Remove all CC and see if the problem persists.
52  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Getting neighbours in AL to visit you on: 2009 May 14, 05:58:32
If you ask them to come out and you have a good enough relationship with them, they'll come out. Only thing is that they treat the public areas and the inside of your apartment the same - you might have to go inside and call them over to get them in.

Or are you meaning that you can't do things such as invite them by phone, or include them in guest lists for parties? Did you check and make sure the person has a phone?

Installation:

1. Unrar.  This is Duh.
2. Burn or mount the image. Use your shiny new Daemon Tools to mount the image inside the rars to a virtual drive. You've been given help on this program already and it really isn't that hard. Read the buttons in the program! It tells you what it does!
3. Install the game. Use the keygen in the Crack directory on the disc when
prompted for a key. Also not hard. Did you even LOOK in the Crack folder before declaring you couldn't do this? Protip: One file is the sims2 exe and one is not. Guess what they do.
4. Copy the cracked executable over from the Crack directory on the disc to
   your installation\TSBin directory.
5. Play the game.

Seriously, it's not that hard. The directions are oh-so-complicated and scary, but if you just use your brain and read the information already provided to you in this thread and the helpfiles within the Daemon Tools program, this is cake. Your download came with instructions for goodness' sake.
54  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: File from disk (because technically I did break it) on: 2009 April 20, 04:47:28
How is it different? what files do you have?
55  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: File from disk (because technically I did break it) on: 2009 April 17, 12:23:29
 Roll Eyes

The idea is that you download well-researched and well-known antivirus programs such as AVG, Avast and the others mentioned in this thread. You do not download and install ZOMG ANTISPYWARE 2009 or whatever the trojan-of-the-week is the moment you get a popup ad warning you of your "infection."
56  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Sims 2 changing my internet connection on: 2009 April 16, 22:07:20
So... let me get this straight.

You are on broadband, and therefore you don't need to dial in to your connection.

When you play sims, a setting in IE changes that pertains only to dialing in to a connection.

I think I'm missing why on earth this poses a problem. Can't you just leave the useless setting on whatever-it-is that Sims apparently wants it to be and go back to ignoring it?
57  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: On getting rid of duplicate Maxis Bin people and Ottomas... on: 2009 April 14, 18:52:23
Of course he doesn't feed his visitors. Pescado hates the very concept of food, he says so all the time. Tongue I suspect he'll be offended that you suggested such a thing.
58  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: wut EPs are teh bestest? on: 2009 April 13, 09:03:56
it infuriates me when people ask. Just do your own damn research, figure out what content each one adds to the game and decide for yourself which EPs you'd like best.
That has been my intent all along - research. If you feel the need to be infuriated because I've done what you say I should do, well then go ahead and be infuriated to your heart's content.

OH. I see. Research = asking everyone else what is in the EPs and waiting for us to tell you. My eyes have been opened!

I shall never again offer an opinion on the subject being discussed at the time rather than the original post, either, as clearly such behavior is unacceptable to Cyberdodo.
59  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: H&M and IKEA stuff gone on: 2009 April 12, 12:05:10
His advice is to pirate copies of the two stuff packs and install them that way.
60  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Error on "Call to Meal" on: 2009 April 10, 13:21:56
Ooo you're right.

It's been ages since I've done a headmaster scenario and the two result in the same action so I assumed they were the same command, but you're absolutely right.

Meh. Ah well.  Cheesy At least Call to Meal is still useful for playing games of Visitor Rodeo.
61  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Error on "Call to Meal" on: 2009 April 10, 10:59:40
I use it the way Marhis does - a mass "get yer butts over here" button when I have visitors to boss around. That, and when schmoozing with the Headmaster - he's too dim to eat on his own in my games.
62  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: wut EPs are teh bestest? on: 2009 April 09, 09:58:50

A short assessment of the EPs as far as game-play goes:

University: So boring it hurts.
Nightlife: One of the best add-ons I would call it essential.
Open for Business: Thought I would hate it. It's one of my favorites now.
Pets: In one word: Unnecessary.
Seasons: Not of much use either, but you get an annoying penguine to chat with your snowmen.
Bon Voyage: Much like University a game of it's own. Very hard to implement in normal game play.
Free Time: Almost forgot about it. Has some interesting new game features but nothing world-shattering.
Apartment Life: The bugginess it kills us.

So IMO the OP already has the bestest EPs installed (also the crappiest with University). As for the more recent EPs, I would go with Seasons and Free Time before Apartment Life (better/alternatively Mansions & Garden) and Pets, nevermind Bon Voyage. But like others already said this is all really, really subjective.

See, imo this is precisely why these threads are pointless.

For me, I suppose I could get rid of Bon Voyage, and Nightlife sucks except for the dating. However, I could not play without Uni, OFB, Seasons, FT and AL. Except for OFB, our lists are almost opposite.

