3651  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Be uneducated on: 2007 April 11, 01:25:22
Ugh, I always forget about the sim aging cheat because the Sim Modder is a regular resident of my lots. Anyways, all Family/Knowledge/Fortune sims I've had not go to college get hit with that -10,000 aspiration hit when they don't go to Uni...whether the fear is active or not. Very ridiculous. I was just saying that you could age them back and put them through college.
3652  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: EP5 seasonal trees spawning on built lots: unremovable by any means on: 2007 April 10, 22:01:17
Seasons Trees needs now 3 Meshes for the real Tree and the same amount for the Lod. (everytime the state of the Tree or Shrub changes the game switches the Meshes not the Texture)
Your Game could not find the Lodmeshes and Textures so you get the blue flashing ones.
It is possible to make the custom Trees and Shrubs working with seasons but expect really big Packages.
Edit: Forgot to add Shrubs have more than 3 meshes, because the need the overgrown state also. So they need nine.
Weird that that's only happening with trees on another lot (neighbor view). I have loads of custom trees and they appear fine on my lots, just no snow cover or leaves falling in the appropriate seasons. Randomness!

Edit: Yup, it was multiple instances of custom recolors of the nasty Japanese Autumn Maple that was causing those churro-shaped flashing blue objects in neighbor view. I've not seen any other custom trees or recolored Maxis trees do this, and I did test approximately 12 different trees in the same neighborhood during Fall, while the maples were flashing on another lot. Yet again, that maple is borked.
3653  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: EP5 seasonal trees spawning on built lots: unremovable by any means on: 2007 April 10, 18:31:30
Hmm. No, they aren't quite that mirrored. I just had my first occurance of this bug last night even though I'm rather fond of the Japanese Maple. Took a sim downtown to the minimall and had four phantom trees on the lot. All that pink-leaved color even though I had maybe two pink-leaved ones in the neighborhood. Tons of custom-leaved ones, though....pretty much every lot uses them. I also had four large blue flashy-things in the distance view from a lot two spots down which I can't figure out the source of. They kind of looked like vertical churros. I'm thinking it must be custom content, but the shape isn't familiar.
3654  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Poll: How do you feel about accidental deaths in the Sims 2? on: 2007 April 10, 18:14:35
I generally micromanage my sims only on the weekdays. I'll give them two hours before bed to goof off, but other than that it's work/skill build/homework/friend build. On the weekends, it's a free-for-all. I'll check their needs ever four hours or so just to make sure they aren't pillow fighting themselves into bladder failure, but that's it.

ACR has been interesting. I have a Grilled Cheese non-zombie (a first, but she was my legacy girl and rolled Romance so I couldn't bring myself to zombify her)/Family sim combo right now and every 32 hours like clockwork, it's time to strip and woohoo. They could be on the way to get a bottle for that toddler they had against the Oversoul's wishes (ugly little thing it is, too) and they'll drop that for a little hibbity jibbity. Cracks me up. Toddler's starving, but they're getting it on.
3655  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Be uneducated on: 2007 April 10, 17:44:19
Sans an outside hack, you could use boolProp to spawn the SimModder, age them down to teen (quit job first, just in case) and then send them off to college. But really, unless the SWAF burp is really going to cause firey-ball type damage, why mess with it? Uni is a yawner.
3656  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sigh, that's what I get for messing with non-awesome hacks. on: 2007 April 09, 21:39:09
It's not updated yet. I've done a few little things in it since I couldn't wait (name changes, checking townie names back when I was thinking about doing the Alphabet Challenge, color binning hair) and so far so good. But of course it won't have anything on the new careers or plantsimage. Not sure about much else because I've never really gotten into the details of SimPE. I mostly use it to change townie personalities to their genetic personality when they somehow get borked, and change townie names if I get duplicates.
3657  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The more I learn, the more I realize what a noob I am... on: 2007 April 09, 21:08:31
Really her site is gone?  I was looking at it no so long ago.  I even printed off her tutorial.  I was planning to set up my neighbourhood as per her tut, but I never quite got around to it.
Yup, it's down...and every other search hit I get just links to that site. I'm doing a one-community-lot-per-residential thing. I build a residential lot for each gen of my "legacy" family, then a community lot somewhere at the same time. No new lots until the next gen is reached. I don't like sitting on the same lot for 10 generations, so I move my family every generation and give them the money that shows as their net worth from the 'hood screen to start the new plot. I end up with less $ because of item depriciation, but no biggie. It's not like I'm competing against anyone.

I also have uses for decorative sheep. One is a frequent prop in my nurseries.
3658  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The more I learn, the more I realize what a noob I am... on: 2007 April 09, 16:46:31
Since the questions on this thread have been answered, I guess it's OK to go a little off-topic?
Does anybody here play the Jade-style way? With an intergrated economy?
Jade-style? Linky?

