3601  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Weatherproof custom roofs on: 2007 April 24, 20:51:17
Maybe....you wouldn't think there would be any checks for that. Ah well. Will do a little testing tonight on an empty lot with some 4x4 buildings, different floor tiles, and snow. Hopefully I'll be able to do some sort of non-awesome scientific experiment to find if it's custom tiles, tile translucency, or tile type that's the culprit. Considering that my current neighborhood is urban and is going to have loads of flat roofs, weatherproofing is important.
3602  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Weatherproof custom roofs on: 2007 April 24, 16:12:10
OK, well....now I've had an issue with this. Built a community pool/small diner lot last night. Fully walled in, two story structure. Every wall is occupied by a full-height/width window so it's a pretty glass & metal structure. The roof is a flat roof using custom translucent glass-type tiles from the "tile" category. Rain leaked through. Nasty since we all know how much of a lightning attractor hottubs are, and the lot has one in addition to the huge pool.

However...the lot next door is a residential lot. It also has a flat roof using custom tiles, but they are in the "other" category. No leakage.

I'm stumped. It couldn't possibly be the genre of floor tiles, could it? That's just asinine.

I've never had a flaming bag of poo ever.
At one point I tried to stage some bad dates just to see what they looked like, but no dice.
Poo bags are much more likely to occur in the case of date-time cheating. Many a sim of mine has accidentally triggered this in their search for the One while left to their own devices. A good make-out session while on a date with someone else works like a charm.

Yeah, the only sim template I had was one of myself from a year ago, far as I could figure. Normal eyes. However, I glanced through my CAS templates again and noticed a whole bunch of squinched ones towards the back. It was Doc Doofus's set, which doesn't have too many previews to look at beforehand. I'm now using another new set...Selzi's from MTS2, and my random rolls were looking a bit better. Not as big as I generally prefer my eyes, but at least I could see the things. At least I have one drop dead gorgeous townie that came out of the whole episode...Doris Drake. My current playable girl went a little ACR crazy and decided to bork her while she was visiting.

It's the "borfin dorfin" I'd like to get rid of.  Zombies should stick to "Braaaains!"  Even when talking to plants.

I would think that would make the plants turn into Cow Plants.

Mine stick to "Cheese!" Somehow I think this would be less disturbing when talking to plants, but more disturbing to the cake-loving monster.

On the subject of non-random randomness, I'm having a tiny-eye outbreak. It actually started before my latest custom neighborhood while still using the normal face templates. All NPC's spawned with what I call tiny eyes. Basically, they are squinched looking. Face shapes were still variable, as were other features. I then started a new custom neighborhood with the clean templates. I got some template replacements before spawning townies. The templates look fine when I choose them in CAS, just one or two with tiny eyes but that's normal. Still, almost every freaking townie has tiny eyes. Rolling for a random sim in CAS gives me all tiny eyes.

The way you describe this, it sounds like you may have downloaded sims that are facial templates. There are no default Maxis face templates that have disproportionately tiny eyes, but these downloadable sims do.

Check this thread: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,7828.0.html
Hmm. The only sims I've downloaded before I noticed a tiny-eye outbreak have huge anime eyes. However, there's a couple of other sims I have showing as downloaded that I'm honestly not sure of the origins. I never remember downloading them because until three weeks ago I'd never consciously downloaded a whole sim (seemed a waste of my already wasted space). I don't need the ones I downloaded on purpose anymore as I've already used the in-game, so I'll try deleting all custom sims tonight and see if the CAS roller will give me something more normal. I'm thoroughly sick seeing those nearsighted-like simmies and the Oversoul has been working overtime killing off ugly progeny of my big-eyed/tiny-eyed couples.

Grr.

I was planning on doing some of my own template replacements since I personally prefer big, almost anime eyes in my simmies, but I'm hesitant to do so since it's a pain in the nether regions.

Good news! The "cracked" .exe works with the EALink download of Seasons. I'm patched as well. I downloaded and installed it, then unplugged my internet cable. Loaded just fine!
3609  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What do you build into your houses? on: 2007 April 20, 20:51:36
He's a select artist now, not featured or whatever, so they should be downloadable. However, you do have to start a free account. I know, it makes you feel dirty....but I still have a paid sub with them for the next 23 days, so I'm up to my eyelashes in filthyness.
3610  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help, my game asploded! on: 2007 April 20, 20:36:15
If you registered your software, Maxis will send you a new CD for cheap.
Yes, they will, actually, which rather surprised me when I lost my Uni discs, luckily, I had registered it as soon as I installed it, so the code was retrievable.  For people that got lazy and started using EALink however (such as myself), no amount of red tape or hoop jumping can convince them to send you the discs for any reason.  Kept telling me that I'd need to go out and purchase the physical software from a retailer or order from the EAstore, so I've been looking for a bypass for this for a while now.

