26  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Servo is WAY overpowered.......*Spoiler* on: 2006 March 02, 23:21:32
My first Servo was psycho -- it hasn't "Run Amok" or anything, it just seems a bit buggy...

Its power drops all the way down occasionally, causing its other motives to bottom out as well. For example, it had full energy so I sent it to repair a broken shower. I left it alone for about a sim hour, then next thing I know its thumbnail is orange and it's going out to recharge. It was nighttime, though, so it had to wait until morning to get its power refilled.

The next sim day, the same thing happened -- only active for several hours then power depletes -- but this time Servo broke. I kept on expecting him to Run Amok or something, but it stood outside for like two sim days without replenishing any power. Then it finally recharged and carried on like normal.

I think it may just be because I had my game on for way too long. I hope the rest of my Servos don't turn out this defective, because as long as it takes to make a Servo even with full mechanical skills and a gold badge, it better be "way overpowered!"
27  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Why can't some of my townie teens go to college? on: 2006 February 26, 17:07:43

I've grown up downtownie kids in SimPE and sent them to college through the Students' Bin.  They arrive at a lot, still looking like kids, but they grow up fine!  And those downtownie kids have more skills than they deserve too!

*Slaps head* Now why haven't i thought about using good old SimPE? What do I do, check the "On Campus (Is Young Adult)" box and add them to some existing Uni household, or is it a bit more complicated?

I wanted to send the papergirl to college yesterday and neither she nor any of the other working teen NPCs (shop assistants) showed up in the list - the downtownie teens did though. I only use Awesome hacks, so I am currently at a loss.

Hm, so it's not just me, then? My paper delivery personnel are showing up, though. Have you installed NL patch #2 (assuming you have nightlife)? Because I really want to blame the patch. I enjoy blaming other people/things for my problems  Grin

Have you tried deleting your groups.cache file from the game folder?

This is a stupid question, but is the groups.cache? I know where it is, but I don't know what it does.

Thanks for being patient with all of my questions.

Nope, I don't use inteen or any other unawesome mods. I don't use very many mods at all. But I'll try Sleepycat's idea. I'm usually so cautious in my playing/downloading, so I'm clueless as to why something so backasswards would happen.
Thanks, everybody!

AFAIK they most certainly are. I checked in SimPE and their age is listed as teen and everything.
The only difference between the townie teens who are not appearing in the Send Sims to College thingie is that my playable sims have interacted with them. As if my playable sim meeting a teen townie makes that townie ineligible for college.

I'll check if it's happening in other neighborhoods. I don't really play any other neighborhoods though, so it will be hard for me to remember which teens know which in the others.

I was all set to send a batch of teens to Uni -- a few of my playable sims along with some of their townie friends. In the Send Sims to College box, all my playable teen sims appear, but none of their townie friends. Other townies and NPCs appear just fine, but I noticed that the non-playable teens that DO appear happen to be the ones that none of my playable sims know. Ooookay...

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Or have a suggestion for a solution? This is a custom neighborhood with 222 character files... Freshly patched (NL patch #2).

You know, I never really thought about the etymology of the word "decimation."
*Cue PSA jingle* The More You Know!

sandilou - I agree about the scissors. It seems like it takes such a long time for them to "slice" themselves with the scissors. I ought to start using the reindeer for speedier deaths.

I really miss the indoor fireworks+rug=boom feature from the original Sims. And the way the children used to scream when you starved them to death.

Geez, I'm a mean sim-goddess.

I prefer to have poor sims suffer in abject misery and poverty instead. It amuses me and is more challenging.

I agree.

If she's Unlinked but still has her character data, the Tombstone Unlinkage mod would work to regenerate her tombstone, then you would simply need to make her Linked again in SimPE to have her resurrected.  To do that, bring her character file up in the Sim Browser or Sim Description, click on Other, then change the 1 at the end of Unlinked (penultimate line in Misc panel) to 0 so it reads 0x0000 instead of 0x0001 (remembering to Commit and Save).

According to SimPE she is unlinked and has no character data. I think she's officially been "shredded" (before I was able to install nounlinkondelete, naturally). So even if I changed her linkage, I wouldn't be able to resurrect her without problems, right?

I'm curious to what is missing in the shredded file? Is it just genetics--because you can create them--or is it much more serious and can't be fixed?

That's something I'd like to know, too.

Thanks for the link, Misty. *Sigh* I guess I can find a new plot for my neighborhood. I wasn't attached to the dead sim, I just was curious how the baby was going to turn out. The whole mess is my own fault, anyway.

I already know how to clone sims with SimPE. I do it often to see how my toddlers will turn out as adults, because I'm impatient. The sim in question was a townie anyway, so she wouldn't be hard to duplicate.
I know nothing about editing memories with SimPE, but I would like to and I would greatly appreciate it if someone could point me to a tutorial...

I had a sim who died while pregnant. Due to several dumb moves on my part, eg placing her urn in a sim's inventory only to have her tombstone spawn intself on the lot where she died and later on another lot, the tombstone has vanished altogether ... Therefore, she's unlinked and no one can resurrect her.

She was a key character in a story I was telling and for that reason alone I shouldn't have tried to move her grave in the first place. I had big plans to bring her back to life so she could cause all sorts of chaos in the neighborhood before I killed her for good.

So my questions are these --
Is there any way to bring her back with SimPE?
Alternatively, could I make a clone of her and manipulate everyone's memories (via SimPE) to believe the clone is really her?
If so, how would I go about that? Which way would be easier?
Or am I just going to screw up my game if I press the issue?

%&$^* buggy inventory...
