51  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Adult-Teen blind dates. on: 2008 October 21, 14:04:35
You probably have TJ's teen-adult attraction mod? It's a standalone mod that can be used by itself (and doesn't, by itself, enable any romantic interactions) but iirc it was made to be used with mods (like ACR?) that rely on chemstry for some things, and I'm pretty sure one of the side effects is that teens and adults will now show up in each other's dating pool. I actually use it just because I want to know who is attracted to who cross-age (especially between teens and young adults), even though I usually don't have any mods in for romantic interactions.

This top is a default replacement. HystericalParoxysm's replacement mesh: not as advertised.

At least HP is likely to actually do something about it if it's pointed out to her politely where she can see it -- unlike, say, Peggy.
53  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: 50/50 Method Phails (and phails, and phails...) on: 2008 September 18, 01:48:21
I may give that a shot if I continue to have trouble; I've been focusing on other things (deleting stuff I can delete without having to have had everything in and sorted it all) and run into a few other blips that make my suspect that my downloads folder might just be, um, too big. (It is FRIGGING HUGE.)
54  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: A few of Argon's private hacks [Updated 8-4-2008] on: 2008 September 13, 11:57:14
Otherwise I think it might be the test package I made to demonstrate how to add new archetypes, if that's the case it's a set made from my self sim and it isn't needed unless you want random Argon-looking townies (unless you replace the meshes with something else of course).  Tongue That was more of an "oh look this is cool!" hack because someone asked how to do it and no one else had done it before.

And not many people have done it since!

Have you actually seen others somewhere? I've only seen the original.
55  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: 50/50 Method Phails (and phails, and phails...) on: 2008 September 06, 12:14:57
Sounds good to me. I'm currently busy with going through stuff and deleting, and I sure hope it works. -.-
56  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TS2 Store Stuff on: 2008 September 04, 20:01:32
Thanks for the reply Havelock, really appreciate it.  Didn't know that the new items exclusive only to the online store would require certain expansions in order to show up.

It's not really quite like that.  If you install anything from the Store, it makes what is essentially a Store Stuff pack on your computer, which updates your game code to the Pets engine.  If you bypass the Store installation and the resulting issues, then you don't get the game code upgrade and can't use most of the objects in a pre-Pets game.  On my other computer I only have expansions through OFB, and I can only use the Store objects found in Body Shop, surfaces, and decorative.  i could probably use the other things if I installed the free objects from the Store, but I'm not going to infest my computer with the other stuff it comes with.

Which of course also means that picking up one of certain stuff packs on the cheap or by torrent would probably have the same result, but someone else will probably have to identify which pack(s) would do the trick.
57  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / 50/50 Method Phails (and phails, and phails...) on: 2008 September 04, 15:10:09
I recently went on a downloading spree, and now my game is crashing when I go into Windows and Doors. Okay, so, first things first, make sure the problem is in the Objects directory -- take out everything BUT Objects, load game, CRASH! Put in everything but Objects, load game, no crash. Step two, remove everything but Objects for load time, put half of Objects folder into game. Load. No crash. Take that half out, put the other half in. No crash. WTF, says I. Okay, must be a conflict between two objects? But neither Clean Installer nor DDO found any duplicates related to walls, and removing the duplicates they did find didn't help (in fact I ran a Clean Installer check for duplicates before I even got started, but DDO found some additional ones).

So I started a more complex tactic, adding subfolders of Objects in two and three at a time until I got a crash. When I finally got the crash, then I tried loading the game with just the batch of directories I had just added in when I got the crash. No crash. Then, those directories + the two that are heaviest on windows and doors. No crash. Then, the new batch plus everything else I'd already had in there EXCEPT the two with the most windows and doors. STILL NO CRASH.

So, basically, I cannot isolate the cause of this crash to any specific place. I'm about to load up the game with all the stuff that I had NOT previously tested during the process described in the second paragraph in, and all the stuff I had tested already out, to see if it's maybe volume-related? (I do have way too many windows and doors. -.-) Any suggestions?

ETA: Put the other half of the stuff in, no crash.

ETA2: Yanked the largest (in KB size) directory of the batch that was reproducing the crash. Loaded the game. No crash. Put the directory back in, removed approximately 50% of content. Loaded the game. No crash. Took that half out, put the other half in. Loaded the game. No crash.

WTF.

ETA3: Oh, and yes, it is SPECIFICALLY Build Mode -> Windows and Doors that causes the issue, and it's just going into that category at all (which suggests it's actually... I think it's single-story doors that comes up at first?) that causes the crash.

