1  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: THE MUNICIPALITY NEEDS YOU! SUPPORT THE MUNICIPALITY! on: 2010 November 09, 09:29:30
I was surprised to see this only posted in the TS3 forum. It should be in the TS2 and either Retardoland or Be Less Stupid forums as well.  And nothing mentioning why a donation is nice: hax that make your game work, paysite content for free and bitchy posters poking at you gratis.  Gotta dumb it down for some to get why a donation would be nice.. and necessary.

Do we still get special titles/bump up our titles for donating?

I only have TS2.. TS3 did not appeal to me at all.  My new PC could handle prolly 3 full installations of that.. but I like what I have.  And am happy it actually all (the EPS) plays on it. (Last uber pc choked on Mansions and Gardens.. so I stopped playing in a fit of pique.  This one plays it nicely. I get to be Goddess again, with lots of plants.. muahahaha!)

I would hate to see this forum with all of its special denizens going by the internet wasteland and losing all the content on PMBD due to lack of fundage.

All hail the Bearded One!

2  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: the fighting skill, can be changed ??? on: 2009 April 21, 12:04:10
Ever try giving a fussy toddler yucky tasting medicine?  Oh, sorry, you were talking about the game.

I wonder... do toddlers interact with pets?  I could see a fight ensuing because the kid pulled on kitty's tail. Or a toddler to kid fight happening as they "fight" over a toy.
3  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Buying a new pc... help requested on: 2009 January 13, 23:15:35
We do have a pc guy who does work for a reasonable price.  But he solves most problems by formatting.  Like with my Shuttle... it was in twice and he said "virus".  Turned out the hard drive died from over heating.  It was 5 years old so had had a darn good run.  Now that I have an OS disk I can do that much on my own.  He would build the pc but we would have to buy the parts.  He does not play the Sims so I would have to give him the type of specs Pescado mentioned so that he could tell us what to buy.

I don't want a Dell or an Aspire (what I am on now).  I am leaning towards an iBUYPOWER or Cyberpower gaming pc.  I just need to know if higher numbered graphics cards will work with the game.  But I suppose that is one of those "find out by trying it" things.
4  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Buying a new pc... help requested on: 2009 January 13, 14:47:01
Since posting urls to pcs I might want would probably fall under the "no shilling" rule,  I just have one more question.  When it comes to graphics cards there are minimum specs listed at sims 2 support.  Would a card with higher specs.*** still work or would my game still not look pretty?

Such as getting an NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT 512MB Video Card when the min. specs say:

* GeForce 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950

Intel Extreme Graphics (see note below)
  * 82865, 82915 and above

*** I think that is a higher spec. card but I am not savvy enough to know for sure.
5  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Buying a new pc... help requested on: 2009 January 13, 12:37:25
I do have an OS disk but prefer it already installed.
No, you don't. First, if you buy from a company that installs for you, they will install SPYWARE on it. Second, if you buy from such a place, they will sell you a crappy computer.

I'd rather spend a small amount of time deleting off the spyware rather than trying to track down drivers for every little thing on my pc.  BTDT and it was a pain.  I'm not even sure I'm using the right drivers for some things but my computer is working so I guess the ones I used were close enough.

CD/DVD burner a must.
How many old computers do you have? CD/DVD drive technology has not changed in ages, so it is trivial to cannibalize a drive from a dead computer, saving you $20-50.

I only have one dead pc but it will be getting resurrected.. my shuttle will live if my husband ever remembers to take it to the pc guy.  A hard drive replacement didn't quite fix it so now it needs someone who knows what they are doing to go through it and get it running again.  Meanwhile he (husband) told me to just buy a new pc that will play my game.  I mentioned the burner because we do have an older running pc (Windows 2000) that has only a CD drive.. it has a floppy drive too.  It works fine for the 76 yo. but is a bit slow.

So, as a rule, expect to drop anything between $150-250 on a CPU/Motherboard combination, maybe $100 for a video card, another $100 or so for RAMs, and maybe $100-150 for drives. This will get you a high-end machine good for 2 years or so. Monitors not included, but there's nothing wrong with the one you have, yes? Monitor technology hasn't changed in years, so monitors don't go obsolete, they just become broken. If yours isn't broken, it's still good. Keyboards, meeces, same story, this hasn't changed in longer than many have been alive. My keyboard is probably older than most people here. So you don't need any of that, anyway.

