How many ambulance drivers do you know who go on to become Hospital Chief of Staff?
One time I was at a hospital and I ran into an ex boyfriend. He was working in the cafeteria. He told me all about his plan to work his way up from flipping burgers to being Hospital Administrator. Dude, I got news for you... Man am I glad he's my ex.

Situations like this make me really hope that they carry through with that expansion they mentioned as a possibility in the survey, one where you might be able to build your own furniture or do something else like that, something productive for sims with max skills and such. I hope that rumor that was squashed turns out to be true, the farming expansion. Or other things that can be a hobby, not just painting and novel writing. I know they mentioned making jewelery.

Go hang out at community lots, make some poolhalls or something. Throw lots of parties. Invite all of your friends over for your sim to paint their portraits. Let him wander around on free will and see what he does. Have him have kids and actually spend time with his family instead of just everyone studing or something. Get a new job from the newspaper (lower than computer) and work his way to the top of all the career laders. Have him chat on the computer until he meets everyone in the neighborhood. Woohoo all the service people, then invite all of them over at the same time and see if through chatting with each other, they figure out that you're the new town bike.

If adults know the kids, they can invite them, but beware of having the party after school, as by the time it's under way, all the kids parents turn up and take the poor things home! If you want kids at the party, best to use Aging off to control that the kid grows up at the week-end, so you can have the party in the afternoon. (Oh, the adults must actually be friends with the kids, or they probably won't show up.)
Yeah, see that's what I don't like. Though really, now that I think about it, it is more realistic that way. I wasn't really allowed to pick my own guests until I was a teen. So I guess it does make sense, I just don't like the thought of adults befriending children. They should like them, but not be really close to their kids friends, it's kind of creepy. Especially if the kids then grow up and the adults suddenly want to flirt with them.

You oughta treat yourself to an LCD screen. It's lighter, chugs less power, has much less footprint on the desktop, stays nice and sharp, and it's kinder on the eyes. What's not to like? Bwahaha! My budget is fifty dollars! and I won't even have that for over a month! The good news is, if you don't care about footprints, weight or power, you can get a used 21" NEC or Viewsonic for around $150 to $200 and kiss screen size and blurry issues goodbye. Not only that, but it gives new life to old games. Like Sims 1. Which is how I got started playing it again a couple of months before Sims 2 came out. Hook Meh, my plan is the local computer geek's most recent used monitor deal. I can't wait for the new peice of crap either, this one turns itself off when it gets too warm. I fixed the house. No it wasn't overflow issues, since I just reset all of my neighborhoods. I fixed it by reseting them again, since I only lost about three days of gameplay. I think it may have been the meshes, I didn't use them this time. Then again, that's like saying someone spit on me when I was wearing red shoelaces, and today I wore blue ones instead, and no one spit on me, so red shoelaces make someone spit on you. Anyway, problem solved (except my crappy monitor, pathetic budget, and the fact that the damn kid won't go to bed properly.)

I have a suggestion. Being a little bored, I decided to play the way I used to. You know, actually celebrating birthdays and weddings with parties, silly stuff like that. Well anyway, unless I'm totally missing something, it would be nice if a child can throw her own party and invite her guests. I got a kid (right now, alt tabbed actually) who is about to have a party, she has three little friends who would love to come over, and since the adults barely know the kids (and might not even be able to invite children), she has to be stuck having her parents invite their own friends over. A bunch of stuffy adults at a child's birthday party, man what fun. Come to think of it, can adults invite kids? I guess it would also be cool if they befriended kids and invited them to a toddler's birthday, so the toddler has new friends to make after the transition.

When I let them paint the easel paintings, and they have 10 in creativity, i get one of 4 paintings out of it. A very depressed picasso face, a blue forrest, a red sunddown, or a bunch of stripes diagonally and horizontally. And thats it. The kids paintings are what my sims do for practice, untill they reach creativity 10.
The face is Will Wright, I beleive. There is also a pic of clowns, I wish I didn't get that one.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / All sims have too many interactions...

