76  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Crash on resized lots at 7PM -- any ideas? on: 2007 November 11, 05:12:30
Nope - no crash even with shrunk-off groundpaint.  Sad   I feel as if I don't fit in!  Everyone else has managed to make at least *one* crashing lot

Not me.  I haven't had any crashing at all.  Not with my lots or anyone else's.
77  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sims take care of selves: World implodes on: 2007 November 11, 05:01:15
I've seen them auto-repair, and they don't even need high skills to do it.  I lost a poor stupid teen boy that way once.  Oops!

That's interesting about the MP3 player.  I've never seen that before.
78  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Walls closer to the lot edges... on: 2007 October 29, 14:23:57
Ok. Got a set of four done. 2x1 townhome (3 bed, 2 1/2 bath) with the right and left edges on the ends of the lot, back side one space from the edge (so I could add windows). 1x1 townhome (2 bed, 1 bath) with right, left, and back sides one space from the edge. Then both with a back yard and bonus room added...a 2x2 and a 1x2. That way you can stagger them to fit in 3xX blocks without having blank sections in the middle. I'll get them up to MTS2 once this supposed 7 pm crash (which I still haven't seen, even after testing my four) is figured out. They come without the fencing and plants/pools and...shockingly...no custom content.

Zazazu, those look great!  Do they have parking?
79  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Crash on resized lots at 7PM -- any ideas? on: 2007 October 28, 20:34:11
I would like to be able to help you guys out, but I have not been able to reproduce this crash at all.

Pbox, I have played two of your houses - the Backdoor Lane 42, and Row House 01, as well as several of my own shrunken row houses.  Both with my own Sims, and brand new, never-been-played CAS sims.  Both with saving and without.  All EPs, plenty of CC and mods.  I am using my regular (custom) hood at the moment.  7:00 PM comes around and everything is fine.  No crashing here.

Let me know if there is any particular scenario I could test.
80  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Walls closer to the lot edges... on: 2007 October 26, 14:16:07
That tutorial, and a few row houses, is the only thing that's *my* work btw

Pbox, you say you've made a "few" rowhouses?  Do you have any others posted on MTS2 yet?  (I mean the individual side-by-side ones.  I obviously know about the whole Backdoor Lane series Wink )  I've only just seen the one, Backdoor Lane 42.  Love it, btw.  I can't wait to try making my own.

This is slightly OT, but related to the shrinking feature in the new LE - has anyone tried shrinking beach lots yet?
81  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Vacation Locals invading neighborhood?! on: 2007 October 20, 13:37:35
I don't think that is supposed to happen.  Are you sure you made your NPCs locals, and not just tourists?

Tourists can show up anywhere, I think.  I've seen them in my base hoods, and the teens and children come home from school with my kids.  But I have never seen locals anywhere but on vacation, in their proper hoods.

There is a thread here, in Peasantry, about making Sims into locals.  There is a fix you need to download for it.

Here, read this: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,9684.0.html
82  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Did EAxis bork sharing beach front lots too? on: 2007 October 18, 02:10:26
I also wish we had some 2x5s and some 1x5s.  You're right though, that they probably wouldn't fit anyway.  Unless whoever made them maybe specified the slope steepness on each lot?  Like several 2x5s, one for each level of slope, flat, medium, or steep.  Who knows.  I hope someone figures it out though.
83  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Not comprehending the BV/SecuRom problem on: 2007 October 18, 02:00:54
I've only got 640 mb RAM, all SPs and EPs, plenty of CC, and I can see the stupid movie things (they're turned off though, because they're annoying).  I do have another 512 that I'm waiting for hubby to install, and I'm pretty excited about it.  I'm going to send all of my sims to the mall at the same time.

You know the thing I've found that sucks up the most RAM is the UI transparency.  Turn that sucker off and it makes a huge difference.

So does RAM have to do with loading times too?  If so, that's good news.  I'm waiting anywhere from 4-8 minutes between lots since BV.
84  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: CEP 7.0b (BV version) released! on: 2007 October 07, 03:08:19
Cool.  Is this going to allow those new toilet stall recolors to show up?
85  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Does this sound like a SecuROM side effect? on: 2007 October 07, 03:05:43
It was also apparently shipped with H&M Stuff, which I bought in June.  It seems a bit fishy though that the SecuROM folder I found was created September 9th, the day I installed BV.  Wouldn't the folder be older than that if it was shipped with H&M?  Huh
86  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Does this sound like a SecuROM side effect? on: 2007 October 05, 20:00:50
I open BV, it makes me turn off my anti-virus program...