I can barely keep attention to one family for three generations, much less a neighborhood for more than a couple months, so I've been through lots of custom hoods. I have five on my computer now, but V-ville and Kendry (custom) are about to be trashed. I hate it when I have to hit that arrow button.
3659  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sigh, that's what I get for messing with non-awesome hacks. on: 2007 April 09, 15:37:48
Er, no offence but InTEEN has never given me any problems whatsoever. I find it & InSIM to be the best "uber-mods" for Sims 2 around. Then again, I make sure I have the correct version installed (InTEEN was only updated for Seasons a day or to ago) and actually read the documentaion/instructions that comes with it.

But that's just me....

-ZW
I think you are missing the point. It's more what InTeen allows you to do than what it could potentially bork.
3660  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The more I learn, the more I realize what a noob I am... on: 2007 April 07, 18:19:24
SimulatedDork, I use the Easytown one for downtown, rather than a residential area.  I don't have any residential lots in my downtown, it's all commercial and entertainment in my game.  There is plenty of room left over, even after putting in most of Wolfsim68's commercial lots in it.

I tend to use DinkORama for the main residential area of my neighbourhoods, occasionally using EasyEstates, EasyQuad or maybe DinkBlossom for a little variety.  I mainly use 2x3, 3x2 or 3x3 residential lots, which fit nicely in the DinkORama terrain.  There's not a great deal of wasted space.  Since you have said you use smaller lots, then the Easytown one would have a lot of wasted space in it that you'd have to fill with decorations.
I'm using Easy Quad as my downtown (since I only use downtown for commercial lots...mostly entertainment) and DinkORama as university (love that name!). For my new neighborhood, I actually made a custom one. I'll attach for shares later, once I take a screenshot. IMHO, it only really looks good in lush or desert. It's a large set-up that needs GunMod's camera hack to work, but the streets are set up for smaller lots.
3661  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The more I learn, the more I realize what a noob I am... on: 2007 April 06, 21:30:04
I have a set of lots I got from MTS2, which combines two things I adore - very small lots and an urban city theme. I even aquired a copy of SimCity 4 (arr!) so I could make my own map with the streets very close together, to reflect the small size of my new lots. (The widest point between streets is 4 squares... so it could take one 4x4 lot which would take up the whole space, or a 1x1 and a 3x1.)
Whoa, whoa! Wait a minute! Where in the world did you get the ability to have 1x1 lots and can I have a piece of that? I would love 1x1's and 1x2s for an urban neighborhood! If it's possible, I absolutely must create a new custom neighborhood this weekend.

I generally make my own terrains in SC4 as well. If not for Sims2, SC4 would have left my shelf long ago.
3662  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The more I learn, the more I realize what a noob I am... on: 2007 April 06, 16:08:40
I used the blank templates but did not make townies. The neighborhood is pretty bare for awhile but that is ok for my purposes.

Before my adults reach elder I use the shrub to make them townies and this has worked out nicely so far.

Just my contribution and an idea someone else may be able to use.
Hmm. Generally I wouldn't like doing that, because it would just be like a really long way to make new townies. However, it's a good idea for excess children I have no intention of playing. I hate sticking them in a house and then seeing that plumbob there reminding me of their exile. Leaving them in the bin is too much like putting them in the naughty chair.

I went ahead and did a boolProp - create all townies on my new neighborhood. I like getting my family sims married off ASAP, especially since money is tight in the beginning. I kind of wish I'd used new default face templates (my game has been in a royal squinched-eye trend and I prefer anime ones). Maybe I'll restart...again! I'm already regretting using the default downtown instead of creating one with some of my own lot creations.

Yes, I'll admit it....I have a vendetta against juttapoontah:

Because gramma needs to look whorey too. Best comment: "What a wonderful set for our elder female sims! Stylish & attractive! Our elders need more styles like this. Thanks!"

Just what I'd want my daughter to be wearing.

And because her toddler models scare the crap out of me:

...like my four twin-sets in a row, three in the same family thing. I'm almost afraid to let my first simmie in my lovely new custom neighborhood woohoo.
3665  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The more I learn, the more I realize what a noob I am... on: 2007 April 06, 04:50:18
I just did a clean template neighborhood last night and am loving it so far. Make sure to get Jordi's name hack at MTS2 (the one that includes pets http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=207539, the one that doesn't http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=110889) and place it in Downloads before you load up the game so you don't get different-looking sims with the same old names. For default replacements, I use:

PlantSim eyes & non embellished skin (HystericalParoxysm): http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=223790
Fantastic pet eyes with many choices (awasegg): http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=220538
Sim eyes - the biggest difference maker! (Enayla): http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=217871
Default skin replacements (Enayla): http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=203024
I use these contacts for both my vampires and werewolfs (ciboulettebis): http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=168102

I use the hunter-natural eyes but am thinking of switching to the enchanting ones. I have one cat whose eyes are normally slit-pupiled, one whose are almost always wide-pupiled.

