51  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Spontaneous Combustion on: 2008 January 18, 05:53:53
Looking through your list, I noticed you have the firemod, if you don't want anymore inexplicable fires, I suggest you remove that mod.   Wink
why? the firemod has nothing to do with starting fires
Quote
Firemod:
Sims will no longer moth fires when panicking when something catches fire. Sims
that are have seen more than one fire before will attempt to extinguish it
rather than panicking. Visitors finding your house to be on fire will
immediately declare this to be somebody else's problem and find an urgent and
pressing interest in being elsewhere, rather than going into aspirational
failure....after all, why should they care...unless they are on FIRE?
It could be outdated

No it isn't outdated. The screenshot shows the date last modified, Feb 28, 2007. That's the date modifed listed for the firemod in the hack directory.

I only see the cover art, no link to more. I wouldn't mind some matching kitchen and bathroom stuff. What's the bet they still don't make matching sets of anything?

There's also a lot of text (I copypasted so errors are EAxis' fault, not mine):

Maybe because EAxis hasn't made an annoucement yet? Probably waiting for the Free Time EP to come out, so they can make their pretty fliers to put in there.

Does EA Thailand count for anything?
54  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Wardrobe Wrangler Released! on: 2008 January 17, 03:55:54
I only put mods and objects in /downloads, because clothes/hair/etc don't show up in my game if I don't put them in /savedsims (also that's where body shop put the package; I made the eyes).

The phrasing of this sentence leads me to believe that your downloads folder is actually typed as "downloads". If you don't use a capital D (as in Downloads) you'd have problems with bodyshop content showing up in game.
55  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Wardrobe Wrangler Released! on: 2008 January 16, 04:37:41
What exactly is TSR spyware? Is there anything executable inside a package file?  Huh

I would also like to know more about this.

Before I say anything on this I must make it very, very clear that I do not know all of the details and everything that I do know I've heard second hand from various sources including but not limited to PSMD. So take this with a grain of salt. As I understand it, they tag their downloads in an attempt to catch the downloaders who are handing over their files to the booty. IIRC, Pescado figured this out and changed the tags to read something along the lines of "PIRATESPWN". Or maybe it was all just a crazy, vivid dream. Wink
56  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Tutorial: Clean custom neighborhoods and Townie creation (Updated for BV) on: 2008 January 14, 01:30:43
Batch creation will lead to a balanced neighbourhood setup, but your townies will not have any custom clothes or make-up. They will use the default facial templates (or overrides, if any) and default name list.

That is misleading. The DEFAULT behavior is that your batch generated townies will not use custom content (other than default replacements of course) but you can decustomize custom content to make it townie available. My batch created townies use custom eyes, clothes, and even accessories. Theo explains how to do this here. He explains this process for skintones, but I've tried it with other types of CC and it works just fine. It's sort of funny because it doesn't actually work quite right with skin, actually. It will roll up in CAS as a random selection, and game spawned NPCs or gun spawned NPCs will use these skins, but regular townies don't seem to be able to use anything other than the 4 regular options (or default replacements if you have them, obviously). When I first tried this I had never used SimPE before and I figured it out with no problems because it is incredibly easy (although annoying and incredibly time consuming). I'm not sure, but Jfade's Wardrobe Wrangler might have an automated way of doing this, but I can't really remember if I just made that up or if it's true.

Of course, they still won't have makeup (even Maxis makeup) but it's easy enough to give them makeovers yourself. You can use Dizzy's change-appearance-anyone (available in his brain dump thread in Peasantry) to give a visitor a makeover. If I want a townie to have makeup I just click the mirror while that sim is on the lot, put the make up on, and then let it go on its merry way.
57  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Sims reverting to previous 'landmarks' on: 2008 January 14, 01:03:56
Debug mode doesn't cause errors; it reports them when they occur. I use the multiple PT hack and I also turn debug mode on with my userstartup.cheat so it is on every time I play. I agree with Kyna's assessment; you probably set your hood folders to read only by mistake.