How did it make you turn off your anti-virus?  Was there a message or something?  I've never experienced that.  I almost always have an internet browser open and anti-virus when I play.
87  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: NPC Creator - Make Vacation Sim (Local) fix on: 2007 September 23, 21:53:51
ETA: CAS Sims into Vacation Locals
-Merge with existing family on lot with NPC creator
-remove Mystery Sim memories with FFS debugger
-make into townie using Inge's teleporter
-Make Into Vacation Sim>(type)>Sim Name on NPC creator

Do you have to remove the memories before making them townies and then locals?  This is what I would like to do - I have an elder couple who I am not playing anymore, but they still have family that I do play, and I thought it would be nice if they "retired" to Twikkii Island until it is time for them to die.  Would there be any harm in leaving their memories intact, and making them into locals on the island?  That way they'd be there for their family to call or go visit, but I wouldn't have to worry about playing them, or leave them taking up space in a house somewhere Smiley  One of them is born-in-game, so she has quite a few memories.

ETA: So I guess I am impatient, because I just went ahead and tried it out Smiley  It seems to have worked just fine.  But the game did erase their memories, with the exception of their going to college and their marriage.  They even forgot having their daughter, I suppose because the daughter is no longer living, though she does show up on the family tree just fine.  The woman's sister was able to invite her as a houseguest, and she came the next morning.  She had the appropriate gestures.  I'll just have to check to see if she shows up wandering around Twikkii Island, next time I have someone visit.

Feel free to let me know if I've made a huge mistake.  But so far, it seems to be a great way of getting rid of sims you don't want to play anymore Wink
88  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: NPC Creator - Make Vacation Sim (Local) fix on: 2007 September 21, 12:04:37
Thank you for this.  I can't wait to try it.

I'm playing without the notownieregen at the moment, because with my face templates, I never really minded seeing a new face pop up now and then.  What I am wondering though is if anyone knows why BV seemed to have skipped over my face templates and made regular old Maxis ugly ones?  And if I don't use notownieregen, will my game continue to spawn ugly locals and tourists?  Or will it use my face templates from now on?

Is there just one no regen hack?  The notownieregen?  Will this stop downtownies too?  Dormies?

Thank you for the info on the tourist/local pools.  Is there a new SimPe out?
89  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Quick BV Question on: 2007 September 18, 16:57:56
Speaking of BV comm lot marriage. Has anyone else tried it? I tried it using maxis wedding arch and the celebration arches. On comm lots there were no menu's available on the arch but the person to person proposal option was there.

Anyone found a work around. This was when running the game vanilla so no mod confliction.

I just had a couple get married at a beach wedding resort I'm working on in Twikkii Island.  I'm using the Community Weddings hack (by Squinge?), which has obviously not been updated, but seems to be working.  However, I could not place the Celebrations Stuff arches since BV, but I could use the ones that were already placed in my old base neighborhood wedding hall.

Another small complaint is that I wanted him to wear his white shirt and pants for the wedding, but clicking on the arch made them change into their formalwear.  So to stay casual (for the beach theme!) I had to just propose marriage under the arch.  The arch did work though.  People came to sit down in the chairs and everything.

Pics to share Wink

I also move families every generation as a general rule, and more than half their current cash has to be used to build the new house.

I move my sim-children out into their own households too, keeping with the realism play-style.  But you're right, it does take a lot of money to rebuild and refurnish a house.  If any of my Sims do inherit their parents' home, they have to pay a 40% estate tax.  I'm so mean to them Smiley

Do you buy your Fortune sims the piles of stuff they ask for?

I do if it makes sense.  If they don't already have it.  And if it isn't stupid, like wanting to buy a guitar when they don't even have a toilet yet  Roll Eyes

Here's my amount of character files:

Idylleville, 3903.

No worries.

