Your game must be fun. I know I love lot lag!
52  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Routing !!! on: 2006 December 28, 21:25:49
In Sims 3, I want them to understand reward and punishment and learn from it.  I want them on their knees begging for mercy when I teach them they went the wrong way or into someone else's bed - and I want them to be grateful when I put the pool ladder back, not just go and do it again.

Did you ever play any of the Creatures games? That was pretty much the entire basis of them. If your Norn (Or Grendel, or Ettin, or BONEY GRENDEL [which was by far the best species]) was good you scritched its head and if it was bad you could slap it. You could also type commands into a line and then if your Norn did what you wanted it to do, you rewarded it. If you didn't like your Norn, you could shoot it up with arsenic and it would die. Or you could let a Grendel kill it. Some Norns were really effing stupid, but eventually you breed all the stupid genes out and have smart Norns. Creatures 2 was pretty much my favorite computer game ever. (Of course, there weren't routing issues in Creatures because it was 2-d, hah!)

I just recently had to reformat my computer and so decided to start fresh with the sims since it had been taking 20+ minutes to load and I hadn't been playing. I just put my favorite CC back in -- the Awesome hacks, Targa's elevators, objects/walls/floors/skins from Holy Simoly, objects/skins from Mermaid Cove, default replacements/makeup/walls/floors from Lyran's, clothes by Fanseelamb, the child/toddler converted hairs by Melodie9, and a few other odds&ends. The game loads in a snap now and I don't even miss the old stuff.

Ramalama Bang Bang, actually.  Tongue

Awesome song. You'll post a link to the finished product, yes?
55  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: House Layout? on: 2006 May 15, 09:55:05
Another thing I do differently from Eaglezero houses is that instead of jamming skilling crap on a different floor, I try to locate all things that a sim would tend to use while awake on one floor if feasible, so that I can see the entire mess.

I may have forgotten to mention that specifically, but yeah. Generally, the only reason I have ANY skilling crap on the second floor is so that sims who wake up at odd times or have weird job hours can be kept upstairs so I don't have to move back and forth.

I also try to get my houses small enough so that I can see everything from a mid-level (a la Sims1) zoom with no scrolling so that I don't have to waste time zooming out and back in or scrolling around to see things. Large lots are really inefficient in that respect. Usually the largest lots I play (other than some maxis pre-mades) are 4x3, not because my computer can't handle the large lots but rather because I'm tempted to build large houses on the large lots but then I get very angry and upset when actually playing. Well, not very angry and upset, but certainly minorly irritated.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that I think practicing skills in a mirror will wake sleeping sims up, so I keep them out of the bedroom. Blah, I'm too sleepy to wait for the game to start up and go check this, but can anyone confirm?
56  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Eaglezero's codified layout guide. on: 2006 May 14, 09:03:42
Hmm. I have some slight additions to the EagleZeroian house building code

Added.

So I wrote a reply but it got ridiculously long. So instead of forcing everyone to scroll through a really long post, I have put it on a separate page.

See:
Eaglezero's Codified Guide to Sims2 House Layouts (With Examples)

(Also, I have too much time on my hands.)

We did not recieve our baby.

No ideas, but I love that sentence. Mail-order babies, anyone?
59  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Possibilities of an Evil aspiration? on: 2006 May 08, 06:51:40
I would SO love an Evil aspiration. I think they should want to fall in love and get married but then want to cheat a lot. And pick fights. It'd be cool.
60  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: An unawesome question about lot moving on: 2006 May 06, 23:59:43
I generally just build 1 story house.  Efficient 2+ stories could be made, but generally stairs are a main source of efficency loss because sims are morons.  Stuff that's used often should be on the main level.

I use these elevator things by Targa and they're awesome. The sim goes almost instantaneously from one floor to another, which I find more realistic time-wise as I'm one of those people who runs up and down stairs at high speeds. Plus, they take up only one tile on each floor. I didn't build two-story houses often before I used the elevator things, but now I don't mind even 3+ stories.
61  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Need some advice or Help....Please on: 2006 May 06, 23:53:16
It could be that you have a corrupt install, so if you haven't already tried reinstalling, you could do that.

Also, I seem to recall that there have been some problems with more recent drivers for Nvidia cards. I'm using that same graphics card and my driver version is 6.6.9.3 and it works fine. So if you think that may be the problem you could try downloading those drivers instead.

Errr, yeah, I'm not that great at solving these types of problems but thought I should reply since no one else had. My advice is to just mess around with things until the game works. I mean, hey, if you can't play it as-is, it's not like you're going to do any damage. Hope you manage to get it working again.

How much memory does your computer have, and what type of video card? My game used to freeze all the time when I was stupidly trying to run it on 256 mb RAM. That could be your problem, or it could be something else like the installs being bad or something. *shrug* Without more information it's impossible to know.
63  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Neighborhood History on: 2006 May 05, 08:55:01
Romeo has memories of Claudio dying, Olivia dying, getting 2 best friends & Hero dying while all other Monty's have memories with no gaps between deaths of the three (so perhaps they died within a short space of time?)

Conclusion??? - deaths of Claudio, Olivia & Hero may be connected?

