51  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Moodlets + Six Bars vs. Eight Bars on: 2009 July 11, 10:54:34
I think this is really more a question of labelling than it is of the actual numbers. Unless your sims are well into the upper bubble, mood-wise, they're still being penalized for it at work, so tey're not THAT happy. The game just makes them seem that way to make the sheeple feel better about how they're doing. Based on the actual in-game effects, "Very happy" really correlates more with "mildly irritated", and all you really need to do is to change the labels and everything is fine.

Oh that completely explains why the silly trollop is crying all the time.  Nice to see I haven't lost my touch but you think EAxis could at least label it properly.
52  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hours of load time. (Specs & Time updated) on: 2009 July 11, 10:43:49
Well, we seem to have covered all the things that usually slow the game down.  Maybe look for another cause?
53  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Apocalypse! How many are left? on: 2009 July 10, 10:08:17
I keep getting told that I'd love Sims 3 if I just understood that I'm not supposed to play the game the same way as I played Sims 2.  I enjoy my play style--rotating families in houses I built for them and decorated for them, in a neighborhood I designed for them.  When I try to explain this--or when I bothered--I get told, "Well I never built houses/played any family but a particular Maxis-made family/played any family past the second generation", etc. etc. with a strong sub-text that I was playing wrong all this time and I should just straighten my thinking out and do it the One True Way.

In Sims 2 if you wanted to play the way I do you could, if you wanted to play any other way, you could.  With Sims 3 you seem to be channeled into one playing style.  Why the hell should I bother with it?

This - if you like playing with one family, Sims 3 is probably going to be fine for you.  If you don't, well, be seeing ya.
54  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hours of load time. (Specs & Time updated) on: 2009 July 10, 10:04:33
Seriously?!  2.7GB of RAM is not enough?  Would another 1GB do it, or do I need even more than that?

I would have thought it should be ok with what you've got.  I ran the game with all EPs to FT on the old computer (XP) with 1GB of RAM, a video card with 128MB of its own memory and a small processor.  It loaded in under 10 minutes with 2GB of downloads and ran the game fine except on big lots with lots of sims present (I fiddled the number of visitors allowed).  If you're getting an hour loading time, I'd say something else is wrong.  Are you on XP oir Vista?  If it is Vista, you may need more RAMz, XP not so much.
55  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Apocalypse! How many are left? on: 2009 July 08, 20:12:26
I have both but have stopped playing both.  S3 put me off.  I'm playing RPGs - with real stories - ATM.
56  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Easy way to Magical gnomes and are they bugged? on: 2009 July 06, 18:44:43
I'd guess the Prima Guide is wrong too - they were all over my game like a rash before I stopped playing.

Renaming your magical gnome demagics it.  Undecided
I think this must be true. One of my One Fambly's four Gnomes is in its original position, never kicked, never moved. I gave it a name and it has never been magical. Sad

I don't think this can be right either - my first gnome had a name (straightaway after my sim caught him - George, I think it was) and he was off round the lot like a rocket.
57  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How can I update a bathtub to Pets? on: 2009 July 04, 09:40:51
Didn't jfade make a tool for that?

Yes, here:

though maybe it doesn't update the bathtubs.
58  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Think of the children! (Bad Parenting in the Sims 3) on: 2009 July 02, 01:02:10
I saw my parents having sex once. Not sure I will ever be able to think of the 'woman on top' position without briefly remembering what my Mum looks like naked.

What, you'd never seen your mother naked before?
59  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Choosing Sex of Babies on: 2009 June 25, 12:03:19
So if every sim and her dog can grow apples but watermelons have to be sought out, what does this do for the gender ratio in a neighbourhood where you make no attempt to control things?  It seems to me, if you play without knowing this information, given the ubiquity of apples (as Jolrei pointed out, though not quite in those words), aren't we going to get a sort of China Syndrome where there are more male babies born than female?  If you ask me, this is offensive to feminists.  OTOH, I got bored with the game and am not playing, so apologies if my information is wrong because of my lack of experience.
60  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Wishes for Book Reading: Which books are which? on: 2009 June 19, 20:34:47
Talking of unfulfillable (sp?) wants, my pregnant sim had a want to eat spaghetti and ice cream.  I found the icecream but never worked out the spaghetti.  The bump is a worm now anyway.  (larva, whatever).
61  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Motive bars outdated and restrictive? on: 2009 June 08, 20:52:57
That said, I guess I never realized that there were so many players out there that SUCK SO BAD at playing the sims. The motives are the easy part and hardly tedious compared to the skill grinding.