All I need is the tower with the best graphics card for Sims 2, enough memory and storage to not need to add on to it for a few years and, I wish, with XP on it (but I can do a re-install over Vista.. it is just so tedious to gather all the drivers to do so, and doesn't always work).  And some speakers but those can be grabbed when we go grocery shopping.  My monitor has speakers built-in but I want a little louder sound on occasion.

Therefore, you will need: One motherboard/CPU, I recommend one of the Intel-based CPUs (I have an E8400) as the AMDs lag behind in performance still, 3 GBs of RAMs (more will do you no good because Win32 cannot use it effectively), and I've had satisfactory results with my aging but still current ATI X1950. Be warned that if you are non-technical, trying to install Windoze XP on a SATA drive can be a source of grief. Naturally, under no circumstances should you consider giving money to Microsoft.

I was hoping someone could point to a specific desktop that would do what I need.. run the Sims.  Or hand hold me and point out each component via URL that is needed (but building a pc from scratch just doesn't sound like my idea of fun).

My husband pointed out that tigerdirect does have barebones Shuttle pcs for sale. I would love to have a second one because they are a great and teensy* way to play my game. But I would need someone, again, to point out what to buy to get it from "It turns on." to "Yay, I can play!".  I miss my Shuttle because it has dual graphics cards and room to expand its RAM. Even as old and slow as it was playing Sims 2 and all the eps up to Vacations, it never had glitches.

*Think the size of a bread toaster.

I have $600 US to spend.  I want a desk top that will play Sims 2 and all its expansions.  I'm tired of the graphical glitches such as "I aint got no body, she aint got no head!" and "Look, the bedspread is stretched to the road!" or "As the hourglass spins".

I do have an OS disk but prefer it already installed.

CD/DVD burner a must.

Dual disk drive would be nice.

Prefer tigerdirect but, with glowing recommendations, will consider other sites.

My pc is being given to a son so hardware upgrades to it are not going to happen right now.

Direct links will be greatly appreciated.
7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: CLEAN GAME throwing errors on loading apartments on: 2008 November 01, 02:32:02
There is one at 2forU Sims too then. I saw it yesterday but shut down my interwebs without clicking anything. Nothing downloaded but it tried to open up my Adobe.

Crap, I might have had this happen to me. I don't remember, but it seems familiar. I didn't get any warning. Perhaps AVG has failed me? How do I save the internets? D: D: D:

Fake Edit: Dammit I just checked my AVG and it says that for some bloody cryptic reason the databases are outdated and felt no need to auto-update. HALP.

DL updates for AVG from here.  Run it.  Then I suggest booting into safe mode.. and then running AVG plus any other anti-virus/anti-malware programs you have.
8  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Support the evil empire! Save a kittun! GOAL REACHED! on: 2008 October 09, 13:58:55
The goal has been met so how much longer until our custom titles get handed out/upgraded?
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Support the evil empire! Save a kittun! Give us money! on: 2008 September 04, 13:50:05
OK - I have sent money via paypal because that seems the only viable option for us over here.  So can I be a Baronette now?

Last time we had to wait until all the money was collected.. perhaps due to the PP fiasco.  So I'm not holding my breath until then .. much as some would like me to  Cheesy
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Urgh; AL townies breeding like rats! on: 2008 September 01, 17:50:44
I'm not sure if this is a bug or not but I was playing it a custom hood which was brand new.. I sent my sim to a community lot in the hopes of meeting a witch.  He did.  As a matter of fact while he was talking to the super duper evil witch a second super duper evil witch appeared.  The 2 witches shot spells at one another and then gabbed like bestest buddies.  The only hax I had in at the time were maty-al.zip ones.

One thing that might have caused the second witch to show up was I had clicked on the first as soon as I saw her.  I wasn't sure if she would do a "ninja" and I wanted my sim to try out the witch craft stuff.  Since I was focused on my sim I have no idea how long the witch had been on the lot but she was still standing next to the phone when I selected her and set the command to greet her.  By the time my sim made his way over to her she had moved to the sidewalk and set off a storm.