When I had an actual problem item in decorative the game wouldn't crash until it tried to load the thumbnail for that specific item, and I was able to locate it because it happened to be an item that was actually /in/ my decorative folder, so a combination of seeing what price range I was at in the deco catalogue before the crash and using Sims 2 categorizor to spot subfolders with items that hadn't had thumbnails generated yet helped me find it without too much hassle.

Am currently going through and deleting unwanted items from a portion of total downloads, since the only theory I can come up with is that it's just, well, too much crap. Tongue
58  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Fixed Object Shadows *Work In Progress* Update 2 on: 2008 September 02, 19:32:02
If you could send me the file, it would be an easy fix.  Smiley

Thank you! I will see if I can find it. (Actually, now that I have thought on it, I can't remember which of two objects was the problem, so shall have to turn the shadows back on and check, and I'm fairly sure that I have other badly b0rked shadows as well -- the wall deco from the Sims Connection Chinese restaurant set comes to mind too -- but I certainly don't expect you to fix a zillion pieces of CC in addition to the shoddy work already in the game.)
59  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: The One Shiny: Autonomy Control on: 2008 August 28, 18:34:01
Ahhh, that makes sense... it's a "leave that thing alone!" mod.

...will it work with custom objects that have new functions too? And how broad is the prohibition? Can you use it to say "nobody can use Easel A except Sim A, and nobody can use Easel B except Sim B" or... well, really I should just get it in the game and play with it, shouldn't I? (But I LIKE reading the friendly manual.)
60  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Fixed Object Shadows *Work In Progress* Update 2 on: 2008 August 27, 20:45:13
I've bookmarked this, because I do appreciate the fixes, but I actually am likely to stick with playing with shadows off, as I have ever since I downloaded some gorgeous 'metal branch with leaves' type wall hanging that still had a full rectangular shadow left behind from the painting it was cloned from. (PHAIL. ...but it's pretty.) If I ever decide to ditch the thing and play with shadows on, I'll be installing this.
61  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: The One Shiny: Autonomy Control on: 2008 August 27, 20:25:49
So, basically, this replaces 'no autonomous [whatever]' mods with in-game controls? (Something like the new Ingelogical system only with fewer files?) And the in-game controls will let you say 'NO KICKYBAG FOR YOU!' to the Sim you're controlling, or everyone, or everyone EXCEPT the Sim you're controlling, and so on? (Am I understanding this right?)
62  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TS2 Store Stuff on: 2008 August 19, 03:13:29
Making some use of that worthless Store Edition folder in program files...
http://www.mediafire.com/?dblyl9xgc19

Extract to C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Store Edition

Will it work in Downloads? I can't be arsed to remember that I have things in a location outside of My Documents when I'm backing up TS2 stuff, so I very much prefer not to PUT anything outside of My Documents.
63  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: [Work in progress] Polygamy or marriage of convenience on: 2008 July 10, 23:36:11
Perhaps Marhis didn't realize it. One of the EP changed the wedding arch so that you would change into formal wear instead of the default dresses. I don't think there were any changes to it after that. Was it Pets?

That was OFB, actually.
64  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TS2 Store Stuff on: 2008 July 09, 01:04:19
I guess I'd better keep watching this thread, since I've got a pile of stuff but I'm a little confused on whether I have the best possible version of everything. But it seems this is all definitely still a work in progress.

Also:

I was away for a couple of days, so I missed out on the clothes when they were first linked on the first page. Now one of the links is overloaded (not available until the 31st because of how many downloads it got) and the other link is dead. Is there an alternative link?

EAxis_Store_Clothing.rar (via Mediafire) Cheesy

This contains a lot of individual files AND a 5MB+ SC_Hair_Outfits.package AND a 5MB+ SCSkins.package. Since the individual packages are clearly all recolors, I assume that at least one of those large packages contains all the meshes, but some more info on what's what would be peachy.

66  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What's on YOUR Wish List? on: 2008 June 17, 12:39:05
Sims2Wiki reports that Squinge had a 'vampires bite anyone' mod and it's at the Graveyard, obviously no idea whether it needs updating. Christianlov has one that makes Sims always accept a bite but don't know if it affects who can be bitten as I've not felt like messing with it.