Another really important thing before you create your new neighborhood: colorbin all those hairs the creators were too lazy to take care of. You'll have lots less NPCs/townies in the flat Maxis versions, and your new babies will have a greater variety to grow into naturally. Colorbinning looks a lot harder than it is, and the tutorial is here: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=3844.0

You could always use the lot-debugger in the Director's Cut to permaplat them in the meantime. That's bandaiding a hatchet wound, but at least the sim is happy. Do they get the memory of reaching the top?
3667  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Environment preference of the sims on: 2007 April 05, 05:26:47
Tongue I'm 28, I neglected to fill that out. Kiddo is actually a teasing term of endearment for me. I use it regardless of relative age.
3668  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Seasons Bookcase question on: 2007 April 05, 04:19:06
Just useful for legacy points if you're still trying to keep your attention on that thing like I am. I'm actually not letting any of my sims go Edumacation unless they have that LTW and then only getting the bookshelf after they've maxxed the career.
3669  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Making Sim Twins on: 2007 April 05, 04:15:24
You have to set the relationships for both brothers to each other and for the kids towards their new uncle/uncle to new nieces and nephews. Not sure about cousin-to-cousin as I haven't done it since forever ago. The relationship changes don't like to cascade like they should.
3670  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Environment preference of the sims on: 2007 April 05, 04:06:39
Yeah, I don't think I've ever been called an "ass hole." It seems more specific somehow.
Never heard "zeroed noob" either, myself. The diapers comment is especially hilarious since my one friend always teases that I'm going through menopause (late twenties here). I'll have to let her know that.

Anyways, I thought the Scientific Method was a universal, not USA-centric? Logic most certainly is a universal, and Gali's experiments are lacking. Sorry kiddo, you had a good idea, but even if there was any way for the game to read the color codes of objects/customs you missed the most important part of proving your point: CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT.

I'd tell you not to take things so personally, but your insults make me giggle.

I honestly almost never bother with lights. They just aren't necessary and they interfere with my viewing.
And it doesn't get dark on you at night or too dark/shadowy (even during the day) to take good pics? I don't put lights in for my sims, I put them in for me and turn them to always on too. I usually use those bitty microceiling ones that don't get in the way so much. But then I like lots of light in my real house too, so I suppose it's just that 'it's too dark to read' thing kicking in.
Hehe, the microlight is usually my rule-breaker light in the bathroom. As for too dark-shadowy for pictures...nope. The game will still light the room when a sim comes into it, just not at the same level. There are more shadows at night, but I think that's realistic. Regardless, it's not the same being in a room with no lights at night and outside with no lights.
3672  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Jagged Lines of Death...... ARE BACK!!!!!!!!!!! on: 2007 April 04, 21:32:12
I've always thought of it as the "making up shit" bubble. My sims really only do it when gossiping about someone they've seen but only talked to for a second, so have no actual memory other than the "met X sim" one.
3673  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Environment preference of the sims on: 2007 April 04, 18:12:20
Ugh. To Gali: please study the Scientific Method. You know that thing they pounded into your head every year in school? It needs another pounding.

As for environment scores, I find that as long as the floor and wall coverings are at least 2$ per block each and I have a couple "decent" (read: more than $100 in cost) items and 2-3 windows, it's a solid green. I honestly almost never bother with lights. They just aren't necessary and they interfere with my viewing. For bathrooms, the cheapest shower, cheapest toilet, and 1 light makes them do the happy-home dance.

But then, I hate huge homes, huge rooms, and huge lots. My old laptop couldn't handle them when I started playing and even though my desktop can run with everything maxed and huge lots with more than the Maxis limits of sims, I still prefer them small. My Legacy lot is a 4x4 with 8 sims, 3 dogs, and a home ticket business and I regret not going smaller.
3674  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I want bigger breasts.... For my sims. Perv. on: 2007 April 04, 17:12:19
I agree, that they are too small. Particularly for teens. Gawd knows I was a c cup buy the time I was 13. I want my sims to have that too.

-Skadi
[who's boobies enter the room before she does, and they are real!]
you want them to have that?   How about all the bra strap snapping by the boys that went along with that?  Grin
Ah, but if you're known for elbowing boys in the stomach for breathing funny and kicking them in the nether regions for trying to kiss you, they don't dare snap your undies.
Flower's becoming an amazon? But I thought they only lopped off one breast...
Ambidextrosity is the new trend in amazons.
3675  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Seasons Bookcase question on: 2007 April 04, 16:21:47
Do you only have the Education bookcase on the lots in question, or do you have a secondary vanilla one? My sims always go to the vanilla one to write about the teddy bears they never had and that guy they saw 16 years ago, didn't talk to, but apparently are obsessed with.