Another thing, you should poke around this site for awhile and read everything that you can, especially in the war room. You've already messed up your hood by deleting sims from the family bin. This is NOT the cause of your current problem, and you probably won't see any problems for a little while, but in a few weeks or months (depending on how often you play, how lucky you are, and how many bad things you've unintentionally done to your game) you will see problems. One problem that you may see is toddlers with inappropriate wants (woohoo in bed, get a job, etc.). I can't even begin to list all of the damaging things that you can do to your game if you don't know any better, but I know that you can find this information by reading the site because that's how I learned this stuff. If you really just don't want the Maxis made sims to appear in the sim bin when you create a new hood you can look in Peasantry for SaraMK's clean and empty templates thread. She explains how to use the templates very clearly using simple, non-technical terms, and I feel confident that even someone with limited computer experience could follow the instructions with ease.

Finally, you should check out the armory and the firing range and get at the very least the hacks that JM lists as critical or important. Some of these hacks will prevent damaging things from happening to your game (Vampire and Werewolf Fixes springs to mind). If you haven't already, make sure that you read the Guide to MATY stickied in the Podium.

He reminds me of a girl I went to school with. I was only nice to her because she let me come to her house and play on the Sims (1) for hours when my mum still thought computer games were like viruses and would kill your machine if you had more than one installed at a time.

What an asshole thing to say. "Heh heh, I was nice to the fat girl because she let me use her toys. Heh. I r funnie!" You really should reconsider bragging about this sort of behavior.

60  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Gentrific fireplace is crashing my game? on: 2008 January 11, 02:12:23
This reminds me of a problem that my boyfriend had with his game. He was playing Nightlife, and then he decided to install OFB. He started having the game crash to desktop when he moved certain items using build mode OR the inventory. This happened with a clean downloads folder (and of course I'd already set his objects.package files to read only, so it wasn't a corruption issue). We decided that his computer just couldn't handle OFB, so we just uninstalled it and let him play nightlife. If he wants to play with all EPs he can always just use my machine anyway. I know that's probably not very helpful, but I searched high and low for an answer to this problem and I couldn't find it.
61  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Plantsims on: 2008 January 06, 05:57:46
I don't think that they mean the Jordi lot full of sims hack. I had macrotastics errors, too, but the more sims per lot hack that I was using was by 5th Lmnt on MTS2. It is called LargerHouseholdsEP4. I'm not sure if this is the hack that others were having problems with, but when I pulled it my plantsim macrotastics errors went away.
62  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: If I add on a vacation neighborhood with the BV no townie generation hack... on: 2008 January 04, 02:31:52
The thing I'm concerned about is that as far as I know, this hack doesn't stop Sims in areas like Downtown from being added to the game, and I'm not sure if vacation people work more like townies or downtownies.

The vacation locals come with the templates for the three vacation hoods. If you use clean templates for them, you won't get the vacation townies.

Right, the original set won't get created without the templates, but you need notownieregen to prevent new ones from being created (for example, I wanted to custom create my vacation locals so that they would all look ethnically like they were from the area they were supposed to be from, and with this combo I was able to do so).

Is there a new notownieregen that stops tourists from spawning? I got the one from BV Director's Cut and I still see a few running around. And I did cleanse the templates first.

