I haven't posted here in ages (IIRC, the last time I did post, I called Pescado a fucktard or some such), but I want to vote.

I like the anarchist cats.

DJS sims' owner is a teenaged boy, as far as I know.  Very clever and very nice. Smiley (Which is not my general opinion of teenaged boys right now, being the incredibly irritated mother of one such creature).  Sad  With cause, I might add (the irritated part).

I was willing to take bets that one of the first establishments the new x-pack would spawn was the brothel.

What is it about sims players?  No one's RL is fulfilling enough? Roll Eyes Grin

Did it ever occur to you in all of your anti-pay site fist pumping and "work ethic" pontifications that maybe some people charge for content because a)there will always be people out there willing to pay for it and b) they enjoy making objects, clothes, etc and would like to make money doing something that they enjoy?

I think that's it in a nutshell.  If people are willing to pay for things, other people will sell them things. If one doesn't like paysites, all one has to do is not subscribe/donate/pay.  If enough people act that way, paysites will no longer exist.  I could never get my head around these protracted arguments.  It's a very simple matter of demand channeling supply (and vice versa).

Flowerchile, I haven't read every entry in this thread, but I think it was very good of you to apologize, and I'm not sure anyone else remarked on it.

5  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Reason for crashing? on: 2006 February 20, 12:47:26
I went through a period where each one of my Maxis-made lots would crash. And I never found the cause.

Eventually I moved the families out and into new houses, and all is well (for the time being).

Getting a whole site is expensive and a lot of creators at TSR are forever stuck there lol.
Sometimes I wonder at the attraction of TSR to these talented creators  Huh
It can't be the free days. Serious creators create and don't play much.

Because the featured artists get paid.
7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bugger this backwards! on: 2006 February 03, 11:45:22
Before I got my new computer, I couldn't build pools if my graphics settings were on high.

Don't know if this is helpful to you.  Just a thought.
8  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Random desktop crashes on: 2006 January 24, 22:17:19
This game is incredibly buggy for me, too.  I never had these kinds of problems with Sims 1, at least when I wasn't idiotically deleting cmx files and the like. Grin

Angelyne, I wish I could advise you but as you've probably surmised by now that would be useless.  But I'm sorry you're having such problems.
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Technical question - removing custom content on: 2006 January 24, 11:25:49
Thanks for the info on finding dupes--that should be helpful.  (I myself am a dupe, but we won't get into that now). Sad
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Fool me twice... on: 2006 January 24, 11:24:32
Thanks, Baraton, and Sagana too.  I did save with the tv and stereo on, come to think of it.  *sigh*  I've never been able to play extensively without a  lot or two crashing at some point--I think I'm cursed. Huh

Sorry you're in pain, Baraton.
11  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Fool me twice... on: 2006 January 23, 23:38:27
Thanks for your advice.  I have no hacks at all at this point, so that's not the problem.  And as for the Maxis-reversion problem, it seems to be confined to one lot, and I probably  hadn't enabled custom content before entering it.  I still can't figure out what corrupts one lot after the other in my game, though.  My poor simmies will have to live out of suitcases for awhile, I guess. Cry
12  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Fool me twice... on: 2006 January 23, 21:43:07
Thank you Angelyne!  That's exactly what I've done, although the problem keeps recurring and I've somehow got to figure out what's causing it.

I just installed NL, which I've had hanging around the house for months, to see whether I just had some incompatibilities.  Now what's happened is that half of the objects in my houses have disappeared and have been replaced by some Gawd-awful Maxis stuff (yes, I did enable custom content, and no, I did not back up my pre-NL game).  I think I will have some tea and go lie down.
13  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Fool me twice... on: 2006 January 23, 20:54:06
Huh.  I actually meant knitting as a substitute for this bloody game. Angry

So no one has advice to offer?  And after I told you all about Pescado's senior membership discount???  Huh.
14  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Fool me twice... on: 2006 January 23, 18:24:20
Actually about five times now.   I have a consistent problem with houses not loading. I'll get into a lot, decorate the house, play for a bit, all is fine, and the next time the game will load and load and look exactly like it's doing something, but it just goes on in an endless loop and doesn't open the lot. Undecided

Yes, I do have the critical fixes for Uni (I don't have NL installed). Lots of downloads, but no other hacks (I've run everything through Clean Installer).  Brand new computer, lots of RAM, I don't know what else to report except that I'm about to take up knitting.

Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer.
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So has anyone actually ever paid the 40 bucks to join? on: 2006 January 22, 00:00:02
I'd like to thank Mr. Pescado for the very generous senior discount. Kiss
16  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Neighborhood apocalypse - on purpose? on: 2006 January 18, 11:53:16
Only marginally on topic, but Swiftgold, you should read Connie Willis' The Doomsday Book if you haven't already. Sci-fi fantasy Black Death, absolutely wonderful.  And I just read a terrific history by James Kelly called The Great Mortality.

17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: HACK RATING SYSTEM on: 2006 January 15, 22:41:36
In which level do we need to get out the duct tape?

But seriously, thank you for this.  I don't like using hacks, but the fiery ball doesn't appeal to me either.
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hack requests revisited on: 2006 January 13, 21:38:12
You know, I've been looking for that too!  I fondly remember the computer skilling in Sims 1--one stop shopping, as it were.

Thanks for the info. Smiley
19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How to delete or fix a fubared maxi dresser? on: 2006 January 11, 19:14:59
You didn't happen to download a clothing rack that lets you select any clothing at home like you select when you are shopping? I downloaded a dresser that was supposed to allow all clothing without having to buy it. It caused regular dressers to crash my game as well as royally screwing up buying on community lots. I'd first pull any custom content out of your downloads folder that has to do with dressers and see if that fixes the problem. If it does, you can add back one by one each dresser until you find out which one is the problem.

WHOA! I wonder if that's what's  freezing my simmies!  Thank you for the idea--in fact, the problem did start after I installed that clothing rack!
20  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Wonky freeze-ups , Waaaahhhh on: 2006 January 11, 11:46:21
Thanks, Z.Z., I'll try the fix.  Sorry for not answering last night, I fell asleep over the smoldering ruins of my computer. Embarrassed
21  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Wonky freeze-ups , Waaaahhhh on: 2006 January 11, 01:49:19
Thanks, I'll try that. But I'm confused, because I've newly installed the game (with Uni) on a new computer and have made all my families from scratch.  In other words, there was no pre-Uni game.

And the weird thing is that the game loads just fine, plays well for a few minutes, and then the characters simply freeze and cannot be moved.  This has now happened in three lots which until this week were running smoothly.

I've managed to locate the testing cheat, so if it happens again I'll debug and post the results.

Thanks very much for replying!b Smiley
22  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Wonky freeze-ups , Waaaahhhh on: 2006 January 11, 01:32:28
Thank you for replying, Gali.  Smiley

I don't think it's RAM or drivers because it's a brand new computer and video card, etc.

I tried deleting the groups.cache and will see if that helps.  The houses in question are all Maxis, and yes, they predate Uni. But I didn't realize there was a problem with this--I thought it was only with pre-NL houses. Huh Huh
23  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Wonky freeze-ups , Waaaahhhh on: 2006 January 11, 00:57:01
I have only the original game and uni installed, and have  JMP's critical fixes for Uni, no other hacks.  (I do have Ingle's teleporter and Merola's multipurpose painting.  Those aren't considered hacks, are they?)

Anyhoo, I get to the point in every house I've been playing where the simmies just freeze.  I can click on them, but can't get them to move.

What am I doing wrong NOW???  This game gives me such an inferiority complex, I swear it's like being back in junior high school.

And no, I didn't get debug message because I will freely admit that I don't know how to debug. *hangs head*

24  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bloody Build mode. It is out to get me on: 2006 January 06, 22:51:13
This must be some sort of Guinness Book of World Records entry:  succeeding in meaningfully mentioning the Sims and Feng Shui in the same sentence.

My hat is off to you, Avie.
25  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Animated custom hair on: 2006 January 06, 01:42:51
Thanks for these great suggestions!  Zephyr, I'd never been to  Simpathetic before--what a find! Smiley