I recently reset my neighborhoods, and moved the Summerdream family into their new house. With free will on, they seem to decide to do something, and then jump a little. I turned on the testing cheat, and got a ton of "too many interactions" errors. Looking at them, I saw something with a bed involved, so I thought it might be a custom mesh I downloaded, but then I saw that a lot of other Maxis items were involved, and I've never had that problem with the bed before, I've used it a lot. It's the only custom mesh in the house. I love the house, please tell me this is fixable without bulldozing it.

Well, if it lets you view the outline of meshes that will help me out since I suspect I have a few untextured meshes in my game. If you right click on an entry, and you've told it to go ahead and connect to the Sims2 Official site, it'll tell you what stuff you got this from if it's on the Exchange. Pretty useless unless you really want to send nasty emails to the person who gave you that SimstransmitSTDs Hack. This is a joke right? Cause if it is... I think I have a hack request I want to make... If I tell you it's a joke, you'll request it. If I tell you it's not a joke you'll want to know where to get it. So I am going to remain discreetly silent. grrr to you.

It's late, and my monitor is going screwy, so have you mentioned wether or not you have diagonal walls? I have a problem with no food options appearing except for instant meal and juggle if there is a diagonal wall in the path between the sim and the fridge.

I have also noticed that there seems to be some correlation between mood and paintig quality. Not sure how much, and I'd have to get more data before I can verify it, but it does seem to have an effect.
The main thing that affects it, after you hit Max Creativity, is the "masterpeice skill" which is basically a semi-open ended creativity skill that applies only to paintings. The more paintings you paint, the more money you can sell them for. Prima says the cap is 4,500, but that would take ages to hit.
Yeah, I saw that in the guide the other day. Soon I will make an immortal sim either one who has earned the cow plant (and will therefore double as my townie cleaner since I just reset my 'hood and the annoying ones are back), or a zombie. I look forward to the very appropriate highly gothic vampire artist who will naturally reach this goal.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So what is an overpopulated neighborhood anyway?
|

Somewhat related question, guess I'll put it here rather than a new thread. I've been wondering why I had so many characters really. I don't actually play that much, and reinstalled a few months ago when I reformatted. So, I figured out why I have so many sims to begin with. My lovely toddler (nearing three) now knows how to click icons with the mouse. He made a new University town in Pleasantview, and since I only wanted one, I deleted it. All of the sims that came in that sim bin are now in the Sim State sim bin. All the dessert Uni town ones that is. So apparently the game makes it so that rather than behaving like a deleted neighborhood, any sims in your bin will be transferred to the existing neighborhood bin. Or something like that, maybe they were in the bin before the Uni town was deleted, I didn't check. Anyway, were all the created dormies and students also transferred? I don't mind the new sim students, more genetics and whatnot, but the thought of extra professors cluttering up stuff and never being used gives me chills. My house is a mess, but I keep my computer clean. How do I check? I'm an idiot with SimPe, and never even figured out how to find un met baristas to delete.

Ahh the sensation of releif. I hated having to replace all my coffee bars with juice bars. How the hell can you have a bohemian art major sim go for a group study session on a community lot WITOUT COFFEE!! It's insane, I tell you!!!

My Pleasantview has 380 charecters, I know there are a few extra baristas in there before I removed all coffee bars from community lots. Other than that, it's just the premade sims, and their children. My custom neighborhood (currently empty, where I build lots) has 197, I see some Uni snapshots there so maybe I did give the 'hood a school... Man, I might have more baristas than I thought, I only have a few kids born since I don't have a lot of time to play the game and I had a reformat a couple of months ago. Anyway, what's the critical point where I should be seeing if my preventive hacks are working?

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Can't fufill "Graduate 3 Children" want?
|
on: 2005 July 18, 01:28:15
|
So I just graduated Alexander Goth's three kids, with 4.0 averages to boot, and his lifetime want isn't fufilling. I even invited all the kids over and had them talk to him for a bit, and I saved and exited and reloaded the house. Nothing. Is it because they moved into their own houses afterwards, instead of moving in with him, or because they didn't throw a party, just moved out with their phones, some kind of bug (probably) or is it a hack problem? I have most Flying Fish hacks, and some of twojeff's, but the only one I can think of that might conflict would be no20k, since it would affect some kind of a check when they graduate and go into the bin, I think. I have the box that allows you to change lifetime wants, but it's never even been placed in Alex's house, though one of the kids that graduated used it once. Or twice.
