Original link is broken, and as someone requested this, I've put it up here.  Sorry Mr. Lich!
27  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: KT's Store Fixes (updated 03.07.2013) on: 2013 March 21, 04:24:48
I have various other "blank" icons in CAS that then have missing meshes when put on the sim
I don't know if it has the same cause, but I am having this problem too, as well as duplicate icons where one item works, and the other has a missing mesh. Been messing around with this in a clean mods folder today, and discovered it's caused by the content patch I downloaded here. I don't decrap my stuff, just run it through s3rc and install as packages with Delphy's multi installer and I have all EPs & SPs, patched to 1.50. I've tried installing the content patch in both overrides and the content patch folder and still have the same problem, and the same thing with re-downloading the patch to make sure I had the most recent one. One interesting thing is that running the dashboard tool while the patch is in the packages folder doesn't show a conflict with the store CAS items, even though I opened up both in s3pe and saw that there were CASP files with the same instance number. Is it possible that a decrapped version of the content patch got uploaded on accident? Not sure if that's something that could even cause this, but it's driving me crazy trying to dress sims with this mess in my CAS. I'm really at a loss and am hoping there's not something incredibly obvious that I missed that's causing this.

I appear to be having the same problem as well...I'll mess with things when I get a chance and see if I can figure anything out.

Just how critical is the store content patch, anyway?  I got along without it for some time, but I also don't put my game through its paces to the extent that a lot of y'all do.

The store content patch link is invalid.

Could it be these are items you had installed before we had to decrap stuff? I know it sucks but you might just be better off reinstalling everything, I just spent the other night doing this. #stupidgreenhouse

I can't recall. Were we able to install store crap without decrapping when the store first started?

Yeah, when the TS3 store first opened, it all installed normally, whether you had technically paid for it or not.  Then EA realized their technical error, and everyone woke up one day to find all their store stuff missing from the game.  Roughly half a day later, the Sims community had already figured out three ways around the store's protection safeguards, chronicling their learnings here.  Then an absolute BLIZZARD of snowflakes all started posting, "ERMAGERD WHUR MAH STOER STUFS??!?" at the same time without bothering to search first, and the instructions were buried like Pompeii -- a trend that continues to this day, as the instructions for decrapping have been spelled out in several different threads created for the purpose of eliminating the questions of storetards only to fail miserably.

I don't suppose the actual date for the Dawn of Decrapification is recorded someplace un-buried?  *Eyes own archived store files dubiously*

(...) I've encountered with these sometimes when you go to CASt them then cancel doing so they become unCAStable again. (...)
That is actually something that I've frequently seen with EA's own, too. Fences, stairs and railings can become unCASTable and/or lose their CAST when the action is cancelled or undone.

I just ran into this issue last night and was wondering what was going on.  Thanks for the heads-up.
32  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: KT's Store Fixes (updated 12.20.2012) on: 2012 December 21, 17:48:39
Usually that just means one of two things: you're missing something that I fixed or you have a decrap/vanilla mismatch for that item. I can't say there should be anything for sinks in there, and if it's the stencils thing then you most likely have decrap/vanilla mismatch. Have you tried testing what's in your overrides folder one by one?

Okay, first I was wrong about the location of ContentPatch.package ...  I was moving things around, and when I said removing my overrides folder got rid of the blank thumbnails, at that time I had this file in there.

Having said that, I have completely narrowed it down to ContentPatch.package as what is causing my blank thumbnails.  That file, even without any other overrides or fixes will cause the blanks to show up.

Same thing that happened to me (mine is decrapped, for the record) but just as KT said when I reported it, it doesn't appear to be causing any other issues, just the blank thumbnails.
33  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: KT's Store Fixes (updated 11.20.2012) on: 2012 November 23, 17:35:50
I've just put the store patch (decrapped) in my Overrides folder, and it seems to be causing empty spaces in my Buy catalog which can be clicked and have a price listed, but there's no object or description.  I assume these are store items I don't have.  Is this an expected behavior or a cause for concern?

Did you need the store patch? It's only for those people who's store patches won't "stick" which requires us to update it every time or for those people that keep getting prompted to download the patch over and over when it's already been installed. The store patch doesn't need to be decrappified. It doesn't go in your Overrides folder either. It should go into the "content patch" folder in The Sims 3 folder.

I would assume I need it, since I don't allow my Launcher to access the internet and don't even have a tab for the store patch in there.  And KT's own instructions above say 'If you use this patch instead of the one the game generates I would suggest putting this in an overrides folder or in the program files mod folder with Awesomemod. Decrap if necessary.'  So I put it in Overrides and decrapped it, as I decrap everything else.

I would guess those are just items you don't have installed. The new patch changes a lot of fences and windows. They won't cause any harm, it's essentially just the main part of the object with none of the filling.

Okay, just wanted to make sure.  Thanks!

The problem with making highly idiot-proof, user-friendly meshing tools available to the masses is the same problem we've already seen with TSR Workshop (or better yet, BodyShop.)  You exponentially increase the amount of useless, nonsensical, redundant, and butt-ugly crap dumped on the custom content market.

I used to think it'd be neat if EA released their proprietary tools, until I realized the same would apply and we'd see an endless ocean of combination barbecue/shower/stereo objects, or mods to make your Sim get a promotion by dancing the Macarena naked on the roof of their house.