Try reading this thread to see how Marhis did it for her neighborhood-wide sex change:

68  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What's on YOUR Wish List? on: 2008 June 12, 21:10:18
Papercut: I'd be all in favor of that too. (And really, I'd live with the existing BFF functioning if only it were called something less, well, 12ish. BFFs ARE for 12s. Tongue (I am too old to have heard the term until I was long past too old to ever use it or have used it.) It's just that it's ALSO stupidly easy.)

geekgirl: Agreed. I know that personality does affect attraction, but that still doesn't make it possible for one to deliberately make a Sim attracted to high playfulness, for example -- except by deliberately either making them also very high playful (to trigger the 'similar personality' attractor) or picking a sign for that Sim that has strong attraction to a sign that's always high-playful, or other bass-ackwards methods.

Also, another (unrelated) thing it occurs to me I really want: a fix for the goddamn missing clothing tooltips in CAS.
69  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What's on YOUR Wish List? on: 2008 June 10, 21:07:12
It's already in the game and I tend to prefer modifying aspects of the game I don't like until they make more sense over nuking them outright, the existing best friend status is absurdly easy to achieve and BFF at least takes longer to get to, the concept of more tiers of friendship appeals to me (although it would be more appealing if it were made to have more significance, which is yet another set of changes), and I like the concept of the "inside joke" interaction too.

Actually, what would probably make more sense would be to also limit the number, either to 1 (a la marriage) or a very small number (i.e. 3) -- maybe even 3 for popularity Sims and 1 for everyone else -- which would tend to suggest also making it a status one has some control over (like marriage). But the more changes the less likely that anyone other than 'me after I spend months learning to mod' would ever give it a second thought. Tongue
70  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What's on YOUR Wish List? on: 2008 June 10, 15:25:42
A mod to make the BFF concept less stupid without eliminating it or consigning it to children/teens. Call it something else (possibly also involving a rename of 'Best Friends' in the deal -- turn BFF into Best Friend and Best Friend into Close Friend? I dunno -- or leave Best Friend as is and turn BFF into Lifetime Friend or something?), up the requirements to reach it (2 Sim days? Whut?), and it'd actually be reasonable.

(Possibly make it in two parts -- one along the lines of TJ's Same Sex Marriage mod or those mods that turn all references to Woohoo into sex instead that just changes the name of the damn thing, and one that ups the requirements.)
71  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Bodyshop Items Won't Show Up on: 2008 June 07, 12:42:36
You're claiming that custom content that isn't Body Shop content is showing up, but you haven't mentioned any of it specifically. Downloaded houses ALWAYS show up -- what about downloaded furniture? Do you have any, and is it showing up?
72  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Can't Delete Some CC Types in CAS on: 2008 June 07, 00:35:53
Oh, I have plenty of ways to delete things without resorting to Clean Installer. And I didn't have any problems deleting those kinds of CC after Seasons -- a few weeks ago I added BV and FT in one go, plus all the stuff packs I didn't already have (Holiday, Celebrations, Teen Style, and Kitchen and Bath, iirc), and that's when it started. And yes, it's primarily all the stuff on the 4th section of CAS, although it also affects eye colors. Intentional and BV-related is possible, although since I was still following the community in general pretty closely as BV was coming out and people were adjusting, I'm surprised I didn't hear about it then if so.
73  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Can't Delete Some CC Types in CAS on: 2008 June 06, 00:31:47
I seem to spend more time downloading, deleting, and organizing than actually playing the game. -.- Anyway, I'm culling custom stuff again and CAS is being weird. Specifically, I can delete hair and clothing with no problems in it, but the trash button does not appear for eyes, makeup, possibly some other types of content. This is across the board for each content type -- I have not found any custom hair that was undeletable, for example, but don't have any eyes that will permit me to delete them either. Is this some sort of weird new EP/SP issue (as the sig says, I have everything released so far) or is it just me? Anyone seen the issue before to know what it is? None of the searches I tried (on the top level of the site) yielded any threads except one that didn't have anything related, and I'm tired of using Body Shop to delete the stuff instead.
74  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Freetime Patch is out on: 2008 May 29, 18:59:28
Which reminds me, I have to check which no-cd crack I'm running.  I patched FT, but I'm not convinced I updated the no-cd.  Hmmm.  Seems to run fine so far, but best not to risk the unholy hybrid, I suppose.

I also patched with the first patch (got it off here, it had been pulled before I even installed FT) and had been unable to find another no-CD to update to in the first place. Seems to be fine, but I'll wait some on the second patch.
75  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hair Mesh Fixes? on: 2008 May 27, 14:30:42
You might poke around on Sims Cave? I seem to recall nabbing a fixed mesh along with some recolors there (for a different Peggy style).
