76  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Who's getting the x-mas pack? on: 2005 November 19, 22:40:55
For the Holiday Roast, you need 7 cooking points, and the Cornucopia on the lot.  And an oven too.
...
You need the tree for Santa to come.

How were we supposed to figure all this out? Osmosis?

I kind of figured the cookie part out since that's what triggered him inTS1, and I guess I can see the tree, but what does the cornucopia have to do with anything? It's purely decorative and the sim's never touch it, they certain don't eat out of it, so why it is needed to be placed on the lot before they can make a holiday feast and how we were supposed to know this?

I have no idea, lol. I couldn't find any holiday meal at first, then saw some one mention a Holiday Roast on the BBS.  After some trial and error, I figured out that you needed the Cornucopia to get the option for the roast.  Luckily my sim had 10 cooking points.  Boolprop made it easy to discover how many points were needed.
77  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Who's getting the x-mas pack? on: 2005 November 19, 21:17:03
Click on the stove/fridge and click Serve Desert > Santa Cookies.
Unfortunately, I don't have that option.  All I get when I click on "Serve Dessert" is gelatin.  Maybe it's because I have custom foods, I'll try taking them out.  If that is the case, I won't be using the Xmas pack because I'm not doing without my custom foods on a permanent basis.  What exactly triggers Santa to come?  I don't want trees and stuff out for days on end if it's purely random.

You need 1 cooking point.  And an oven, of course.  Several people on the BBS forgot they had the Uni Stove top which doesn't have an oven.  I don't know if the toaster oven works.

For the Holiday Roast, you need 7 cooking points, and the Cornucopia on the lot.  And an oven too.

The santa clothing and beards, and skin for the Santa-NPC appear to only be installed into the account you are currently in when you intall the Party Pack.  On my other 2 accounts, when Santa shows up he has a grey suit and no face.  A bald scalp, but otherwise his head is invisible.  My sim couldn't change appearance to the Santa hat or beard either.  I haven't checked CAS to see if the Old Father Time outfit for elders or the Santa suit is there, but I don't expect it too.  It looks like my Legacy families will be having a Very Odd Christmas since they are not on my main account.  You cannot reinstall the Party Pack in each account.  I'm a little disappointed and have no idea how to fix this.  I'll try to put a pic:

You need the tree for Santa to come.  So far he's come the first night on the lots I've tried it.  But after that it appears to be random.  On one lot I saved with Cassandra about to bake the cookies (she and Don were my test subjects).  In 20 reloads, Santa came 4 times.  That was after he'd already come 2 or 3 times.  If you bake the cookies before 10pm, he shows up at 10pm.  If you bake them after 10pm, he shows up when they come out of the oven.
78  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: changing eyecolor in an established Sim on: 2005 November 07, 01:14:50
from my own experience in messing with my sims' dna, you need to change the line 3 and the line finishing by 59 (being respectively dominant and recessive eye color) in the sim dna, but for the change to show in game (not to stay genetic only) you need to change the eye color line in the age data line you find when opening the sims's file (N001_user181 for example).
I hope what I say makes sense and helps you.
Pioupiou

I've been looking for how to do that.  Thanks.
79  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Abduction in NL changes relationships? on: 2005 November 01, 01:37:35
About the side track of the thread: I'm working on something (very slowly however) that will let you do this, as well as lots of other cool and very shiny things.

[/tease]

Sounds awesome.
80  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Abduction in NL changes relationships? on: 2005 November 01, 00:35:54
As far as I'm aware, the adduction code in NL didn't change at all, it's been the same since the beginning.

Thanks.  Too bad though, that would have been interesting:  male sims getting pregnant, and female sims getting their gender preference changed.