Thanks, I feel better about the 913 Sims in my Lakeside Heights now Wink
93  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Too much money on: 2007 September 13, 18:51:57
I use increased bills too.  And like the others said, no20khandouts and harderjobs.  I also use syberspunk's Uni careers hack, so that some of the higher-paying non-uni jobs now require an education.  I use Inge's mortgage shrubs, so that my sims can take out loans to buy their homes, businesses, student loans, and such.  There is the private school bill hack.  I make my sims pay $1000 per semester for college tuition, paid via Monique's hacked computer.  They also pay rent for living in the dorms.  In my neighborhood, one of my richer sims is a real estate mogul/slumlord, and my renting sims pay their rent to him, again via Monique's computer.

Also, from a gameplay perspective, I don't allow ALL of my sims to skill up quickly, go to college, and make lots of friends.  I try to vary it as much as I can, and base it on their personalities and current wants.  If they don't want to gain a skill point, they don't get one.  If they don't want to work on a promotion, they don't.  That way, the sims in my neighborhood are varied - some smart and some dumb, and as a result, some rich and some poor.  I also impose a few personal rules to make it even harder - only parents with logic >3 can teach their kids to study.  Only parents with logic >8 can feed their toddlers smart milk.  Only sims with outgoing >8 can practice speech without a want for it.  Only sims with active >8 can workout without a want for it.  That usually gives me a more realistic distribution of wealth and poverty.

There's a lot you can do with a few good hacks and a little imagination Smiley

94  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Can your sim run a hotel? on: 2007 September 11, 21:30:02
I have an owned community lot hotel.  It's kind of sleazy and he charges by the hour.  I use a community lot sleeping hack, probably the Squinge one (?), and the mind control mirror to put the guests to bed when they're tired (otherwise they'll just go home, I think).  The other sims in my neighborhood visit too.  They bring their mistresses there, teenagers bring their dates after prom.  It's a lovely place Wink

I also have a less sleazy country-club type owned hotel, but it also charges by the hour (more expensive though) just because that's the way OFB works.

These are both in the base neighborhood.  I have no idea if you can own a business in a vacation hood or not...
95  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bon Voyage satisfaction on: 2007 September 11, 15:27:17
Yes, the trees are gorgeous!  They're going to be of much use in my custom base neighborhood which is kind of a woodsy suburban lake town Smiley

I love the walking too!  Hmmm, I wonder if you can walk in the regular neighborhoods?  I haven't really played anyone not on vacation since I got it.

And I love the beach lots.  I would love them even more if they came in some smaller sizes.  Anyone know yet if we can build out over the water?  I guess I should go try it and find out Wink

Definitely one of the better EPs.
96  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bon Voyage dissatisfaction on: 2007 September 11, 04:19:34
Please say a notouristregen is in the works and if Inge happens to be floating around a "make me a tourist" update to her teleporter wouldn't be half bad either.

I am seconding all of this right now!  Oh, the ugliness!!!  Somebody please make it stop!
97  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bon Voyage dissatisfaction on: 2007 September 10, 20:54:12
I haven't had much time to play it yet, but I thought I'd throw in my list of complaints as well Wink

Ordering pictures is annoying so far.  You have to do each print or album separately, and they're delivered separately as well.  Maybe there's something I'm missing?

The beach lots are huge!  I sure hope somebody can make us up some smaller sizes, like a 1x5, or 2x5, I suppose if they have to be 5 deep.  I was hoping to build some cute little beach-front private bungalows, or something.

So far, it's looking like all the tourist "families" are blood related.  I'm wondering if there are any "families" of singles?  What fun is spring break for my college kids if the only tourists are married people and teenagers?  I guess the locals are single though, right?

I think this might work for making Tourist families - they're not like Townies, they are complete families in the 7FEn range.  Just make a CAS family then edit them in SimPE to give them a family number 7FE(something) - making sure to get rid of the sims already at that family number.  There seem to be 4 sims in each tourist family, I am not sure if that is a requirment Smiley

Do you think this would work with groupings of college students as well?

Whoever it was that realised stopping the game from dialling home reduces loading times is a genius! ...Now by simply removing the internet cable from the wall before playing the loading time is actually less than it was before I installed BV!

I've noticed the load times take forever too.  I managed to fold four loads of laundry last night while waiting for loading screens Smiley  So is disconnecting the only way to prevent the dialing home?  I often like to pop on and off of the internet while Simming, so I hope there's another way.
98  Ye Olde Simmes 2 Archives: Dead Creators / Ye Olde Syberspunke Archives / Re: Testers Wanted: Move Out (Evict) Dormies *EXPERIMENTAL BETA* Updated 8/24/20 on: 2007 August 26, 12:01:01
When you checked her from the other lot, how did you do it?  Did you summon her to the lot?  Or was she already on that lot?  And the relationships, were they at least zeroed out?  I mean STR and LTR are at 0?

