Thanks for sharing your efforts. They both look good enough to be worth a try in my game, even if you consider them less than perfect. Meanwhile, though, I must ask: what male skintone is that? The forearm is positively gorgeous in detail, and while I can't see much of the chest, it obviously has some hair as well. Please tell!
The skin is by Hysterical Paroxysm and can be found at SexySims2. :)

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / TS2 Hair Conversions: *UPDATED* Jeanette and Uni male ponytail
|
on: 2009 August 29, 09:10:53
|
8/29/09: Updated with separate male and female Jeanette versions! Less clippage, better hairline, more shininess! Delete and re-download if the spirit moves you! Since all anyone else seems interested in converting from TS2 is fancy custom content hairstyles, I was forced to figure out how to do it myself in order to retrieve a couple of very simple Maxis meshes that I like and have sorely missed. Please bear in mind these are the first such conversions I have done, and that these are extremely low-poly meshes and therefore are not going to look quite as nice in-game as some other styles will. My attempts at color-enabling the roots, tips, etc. met with mixed success. Anyone with more hair-making talent who would like to take a stab at either of these is very welcome to do so. The 'Jeanette' bonus style, enabled for males and females, Teen through Elder: Download Male Version: http://www.mediafire.com/file/qtqyzwln0zl/Ambular_JeanetteHairForTS3_Male.rarDownload Female Version: http://www.mediafire.com/file/g2iwm5rrlmx/Ambular_JeanetteHairForTS3_Female.rarOddly enough, despite being designed originally for female Sims, this one turned out looking better on the guys in spite of all my efforts to make it look equally nice on the ladies. It's animated, though there's an unfortunate amount of clipping in back when the Sim moves around a lot that I was not able to prevent. This bugged me so much I finally went back and split the mesh into two packages, one for men and one for women. The male version will overwrite the old one for any male Sims it was used on, but not the female one, which is now an entirely separate hairstyle. The female hairline has been fixed (see picture) and now has a proper female thumbnail image in CAS, and clippage has been somewhat reduced for both versions. Redownloading is not necessary but is recommended. Also please note that one of my testers reported unexplained crashing when moving in male Sims with this hair; her game was not patched and she was not using AwesomeMod, which may have affected her results (my own game and another tester's did not have this issue) so please test it in your own game before you put it on any important Sims. New info: Apparently the crashing was an unrelated neighborhood issue, so the hair should be okay for general use, barring any other bug reports. And, the male ponytail from University, male only, Teen through Elder: Download: http://www.mediafire.com/file/zogj1migydy/Ambular_UniAMPonyHairForTS3.rarNo known issues with this one. It also has some clippage in the back, but it's not too noticeable in most circumstances. The hair tie is not recolorable and will appear pretty much black regardless of hair color. Hope you all enjoy them. Please report any problems you encounter. Permission is hereby granted to direct-link to the files and images for convenience, but please give credit and include a link to this thread.

Veronica, I'm trying out your way to patch to 1.3, but I fail. I can't get to update 1.2 -> 1.3. The invalid file format error occurs, plus no update appears at the launcher. There is the possibility that my 1.3 isn't EU (which is my version), so I will try that... tomorrow. For now, no AwesomeMod though.
EDIT: I found out using Deplhy's PatchLogViewer that code_version.txt is not updated! Can a good soul post whatever is in their code_version so I can copy it? Mine is: description=Version: 0.DL-0.0.11195 Changelist: 625803
IIRC, I had a problem with that file with the last patch, and merely copying the contents isn't enough. You need someone to package the file itself in a .zip or .rar to send it to you, and then unzip it to its correct location so that it retains the correct date and time stamp. :p

According to jfade, who says he also used a packet sniffer to double-check exactly what the thing does, Trend Micro Internet Security is known to throw false positives for a number of programs with similar functionality. He says, and I quote, that the Workshop "accesses TSR to download an XML document that tells if there's a new version as well as other news about the tool. Downloads 4 JPG images. THAT'S IT." Also, it can be successfully blocked by firewalls, etc.
I am inclined to believe jfade, as he has never given me reason to doubt his word, so I will probably download the thing when I find a need for it. YMMV.

Is that a very recent build of the program? The one I've been using has a differently named .exe and ZoneAlarm has never reported that it attempted to access the internet, nor have any of the several anti-malware programs I run regularly turned up any issues. ETA: Okay, apparently that version was released today and added massive new functionality to the tool. The older version (that only included the plugin for making new patterns) scans clean according to VirusTotal, ThreatFire, SpywareDoctor, and Malwarebytes, so anyone who's been using it can probably continue to do so without fear. In light of this report, the following sections of the EULA for the thing take on a rather ominous tone, as does the fact that the download page for the program makes a special point of directing the user to go read it before downloading: - 5. I happen to like the TSR utility because it has a really helpful preview function, but I'm sure you could do the same thing with Delphy's tool.
Delphy added a preview a few days after the first release of his tool, too :) You might want to pick up the latest version. The advantage of his tool (completely aside from the cooties issue) is that it saves your pattern as .package, instead of .sims3pack as in the case of the TSR tool. Nice job on these patterns AmberDiceless :) Thank you, I'll go have another look at it. These are, however, in .package format, not .sims3pack. I extracted them using jfade's 3Viewer. :)

