TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Disappearing sims...

Last time I tried to play my custom hood it wouldn't load so I decided to reinstall and see if that fixed anything. After a bunch of trouble getting the expansion packs and the patches to install, I tried to load it again. It took a long time (10-20 minutes, it's usually less than 1 minute or 2) and after it did I noticed that some of the apartments where my sims had been living were now marked as non-occupied and that the sims were nowhere to be seen. I noticed that I could make some of the missing sims appear on lots using a teleporter or the phone, and thought that maybe I could just sent them to the sim bin and move then back to their houses, but then noticed that there were sims that where nowhere to be seen. Not in the memory tree of their family members, not in SimPe in the Sim Browser, nowhere.
Can this hood still be saved somehow? If not, is there a safe way to at least clone the terrain as it is now, decoration, lots, etc?
Thanks in advance and sorry about any mistakes in my English ( not my mother language).
Yes, you can use HoodReplace to clone the terrain and copy the roads, deco, trees, etc. from an existing neighborhood to a brand new neighborhood: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=279992There's a thread here at MATY which discusses how to make these changes manually: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,151.0.htmlThere is also a way to copy the lots, let me try to find you a link to some instructions. [Update:] Well, I thought that I'd written something up, but I can't seem to find it. Here's a tutorial which uses a similar technique: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=275135Basically, you need to copy the lot packages and then copy the Lot Description (LTXT) from one neighborhood package to the other. Since you don't want to change the lot numbers (instances) or locations (height, width, z), it's pretty simple. Note that you can't use this technique on apartments. Another alternative is to place all of the lots into the lot catalog and then place them by hand: http://community.livejournal.com/thesims2/6049797.html

This month's lot is "Friendly Firmament - 2BR 1.5BA" from the Apartment Life lot bin. Because this one was started late, you've got a month and a half to finish it. If you don't have Apartment Life, I've remade the lot to be base-game compatible. Because there are no spiral stairs in the base game, I've replaced them with standard modular stairs instead. Lot edges are flat. Rules, cut and pasted from last month: 1. No CC. Please indicate expansion and stuff packs so people who wish to download your lot know what to expect. Pictures are required, either available for download, on a slideshow, or posted in this thread. 2. By entering this challenge, you agree to take constructive criticism. If you wish to judge someone else's entry, you should be respectful but honest. 3. Your lot does not have to be Awesomespec, although it is encouraged. 4. You may move internal walls and add external walls but you may NOT move original external walls. 5. Lots may be furnished, unfurnished, or partially furnished. You can even upload both furnished and unfurnished versions. Monthly rules: 6. Bonus points if you can keep the hilly terrain and vegetation.

Hmmm... we'd have to use a different staircase, since those spiral stairs aren't available in the base game. Perhaps just build without stairs and let people decide which ones they want to use and where to put them.
Otherwise, it looks very do-able. What's that light brown thing above the counter in the kitchen?

I'm really annoyed that JM is forcing us to patch up to use AM. For the love of heavy machinery, please leave a link somewhere with the old versions of AM. You could throw them on your MTS account or something.
Are they cupping your balls, Pescado? Why are you sleeping with the enemy?
There is a good reason that JM is only supplying one version and it has nothing to do with "sleeping with the enemy". It's almost impossible for one person to support multiple versions of a core mod like AwesomeMod. If he gives people access to older versions, he'll get lots more outdated bug reports and requests for new features that have already been implemented in the newest version and demands for removal of the expiry date. Why would he want that kind of hassle? If I could think of a good solution to these problems, I'd be willing to upload (unsupported) older versions for every patch level.

Wait a minute, one last thing. When you are in the AweConfig tool, are you clicking on the Green Tyrannosaurus Rex logo to generate the file? Because I'm not so sure that the "Generate" button really does generate a file. I always click on the icon and it works.
Either method works.

I've done a bit more research on this... issue. I just made a new neighborhood, from riverview. I bulldozed all the EA residential lots and replaced them with all custom lots. then moved all the fugly townies back into the neighborhood in their new custom lots. I let it run for a few generations, and it seemed to work fine, sims procreated and moved about the neighborhood as they seen fit. So just out of curiosity, I placed 3 EA houses in the neighborhood. Within 2 days all three of them were filled. It was that same bizarre swarming response. Weird. Oh well. At least I sort of figured out how to get sims to move into custom homes. I just have to utterly wipe out every EA house in the neighorhood. lol.
Clearly, sims prefer EA to TSR. Those TSR houses must be really horrible.

Was there anything used in the original lot that would cause issues installing into a setup that does not have that expansion? I would prefer not to use the basegame version.
I used AnyGameStarter with TSS (and nothing else) to flatten the lot. Use the base-game lot with EPs up through OFB. Use the TSS lot for EPs from Pets on.

Not the Sims. I moved the Sims out. Just the furnished lot left behind (I have that hacked shrub that lets furniture stay when Sims leave). So is just the lot safe?
Sorry, I didn't read your previous post quite right. Yes, packaging an unoccupied lot should be safe.
