The napkin holder comes with ketchup, mustard, salt, and pepper.

So it is the knowledge book not the bookcase that gives the boost, right? So if a sim went to put a book back on the case and a cat was sitting in front of it and the book was put on the floor, then the book was put into the sim's inventory, that book can now be given to a non-edumacation-bookshelf-having-family and that family will recieve the bonus?
Hey, can those books be sold?

Practice safe eating:  use condiments!
I don't know wether to laugh or groan. I think groan.
Say, on a related note, anyone know of some custom table deco for when you're bored with the little lamps and condiments?
29  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Kitty Condo on: 2007 April 27, 16:21:08
Maybe it's just a case of too much realism?

My cat has the entire sofa to herself, and she chooses to sleep on the floor, on top of a pile that includes an empty plastic grocery bag, my notebook, about six pairs of my husband's dirty socks (ech!) and a can of compressed air.

Who really knows why cats sleep where they do?  Cheesy
I think so too. I'm actually shocked that the cats play with the cat toys or sleep in the pet beds at all. And I've had my sim cats sleep on the kitty condo, just not often.
Exactly. Of my 2 cats, one prefers to sleep on my pillows on the bed while I'm not using them. When I am, he finds the rug in front of the computer perfect - even though there's a house full of fluffy comfortable chairs/sofas and a gigantic fluffy dog-pillow (which the dogs don't use either mind you).
The other prefers either the top of my dresser or the tiny crack of space under the stereo/entertainment cabinet.
Wow, your cat lets you have the pillow to yourself? No wrapping around your head action?

Hey, you know what hack we need for realism? Something that makes the cats seek the most expensive object that is not a pet bed, and that is what they sleep on. Especially rugs. I'll never forget Luv Bug and my mom's antique rug hunting spurt. Every new rug was in the house about 3 min before a fat cat was right in the middle, fast asleep.
30  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help, my game asploded! on: 2007 April 27, 16:15:06
Well I still have a broken cd drive (will until this weekend or so), but the cracked .exe hasn't caused any issues and much complaining at Walmart did land me a new copy.
31  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help, my game asploded! on: 2007 April 20, 20:35:21
Actually my plan for replacing the cd is something along the lines of "My mom gave me this game last weekend and I don't have the receipt 'cause she didn't give it to me, but look, there's only one cd in it!"
Say, syber, can you say that again, in a dummies version? Aspifically this: You could then use ASR or sd4hider.
32  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help, my game asploded! on: 2007 April 20, 16:08:09
Thanks! Yeah, I'm replacing the drive. It's still under warranty. The tech guy looked and looked for something about cds exploding but didn't find anything so he said "So what you're telling me is the cd is stuck and the drive won't open it for you to get it out." so I said "Sure." and he said "Good, your warranty covers that."
33  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What do you build into your houses? on: 2007 April 20, 15:15:30
Yay! Clothes poles!
34  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Help, my game asploded! on: 2007 April 20, 14:52:42
No, really, it did!
So I noticed a couple of times that when I pulled a disk out of my dvd r/w drive that it was more hot than normal, like it had been written too and not just read... Then I noticed that there was a tiny crack near the center of my seasons disk 1, and I know I'm super careful about keeping my preschooler away from my disks and I know I didn't drop it or anything so I thought that was strange... but it played just fine...
So then I start up SimPe and my dvd drive starts spinning (which I thought was odd since SimPe points to a spot on the hard drive, not the disk) and I hear this loud pop.... open the drive, many pieces fall out. Shiny ones, I could make a mosaic.
I have never heard of this happening before.
Anyway, until I replace my disk and drive, I know that some people around here... acquire... games, so I thought someone might have a tip on a way to play without my disk. Preferably a way I could still build with, I recall something about an .exe that disables build and buy mode.
35  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Empty and Cleaned-up Templates. [UPDATED] on: 2007 April 17, 17:37:56
These were npc type townies, pizza men and such. I wasn't making normal townies but rather npc townies. And they were weird, but not plane-face guy weird. Weird more for things like a specific face type always came with makeup it was a male) and two or three face types always had... get this.. costume makeup. One with the marks under the eyes like a football player (he had eyeshadow on too, the kind that shaded above and below the eye in a light black), one girl with the face paint Titania came with (she had beautiful eyes too...) and twice that pictish paint came up. The same hair styles came up with each facepaint/facial structure type, but the color of the hair varried. The male teen with elf ears always had white base, thick eyeliner and black lipstick with the sholdier length male hair.
You know, like outfits and hair seem packaged together on certain townies and npcs: nannies only have a certain range of hairstyles; that red dress that got into the game due to a contest (the one with the armband and skirt) always has a wavy sholdier length hair, thick eyeliner and red lipstick; there's a guy in the blue disco shirt with a pompadour, that kind of thing. Not just facial structure but a whole stereotype. I've just never seen some of these templates, maybe because they are npc specific and I've never tried to create npcs before.
36  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Empty and Cleaned-up Templates. [UPDATED] on: 2007 April 17, 16:40:03
So I'm going to try a different way. I have the clean templates and all the townie spawn hacks in place. I have no redundancy. So I was using the townie tree to hand pick townies (exiting the lot if I didn't like the ones I got) and I believe my problem was due to corrupted data related to the memory leak, too much reloading and eventually hood blew up. I restored the hood from a backup made right before the townie creation and decided to just let the game create townies. After all, I do not desire to exit the game and reboot the computer every time the game spews out an adult male in makeup with pointy ears (I had three of those! Not gothic makeup either! What the hell?). So, I figured I'd just let the game generate needed npcs and sim surgery the terrifying ones.
Now, the question is: The game did seem to be generating townies using some kind of odd template. I think this due to some of the repetitions I got. However, the templates were even more bizzare than normal. Should I remove the clean templates and go back to the old one during townie creation, or is the template that is being used residing elsewhere?
37  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What do you build into your houses? on: 2007 April 16, 17:52:33
Thanks for the incense and ideas.... the closet dresser, the one that looks like clothes on a pole. Anyone know where to find it?
Great tip on the album Zazazu. I wish you could enter the album in build mode with no family though.. Sad
Man, so many people do a lot of the things I do or have done in the past...