As jsalemi mentioned above, first you need the empty vacation templates to prevent the default set of tourists from being created. To be honest, I forget which noregen hack prevents new tourists from being created, but I'd guess that it's just regular old notownieregen. I don't have any tourists and I've played two vacations. I had this idea that it would be neat for my sims to go to a vacation without any tourists and then over several generations I will create more tourists so that this previously undiscovered vacation spot will gradually become a tourist trap.
63  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: If I add on a vacation neighborhood with the BV no townie generation hack... on: 2008 January 03, 06:45:29
Antiredundency won't have any impact on downtownies, but notownieregen will prevent new downtownies/vacation sims from being created (it allows only one vacation local per attached vacation destination to be created). If you're talking about the tour guide and the pickpocket then antiredundancy will prevent extras from being created.
64  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: If I add on a vacation neighborhood with the BV no townie generation hack... on: 2008 January 03, 05:51:15
If you want to create custom townies follow the directions (and follow the links in this thread, they are useful!) from this thread. If you want to start your hood with NO townies or NPCs use empty/cleaned out templates and of course Pescado's hacks (notownieregen, antiredundancy, nodormieregen, nossrespawn, and nostrayrespawn, I think that's all of the ones that restict the game's ability to create non-playables). With this combination you should be able to create a hood without any useless, unnecessary characters.

66  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Deleted 2: Electric Boogaloo! on: 2008 January 02, 05:55:12
Yes, we have cleverly hidden all of our TS2 knowledge by publishing it publicly on the internet for anyone to search, access, and learn from freely. It is wrong of me to expect people to read that information. I have contributed to this knowledge base and helped other players whenever I had the pertinent information or technical ability. When I arrived at this forum I had never used a hack, I had never heard of FFS or Pescado, and I knew nothing about the information available here. I had only played the game. What you are expected to do at MATY, and what most of us have done, is to use the search button, to look through the forums, and most importantly to read the FAQ before expecting others to hand you everything that you want. I didn't just magically know all about hacks so I read everything I could find. I took the time and energy to learn.

Actually, by explaining a little bit about MATY culture and linking you to our site guide I am helping you once again. One of the two unofficial MATY mottos is "lurk moar". That means spend some time and take some initiative to try to figure things out on your own. Looking around the site would be a good first step. Familiarize yourself with your surroundings. If you think that I'm horrible just wait until you see Retardo Land; the second MATY motto is "Moar Fight".
67  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Deleted 2: Electric Boogaloo! on: 2008 January 02, 04:25:21
There are several people, like Ethendrelle, who seem interested in helping people to a degree, so clearly not everyone here is a prick. There is a lot of useful information and resources here so I'd like to stick around. That will be more pleasant if I ignore people like you, since I can already see that you aren't helpful. I would suggest that you consider doing the inverse.

Lord Darcy was helpful. What makes you think I ignored him? Don't act like you know everything.

I used some (not even terribly harsh) sarcasm in response to your statement that you thought that it would be okay to just ignore possible problems with your game. It was far from the meanest thing that I've seen on this site. In response you called me an asshole. It seems to me that you overreacted and got unnecessarily mean pretty quickly. My second response to you was calm and I didn't get personal or swear at you except in direct reference to the term you used on me. I at no time called you a bitch or asshole. You respond by insulting me and calling me useless. That doesn't really make a lot of sense to me, in fact, it seems as if you have been the one who's behavior is out of line.

Also, do you remember when I helped you earlier in this thread?

Starting from scratch isn't what I meant by "able to play my neighborhood again". I meant the neighborhood I put a lot of work into before Bon Voyage came and fuckt it up.

Here are your options; either figure out how to use Deleted 2, restore to a pre-BV backup copy of the neighborhood (before the unwanted characters were added), or delete your neighborhood and start over.
68  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Deleted 2: Electric Boogaloo! on: 2008 January 02, 01:09:28
Well I'm glad you replied in addition to invisigoth because I don't speak asshole.

I'll definitely heed your advices, and I really appreciate the thorough warning and suggestions. Thanks.

You came in here whining and complaining because you don't like the information that we're providing you with either because it's too difficult or not what you want to hear. Lord Darcy already mentioned that you've ruined your hood and you totally ignored that useful warning. Excuse me for pointing it out in a way that I thought you would be capable of understanding. This website is full of useful TS2 information that you chose to ignore. You want us to do everything for you, and we don't coddle the lazy or stupid here. You said that you've already realized that MATY is not a nice, cuddly place, so start acting like it. If you get butthurt this easily you'll never survive here.

