*Eyes thread dubiously*

UNhappy Valentine's Day, all?

(Though personally I can't see how any holiday inextricably linked with chocolate can be all bad...wait, that's all of them now, isn't it?)

Makes me wish once again for a "nudge awake" interaction.

I kind of wish there was a "put to bed" interaction so another Sim could pick up the collapsed one and put them where they belong.  XD

harmless' handy-dandy no-hacks-needed 100% tested:

How to Make Your Sims Glow Blue

This is a glitch that sometimes occurs when you have a Sim drink the Elixir of Life.
It took me a minute to figure out how to make them do it every time.

Step 1: When they are in a Gold or Platinum Mood pause the game then make sure your Sim isn't wearing what you want them to sleep in (i.e. no pajamas or undies - this is important!) and that you have the Elixir in the bedroom (actually last night I had a Sim drink from one downstairs and then go straight to bed upstairs and the same effect still happened so maybe the most important thing is just the order - drink, then sleep but put it in the bedroom to be sure!).

Step 2: Queue up "Drink Elixir", followed immediately by going to bed; clicking on it and choosing "Sleep in Pajamas (or Undies or Naked, as long as your Sim isn't already in it!)".

Step 3: Fast Forward (use the >>> or hit '3' on your keyboard). They'll drink the Elixir then immediately head for bed and spin into the their sleepwear causing the blue glow to stick to them.

To end the effect just have them drink from the elixir again while in gold or platinum.

If you can't get it to work, you just ain't doing it right.  Wink
I've done this with over 15 Sims, mostly by accident  Roll Eyes and it has worked every time.
Got pics if you need proof.  Kiss

Now to mess with SimPE for those other cool effects you guys are talking about.

I wonder if you have a Sim 'Scope Room' right as the Sim they are attracted to is getting into bed if the same thing will happen.  Seems like it would be hard to get the timing right.

Well that's pretty darn nifty!  Thanks, and good luck with figuring out the other stuff!

Just wanted to note that adding more than 1 GB of memory may not improve your performance if the only thing you're going to be running at any given time is The Sims 2, but if you tend to have other programs open at the same time, it may make a BIG difference.  I frequently wind up with Firefox, AOL, ZoneAlarm, Photoshop and the Sims 2 running all at the same time, occasionally with iTunes thrown in if I'm feeling reckless, and I was literally running out of memory before I boosted my system to 1.5 GB.  Even now I sometimes see slowdowns if I have a lot of things running at once.

Then again, all I've got is an overclocked Athlon 2800 1.8 GHz and a GeForce FX 5200 (128 MB,) so this might not hold true for bigger, snazzier systems.

<sigh> I could swear I've seen a site that had glowing sims - fairy sims, I believe - a blue fairy specifically, I believe.

But I've been looking since I saw this thread and I can't find it Sad I haven't yet played a fantasy theme so I haven't bookmarked them - just scrolled by looking for something else.

Maybe it was really just a story pic or something... or I'm just insane.

But I really thought there was one. Nobody else has seen it?

Thank you for looking, sagana.  If you do happen to find it again, please let me know!

This mod will allow you to add the various effects to a sim, but I'm not sure which effects it includes, and if the chosen effect stays if the sim travels to a community lot.

Oh wow, thanks!!  It includes the blue Elixir Success glow and a "beam of light" that follows a Sim around.  It's not precisely what I had in mind, but much better than nothing.  Haven't tried it on a Community Lot yet but I will.  :)

Heh, thanks.  I figured, what the hey, I've already got angels, demons, Apocalyptic Horsepersons and personifications of dead Norse and Egyptian gods hanging around, might as well go all the way and add Him Above and Him Below as well.  (Though how I'm going to manage a perpetually burning Sim who never dies I'm not sure.)  XD

Pratchett & Gaiman fan, by any chance?

I'd love to see any screenshots you may have of the characters in this neighborhood -- sounds wild!

Massive Good Omens fan.  I've got one GO-themed neighborhood that's vaguely canon-ish and another tailored for a Good Omens RPG I'm in.  XD  I don't have a lot of in-game shots but there's some stuff from both hoods and BodyShop under the first link.

It would be funny if you stuck the scope room glow on "god" and that meant that everyone thought he was hot.

Grin  Well that's not really what I had in mind, but yes, it would be funny.  XD
884  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? on: 2006 February 03, 04:21:05
I've had glowing teens.
Sometimes when teens drink elixier of life, the glow gets stuck, and they keep glowing until they grow up.
I haven't had it happen in a while though.  It's probably fixed in a patch or something.