OMG thank you for the link to ChinafanSims, the essential oil kit looks awesome! Oh, I hope it works right....
38  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What do you build into your houses? on: 2007 April 13, 18:35:49
It depends on the sims' aspiration - my knowledge sims all have a lab and an observatory in their houses...
Ha! I forgot the "secret underground laboratory" I used to love. Actually that's what started the teen bedroom and rec room in the basement, in case my sims needed to explain what the stairs were for.
With my bathrooms I always do one downstairs 1/2 bath, one master bath, and one the kids share (I never have more than three kids, if one is in the shower the others use the downstairs bath).
I also try to base my house plans off of "real" ones I have online. Admittedly, the reason I'm curious is also due to an idea that modified real house plans with the way people actually played the sims. I was going to call it "real houses for real sims". I never download houses because it's hard to find floorplans that take things like career rewards into account, usually they are just showcases for building cheats.
39  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / What do you build into your houses? on: 2007 April 13, 16:29:35
Besides the obvious underground bunker. I've gone through stages of "must haves" built into my sims houses. Now I'm starting to build again and I was thinking of what things I should include v/s what I used to include. Made me wonder what others have... Like I used to have a Yoga/meditation room in every house. Then I had zen gardens for that, but with lightning I'm thinking I might want to bring the old room back (anyone know where I can find incense?) I also used to have the art studio/photography room, a "closet" near the kitchen for the cooking carreer reward, the formal sitting room with the fireplace and piano coupled with the rec room that was always in the basement (next to the teenager's bedroom) with room for band instruments and the plasma tv/game center (no bubble bong. University students only.) The nursery was always near the parent's bedroom and the workroom with crafting benches, enegizer or other dusty looking objects near the garage or over it.
Really my only sim specialized ones (that I wouldn't see in a normal house) were the yoga room and closet for the cooking thing. I used to make a space for every career reward, in suitable rooms (like podium in the library) but now there are so many I think each house might specialize in just one or two.
40  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Ford Mustang GT on: 2007 April 12, 14:10:36
Anyone out there who doesn't have Nightlife? I'm curious if the car works well for them and also lets them use the custom cars for download on other sites.
41  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So, what's the best way to sort through and cull one's downloads? on: 2007 April 11, 15:09:17
Nip over clutteration at the source. Use subfolders, cull undesirables after first installing them. I remove my downloads then cull the new ones, then add the new ones to the old ones before playing a house.
42  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Lady Bug / Plantsim questions on: 2007 April 06, 18:41:58
Ah! Thanks for the info.
43  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Lady Bug / Plantsim questions on: 2007 April 06, 18:01:52
Oh yeah, the food points. I had a fridge (one of the 300 food units ones) that had 160 food units in it. I added over 400 fresh food points to it, the fresh food points went down when they ate, but the food units did not. And the fresh food points (as you can see) far exceeded the food unit max. I don't know if there is a cap to the fresh food points or not.
However, there is a bug, I don't know if it was working to my benefit there or not. I noticed houses that have never touched produce have fresh food complete with fattening bonus. Every lot has fresh food, kind of annoying.
44  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Lady Bug / Plantsim questions on: 2007 April 06, 17:17:50
No chance of plant sims here.
By the way, when they can afford a greenhouse, I believe there is a hack in Pescado's seasons directory that prevents bugs in a greenhouse. Somewhere in the war room someone said that after a certain ammount of sprays (50? I'll dig it up) it was a 10% chance each spray. Don't know about the lofts all that much.

