101  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: File Management - renaming files, meshes and FBVFOS on: 2005 December 15, 15:07:41
Well I went for it, renamed, deleted, folderised the lot. Went from about 1500 downloads to only 300 Smiley Will try to load the game later Wink Cheers for all the help and such.

Heh, no worries Smiley I've been through my walls and floors, but haven't had time to do anything else yet. Bring on the holidays I say!
103  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: File Management - renaming files, meshes and FBVFOS on: 2005 December 11, 17:06:46
Some meshes with MESH in the filename, well the rest of their filename makes no sense. So it doesn't help that much  Undecided

Meow.
105  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: File Management - renaming files, meshes and FBVFOS on: 2005 December 10, 15:58:14
I was trying to sort my downloads a lazyish way (packaging sims with the stuff I wanted, doing a mass delete and adding it back in), and meshes don't get packaged... it's a right pain... :-/

I've been doing the same, hadn't spotted the mesh problem though - Oops and thanks for the warning

You're welcome - I checked with one package before going all out and doing the lot. As it is I've found a lot of the meshed stuff (all hairstyles, some clothes) that I want to keep and redownloaded them, so now I can implement a more organised downloads folder, I just don't have time to do it yet Smiley

Shame you missed my sarcasm Database.

Pffrt, kewian is not immortal, everyone has a weakness.

Ugh, Database, that wasn't a direct direct insult, it wasn't intended as an insult really. You said you didn't know for sure Tongue Stupid Database.

108  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: File Management - renaming files, meshes and FBVFOS on: 2005 December 07, 22:00:00
Thankyou Nectere, MutantBunny Smiley I've given up on the downloads folder for tonight as it is driving me nuts - but those are all good things to know, really appreciate the help Smiley

Thanks for the input Renatus Smiley much appreciated.

1. Can you rename a package file? Will the game care? Does it matter if it's a texture for a mesh/mesh for a texture? Will this cause a FBVFOS?
... Maybe someone else would have a more definitive answer (either Pescado, or probably Motoki would know Tongue).

Hmm, okie doke. Will ask.

2. There's no way to tell which file is what mesh-file right? Because stupid people don't label them correctly? Packaging a sim does not include the mesh-file, right?
Er... I don't know this one either since I don't really use meshes... and by "stupid people" do you mean the people who created the meshes in the first place? Or people who packaged the sim? I thought that packaging a sim "in game" would also pull in the mesh...

By stupid people I meant whoever is responsible for the pointlessly inadequet filename... whoever that may be. They are only stupid for that reason as far as I'm aware - I probably love the meshes, I'd just love to know what they are.

I was trying to sort my downloads a lazyish way (packaging sims with the stuff I wanted, doing a mass delete and adding it back in), and meshes don't get packaged... it's a right pain... :-/

Will bear the hack information in mind - thanks Smiley I don't think I have any that come under that umbrella at the moment though.

I don't know if that also deletes them from the SavedSims folder, but I imagine it does. *shrugs*

Deleting from bodyshop does it seems. Thanks for that info also Smiley

You were help Wink This is stuff I needed to know.
110  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / File Management - renaming files, meshes and FBVFOS (new question) on: 2005 December 07, 18:57:44
I had a look around and whilst some of my questions got answered, I have more, and for some reason am not willing to take Database's word for it Wink Also added a couple of curiosities...

1. Can you rename a package file? Will the game care? Does it matter if it's a texture for a mesh/mesh for a texture? Will this cause a FBVFOS?

2. There's no way to tell which file is what mesh-file right? Because stupid people don't label them correctly? Packaging a sim does not include the mesh-file, right?

3. With Nightlife, you can put anything in subfolders, ANYTHING?!

4. All Kewians need stomping Wink

5. How do you organise your downloads?

6. Can you rename saved sims stupid long number names or are they stuck like that forevermore?

7. Deleting stuff just results in blue static?

8. Terrains = death.

Thanks Wink
111  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Too many files/sims explanation for dummies needed on: 2005 December 03, 16:13:44
Maxis CLAIMS that with the patch for Uni/Nightlife that they have upped the limit of sims for neighborhoods to remain stable.  I do not know if it is true...and what the new limit is suppose to be now.  According to MaxisHunter they are now unable to recreate the Final Exam bug...and the Dead/Elder bug...since the patch.  Again I do not know how true this is.  Does anyone know?

Would like confirmation of this also...
112  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: It's begun... on: 2005 November 23, 14:56:35
Anyone else notice that they didn't stick all the holiday objects in a "collections" folder. You would have thought since they did with the NL and Uni stuff, and some other random things... but no. That would have been useful - and yes I did it myself in the end. But I don't know, that bugged me.

114  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Using Groups on: 2005 November 21, 13:46:55
I used it once I think... I never really thought about it before now, sounds like I should be using it.

I also need to practice with the scored outings, I think I had a couple of ok ones. If I remember rightly - social interaction is the key?

I think I'll go play the game...
115  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: It's begun... on: 2005 November 17, 17:48:08
I forgot about it until just now in my perusal of one of the sims communities over at livejournal.

There are santa screenshots here for anyone interested.

I guess elephants in pyjamas really don't exist now then...  Undecided
117  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How rich is "rich"... on: 2005 October 23, 20:46:14
To add...

Posie did a study on this - the BBS thread is here.

Very thorough and worth a read.
118  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: FREE Car download! And this one actually looks GOOD! on: 2005 October 18, 21:34:13
That car looks like something a middle aged soccer mom would drive.  I wanna horse drawn hearse waa! Cry

From what I can make out from my peers, it's aimed at a more young adult age group Wink One of my friends has one, I personally hate it...

The world is in very grave danger.
120  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Flaming Toilet on: 2005 October 17, 16:34:26
Well that's what the A-level art course was like - you have to be able to justify everything, same goes for my Interactive Design - why did you choose this font? Why did you put that image there? Because it looks good isn't a good enough reason on its own, it has to have depth...
121  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Flaming Toilet on: 2005 October 17, 14:41:24
Tracy Emin...

She is one hell of a weird artist, I'm not very fond of her stuff. However, what you said ZZ - art is a point of view, really it boils down to the fact that art is an expression. (I do wish that the A-level art coursework we had required something as easy as this though Wink )
122  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Holiday Addon pack announced on: 2005 October 13, 18:13:00
I have no bookcases, so all my books are in piles all over my room Smiley The first time I went to my university library last week, I flipped out at all the books. I could quite easily live in it!
123  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Holiday Addon pack announced on: 2005 October 13, 13:53:28
Thanks a lot, I'll get it when I have the spare cash!  (I never buy in the shops now, for the same reason.  When I got the original sims2 from Amazon, it wss miles cheaper than the shops!  and even with the free delivery (2nd class) it only took 2 days to arrive (one really, as I ordered it on a sunday and it arrived on the Tuesday!

I just wish supermarket ordering was cheaper, instead of that £5 delivery charge!  Then I might use that too!

I used free delivery and got it and NL on the day it was released, university one day later. I was very impressed, and I do like Amazon a lot. I've had to quit though, I get too click happy in the books section Wink
124  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The patch will be out tomorrow... on: 2005 October 12, 21:30:19
Oh and I have no idea if the patch caused this or its just some odd coincidence, but I just had the cow mascot barge into a home in my regular neighborhood and I've never had that happen before. Could very well be some totally unrelated fluke, but if anyone else has this happen after patching please post and let me know.

It's happened to me before. Fluke.
125  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Holiday Addon pack announced on: 2005 October 12, 21:24:35
I stopped buying in the shops a while back as preordering is cheaper, so I haven't noticed. That link should take you straight to the DVD version.