Clearly they all attended a pool party where the ladder was removed. In the chaos of the mass drownings, Romeo cemented some friendships. Death parties = great way to come together in friendship!

Bianca's the one I played most - she got married to Oberon(!) had 3 kids, broke up and got together with Kent.  She's well on her way to 10 kids, so I hope her LTW doesn't turn out to be captain hero.

I can't believe your Bianca married Oberon! Whatever happened to Titania then?

Bianca was the VERY FIRST sim I played and she died of hunger on like, the first day. I learned the painful way that the hunger bar in Sims2 moves down faster than the one in Sims1 did. I resurrected her after I got university and she and Kent Capp now have three children: Chimera, Corinth, and Camden (I really like alliterative names). Her LTW was the easy-to-manage golden anniversary one so she's happy.
67  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Neighborhood History on: 2006 May 03, 04:06:38
Miranda Capp (I think she's an interesting looking Sim) to college.

By "interesting" do you mean horrible and terrifying?

In my game Miranda has married Mercutio Monty. Freaktastic children are on the way.

My Romeo and Juliet have negative chemistry (as expected), but they're in love anyway.  I made Juliet check Romeo out while they were still just best friends, and she gagged.  Not 30 seconds later, she gave him a kiss, and they fell in love  Roll Eyes

I originally wanted to have Romeo and Juliet fall in love and then, you know, run with scissors together or something, but I didn't have the heart in the end.  Undecided

Expansion Request List
-Restructured Wants system.
-Getting rid of Attenuation.

WORD. If they did the first two things, the game would be SO much more fun.
69  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Neighborhood History on: 2006 May 02, 18:22:30
Incidentally - did your romeo and juliet end up together?  When I added OFB, Romeo only has 1 bolt for Juliet, so it doesn't look good.  Mind you she's already pregnant, so he's gonna be a dad anyway.

In my neighborhood, Juliet ended up with a CAS sim and Romeo is with Bottom Summerdream because she's a Romance sim like him. I had originally wanted Romeo and Juliet to end up together, but while I was constructing my Veronaville Marriage Chart I found it wouldn't work out well that way if I wanted to have subsequent generations that weren't all related to each other.

As to weather, I tend to think that it would just be really annoying and slow the game down. Currently the only time my game really slows down is on med/large lots when the day/night change occurs -- I dread to think what it would be like if it started raining.

What I'd really like in terms of gameplay expansion is some sort of antisocial delinquency aspiration where the sim always wants to pick fights or quit his job or cheat on his spouse, or whatever. It would really spice gameplay up to have a few of those floating around. Also, although I hated[ vacations in TS1 I think they could be much better in TS2 if done right (like if you can only stay as long as you have vacation days or days off of work, or if it's a weekend for the kids, or whatever).

One of my favorite Unleashed families to play was the old lady and her 4 cats.

Ahahha, that was my favorite Unleashed family! Crazy old catlady family! I really liked her house too, I don't know what it was about it but it was one of my faves.

I would love to see just more stuff in general added to the packs; nicer clothes, hairstyles, furniture, decor objects, etc.

HECK YES. Top on my list of things I'd like in an expansion pack are a Medieval castle theme, a Roman theme, and more Maxis hairstyles (which I feel almost always look better than custom hairs, even if some of them are so fugly it hurts). Those would be cool. But they'd have to have a lot of stuff, very much unlike this so-called "nautical theme" from FFS.
71  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Survey at Official Site on: 2006 May 01, 00:37:38
The fact that I could not take the survey if I admitted to owning any sims 1 products left a very bitter taste in my mouth, though.

I think they think if you own Sims1 stuff you're already hooked and will buy anything, even though that is SO not the case with me because I haven't bought either of the stuff packs OR OFB because they didn't appeal. And then after that, when I found out all the wacky things that were going on with them (especially with regards to copy protection and such) it made me want to buy new Sims things even LESS.

But I would really like something where my sims could grow crops. That would be cool. I'd buy that expansion. And if pets were done right I suspect I'd really like them, but I have no faith in EA/Maxis anymore.
72  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Something I Noticed on: 2006 May 01, 00:33:15
I like the fact though they bring objects to your house if you have a dream date, that at least is useful or you can sell it if you don't need it and have a benefit from it. Smiley

It annoys me when they bring objects to the house. Half the time my sims live on the absolute smallest lots and have no space for a large fountain or whatever, and the gift-giving sim just wanders around the lot FOREVER looking for four tiles to place the telescope, or whatever.

I'd noticed the other day that I've been logged in almost 5 days since registering in November and I was a bit concerned that I was spending too much time on MATY. hah. Judging by most people's responses, I don't spend ENOUGH time!  Grin

Thanks for these, they're nice colors that my sims like to wear. Errr. Or maybe that I'm overly fond of putting them in, but YEAH.

Take your Sims on a trip back in time! Drop them in a fantasy neighborhood where they can live like royalty or enjoy the simple things in life. Build a masterful castle and enjoy enormous feasts with your Sims' new friends or work on a small farm and grow crops for the townspeople.

Your Sims are castaways on a tropical island. Build a new home in the rainforest and work with other Sims to forage, farm, and fish. Design new furnishings for your Sims as you create their new life in paradise.

Those two sound the best, I think. Hurrah for castles and castaways?