Edit ~ It is 15 sprays.
45  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Confused: Too-Much-Non-Awesomeness! on: 2007 April 06, 17:08:53
It also causes problems. Don't do it! Use the templates. Now. Obey and be happy.
By the way, for individual sim deletion in a safe way obey the master of us all.
46  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Confused: Too-Much-Non-Awesomeness! on: 2007 April 06, 17:02:22
Forgive me for my noobyness - it is all the non-awesome crap floating around that has lead to my confusions! But I have some questions that I need answers to, in search of my clean, custom neighborhood. (Yes, I trust the awesome people here)

1. Can a sim own their own business and be an employee of another's at the same time? Am I right in thinking you can hold a job (with carpool etc.) and be the owner of a business? Would it be possible for my sim to have a job, own a business and be an employee at the same time?
Yup.

2. Does deleteallcharacters affect the suburbs/downtowns/universities if used on the mainland? I am looking to create 4 suburbs (OfB districts), one downtown and one university but without townies. I plan to create them all empty, then use deleteallcharacters. I am just wondering if that would work (I have all the notownieregen, dormie etc. hacks installed)
3. Another question on "deleteallcharacters" - will it affect sims in the lots and houses bin? Will it really delete all characters? o.O
4. Once the DAC has been used, which files do I need to delete in SimPE (if any?)
Don't know, I used the empty templates. Much safer.
Quote
5. Is it safe to delete an exported sim's original template and the 'hood it came from?
6. How are household bills calculated?
Don't know. Ain't I helpful?
Quote
7. How does one delete hacks and custom careers safely?
I've never done the careers, but deleting the hacks from your downloads folder is safe. I use a subfolder for all hacks then cut it from the directory and paste it on my desktop whenever I install a new expansion, then put them in when the creators verify they will work in the new expansion.
47  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: GAH! stop creating wolves! on: 2007 April 04, 13:23:38
I think it was related to a corrupt backup. I had the neighborhood on a disk, borked something and reinstalled the game. Then I borked something else (I WILL get this clean template neighborhood right!!!) and reinstalled again. Both times I used the backup of Veronaville, well this last time the 'hood was really seriously screwy. So I think the wolves were the first thing to go. Bad copy on the disk I guess.
48  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Another Environment Question: Greenhouses on: 2007 April 04, 13:11:36
Where did you get the dreds?
49  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Environment preference of the sims on: 2007 April 03, 20:34:00
Any hostility is not personal. It's merely hostility to blatant illogic.
Aye.
50  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Environment preference of the sims on: 2007 April 03, 18:32:53
Hey, thanks for catching the time, Hitch! It looks like in those few min the sim walked from the bathroom to the bedroom, which would make the environment bar display arrows for a second or two. The room score still looks the same, as far as how much the bar has filled.
gali, April Fool's day already passed....
