51  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So anyone else not so happy about the new lifetime aspiration thing in FT? on: 2008 February 28, 18:15:04
I'm not seeing any real bonus to secondary aspiration. The motive decay differences must be quite minor. For my Knowledge-Romance, his girlfriend has started doing the ZOMG ROMANCE SIM! swoon, but he doesn't have any non-Knowledge wants. Of course, he's crammed with hobby wants (mostly sports, sports, and more sports) so they could just be getting stomped.

I am seeing some non-knowledge wants with my knowledge/pleasure sim.  He's got wants to go on a date, go to a community lot, and to juggle.  And a good thing too, since those knowledge sims are so hard to keep happy with their wanting to just sit around skilling all the time.  But then there are other sims that I'm not seeing mixed wants with.  It probably has something to do with what's going on in the household at the time too.  Like the family couple I'm playing now just had a baby grow up to toddler, so those toddler training wants are trumping everything else that might otherwise be there.
52  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So anyone else not so happy about the new lifetime aspiration thing in FT? on: 2008 February 28, 17:18:54
Well, I love the secondary aspiration, though I also wish it played some part in chemistry which it doesn't seem to.

But the new lifetime aspiration bar is very very disappointing.  I like that they earn benefit points, and the rewards they can choose from aren't bad either, but it's just the way they earn them.  Like what does a romance or pleasure sim care about getting married, having babies, or graduating college?  I thought it would count up the wants that made sense to the sim, like 10 1st dates, or 10 loves, or whatever.  This does nothing to encourage a variety of gameplay, but does the opposite instead.  Now to get their stupid points, we have to take them all through this standardized life course - graduate, get married, have kids, max career, boring, boring, boring...

I really should have known it was too good to be true.  But who knows, maybe someone awesome could mod it to be the way it should be Wink

I haven't had a chance to test it out yet though, but I was hoping that fulfilling fears would subtract lifetime points.  I don't think it does.
53  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Do veggies from sickly plants give food as much gumption as thriving ones? on: 2008 February 15, 14:19:24
Also note (and maybe you guys already know this) that it doesn't seem to make any difference if you only talk to the plant just before harvest.  I've had nearly dead plants that I talked up to thriving just before harvest, and the harvest was still mouthwatering.  They don't have to be thriving the whole time.  I also have a "talk to plants faster" mod.
54  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Did the patch really kill my BV, or was it something I did? on: 2008 February 08, 04:07:58
Hey, I didn't think anybody in the world besides me was still on that computer Smiley

I was on 640 MB RAM up until a few months ago, with all EPs.  This computer is maxed out at a gig though, which I have now, and honestly, that little upgrade hardly made any difference at all.

Ah, I probably should have been clearer about the music stutter and lag bit. Normally everything runs pretty smoothly, all crappy specs beside. It's just that since BV sometimes (or more like a lot of times) when I enter buy or build mode the music freaks out and sounds like a broken record. Then it gets all laggy and just trying to place one item or whatever becomes quite difficult. The music stutter and lag hasn't occurred during regular gameplay though.

My game does the stuttering thing too and it is not patched.  Mine is usually during gameplay though.

I also get the "application has crashed and will now terminate" crash pretty rarely, and always have rarely since the beginning.  Maybe you've just been lucky not to see it so far?  I don't know.  Speaking for myself, my computer is 5 years old now and I'm grateful the thing even boots up, let alone runs a game as demanding as Sims 2.  Sorry I don't have any more insight for you.
55  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: how do you make a makeover genetic? on: 2008 January 04, 03:22:03
Cool.  That's just what I had in mind.  Thanks!
56  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / how do you make a makeover genetic? on: 2008 January 03, 22:33:00
I'd like to makeover all my old boring townies, rather than kill them off, since I can't bear to let some of them pass on their hideousness.  How do I make it so that the new facial features are passed on in their genetics?

57  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: More house levels on: 2007 December 24, 21:19:58
Try the cheat again, and enter it on the ground level.  Go up to your highest level, and if it wont go up any further, try placing a two or three-story column.
58  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How do I break up an engagement without making them hate each other. on: 2007 December 21, 15:54:32
I just tried out Squinge's easybreakup, in light of this thread, and I couldn't get it to work with BV.  I can't remember how low the relationships needed to be, but I had testingcheats on, and slid them down pretty far with no luck.  Far enough, in fact, that the game default break up was there, and I just used that.  The game default break up DOES make them hate each other though, very much.

The best current option I know of is inteen, but had to ditch that due to conflicts.  So I'm also still looking for a good mod to accomplish this.  The couple I used were dating in high school, and wanted them to part ways mutually in college without too much animosity.  Now they hate each other.  Oh well.
59  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Basement water issues, knee deep in water. on: 2007 December 21, 15:43:30
If it's just a little bit under water, you can use "boolprop constrainfloorelevation false" to raise the whole house by a few clicks.  You'll have to redo your stairs afterwards, and your roofs too I think.  I've done this a couple times before.  Start in your basement and raise the ground until it's above sea level.  Level out the basement floor.  That should raise the upper floors accordingly, but still level off each floor just to make sure.  Then replace your modular stairs and roof.