I was going to say, it's not exactly that hard to get them in a good mood in the morning with or without the bars.  Make sure they sleep well, pee, wash, feed and off they go.  Not unlike me really.

I use a combination of ignoring the needs bars and cheating.  Maybe I'm just averse to change, but the moodlets seem pretty "meh" to me. I like the wants/fears set up in TS2, it seems truer to life. Plus, it makes it easier to have Sims sink into a deep depression.

This - if we really want to persuade Pescado to do anything it's surely to give us the means to make the little gits more miserable.  I would find it hard to keep a Jack Thompson sim in the new game - in Sims 2 it was/is easy.

Sometimes the manager will get stuck on the lot, wandering aimlessly for days around the lot, never doing anything, never leaving.

Delete with moveobjects?

I always worry, if they're sitting on the portal that doing this runs the risk of deleting the portal too.  Maybe that was more of a Sims 1 problem.  Anyway, I use the zap option on Inge's cat.

Edit: oh sorry, wrong quote - I was referring to the students sitting on the portal doing their homework but it's good for hanging-around managers too.

You aren't suppose to move families between neighborhoods. You've effectively ruined both neighborhoods by doing this. If you like to play with it till toddlers get wants to woohoo the mailman, you can fix their relations with SimPE.

It's really that big of a problem?

Yes.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that something you can do in the game, without cheats, would cause this much damage. Maybe that explains some of the otherwise inexplicable issues that have been popping up lately. Dammit. And I made a new neighborhood from scratch for the very reason my old neighborhood was getting too buggy. Grr.

EDIT: Can I salvage the buildings and the Sims by packaging them and then reinstalling them in a new neighborhood, or would they carry the errors with them?

No and yes - this does exactly the same thing as moving via the lot bin.  The only safe clean method to move sims from one neighbourhood to another is by cloning and recreating the sim with SimPE or, as someone else said, use Clean Installer.  BTW, you should really get to grips with SimPE's sim-editing functions.  It will help you fix problems like lost relationship connections between family members and removing unauthorised 'in love' status.
63  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Spyware removal: Halp? on: 2009 May 28, 21:30:56
I can recommend Malwarebytes too - I got it about a year ago and it removed a really naasty trojan for me that nothing else would touch.
64  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: No censor hack for TS3 on: 2009 May 25, 14:51:00
Well I would like a breast adjuster.

Sigh - yeah me too.  Oh wait, you mean for the game don't you?
65  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Good, the Bad, and the Randomly @Toaded on: 2009 May 25, 11:58:19
Bad
  - I really hate the neighborhood screen and the way that you have to go to certain places to be able to do things there.  For instance, you can get a part time job at the cemetary, but on the neighborhood screen, if you filter by jobs, the cemetary doesn't have an icon.  WTF?  Also, I need a cheatsheet of what you can do at each location.  I can't remember where to go for a cooking class, so I spend 15 minutes clicking every little frickin icon...grr.  Same thing with trying to figure out where your sims live.  They need a text/list based way to do what you can do from the neighborhood screen.

Isn't the home lot icon in green?  That was the one place I had least trouble with.  Also, you can send the sim home by pressing that little arrow next to their icon.  Didn't know about the cemetary - thanks.  Now I can make a creepy gravedigger sim.

"First Sims 3 Expansion News?
The Game isn't out, yet we have our first possible hint at the first Sims 3 Expansion. SimBr. attended the Sims 3 Brazilian event, and spoke with an EA rep who told them that the first expansion will likely focus on Jobs and Occupations.