Ugh, I know. So far so good, my cable internet very rarely goes out...but when it does, it usually takes a whole 24 hours for them to fix it. And downloading off EAlink is the only way for me to get the game within the release week. Yup, I'm one of those addicted whores who needs it right now. For some freakish reason, no place in Chicago or Evanston that's easy for my carless self to get to ever has it on time. Will unplug my internet tonight and try the .exe to see if it works for ya. You never know.
3611  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Default Replacement Walls/Floors? on: 2007 April 20, 15:18:38
Okay, since I had a lot with the wall in it, I tested it.

The lot did not crash. When it loaded, the wall was still there, but could no longer be selected with the eyedropper, and was still not in the catalog. It could be replaced with a different wall.

Awesome, thanks for trying that out!  Cheesy
Fantastic! No more looking at those crappy polka-dot carpets and weird papers that came with Nightlife!
*Nope, no Thank You post here. Not at all.
3612  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Default Replacement Walls/Floors? on: 2007 April 20, 04:40:31
Cool beans.  My only reservation is that I found when I made overrides to hide objects from the Buy and Build Mode catalogs, any house I then tried to load which contained any of those hidden objects would crash.  I wonder if the same thing will happen with the walls.
* AmberDiceless will have to try that.

That's why I was thinking default replacements would be a better option. While most of my lots are custom content, and 80% are my design, I do have a couple Maxis community lots in use. Wouldn't want to accidentally bork one. Accidentally making a color clash I can get over.
3613  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Finding Descriptions of Hacks and What they Do Precisely on: 2007 April 20, 00:11:23
I prefer Death by Cowplant....kill the bad and reward the good.
That makes some live longer, which I don't support. I like the imagery of their death coming from above...even though technically the Oversoul isn't sky-based. Of course, the Oversoul isn't really intent on destruction, I just like blaming their pixelated deaths on something other than myself, and having it be some society-controlling computer seems right.
3614  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Default Replacement Walls/Floors? on: 2007 April 20, 00:06:55
& if you do, feel free to share. I just cleaned my floor tiles and most of my wall ones. The majority of Maxis defaults are butt ugly.
3615  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What do you build into your houses? on: 2007 April 19, 18:30:34
But not until the fourth or fifth expansion pack...so it'll be okay. Smiley
Yes, but it will be the feature they market most before game debut, and be featured in all teaser videos. Then, immediately after release, they will state that sadly they weren't able to implement the feature because the smells were pervasive over the entire neighborhood.

One more thing, I had a situation with teens:  the guy was a Fortune Sim, the girl was a Family.  Their friendship was up to about 78/74.  I had planned on just keeping them friends.  He invited her over, and immediately after a greeting hug (not romantic) she proceeds to kiss him romantically ( I had no control over her as she was a guest) which made them both fall in love with each other---against my plans!  It happened too quickly for me to cancel the action.  I can't believe she would do that as a Family Sim and she only had 3 shy points.  So now I have to deal with this.
No, they went against the wishes of the Oversoul. There is a solution to this: Death By Hail. You can't let the disobedient ones live, as they are bad influences on the others.

That's why I don't play Romance sims. Woohoo in the bed...Woohoo in the hot tub....Woohoo in the photobooth...Make out with X, Make out with Y. Yawn. If they started actually wanting to be caught cheating or bork their girlfriend's brother right in front of her, then I'd be more interested. Hence, grilled cheese zombification. The Oversoul is not amused by Romance Sims. The Oversoul is amused by zombies shuffling around jonesing for melty cheesy goodness.

That reminds me...my current neighborhood needs a bit of necromatic meddling.

if anyone is gonna bother to buy it, for those of you who feel compelled to (or at least too guilty to acquire it Tongue) you might as well buy it for cheap. Roll Eyes
The CrapPacks are the only legit software I feel perfectly comfortable acquiring. However, I've not seen anything shiny enough in them to justify it, and this CrapPack is the least impressive yet. To me, anyways.

Agreed - very cool idea!  I've seen such DLs at this site (in the Build section):

http://www.11dots.com/
Yes! I couldn't remember where it was and was going to look in-game. I actually believe I got them as part of a set at 4ESF, but they are affiliates. It's called the "LAURANA Fences Part III". When you place it diagonally in a 1x1 V it makes that lovely dome. And now I've seen two more fences I have to have. Grr.
3621  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Don't wave at me? on: 2007 April 18, 02:21:23
Dontwaveatme kept me from quitting my favorite money maker (the home ticket business) forever. I was so insanely sick of not being able to get the resident sims in the house because customers were flocking the stairs trying to get to the TV.