To address the other issue that's cropped up in the thread:
I have no problems with anyone wanting an all-hetero mod in their game.  But if someone actually does write an all-hetero mod, I want the all-homo version.   Smiley
81  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Abduction in NL changes relationships? on: 2005 October 30, 22:15:03
I don't have NL, but I got GB'd by someone about her post.  Apparently her female sim got abducted, and came back disliking her husband, and prefering females.   Huh

Glitch?  New abduction consequences in NL?  I've never checked gender preference before and after abductions in the base game or in Uni before.  Hmmmm, maybe I should.

Anyway, I'm just curious if anybody here has noticed anything.
82  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Things We've Learned From The BBS on: 2005 October 28, 19:43:54
I've learned that if you take the time to post factual helpful answers then you'll end up with tire tread marks across your back from the simmers posting whatever answer fancies them at the time just to get the post out first and get the bene.

The funny part is, answering a question almost never gets a bene, even for the first poster and even if they are promised... and in a few cases, even if the original poster *says* he gave a bene.  This used to be obvious back when the bene count was displayed with every post.  Now, bene counts didn't always update right away, but when three other people have posted *after* someone said they gave benes, the count should have shown.

Hook

I noticed that too.  I counted all my benes and posts once a long time ago, and I was surprised how few of my posts got a bene.  Maybe 18%.  Now not all of my posts were answers, but still, it was apparent that many people just don't give out benes (or use them up right away).  I think Maxis' intentions were noble, but the BBS community didn't buy the vision, and just obsessed over their rank.  Now, 30-50% of the threads feel the need to advertise benes just to get a response.
83  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Things We've Learned From The BBS on: 2005 October 28, 19:32:29
I directed someone to MTS2  and got banned from the BBS for 3 days heaven forbid you direct any one there for a censor mod for nightlife that works.guaranteed to get you banned for at least 3 days and any other site that makes fxes for game issues including MATY.. when I saw the sorry you are banned until 10.12/2005 at 12:00 A.M PST message I ROFL. because I knew it was my daring to direct someone to MTS2 for Quaxi's censor removal blur in nightlife

The BBS was the first forum I'd ever participated in.  The most valuable lesson I've learned is to read the rules and lurk awhile before I post so I can get a feel for what's ok, and what's not.  Pretty much everyone at the BBS knows that giving out information to adult content is forbidden.  Gettting a ban for linking or giving out info on any means to remove the censor blur should have been a no-brainer.  Giving out links to MATY or VS in a non-adult content context is ok.
84  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: CommunityLotEmployee#(name of sim) cheat... on: 2005 October 16, 04:13:19
Thanks Hook.  It's so nice to come here and get a definitive answer.

The original poster took issue when we questioned his 'cheat.'  Ended up with a 3 day ban for flaming.  His posts were also deleted.  Basically he claimed that using the cheat, communitylotemployeeangela, would make angela get an income equal to all the money spent on community lots (all or just a certain one wasn't clarified) by neighborhood sims (but not townies for some reason).  Basically it was presented as a 'secret' way to make money.

Would have made more sense to try to start the hoax after the business EP came out.
85  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: CommunityLotEmployee#(name of sim) cheat... on: 2005 October 15, 16:58:08
It's fake.  That kid must be on crack or something.

Thanks.  I thought so, but couldn't check it out myself.  kellinjar came to the same conclusion.
86  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / CommunityLotEmployee#(name of sim) cheat... on: 2005 October 15, 16:14:54
This isn't real, is it?

It doesn't seem that it would be a real cheat, it's not on snootysims, and google has nothing.  I don't have NL, but it's not on the NL cheat lists floating around.  My computer is down (the one with the game installed) so I can't check it, but I suspect it's fake.

I wonder if it's off some cheat website, or the poster is just making things up.
87  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Patching game with multiple accounts on: 2005 October 14, 03:11:57
Well, I reinstalled everything and applied the patch again with my 2nd Windows user account all set up.  And it wasn't necessary.   Embarrassed

The N00X_UserXXXXX.package files that were updated are in the TSData\Res\UserData\Neighborhoods folder, not the My Documents folder.  I was wrong about that.