We have just received from our representatives in The Sims 3 Tour event in Sao Paulo information about the first expansion of The Sims 3. Representatives Weslley, Eduardo and Victor spoke to the manager of marketing for EA Games, Ian Freitas, and revealed that the first expansion of The Sims 3 exists, and that probably has something do with occupations and work. Great news! Keep an eye on OSimBR.net for more news in real time about events in Brazil!"

I don't know what they meant by 'will likely focus on ...' - they must be working on it now and so should know for sure.

- This "enforced legacy play" kerfluffle is getting blown waaaaayyy out of proportion, IMO.  Wishes aren't wants.  Promising isn't locking. TS3 isn't TS2.  Don't promise something you don't have time to finish.  Granted I don't see much point to not saving them but that's a far cry from "amg they're forcing me to play legacy style".

I think you've misunderstood the nature of the objection.  It's not the forced locking and/or fulfilling of wants that's the problem, it's the not being able to play multiple families easily and the danger of unplayed families either gaining unwanted spawn, dying and/or being deleted from the neighbourhood.
67  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: AMD Phenom quad core, vista, and sims 2 on: 2009 May 22, 00:01:19
.Net Framework comes with Vista.  I don't think you need the earlier version of Direct X - well, I never installed it and the game runs just fine.  I have everything though.
68  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Technical problems with THE HORROR: downloading, installing, and running it on: 2009 May 21, 14:45:57
Yeah, there is only SP 1, which I obviously have. Maybe I'm doing it wrong? I've noticed the instructions I've found are for XP and not Vista. Could that be my problem? I click mount the image through daemon, then I click the ISO, open folder to view files, and then I double click Sims3Setup (application). I tried to download the one you have but it's the same one so it just started seeding it. I've obviously got the right one but I have to be doing something wrong or my computer is just being a bitch.

Nah - you do it exactly the same way with Vista: mount the image, click the exe - exactly the same.
69  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: THE HORROR: The REAL TS3 Scoop As It Unfolds on: 2009 May 21, 09:06:42
I haven't seen anybody report this yet:

> Also, I deleted all the premade families, and after playing 30
> minutes, they're all moving back in... DESPITE BEING DELETED! The
> Goths, Landgraabs, Alto family, all of them!

That's from someone on the newsnet sims group who is trying out the game.

70  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Good, the Bad, and the Randomly @Toaded on: 2009 May 21, 01:33:53
With that "we're locking this down so you can't mod it, nyah nyah" attitude it sounds like they really wanted to turn this into a game instead of a toy.  The thing is, the section of the market that they are now going after aren't likely to play the Sims no matter what EA do to it.  Just look at the reviews in the game magazines - they'll usually feature a comment like "I don't play it myself, but my mother / sister / gf does".

Absolutely, the last one I read trotted out the 'it's not a real game anyway' line and would only be interesting to anal, compulsive gamer 'completists' (whatever that might be).
71  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: THE HORROR: The REAL TS3 Scoop As It Unfolds on: 2009 May 20, 02:19:40
News is released about the first Sims 3 paysite (Sorry, Sims Store)

http://simmersnews.blogspot.com/2009/05/sims-3-store-set-prices.html

Some comments on there hint that perhaps the reason there is little content in the game people are seeing is because EAxis cut it back to enable them to sell it via the Store.  People are pissed.  Not exactly a surprise to cynics here but perhaps an indication that the copy of the game we're seeing is the final copy.

Feel free to P&L/ignore this, but how reliable are the time estimates given by torrent programs? I'm using utorrent, and seeing a lot of fluctuation in the estimated time - anywhere from 11 hours up to 22 hours. I started about five hours ago and have about a gig and three quarters... so should I just estimate based on that?

Impatient cat is getting a little twitchy with her seemingly shitty internet connection.

Think yourself lucky - mine currently says 23w.
73  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: the fighting skill, can be changed ??? on: 2009 April 21, 22:14:22
Toddlers can only "Cuddle" the pets, which (at least with cats) looks more like "Squeeze Half to Death," but it still gives ++ relationship.  (Maybe there should be a mod that changes that...)  Supposedly, in AL there is a Torment interaction that children have with their toddler siblings, but I have yet to figure out how to make it appear.

I've seen them do it spontaneously.  Evil little sods.