As for sims waving at each other...don't you and your friends wave at each other often? I have a best friend who waves all the time when she's bored. That or she sticks out her tongue. It's cute, but her children are going to be extra embarrassed by mommy, I can tell.

Redownloading the files wasn't an option, since I'd tested and deleted 6 of my 8 maxxed size pages of terrain paint. I looked it up and the boolprop to delete terrain paints is : boolprop lotTerrainPaints [true/false]  However, I loaded up the game today and it's fine. Ok. That's weird, but great. Now I have to redo the terrain paints I actually want and rebuild the arches I pummeled in my anger. Here's a few pics of the lot as-is. It's still not perfect, but not bad either.

1. Lot overview (two portraits in the closest left plots are reserved for my founder sims. I base the poses on their aspirations. In this case, Family and Grilled Cheese)
2. Close up of the graves of those who have defied the Oversoul by their very existence
3. Central statue and dome. I'll probably add some seating later.
3623  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: LTW's on: 2007 April 17, 18:43:18
I experimented with this last night.  I ran the hack conflict scanner, and while Squinge's AnyLTW and Pes' ltwvariety do conflict, there is no conflict between Squinge's AnyLTW and Pes' uni LTW mod.  However, I ended up taking out Squinge's hack because it takes too long to cycle through all the LTW's to get to the one I want.  Tongue  I think I'll stick with ltwvariety, and if I have a sim I want a different LTW for, I'll spawn the Sim Modder through testingcheats.

I was interested in Squinge's reduced requirements LTW mod for the ones like 3 children instead of 6, etc., which will help with curbing the population explosion, but I did not like changing Max 7 skills to 5 skills.  Usually my sim kids have maxed 5 skills already by the time they become a teen, and when I tested this in my test hood, the "Max 5 skills" would not roll up as  LTW for a teen who had maxed all but one skill point.  I had to take away two skills and 1 skill point from another before it would roll up.  Then she could get the LTW.  I tried changing the mod in SimPE from 5 to 7, but when I saved it, it blew up from 8k to 32k!  Shocked  Also the "Directory of Compressed files" entry disappeared.  I don't know why this is, but I couldn't figure out how to compress it again, so I just deleted it.  I would love to see one though that reduced the number of children or 1st/dream dates, etc., but not skills.  It would be awesome if we had one we could modify ourselves to make it harder/easier or just customize it to our personal playing style.
50 dream dates is ridiculously easy. Just take a married or 100/100 couple to a community lot with some snapdragons, and have them continuously date, switching the asker each time. The snapdragon/dream date boost combo should keep you thoroughly in the green, and you don't have aging. It's just boring grinding. Now Grilled Cheese....why they made it something completely unattainable unless you plan on the sim being a porker is beyond me. 50 would be reasonable. 75 doable.

Question in bold below...I ramble.
So, I've had a recent obsession with streamlining my custom content. It's been a lovely experience, even though I've not yet noticed a significant lessening in game loading time. The other night, I decided my 8 maxed pages of custom terrain files needed to be culled.

I was creating a graveyard for my new custom neighborhood. It took me a great deal of time to make and features pretty archways, glass domes, and little memorial walls for my dearly departed sims featuring portraits of them in their prime or, in the case of those who defied the Oversoul, their sticky end. In the midst, I started "testing" my terrain paints and would put six or so on the ground, decide which must go, hit that back button, delete the offending paints, rinse & repeat. Everything looked lovely in-game, and in the end I was down to 2 maxed pages of terrain paint. I saved the lot, went to the neighborhood, had a sim buy the lot, and visited so I could place graves and the portraits. All was lovely.

The next time I started the game up, the lot was flashing blue. Not just a couple squares, but the whole fricking terrain. I figure I must have forgotten to hit the back button once and deleted a terrain file for some tiny spot on the lot. I tried picking a terrain file at random and guestimated covering the whole lot, no go. I tried using the terrain tool to delete preexisting terrains applied, and I did see that there was a cost involved, supporting my theory that I left something on. Now, I've covered the lot in light green carpet and there's no blinking, but removal of the carpet gets me right back to Blinksville.

Is there a way to check the lot file for a reference to terrain paints and remove it from the lot? If so, would doing so bork my graves and custom paintings?

Drat, I had specified that this post go in the "Oops, I Broke It" section. Add this to the list of things I've broken.

Oh wait...this http://148.122.173.174/pplace/Sims2cat_Main.htm Actually, that's just what I was looking for, thanks. Nothing else gives me pictures that look like much of anything.