If you're more than just a few clicks under water though, the house will look kind of silly raised that much.  You can still try it though.
60  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What do you have in your neighbourhood? on: 2007 December 21, 06:10:51
Great thread idea.  I could use some new inspiration too.

My main hood, Lakeside Heights, is an upscale suburban town.  Almost all of these I've built from scratch over the years.  There is a shopping mall, library, several themed restaurants including a jazz club, waterfront bistro, sports/billiards type restaurant/pub, coffee shop, movie theater, art gallery (showcasing art from one of my local sims), owned custom portrait shop, owned flower shop, ice rink/lodge, roller rink/club/bar, shopping plaza, metropark, public beach, public pool, public high school, cemetery, retirement village for the elders, sleazy by-the-hour motel, remodeled arcade from OFB, owned takeout and juice bar, owned clothing store/salon, owned fitness club, and owned wedding hall/resort.

My downtown is the default downtown, renamed Lake City.  It is heavily remodeled, but still has some of the original restaurants and clubs.  There are a lot of downloaded lots, mostly restaurants, clubs, and bars.  A lot of the urban-themed stuff you'll find on MTS2, like little diners, parks, and kiosks.  I've made a community college area (thanks to "upgrade pre-uni sim" on the lot debugger where my poor and academically-challenged sims can earn their degrees.  There is a residence hall, parking lot, bookstore, and main hall.  My real estate mogul sim has his company headquarters downtown, but aside from that, most of the community lots are unowned.

My uni is Sim State University, also heavily remodeled.  I ditched the shops since they were too bulky and inefficient, and made my own smaller shops.  There is a pub, and a nightclub/restaurant.

My Bluewater Village is a rural farming town.  There is a church, grocery store, owned farm and fresh fish shop, and very few leftover OFB community lots.  Mostly just small-town houses with lots of land.

I have a lot more than I even realized until typing it all up, and I'm sure I've left some stuff out.  (I've been at this neighborhood for almost two years now.)  I've also started remodeling all of the vacation 'hoods too.  I just can't leave anything alone Wink
61  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: disappearing dorm objects in regular rooms on: 2007 December 19, 14:43:59
No, not the same sims.  But I've built this dorm from scratch, and I've put many generations of sims through it because it's so perfect for a freshman dorm, which probably explains why it's finally gone so wonky.  That gives me a good idea though.  I should probably put a fresh copy of all my favorite dorms in the lot bin, just in case something like this happens.

But for now, I seem to have solved the problem by moving them all out, and back in again.  Solved at least until I decide to mess around with the walls again, which wont be for a while, I hope.

62  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: disappearing dorm objects in regular rooms on: 2007 December 19, 04:16:57
Right, that's what I was doing before I ever turned it to residential.  I remodeled it while still in dorm mode, and that's when everything went wrong.  I only turned it back to residential to see if I could get my stuff back.
63  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / disappearing dorm objects in regular rooms on: 2007 December 18, 21:10:42
I can't figure out how to fix this.  I knocked down a couple of dorm rooms and turned one into a workout room, and knocked down another to expand a bathroom.  I have deleted the dorm Myne doors and replaced them with regular doors, but still, all the objects disappear inside the rooms where the old dorm rooms were.  I've remodeled my dorms for as long as I can remember, and I've never run into this problem before.  And even stranger is that I knocked down two other dorm rooms to also expand a different bathroom, and add a computer lab, but the objects in those rooms are just fine.

Here is what I've tried so far:

- Changed the lot zoning to residential and back to dorm again.  The objects showed up when in residential, but disappeared again when changed back to dorm.
- Knocked down an outside wall, which brought the objects back.  As soon as I replaced the wall, the objects disappeared again.  If I knock down an inside wall to another room, even more stuff disappears.
- I have also placed walls to divide up the problem rooms into subsections, and I have found precisely what seem to be the troubled areas.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

ETA: I've since managed to mess it up even worse by deleting and redrawing walls.  Now I've got the workout room and bathroom visible, but the whole main living area, including staircases to the upstairs level have disappeared, and I can't even get them back in residential zoning.  Yet, all the stuff is still there because I get the "can't intersect other objects" message any time I try to place something.
64  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Idea: "Arousal" meter on: 2007 December 18, 19:13:35
It's fairly common for women to lose their sex drive after giving birth. It doesn't always happen though.

True, I would say just in the baby stage though.

Another idea to throw out there, if the sim is tired or stinky or uncomfortable, it should lower their arousal meter.  They could even reject advances if the arousal meter is empty.  How funny would this be - you've got a stay-at-home sim wife, who is stinky and tired and has been running after toddlers all day, and the sim husband comes home and tried to put the moves on (thanks to ACR), and he gets a big fat reject, and maybe even a lecture too Smiley
65  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Jagged line talk balloon on: 2007 December 17, 19:45:31
... aside from "so and so slept with your wife!" type of situations.