My TS2 game freezes up on me quite a bit lately.  I'm not sure why, but a reinstall couldn't hurt.  (I think it's an SLI issue, but I'm not sure yet.)

Since the My Documents files aren't affected by the patch, I don't think having multiple user accounts is an issue.
88  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Patching game with multiple accounts on: 2005 October 13, 15:46:02
It occured to me on the way into work this morning that I probably wouldn't be able to install the patch twice.  Thank you for the confirmation.

I was concerned because the patch seemed to alter/fix files in the My Documents folder, in addition to the C:\Program Files folders.  I could be wrong.  I may back up everything, reinstall the game, recreate the 'challenges' account, restore the 'challenges' TS2 folder, reapply the patch, then restore my main account's TS2 folder.

Thanks for your help.
89  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Patching game with multiple accounts on: 2005 October 13, 14:03:10
I have a somewhat technical question about the patch. Here's the situation:

I have recently rebuilt my computer which included completely reinstalling WinXP and all software (including TS2 and Uni). I don't have Nightlife yet.

On my old computer, I had 2 accounts, one main account, and one called 'Challenges' which I set up just to play hack free TS2 challenges.

I backed up the My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 folders for both accounts before rebuilding the computer.

I haven't recreated the 'Challenges' account on my new computer yet.

I intsalled the Uni patch just now, and the patch seemed to alter all the character files in all of my neigborhoods in my existing The Sims 2 folder.  (I don't know what it was doing to all of those files, but it did seem to do something.)

Here's my question:

When I finally decide to recreate the 'Challenges' account on my computer and replace my backed up TS2 folder, should I rerun the patch while I'm in that account?

Thanks for any help, thoughts, or advice.
90  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Abducted with the cheap telescope? on: 2005 October 03, 17:39:39
Seriously, I have had so many abductions that I totally doubt the percentage likelihood. I always buy the expensive telescope, though. It's just so much cooler.

How, exactly? I've been trying like crazy and so far the only abduction I've had was when I played the Curious family in Strangetown, which is set up for that ... I have my adult males with expensive telescopes spending every night between 11:00 and 3:00 just staring into space. They're practically maxxed out on logic and still I get nothing.

Is it just luck of the draw, or what? Is there a cheat I can use if I get desperate?

Is there something else I should be doing? Eating cookies first? Any help would be appreciated.

Also, disappointingly, both of the guys who had babies in Strangetown (one is already preggers when you start playing) had kids with normal human skintones. I so wanted a green baby, so I played the Smiths ... and they had a brown-skinned baby, even though she's skin tone #1 (white chick) and he's green. What gives? Not that I don't like the little tyke, but I want a green kid! Is the randomness supposed to happen or is that another benefit of my slow chip messing up the game? (Hoping to get upgraded any day now ...)

Here, my guide might be helpful.
91  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Abducted with the cheap telescope? on: 2005 October 03, 16:42:09
Cheap scopes are excluded by GUID, so if you have a custom scope that will always have a danger of abduction (unless it's designed not to be dangerous).

Otherwise, the odds are 5 in 10000 (5/100 of 1% chance per Stargaze - Loop).

Thanks for the clarification.  I guess these abductions on the cheap telescope I keep hearing about are just glitches.  Unless there's a hacked cheap telescope that has the same rate of abductions as the expensive one.  I've never heard of one though, but it's been a long time since I've looked.
92  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Abducted with the cheap telescope? on: 2005 October 03, 04:46:02
That's really strange..I thought it was totally impossible..unless it is of course possible but the rate is just so low that it's basically a freak occurance.  Heck the rate with expensive telescope is low enough to make abductions at all a freak occurance in my game.

I wouldn't waste my time trying to figure out if it was true or not lol

Well, if it's true, I'd like to update my Abduction Guide on the BBS.

I've boolproped an abduction on the cheap telescope once before, and I remember that the animations (especially the hand placement) were clearly meant for the expensive telescope.  So I've assumed that abduction was meant only for the expensive one, or else there would an be appropriate animations for it.
93  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Abducted with the cheap telescope? on: 2005 October 02, 23:42:13
I thought you couldn't, but an awful lot of people have been claiming recently that you can. Anyone know why?  Is it really a much lower chance with the cheap telescope?  Or just some glitch?

