not panic.

It's still fun to play.  So far, except for the inevitable interruptions when the sims are getting desparate about toilets, they're doing quite well.  I gave these sims only 2 personality points for neatness, hoping they would not mind using the front lawn as their loo, but they're still upset about having accidents.
I thought the entire point was NOT to have accidents.
