1  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: SS Hack Seasons Repost on: 2007 March 14, 21:51:17
If I have a child with a 'D' but the others has A's and C's, then the social worker shouldn't come right?
I'm getting pop ups saying the child isn't doing well in school and could be taken away. So are these just
mere threats?
(this is with the old ss hack, haven't tried this shiny yet)

Yep - the message is an empty threat. .
I've played with the old version since it first came out and even if it gives you the warning, as long as the number of passing children outnumber the failing children, she will not come.

It's nice to see the sshack with its own thread.
The original Social Worker code was so silly - the fact that she comes and takes all the kids when only one was failing was incredibly frustrating.

And, I'm happy that I don't have to worry about whether I need to choose Paladin's hack or Pescado's anymore in regards to the freezing/overheating problem.  Smiley
I like to keep the the number of "awesome mods" higher than the number of "non-awesome mods" in my downloads folder.

Amber: I looked at the code quickly today and it has lots of tests for things that I don't understand without taking the time to think about it. (I am in-between college courses right now and I am currently on a "thinking vacation")
I couldn't even see the test where Paladin checked for temperature neglect.  I compared the main BHAV in both mods and then looked at the original BHAV that came with the game and ...bleh...

Once you get past the initial part of trying to figure out what all the tests are for, a personal "mod tweak"/"mod merge" would probably work. (Oh goodness...does it offend modders when we talk about tweaking their mods?)  Huh  (lol - "tweaking their mods" ... sounds dirty)

Anyway, I guess once the temperature code can be deciphered in Paladin's BHAV, it can just be added to the BHAV in Pescado's mod.  It would be easier that way instead of trying to merge it the other way around.  Pescado has more features so his mod should probably remain the base mod.  But, I don't know.  J.M. is a mod king and I am a lowly peasant.
Blech - my homeworksometimes mod was soooo much easier than this. And fun, too.  Because homework is fun and I'm a nerd.

Of course, if Mr. Pescado would care to just add the temperature feature to his mod, that would save me lots of time and I can go back to my thinking vacation.  Grin

I feel kind of stupid all of a sudden - am I completely misunderstanding load order and how it's handled and why we use it sometimes?
Heh, I doubt it.  I asked because I know you're a much more advanced modder than I am.  XD  But if I understand your explanation, it sounds like you could load Paladin's hack last and get the temperature aspect at the cost of the grade effect from sshack, but preserving everything else sshack does.  Am I right?
XD - I feel like a such newbmodder in the presence of JM and TJ.
But to answer your question, yep - that is exactly what it seems to be, as far as I can tell.

I just really like the school grade aspect of Pescado's mod...I think having the social worker come and grab all the kids for one child's failing grade is rather harsh.  Maybe I'll be lucky and not have any frozen/heat-related social worker visits in my game.  Unfortunately, now I'm going to be all paranoid about letting the kids play outside.   Grin   The stress of sim-parenting!

4  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Seasons: What mods are you already begging for? on: 2007 March 14, 03:24:35
Well - the conflict utility by Paladin shows them as conflicting and yes - in some cases a different load order does make a difference with other hacks, but Paladin's hack only contains and changes one BHAV (called Function-Update).
That is the BHAV that conflicts with Pescado's.  (Obviously)
When the game loads the two mods, it doesn't pick and choose different lines of the BHAV, right?
It only chooses one full BHAV over the other, right?
Loading Pescado's hack last would be the same as not having Paladin's hack in at all because Pescado's BHAV would cancel out Paladin's BHAV (which is the only thing in Paladin's hack)

On the flip side, loading Paladin's last would make us lose Pescado's school grade tweak in that BHAV (where the Social worker only comes if more than half the kids are failing).
Pescado does have two other BHAVs he changed in his and I know that those will always work in spite of the load order.  But it's the BHAV called Function-Update that is the main part of the hack.

I feel kind of stupid all of a sudden - am I completely misunderstanding load order and how it's handled and why we use it sometimes?

... and of children becoming cold enough for the social worker to arrive after a very short period of time outside.  I figure readers here are a more reliable source, so are these actually common problems?  Is the children's temperature problem caused by hacks as the overheating is believed to be?

Nope, but Paladin over at http://www.simwardrobe.com/ has a hack that prevents the social worker from coming for that reason.

I really wanted to use that one, but it conflicts with Pescado's sshack.

I have only just started playing Seasons so I haven't seen it happen yet, but I don't like the reports that the kids are outside and freeze too quickly to get them inside before the social worker comes.  That would make me sad if that happened.

AFAIK, I don't think the sshack covers the temperature neglect possibility, but I would rather have the other features it provides, so I guess I'll just have to keep Pescado's in and risk it.

Thank you so much for this! For the first time ever, I actually pay attention to their interests as a child to see how that will affect their grades.  It was a huge success to have my first 'overachiever' teen last week...it's not a run of the mill occurrance anymore.

I think the 'interests' section of the game was entirely underused by Maxis and I am happy to see that you made something to incorporate it into our gameplay. Thanks!  I love this!  I use it with Monique's automatic homework at 7PM mod and my HomeworkSometimes mod and it works great.

