151  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: I know JM doesn't recommend a laptop running the game....But! on: 2008 February 22, 04:10:45
OEMs never release up to date drivers for their hardware especially video card drivers.

This is not true.

Maybe "never" isn't the best term, but I've had my laptop since '06 and there has yet to be an updated video driver.  I check regularly.

I play Sims on an already outdated laptop (I even actually use it on my lap - gotta lift it up every once in a while or my legs get hot, but meh...) and it seems to work wonderfully.  It's probably because I don't know what I'm missing, because I haven't used it on a PC.  I've had little or no problems - knock on wood.

Do you use either the anygame or basegamestarter by Numenor? Totally screws with your program files if you make a teeny tiny mistake when loading a game.

I've never downloaded it myself, but if it was included in a lot, may have done so inadvertently.  I'll check on that.  Don't remember ever seeing it while using the clean installer, though.

I just had this happen and have been searching to figure out what' s been going on.   My "seasons" neighborhood (whatever it was called) has disappeared.  I downloaded the blank neighborhoods from this site, but it worked until just recently.  I've removed my downloads, nuked the "neighborhood manager" file and no show.  The funny thing is that the stupid G001 folder still exists but the game won't recognize it.  The only thing I can think of is .... simPe.  I haven't used it since I downloaded it, yet it still starts when I am editing my downloads folder.  I merely run the curser over a file and the blasted thing starts running.  Could that have anything to do with my disappearing 'hood?  I haven't opened SimPe yet, so there are no neighborhood backups.  I really am not attached to the 'hood, but don't I don't like not knowing what is going on in my game.

I sure do hope someone has some answers 'cause I'm befuddled.

I prefer the 1:1 ratio of sims to bathrooms also.  Sims still congregate at one bathroom before sauntering off to find their own, but it alleviates a lot of morning congestion.

Nice house by the way.  Wink

I have been waiting for this nifty little unit to be released.  I really like things to be in order, so this program seems perfect.  Thanks!  And, now that I've learned about Townifying, I'll be making sure the townies have something decent to wear.  I love this site!

I DC.  I also have un-awesome stuff, as I have not cleaned out my dl folder in a long while.

Lol Inge,

The wall shader has only 3 versions up till now for BV.  The changes were for shadow map, poolwall and a thumbnail material.
http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Talk:ShaderWall

The wallmask has a cutout setting to cut out the shape illustrated in the wallmask txtr file.

lol, all you really need is to go to your BV's "...\TSData\Res\Catalog\Scripts" folder, open the wall.txt and alter the following:
requiresFlatBottom false  <-- to make the wall to form on uneven ground
requiresFlatTop false  <-- this the setting to fix the wallmask distortion
submersible true <-- to make the wall to build through the terrain water

Then, your wall will act as Easy wall or unlevelled walls... while the windows will look fine again.

But if you use a dummy/compressed level above the first level of room(s), then you can make it weather proof and avoid the distorted wallmask shape when without any modification on the wall.txt in the BV one.

Does this work onlly with wall hacks?  I have been having the weird window effect since I installed BV (it didn't seem to happen in Seasons) when I used the floor elevation.  I thought that since I'm not awesome, it was my lack of building skills.

What I'd like to know is that if I modify my  BV's "...\TSData\Res\Catalog\Scripts" folder,  and insert the text you stated above into the wall.txt folder, will the weird window effect be fixed, or do I need to install the wall hacks for this procedure to work?

Thanks for updating for BV!  Greatly appreciated.