Has anyone ever had anything come of this?  Say your sim did gossip to another sim that his wife was cheating, what would happen?  Anything?

I delete all gossip every once in a while too.  It does do wonders for file sizes, and in turn, load times Smiley
66  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How to get rid of the cow mascot costume in the main hood? on: 2007 December 17, 13:39:02
There's also the noadultmascots by Squinge, still working in my game with BV: http://files.sims2graveyard.com/squinge/nomore_stuff/

67  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Community Wedding... POST BV on: 2007 December 11, 13:44:46
Just so you know, that Squinge community weddings hack has nothing to do with the wedding party, just the wedding ceremony itself.  The community parties hack was a different one that unfortunately stopped working a long time ago.  I use Monique's computer to invite friends and family to the lot for the ceremony.

On a side note though, I still have never been able to cut a wedding cake on a community lot.  I've heard people say they've done it though.  The only option I get on the cake is to clean it up.  Has anyone here ever managed it?
68  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Community Wedding... POST BV on: 2007 December 10, 20:07:44
Well, it comes up on HCDU as conflicting, but I played with them both in for a long time without problems.  I recently had to ditch inteen though, because it wasn't playing nicely with noinstantloves (a tough choice!), and was preventing my YAs from getting engaged, but I'm pretty sure that problem didn't have to do with the community weddings mod.
69  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Teen Prom -- what hacks can make this happen? on: 2007 December 10, 02:02:46
Seriously, try again with Monique's computer: http://www.modthesims2.com/member/showthread.php?t=64137

Select email... Invitation eCard.  It's so much easier than teleporting.  You'll get a menu to select anyone your teen has ever met, and they WILL show up regardless of how well your teen knows them.  I would still leave the VC on the lot, just so that you don't have to worry so much about curfew.  I don't know how late it is, maybe 11pm instead of 9pm?  And if you fill up your lot with teens, and maybe use the mind-control mirror or something to make sure they're happy, so they don't leave, then you won't even have many adults show up.  I usually have a couple adults show up, and about 10 teens.  I just pretend the adults are chaperones Wink

And use Inge's formal pigalle doors for changing: http://www.simlogical.com/sl/Sims2Pages/Sims2_Doors_ClothesChange.htm  Put one from every room to the next, especially if you have a pool or hot tub on the lot.  Everybody changes into formal - they don't have a choice.

It will work better, I promise!

70  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Community Wedding... POST BV on: 2007 December 09, 17:51:01
My sims have only been able to get married on community lots with Squinge's Community Weddings hack (last updated 5/21/07).  It is still working in BV, and I have had 2 beach weddings (twikki island), one downtown wedding, one base neighborhood owned community lot wedding, and one home wedding since installing BV - so that pretty much covers all the different scenarios.  All worked fine, but only with the hack in place.  Without the hack, there are no options available when you try to click on the arch.

I'm not sure if that one is at the graveyard.  I can upload it if you can't find it.

71  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Inge's age duration hack: how to modify? on: 2007 December 06, 18:58:53
Birene, also remember that this hack only changes the ages for NEW sims that are created or born.  All of your existing sims will remain just as they were.  Have you tried it yet with a new sim?
72  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: getting engaged while on vacation? on: 2007 December 03, 22:30:47
Hmmm, nevermind.  I think I've found the problem and it involves un-awesomeness.  I should have thought to check that first.  You can throw kitty macros at me if you want.
73  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / getting engaged while on vacation? on: 2007 December 02, 03:28:06
I currently have a bunch of uni Sims on spring break on Twikkii Island, and I'd like to have one of them propose to his girlfriend.  I haven't had any problems proposing marriage on Twikkii Island before, but this is the first time I've wanted a sim to get engaged.  There was no "propose" option for a regular proposal or sitting at a table.  Has anyone tried this yet?
74  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Teen Prom -- what hacks can make this happen? on: 2007 December 01, 22:03:05
I've been doing proms for a while.  I have a public high school community lot with a decorated gym.  I usually get my teens together with their friends at about 5 or 6pm, while it's still light outside and take pictures in the yard.  Ah, fun! Smiley

#1 - I use Monique's computer, the option for the email invitation card.  You can invite, all at once, anyone your sim has ever met and they will show up regardless of the relationship.
#2 - Visitor Controller
#3 - I use the formal pigalle doors by Inge, I think?  They change as soon as they walk through them.  I haven't tried the force formal option on the VC though yet.  That might work better.
#4 - hmmm, don't know about that one.

You also need to worry about curfew if you don't have the VC.  Before I got that, I had to keep resetting the hour to 7pm, because I wanted it to be dark, but only had two hours before they would leave at 9pm.  They stay later with the VC.

75  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: high texture detail, crappy clothes details on: 2007 November 16, 23:47:37
This happens to me sometimes too.  Usually when there's a lot going on, or I'm playing a big or crowded lot, or if I try to use a bigger view distance.  I think it's the graphics card downgrading a little because it can't handle it all.  Mine goes back to normal though as soon as I load a less demanding lot.