Furthermore, I speak bitch, not asshole.
69  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Deleted 2: Electric Boogaloo! on: 2008 January 01, 23:21:07
Well I got the lot debugger, figured it out after a while, and got the Witch Doctor deleted out of my neighborhood properly.

Game runs great now.

Yeah there probably is some level of corruption but if it's not affecting my game play, I can ignore it.

Thanks those of you who offered useful info.

And Mr. Pescado, that Lot Debugger is a damn fine device. Good work there. Just putting it in my lot made it run a bit better.

Yeah, that's a great idea. Get really involved in that hood, play it for another generation or two, make sure that you care deeply about the sims so that it will be all the more crushing when the corruption starts to show. But when it eventually blows up don't come crying to us asking for a fix. The fact that it's still (apparently) functioning doesn't mean that it isn't already dead.
70  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: More Sims in a lot.... on: 2008 January 01, 22:23:41
Do you really need a "hack"?

Why don't you just move them in by the teleporter painting or inges shrub?

It worked for me.

So that sims can continue to have babies after you reach the maximum number of sims per lot.
71  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My cat ran away on: 2008 January 01, 19:17:51
A suggestion: You could try playing other families, since the pet may walk by their house, and then befriend it, adopt it, and give it back to the original owner.
I had a stupid family of wolf breeders once, they had a mother wolf, father wolf and four puppies. As soon as the puppies grew into adulthood they started to chase their father until he ran away. I had given him a collar and immediately reported him missing... and after some days I got a call that the police had found him and if I wanted him back. The same time the policecar arrived everybody got a bad memory and I realized father wolf had just died :O
So the car drove away again, I didn't even get a gravestone. Never tried to breed wolves again Tongue

When you're trying to breed pets it's best to keep them locked in a fenced in area. When you have a lot of pets hanging around chances are that they will fight and one or more will try to run away. If they're locked into a pen or back yard (with APO denying them access through the house and thus to the street) they will attempt to run away and when it fails the "run away" icon will disappear and your pet will still be right where it's supposed to be (in the pen). IMO, this is the only way to keep your sanity while attempting to run a pet breeding lot.

73  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Please help with neighborhood & EP installations on: 2007 December 28, 09:41:41
Thank you! Is there a way to safely import my characters (all 66 of them) from my current DAC'ed neighborhood into the new one? That would include even all the NPCs they've interacted with - a few shopkeepers, maids, the principal of the private school and some deliverypeople if I remember correctly. Or would that be also a big no-no?

That's generally a VBT. I've heard people say that there are methods to do it safely (as you said moving every sim that's ever interacted with any of the other sims) but I've also heard Pescado say that things can still get FUBARed when trying this. You can clone the sims that you want to keep using simPE's sim surgery (then reclone using body shop before putting them into your game), but that will only clone their appearance. If you want their personalities, interests, turn ons and turn offs, and aspirations to be the same you'll need to write that all down. You won't be able to recover their memories. Unless you're really invested in these sims I wouldn't even bother, but that's obviously your call.
74  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Please help with neighborhood & EP installations on: 2007 December 26, 00:39:38
Jordi wrote a really helpful tutorial on creating a clean custom hood, here. Zarkan wrote another useful tutorial that will teach you how to decustomize custom content so that townies can be created with custom eyes, clothes, etc. You can find that one here.
75  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: "Windows has low virtual memory - increasing memory, applications denied" - help on: 2007 December 23, 06:43:06
You could also change your virtual memory paging file to be static instead of dynamic. This means that it will be one size all the time instead of getting bigger and smaller "as needed". I think that windows doesn't really handle this process very well, so I made mine a lot bigger and I made it static. You can follow the very simple directions (with pictures) at Paladin's website, just click "tutorials" and then "Windows XP Game Optimization Tips" and scroll down until you see "Tip #5: Change your paging file to be permanent and the correct size." Paladin explains in clear and easy to understand language what the paging file does and why changing to a static paging file is a good idea.