I checked her from her boyfriend's lots.  He invited her over with the e-card on Monique's computer.  She still had 95/95 with him, and he did with her as well, as well as crush and love flags.  She still had relationships with all of her other friends too.

On second thought about adding a function to reroll personalities and aspiration, don't bother.  It's VERY simple just to mind-control and use the college adjuster (or one of about a billion other mods I already have on the lot) to do this before resetting.

Off-topic, but how do you select parts of quotes like you did in your reply?  Or are you just selecting "insert quote" and erasing the part you don't want?  I've been trying to figure this out for ages! Smiley
99  Ye Olde Simmes 2 Archives: Dead Creators / Ye Olde Syberspunke Archives / Re: Testers Wanted: Move Out (Evict) Dormies *EXPERIMENTAL BETA* Updated 8/24/20 on: 2007 August 25, 02:57:42
Is it safe to assume that, if you are erasing memories, you also always want to reset relationships too?  This makes sense to me, since it would seem silly for sims to have lost their memories of meeting and interacting with other sims, but still have a pre-existing relationship and/or flags set (crush, love, etc.).

Yes, I would want the relationships reset too.

I don't suppose anyone knows yet what this will do to the Sim whose relationship is being erased?  Is this going to work on both sides?  Like if Grandpa thinks he dated a girl named Rose years and years ago in college, and you reset Rose, would he still remember her?  Would he still have the memory, but under the girl's new name and picture?  I suppose I should test it and find out, huh Wink

I very much like the idea of having a rename function in this as well.  I know there are other ways, but it would be handy.  I also second rerolling interests and personalities.

On a side note, does anyone know of an easier way to change dormie/townie clothing?  The only ways I know of is the tedious age up, age down method (which I've never actually tried on a dormie, since I'm guessing their school panel wouldn't work again afterwards) - or selling to them in an owned business.  Neither of those two options is very easy.

And finally, I don't mean to be a pain in the butt, but would it be possible to make this mod available any time, rather than only when the last dormie moves out?  Reason being that I like to keep the family name on the dorm matching the dorm's name, for easy use of the familyfunds cheat, so I try not to ever move out the last sim in a dorm.  And I don't know if it would work, but if available any time, maybe I could also use this on a few regular townies that have been hanging around my 'hood too long Smiley

ETA:  I tried it, and can't get it to work in erasing the relationships.  I got the prompt, clicked yes on the sim I wanted erased, and she even got the "boing" sound and the negative relationship points above her head, but when I checked her from another lot, she still had all her relationships and flags.  Memories were gone though.
100  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: OfB Employee payments: How broken are they, exactly? on: 2007 August 22, 20:20:59
In my eyes, this actually makes total sense -- if Celia spends money at Bob's business, that money should better end up somewhere. Also: everything else that happens to Alice and Bob during Celia's visit (say Alice meets Joe and Bob pees himself) will leave memories and affect relationships etc, it's clearly part of their lives, so why not the financial side of it?

It [triple-dipping] does make sense, in theory.  But here is my problem with it, an example from my game:

David owns a level 10 banquet hall, and charges customers $50 an hour.  He has two employees, Andrea (DJ) and Mallory (manager).  David has to have a manager if he wants to make money at home, and Mallory demands that she be paid $110 an hour!!!  Whatever, so David just doesn't ask her to come to work when he is there.  Andrea is cheap and only wants $25 an hour, so David sells at the door himself, and Andrea DJ's, and David makes lots of money.  And David still gets to make money at home because he has a manager, even if he never uses her.

BUT, lets say Toby is a visiting sim at David's banquet hall, and he spends a long time there.  (This is where the triple-dipping takes place)  Both Andrea and Mallory show up to work and David's profits are sucked dry!  He makes no net profit while Toby is visiting, even though Toby has paid him $50 x however many hours he stayed.

So that is my gripe with it.  Even though in theory it makes sense.

But *light turns on above my head* I could probably just mind-control David and have him send Mallory home.  And if I played David and had him manage his business while Toby is visiting, he could maximize his profits and make the visit worthwhile.  Off to try it...