I thought someone at variousimmers.net once said that abductions were disabled with the cheap telescope (on Pescado's old Myth thread which I think has been deleted).  Is this true?

I've thought that clueless people assume that since the boolprop cheat works on the cheap telescope, then abductions are possible, but maybe I'm wrong.  I tested it once, and got no abductions under conditions that usually give me 6 or 7.  But if the rate really is very low with the cheap one, then I wouldn't have picked it up.

So, any thoughts?  Anyone actually have a normal, non-cheat abduction with the cheap telescope?
94  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Preferrable Houses on: 2005 September 30, 03:52:38
I like them furnished.  That way I know where stuff is supposed to go.  I also like to see other's people's take on interior decorating, because I'm pretty bad at it.  (I did not get that gay gene.)  But I don't care if it's furnished cheap.  That's actually preferable because my sims are never rich.

I also tend to look for starter homes and prefer 1 or 2 stories.  Too many floors and I get sick of going up and down levels.  That's probably because I usually play with a full household.

edit: I also don't like a lot of custom content like floors and walls.  I get easily confused by too many choices.  Simple Maxis items are fine with me.  I use the Sim2PackClean installer to get the lot without the custom content anyways, so if it's there, and I like the house, it's not a big deal.
95  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How do you get job outfits into Body Shop? on: 2005 August 07, 18:15:44
Yep, Morague has a great tutorial over at MTS2 and the unlocked clothes at VS.  I'll just get the link.

Here's one: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=38392

Here's the other: http://www.variousimmers.net/vsimforum/showthread.php?t=1594

Thank you so much Posie.  I searched VS for Captain Hero and didn't find it. Never thought to look for SuperHero.  The links are much appreciated.
96  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / How do you get job outfits into Body Shop? on: 2005 August 07, 17:54:05
I want to try and create a Supreme Social Sim costume for my sim based of the Captain Hero job outfit.  I've downloaded the SuperVillian job outfit before, and I can create a project in Bodyshop to customize that.  But I can't find the Captain Hero job outfit on the Exchange.

So I tried using the boolprop cheat in CAS to create a sim wearing that outfit.  Then in SimPE, I exported that sim with the Sim Surgery pluggin.  When I run Body Shop, the sim in there wearing the Captain Hero outfit, but the outfit itself is not in the clothing section.  I can't put it on another sim, or export it in a project to customize it.  I can upload the sim, download the file and reinstall, but the outfit still does not show up as a separate piece of clothing.

Does anybody know how to take a job outfit and make it usable in Body Shop?

Thanks for any help.
97  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Birthday Cakes: Horribly and Unexplainably Buggy? on: 2005 August 01, 03:31:29
Nope.  I haven't had any such issues with the cake.  It's usually problematic because every sim has to watch when you use it - an issue I think you dealt with in your noswarm hack.  I used to have the whole household just sit on couches (no action queued), right before the birthday sim blew out the candles.

For infants, it's just difficult to age them.  I was using the tombstone of L and D (AGE baby option) to try and age 2 sets of infant twins, and it just wasn't happening.  Then I used the Make All Happy option on the mailbox and everything started to work like a charm.  Next time I have to age an infant I going to make sure the kid is as green as I can get 'em before using the cake.  I don't know if that will help, but it's worth a try, I think.
98  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Other Games? on: 2005 July 16, 17:39:09
I recently bought an X-Box, so I've been playing Halo2 online, and Otogi: Myth of Demons.  On the PC, I've been playing The Suffering, a nice blood soaked horror genre of a game.  I need to finish the 2nd expansion to Morrowind before I buy Oblivion - the next big game I am anxiously awaiting.   I tend to prefer first person shooters.  The Sims 2 is quite an anomaly for me.