I'm guessing that having 3 of each type of witch is normal but I thought, like the vampires, you would only see one of each unless something happened to them.. death or a change of status?
11  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Support the evil empire! Save a kittun! Give us money! on: 2008 August 30, 00:52:44
Considering that Paypal charges you a fee, does $50 grant a title of Baron(ess), or should it be $50 + fee?

Last time I went with the $50 + fee route by using the handy dandy paypal calculator.

12  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: MATY and PMBD design contest! on: 2008 August 23, 07:08:47
I would buy a t-shirt with both of these last 2 images.. one on the front (maty) and one on the back (pmbd) .. or even just a bumper sticker with those on it/one of each.  Now I'm wondering about pc skins/stickers.. that would be awesome!
13  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Support the evil empire! Save a kittun! Give us money! on: 2008 August 23, 06:58:43
Yes, if you want a title or webspace, we can offer that deal again.

How much for your daughterto bump up a custom title?  Or.. can a largish amount be split between PMBD and here?  Like $100= $75 at PMBD=whatever title and the remaining $25 might push ones custom title up a notch? Or whatever amount needed to get 2 titles .. woot!
14  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: You could meet Pescado in a dark alley with a suitcase full of cash, or... on: 2008 August 12, 01:07:01
I already posted at PMBD but I'll reiterate here.  I prefer PayPal but would do money order.  Last time this came up it was almost unanimous that CP was icky and that no one would touch branded stuff so to see it 180 from that stance is amusing.

I did a quick google search on anonymous online payment system and the first 2 hits might have info to help Hecubus and Pescado figure out how to transfer the large sums of money more easily.
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Which ep did this come from? on: 2008 April 30, 22:59:54
S/he's the same one that made the rape hack. So yeah. Yuck.

And let me guess, the negative response to that hack was so bad that S/he/it no longer bothers to update it?

BTW, when WAS the last time that that disturbing hack was updated?

I dunno because 1) I never wanted that hack.. ACR comes close enough to reality for me and 2) you have to join a yahoo group to get it.. read this thread for more info:
http://www.sims2workshop.com/viewtopic.php?t=2050

Personally, I loved her hacked towels.. cheap and pretty while also cleaning up the sim's hygiene and her Golden Spider which is obsolete for me once I figured out how to use testing mode.
16  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Which ep did this come from? on: 2008 April 30, 21:17:39
I wonder if it was Freetime...  Cool

Every time I see/say BV to myself it gets mutilated into VD.  I suppose one should be careful about that if one is vacationing and fulfilling Romance wants.  Hmm.. that would be an interesting NPC scenario.. sort of like Typhoid Mary but rather VD Betty or Bob*. What with hidden Asps and all .. sie could be any NPC you could interact with on vacation/downtown/the bus stop.  Then again, I hate the Flu and how it affects sims, so I probably wouldn't really want my sims to catch this either.

*I know that someone, Carrigan?? I think, made an STD mod but I never downloaded it.

17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Which ep did this come from? on: 2008 April 30, 17:17:41
Baaa! Err.. thanks everyone.  That was going to bug me all day until I knew for sure.
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Which ep did this come from? on: 2008 April 30, 14:00:33
I just started a new hood on a new pc.. I have all eps no stuff packs.  Anyhoo.. did BV or FT allow one to install all 3 universities?  I'm guessing FT since I when I first installed it I had a hood going (other pc) and didn't need to add a school since I had one.  Unless I just spaced that option out while playing BV...

19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Trapped at the Double Palm on: 2008 January 31, 04:19:39
Check to be sure which place it is first.. then go in under "build" mode and add new stairs, elevator or revamp/remodel w/o a 2nd floor?  Pre-made Eaxis houses/motels/hotels/lots are buggy or just don't "flow" right sometimes.
20  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My computer. It is broken. I could cry. HELP! Will offer bribe! on: 2008 January 31, 04:15:10
Unfortunately it is no longer under warranty, and if I want them to fix ANYTHING now, I have to pay them oodles of money to do so.