Why must these threads come up all the time, and why must they be discussed to death? The idea of a "best" expansion is so utterly subjective that it infuriates me when people ask. Why not ask us what your favorite food is, too? Just do your own damn research, figure out what content each one adds to the game and decide for yourself which EPs you'd like best.
63  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The people in the family bin? on: 2009 March 28, 16:01:13
You can delete them using Deleted 2: Electric Boogaloo, which you can find by searching.

You cannot just delete them from inside the game, because even though they're in the bin, they still show up as townies sometimes and can form relationships and/or gossip, and those will be left behind to cause corruption - and even if they don't (because you delete them the instant the hood is created, for example), they still have SWAF files to get rid of, which in-game deletion doesn't remove.

You can either delete them properly using SimPE, or apply a clean template so that they are removed.

SimPE is really not that hard when the instructions are written so that any idiot can follow along, and it's probably faster to just delete them properly than to try to figure out some workaround.
64  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: problems with Seasons on: 2009 March 24, 11:57:32
Yes, you could make an image of the Seasons disk, but if there's a problem with your disk then making a copy of it isn't likely to help.

Try downloading a pirated copy of Seasons and installing from there, if you think your disk is the problem.
65  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Is it possible to hide maxis content from the game? on: 2009 March 23, 08:39:48
I've had the tree "spawning problem" when I use certain downloaded maps. I have to spend hours getting rid of the damn trees...usually one by one.  My son suggested I use SimCity4, load the map, and see if I could get rid of the trees in SimCity4, then try loading the newer map.

I have not tried this. But it is a good suggestion, if you have SimCity4, and want to see if it will work. Otherwise, you just have to give up using those maps, (and there are some very nice ones) or spend hours deleting the damn trees, and now ponds, by hand.

It's been a long time since I used SC4 to make a few terrains and I don't have it installed right now to test, but from what I remember it should be easy to remove trees via SC4 and it's easily pirated.

If it's just one terrain, it might be faster to just take out the ponds by hand, but if this happens to you a lot, it'll be a lot simpler to have a copy of SC4 on hand to whip off the trees with.
66  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Is it possible to hide maxis content from the game? on: 2009 March 23, 05:34:02
I don't think I've ever had a new hood that spontaneously spawned with trees in it... just the surface of the land itself, the roads, and the built-in water features. Trees, ponds, rocks should all need to be added by hand.

Are you using a downloaded terrain when this happens? Because if so, that's your problem. Terrains are made in SimCity4, and some creators go nuts with the tree tool. Every instance of "tree" in the terrain file gets converted to "random item from the tree bin", which now includes that pond.

Say no to terrains with trees spewed all over them!
67  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Skillinator and watering plants?? on: 2009 March 22, 21:46:36
Yes... if you want her to gain Gardening skill in the most efficient way possible, she will go find a plant and overwater it if there isn't anything useful to do. Being overwatered hurts the plant, yes, but each time you water it its health gets a bonus, so the plant won't even be upset by this treatment.

If you just want her to do work that needs doing and nothing else, tell her to Be Farmer. You might need Business Runs You for that.
68  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Reinstalling my Game and Need Advise on Expansion and Stuff Packs on: 2009 March 11, 00:59:48
A quick, self-generating list of worthwhile stuff packs and expansions:

First, find yourself a list of what content comes with what expansion. If you like the content listed, write that one down. If you don't, skip it.

When you're done, a list of the expansions that you should buy will have appeared in your hand as if by magic! Try it!

Oh honestly.  Roll Eyes Here.
70  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sims 2 and Windows 7 on: 2009 March 01, 12:31:40
It's exceedingly simple. Like Pes says, everything snaps together like legos... but they're legos which will fry if you mess it up in a spectacular way.

Every motherboard purchased comes with a manual that tells you how to put the thing together, and it has big !!!!WARNING!!!! pictures when you're about to do something that could cause fryage. Just read the thing carefully. Heatsink/CPU installation is generally not covered 'cause heatsinks differ, but that information is in the manual that came with the heatsink/cpu assembly.
71  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Vista and downloads on: 2009 February 27, 02:25:32

Do you have enough gigs of memory and a competent processor to run both the Vista hog and the TS2 hog?  Craptops aren't known for their gaming abilities, you know.

I have 11.5 GB of free space. I guess that's enough.

Gigs of memory are not the same as gigs of hard drive space...
72  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hack Requests? I'd Like a Newspaper Fix... on: 2009 February 25, 22:25:56
If you were an oh-so-important senior software designer, why can't you tell the difference between an actual bug, and intended behavior that you don't like? These two things are not the same.

Also, your use of "I could care less" is annoying. If you do not care at all, it means you couldn't care less.

Here, have a helpful diagram:

Mmkay. When you get over that laziness thing and test your downloads, let us know.
75  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Large lots crash my game upon loading them on: 2009 February 16, 16:27:03
If you think it's a mod, did you remove your downloads folder and test to see if that eliminated the crash?

If so, did you then do a binary search?