Do you have any plans on making something for University?  I find it way too easy to graduate.  Maybe increase the skill-building handicap while they are at college...for example: have lazy sims gain the body skill even slooooower than usual while at college.  It will make us think twice about what major we have our sims choose to pursue.

Awesome awesome. Thanks again!

I have such a problem with most of the group games in the Sims.  They constantly have the want to "win a game against so and so", but no one ever stays in the game long enough to have anyone win or lose.  This includes darts, pool, chess, etc - and we won't even talk about MyShuno...they are sooooo fickle when it comes to playing THAT game.  Maybe those games should be coded to be played a little faster and then we would finally see winners and losers.  I think I saw darts end once and chess end once, and that is all.

I have never seen the sims actually bowl until there was a winner or loser, but maybe with this mod, I can actually have the sims play long enough to see if someone actually wins.
8  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The Movies (the game) on: 2005 November 06, 07:14:50
I have been waiting for this game since forever!  Thanks for the notice - I hadn't even realized the release date was so close!!
And the new previews look like so much fun!

Actually, "The Movies" reminds me of one of my all-time favorite PC games:  "Steven Spielberg's Director's Chair".
In that game you were a director for a movie...you choose the genre, edited the script, used custom film clips (starring Jennifer Aniston, Quentin Tarantino, Penn and Teller).  You had the chance to add music and sound effects and you chose different camera shots and different film endings....*sighs happily*...I loved that game.

It's always a blessing and a curse when really awesome games come out these days.
I hardly have the time to play them all.  I just reinstalled Baldur's Gate and I've been playing that in the evenings when I am not playing Nightlife.  My copy of Black and White 2 hasn't even been touched yet.
There just aren't enough hours in the day for all this 'important' game playing. Wink
We could definitely use a real life version of TwoJeffs "Speed Controller".  Now wouldn't that be handy?
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Welcome, TwoJeffs! on: 2005 October 31, 14:33:07
Yay! Happy happy! Welcome, twojeffs - so glad to see you (both) here!!
J.M. scares me a little (heehee) so I'm glad we have some new modders who won't poke sticks at us!   Cheesy
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Database almost ready... on: 2005 October 20, 03:24:03
Oh - that is so great!  Awesome!
I have been wanting something like this for a while.  I designed some charts in Microsoft Word and printed them out to keep track of my Sims, but all those papers get a little disorganized on my desk.  I was toying with the idea of trying a Visual Basic version...but I tend to lose steam mid-project, so I doubt I would have gotten very far.   Grin

The layout you have looks very user-friendly...let me know if you need any help testing it out. Smiley
11  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hacks/Mods made redundant by the new patch. Preliminary List. on: 2005 October 13, 21:44:12
I don't think 'nohugginghack' affects stranger hugs...looking inside the file, the only behavior function it changes is the one called "Parent Greet".
There was a 'nostrangerdance' hack - I remember that one, but I never did see a 'nostrangerhug' hack - if there was one, I wish I had downloaded it before it disappeared.
12  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hacks/Mods made redundant by the new patch. Preliminary List. on: 2005 October 13, 03:07:01
Thanks for the list!

As far as the nocheeringhack goes, J.M's version of this fix also routes the students closer to the mailbox before opening their report card.  He called it "bus unloading clog".  So, we might want to keep this one in for that reason.

For now, I don't think I'm going to install the patch until I see that my favorite mods have been tested and updated for it.
And then maybe we'll get our romance mod back again soon...maybe maybe maybe...  Wink

13  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How many Sims are you playing? on: 2005 October 10, 23:08:54
I have never really played the pre-made towns.  The only one I kept was Pleasantville, but I don't use it.  I just keep it so there isn't an empty spot on the start-up neighborhood screen.

Right now I have two towns I actually play.  One town is for a more 'normal' Sims atmostphere (called Bay City) and one for the weird/odd storylines (Sunnydale).  In each town I usually have about 8 active families.  Everyone has met each other, but only certain families will actually hang out with other families.
I try to age them together the best I can, so that childhood friends can go to college together, but it doesn't always happen that way - especially when I find myself spending more time with one family than another. I actually have a little sims notebook with the family names and details so that I can keep a summary of things.  Roll Eyes
I do wish that they would tweak the photo album feature...in Sims 1 (if I remember correctly) a text box would automatically appear after you take a picture so that you can write a description of the picture right then and there.  In Sims 2, I take a lot of pictures and they start to pile up and I don't always get around to working on the album.
One thing I would like to see in the future is to have a feature where you can put together a tiny photo album of your favorite photos when your sim becomes an elder...and after they die, those pictures would appear as sort of a tribute slideshow of their life.  (Awww!)
LOL - I get a little attached to some of my Sims and have a hard time watching them get old and die.

I play with aging off mostly until everyone in their age group is ready to move on to the next life stage together.  Some households I have specific plans for them and with others, I just let them do as they please.  I try to add variety to the gameplay, so that I don't get bored too quickly.