Would a broken motherboard or a broken connection explain why I only have this problem when starting the computer, though, and only sometimes? I mean, if it is that kind of a hardware problem, why wouldn't it crash the computer while I'm using it?

I'm wondering if the computer is valuable enough to be worth hiring someone or getting a new motherboard. And if I do that, I think I have to know for sure what the problem is, first.

I'm guessing that the  problem occurs because your laptop is cold and the connecting spot is like this-> [   ] and when it warms up or is played in a warm environment is it like this-> [].  Metal expands when heated and contracts when cooled.
21  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: CD Burner broken on: 2007 December 20, 02:14:51
One thing you can also try is deleting your IDE channels drivers (if you have them).

To find them go to start->my computer->cd drive->properties->hardware and then properties again, drivers and uninstall them.

reboot and windows will reinstall them.

This is what I had to do to get my burner back.  I have burned music and photos so far (they play back/can hear and see them just fine).. and am in the process of burning a back-up of my Grease DVD (which plays just fine on my pc).  My Sonic burning program and CDBurnerXP are both broken through a missing .msi file but so far the 3 programs I dl'd for burning DVDs  (DVDFab, DVD Shrink and BurnAware.. all from majorgeeks.com) are working.. once it finishes and I test it I'll add that info to this post.

Ok .. so I burned the disk.. and it worked almost perfectly.  Almost because my pc is saying it is a blank disk and won't play it.. yet it will play on my other pc  Huh Hmm.. guess I'll have to do some more digging around to see what the deal is and fix it.

22  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Teen Prom -- what hacks can make this happen? on: 2007 December 01, 17:10:24
Let us know how it turns out, Gethane. That's an interesting idea you had. There is so little that can be done with teens, and even less with the kids. A shame, really.

And like I said, if you want the flamingos, just let me know. I'll go find them.

I bet you are talking about Gnohmon's Flamingos.. am I right?  I've only ever cared for the max motives one.. it just bugs me to see everyones motives set at a low bar even if they'll never plummet into failure range.  On home lots it's quicker to place a flamingo than to pull up the cheat window and type in MaxMotives.. but if I actually remember to to run "cheats enabled true" it's really much quicker to just drag the bars to where I want them.

For community lots I prefer Carrigan's Golden Spider to set motives/relationships.  Couple that with Merola's Mirror for control of visitors.  I think the mirror is community placeable.

23  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: BV: Anybody Updating These Abandoned Mods? on: 2007 November 20, 14:02:53
I was really surprised that no one has made a decorative non-playable piano over at MTS2.  Well, I suppose as long as you don't download the fix needed to make this piano playable http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=181755 it would work as a decoration only.

I'd like to see one that  was maybe originally a bed and only pets can sleep on it.  Or maybe just cats could since seeing a dog sleeping on a piano (or computer keyboard!!) isn't as funny.

My luck, I would forget it was purely decorative and not be able to figure out why future sims couldn't gain skill with it/ couldn't play on it  Cheesy

24  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Room Service Fix - Not Fixed on: 2007 October 03, 12:33:18
Seems to me the OP did report to the author of that hack that it wasn't working.. and was asking here in the hopes that His Awsomeness could possibly make an awesome hack that worked better/less conflicting than the other hack.  Pescado does frown upon the usage of less awesome hacks so it stands to reason to ask if he has a fix.

I don't think one could ask for a better hack request than the one the OP did.. they did their homework, requested instead of demanded and used nice grammar.

25  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: antispyware getting on my freakingfracking nerves(sim related) on: 2007 September 26, 00:59:07
ok, I managed to ctrl alt del, but I didn't see it running, all I saw was the sims 2 pets, that hijack this page, and this page!

Try looking under "processes" instead of under "applications".  There will be a ton of things running.. concentrate on the ones that don't say "system" or "local service". On mine it has our last name.. I can close anything that says "CErensdorf" w/o hurting my pc... it might shut down my internet (firefox.exe), it might stop the task manager (taskmgr.exe).. or maybe the whole pc (explorer.exe) but it won't break anything.

Before shutting anything off/down write it down in notepad so that you can do a search on google just what the process is.

Sounds like you have a virulent virus though.