Yeah, there are several ways for Sims to get a glow in the game.  I just need one that stays.  Isn't the elixir glow green, though?  :)

I want God to live in my neighborhood.  XD
Can't help you in the least but I wanted to say I find your idea intrigues me.

*twojeffs points and laughs.

However, I don't see why it couldn't be done although I'm not sure what the point of it would be.

I want God to live in my neighborhood.  XD

Edited: Smart-milk or attraction glow would work fine too.  I'm not picky.  Though actual lamp-type light would be my first choice.  I poked around in a lamp package and found some stuff dealing with light, but it's far beyond my understanding as yet.

Well, at least here I can be scorned by awesome people instead of schmucks.  XD
888  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Glowing Sims: Possible? on: 2006 February 03, 02:51:35
Okay, well, nobody over at MTS2 seems to know, so maybe someone here will deign to point and laugh and explain why this isn't possible.

Could a Sim be made to glow?  I mean, just walk around emitting light like an ambulatory floor lamp?  Doesn't matter if it's the skin or the clothes or the hair or even full-face makeup, as long as the effect is that the dude shines wherever he goes.  Anybody know?  I'm not afraid to muck around in SimPE but I haven't done that much with it yet...
889  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Zodiac Compatability on: 2006 February 01, 04:49:14
I'm sure this has probably been asked before but can someone please point me in the right direction to find information on Zodiac compatability in NL?

Cheers
Stormy

FWIW, I also made this a while back:

http://www.sims2community.com/showthread.php?t=8046

It's got the astrological compatibility broken down in a bit more detail than the one at the EA site.
890  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Clarification - Maxis terrain paints on: 2006 January 27, 19:33:22
I realize I'm probably being too optimistic, but does anybody know whether anyone either in the mod community or at Maxis is trying to fix this problem?  It sounds so absurdly simple, but I've heard that it involves parts of the code that can't easily be modified (at least by anyone except Maxis?)
891  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Fool me twice... on: 2006 January 23, 22:46:55
Actually about five times now.   I have a consistent problem with houses not loading. I'll get into a lot, decorate the house, play for a bit, all is fine, and the next time the game will load and load and look exactly like it's doing something, but it just goes on in an endless loop and doesn't open the lot. Undecided

Yes, I do have the critical fixes for Uni (I don't have NL installed). Lots of downloads, but no other hacks (I've run everything through Clean Installer).  Brand new computer, lots of RAM, I don't know what else to report except that I'm about to take up knitting.

Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer.

I had this problem at one time with several houses.  One of them I managed to fix by deleting the file Groups.cache from my My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 folder (it's automatically regenerated when you restart the game.)  I gather this file can cause a lot of issues if it gets corrupted, which isn't uncommon.

The others were resolved when I realized I had inadvertantly stuck a bunch of old, unfinished and/or conflicting hacks and objects under that same folder, so the game was trying to load them all and choking on something.  *Facepalms*  Once I moved them elsewhere, everything started loading properly again.  So, you could have a mod conflict.  Smiley
892  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Setting sexual preferences with flirt interactions on: 2006 January 17, 23:40:54
Or you could download LizzLove's Gender Preference Adjuster from MTS2, which will allow you to fine-tune Sim preferences from within the game.

893  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What the... (a strange graphics glitch) on: 2005 December 15, 02:46:51
I also have a GeForce card, and routinely see a bug where the display randomly flips back to an earlier point in the game for a split second, then returns to the present.  I assumed it was some hack I was using until I moved my Downloads folder out of the game to test something and it still happened.  Now I'm wondering if it's the card...
894  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Request: Fix for Monday Day Off Penalty on: 2005 November 19, 18:32:14
Question: Is there any way this bug could affect custom careers?

I ask because I have two I made that are having a similar glitch, but only a very few people have reported the problem and it kicks in immediately, so the affected Sims are penalized for missing a day of work rather than getting a vacation day.  It also seems to happen on every day off (none of the work days span midnight.)

SuperFly over at MTS2 has been looking into it for me, but neither he nor I have been able to reproduce the problem in our own games, and he can't find a problem with the career code.  One person seems to have fixed it by reinstalling the two careers separately, but so far that hasn't worked for anyone else.

Anyway, it'd be really helpful to know if it's a glitch in the game rather than something boneheaded I did when making them (which, alas, seems far more likely)...