How patronising is this? I'm sorry Ambular, you personally have a lot of respect from me, but this kind of attitude makes me want to vomit. You don't HAVE to download everything out there, you know. But to remove the possiblity to create things from those who WOULD LIKE TO LEARN is totally idiotic. That's the attitude that says "this guy Einstein isn't good enough to be a patent clerk," or "We don't want a cripple wandering around the halls of Cambridge, being needy and doing slow maths when we have all those HEALTHY and WEALTHY potential professors. Dismiss Hawking." I am SO SICK of people who say "Oh, no, I can't possibly write a tutorial for noobs using the CURRENT version of SimPE or Blender, it would let the plebs into the house."
/rant

And I would LOVE a mod to make my Sims dance the Macarena naked on the roof of the house.

No, I just have to spend hours wading through all the crap to find the small percentage that's worth downloading.

You know what, all I ask is that some actual learning, understanding and effort is required.  The trend--not just in Sims modding, it's everywhere--seems to be toward big shiny buttons marked 'Fuck thinking or doing any work, just click here,' and it irks me.  In Sims terms, that kind of simplicity means content that the creator doesn't understand, can't offer support for and won't be able to fix if it breaks.

Is it a stupid question to ask when the updated Awesomemod will be up and running with 1.38?

Word of God as of an hour or so ago was "No idea.  Until Poofs stops reporting anything broken, I guess."

42  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Weird DCCache issues when installing Store/CC on: 2012 July 20, 05:41:14
I figured out some time ago that the Launcher pulls the same bullshit that BodyShop used to in ye olde days and tries to load not only the DCCache content, but also everything in the Mods folder whenever you start it.  If you've got much content in your Mods folder, try temporarily renaming it to something else before you start the Launcher to try to install anything.  That's the only way I can get Sims3packs to install anymore.

45  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Things NEVER done on Sims 3? on: 2010 December 13, 23:37:46
Thanks to those who supported me. I was pretty close to deleting my account on these forums and contribute somewhere else.  Undecided

@Ambular; Do you have any more general ideas? I'm not really looking into too many specific things, such as fixing specific textures, etc. I'm looking to work on things more like no delays for the timers in the game, or adding a way to skip screens straight to the Create-a-Sim screen, etc.

If anyone could add more general (not specific)requests, I'll definitely look into those.
If you have any specific requests, if they are productive and efficient to other users, I'll look into those, as well!
Thanks!

If you find the atmosphere here too toxic (and you'd hardly be the first!) modthesims.info is a good alternative.  As for other general ideas...how about enabling save game from build or buy mode, or adding a way to change or kill the background music in the load screens and CAS?
46  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Things NEVER done on Sims 3? on: 2010 December 13, 07:08:31
Okay, a word to previous posters in this thread:  MATY has never been exclusively devoted to Pescado's work.  He's the boss and the main man, but other modders have had their own sections in the past and Pudding Factory is still up and running (as is Peasantry, for that matter.)  There's no reason to run somebody off just because they're not Pescado and want to contribute to the Pudding, and no reason to assume that someone who's not already intimately familiar with the game has nothing worthwhile to offer.  We've seen valuable tools come from drive-by non-Simmers before.

Hello!
I'm pretty new to this game and forum and I was wondering what things would the Sims 3 community be interested in having?
I'm a coder and I want to contribute my skills and I was just wondering what things you would all LOVE to have/use?
I'm willing to code a few things, so give me some things you guys have never seen done before and want!
Smiley

If you're serious, and not completely alienated by the reception thus far (gotta say, you made an unfortunate choice for the first place to post such a query, but kudos if you stick with your ambitions anyway) then you might consider looking into the game's horrible, lousy, worthless outdoor lighting and seeing if you can tweak it so Sims don't look ghastly when they step out the door.  Or figure out how to create animated foliage without resorting to a program that costs thousands of dollars.  Or come up with a TS3 version of Pescado's old Hackdiff program (Google for explanation, I'm having trouble describing what it did succinctly.)  Or look into what causes certain custom files to break without explanation and hang up the game, and fix it so the game either loads them properly or skips them instead of trying to load them tens of thousands of times.  Or enable tooltips in Create-A-Sim, or make it possible to delete custom content from within the game, or add an option to skip loading a particular game and go straight into Create-A-Sim from the main menu...I'm sure I could think of more if you want it.

It should go without saying anything you make needs to be compatible with AwesomeMod, and preferably also with Twallan's NRAAS series of mods, which are also widely used.

JESSLLA casts Snark! It's super effective! AMBULAR is butthurt!

Actually, I'd be rather pleased if she DID manage to improve on my hair conversions.  I've never been that happy with them (the Jeanette style particularly) and I keep hoping somebody else will give them a try.
48  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: More Awful Than You: December - Painful Patterns on: 2010 December 03, 18:50:37

You could do better than Ambular's shit too. Her TS3 stuff that she's made is textured HORRIBLY. Artifacts everywhere and anyone with even a half way decent video card can see it is utter and complete shit.

Fine, let's see you do better then.
49  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: More Awful Than You: December - Painful Patterns on: 2010 December 03, 08:23:53
As someone who is useless and has been bagged on by Ambular as offering NOTHING to the community as a whole, I would just like to say, I could do better than this shit.

Just for the record, I retracted that statement some time ago, after Pescado pointed out that without your capshuning skillz, he would have no reason to do any more Awesomeland and thus no reason to keep running the site.  And I imagine you probably could do better, if you wanted to.

This thread is wrong on so many levels, it is difficult to know where to begin.

Suffice it to say that there are simmers who create stuff, and there are simmers who create nothing but make life difficult for those who do.

Be fair, now: there are also simmers who create stuff, and then go make things difficult for OTHERS who do.