thanks, would like to know just how did you manage to convert them... Well, you can use SimPE's Scenegrapher Resource Finder to locate and extract the LIFO images for the beddings from TS2. Instructions for creating a TS3 pattern are available both at TSR and at MTS using Delphy's Pattern Packager. I happen to like the TSR utility because it has a really helpful preview function, but I'm sure you could do the same thing with Delphy's tool. You can't just grab the whole image and plop it into a new file, unfortunately; the bedding has wrinkle lines and shadows that would look odd if you did. You have to find one or two good clean instances of each element you want in the new pattern and then arrange them so that they tile seamlessly in the correct order. If you compare the pink quilt with the TS2 original, you'll see that I cut several pieces out of it and rearranged them completely to get it to work; it's not the identical pattern, only an approximation. As far as the actual making of the pattern, there's a fair bit of fussing involved to make sure that the channels are cleanly separated. It can be confusing at first if you're not used to working with channels (I wasn't), but once you get the hang of it it's not too bad. I did not use HP's vector technique--I just did the whole thing in Photoshop--so these may not be the very highest possible quality, but I'm pretty happy with them. A TSR booby trap! Haha.
Thanks for these. The recoloring of TS3 makes a lot less need for me to go out and get tons of bedding, but these patterns make me oddly nostalgic so I will use them. ;D Actually, although I tend to be rather distrustful of TSR generally, I doubt they intentionally made their tool to break recompression in this case. The two utilities were developed separately at the same time and probably just suffered an invisible bike crash. It's annoying, but probably will be rectified sooner or later. I'm not going to go crazy converting the beddings, as most of them were crap anyway, but it's nice to have a few familiar touches back in the game. :)

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Three TS2 Bedding Patterns for TS3 (UPDATED)
|
on: 2009 July 15, 04:21:58
|
As we all know, most of the Maxis bedding in TS2 was about as attractive as a barrel of nicely-aged yak vomit. Of those few patterns that conscience actually permitted me to inflict on my Sims, I discovered that several are not particularly well-suited to being tiled for use in TS3. However, here are three that I managed to convert, or at least adapt. The hunting quilt has 3 recolorable subsets, the pink quilt has 4, and the cream bedspread has 2. Please note that these were made using the TSR pattern tool, and for reasons unknown to me they do not play well with jfade's Compressorizer Redux or Pes's Recompressor. They will probably quit functioning if put through those tools. So don't. :p ETA: The cream and pink ones are both found in the Fabric category and the hunting quilt is under Themed. These are presented as .package files, not .sims3pack, and go in your Packages folder like other mods. No Launcher required! 7/15/09: I fixed a minor texture issue with the hunting quilt (a small black spot near the corner of one of the cream-colored diamonds.) Re-download if you like; it will overwrite the original file but probably will require resetting any items that are using the pattern. Sorry for any inconvenience. 8/2/ 09: I adjusted the base coloring in the pink quilt to more accurately reflect the original. For my reference, the hunting quilt was download 102 times before the revision and the pink one 238 times.

- Are there also no teen preg meshes? I would assume not, but I have no idea. I know this was handled in TS2 - can anyone brush me up on how? (No mesh? Custom mesh? Altered adult mesh?)
Custom meshes. Jase made them himself (I believe) for InTeen, both male and female.

I had a very odd problem with the kitchen cabinets. I was trying to recolor one of the short OverAchieving Overhead Cabinets to more or less match the Counter Culture ones (for use over the stove) and I kept finding that after I moved the Overachiever so it touched the others, I could no longer edit it in Create-A-Design, even if I then moved it away from them again.

I now present a whole fambly of cheesy puddings for your Simming pleasure. Please note: all of these Sims were made with AwesomeMod installed and the face slider tweak enabled at x4 multiplication. I take no responsibility for how they wind up looking if you do not use the mod. And yeah, my Sim's nose looks a bit odd. I must have a really weird nose, as it seems well-nigh impossible to duplicate it accurately... :pSim Ambular:Traits: Computer Whiz, Loner, Neat, Unflirty, (Demanded by Pescado) Good May be added via Awesome Mod: Frugal, Light Sleeper, Perfectionist LTW: Illustrious Author Favorites: Grilled Cheese, Pop, Blue Voice: 1, slightly below middle pitch Job: Bookstore or Grocery Store Clerk would be good, or Business or Education if you insist on a real career. Appropriate Skills: Writing Sim Amberspouse:Traits: Natural Cook, Handy, Family Oriented, Heavy Sleeper, Friendly LTW: The Culinary Librarian Favorites: Grilled Cheese, Indie, Blue Voice: 2, about 1/4 pitch Job: Culinary Appropriate Skills: Cooking, Fishing, Gardening, Handiness Sim Amberspawn:Traits: Artistic, Computer Whiz, Friendly Favorites: Mac and Cheese, Pop, Red Voice: 2, about 1/6 pitch Important Note: Amberspawn will definitely need to be sent back to CAS for tweaking when she ages up. :p Download Babu Cheese, since Pes is a fat obstreperous jerk: Sim Babu

the tipi is NOT an antiquated stereotype. I'm Native American, live on a reservation in the United States and yes, we do use tipis to this very day! So shut up
The stereotype comment referred to a bit in the original post that was later edited out, not to the tipi itself. Hope you like the object.
