@coconner your temperature seems a bit high (even though specs for your CPU claim operation temperatures between 0 and 100C as normal)
You might pay attention, not to block the bottom slots for air circulation (put it on a flat surfaces rather than, say a blanket etc.)
Depending on age of the notebook and the environment in which its operated (esp. in areas with cats or bunnies) there might be already some dust buildup in the heatsink which needs attention sooner or later.

...Ah, Leticron, I'm working in something more complex than that piece of code
I think, the first beta will be release in 2 days
You go ahead  Wink Seeing how this was only a quick and dirty "proof of concept" batch, thrown together in less than 3 minutes it certainly doesn't claim to be the final solution. But if you refer to the enablescripterror.package, you just throw in another"if exist" or"if not exist" line. And if you appalled by don't like bat or cmd files for some reason, just run that stuff through Autoit.
But why using a napalm tank to start a camp fire, if a match is sufficient.  Cheesy

@witch: I'm glad it works for you.

It seems that the amount of files declared as bad differs with almost every installation. Some people only had to change a few files while I had to exchange almost the complete bin folder, the complete /bin/bin folder and the complete /bin/help folder.
Which makes absolutely no sense to me -  why should it matter to a game installed in en-US, that some help file in cc-CZ fails the checksum test. Hell why would the game (in worldwide edition) even install some 20 extra languages that clearly never going to be used. Just another EAXis fail (one carried over from TS2 already)

I think you don't have a choice but to start the patch process over and download/replace according to the error messages until the whole process goes through.
The alternative would be to d/l an actual torrent/DDL preferably with an already patched version of TS3.

29  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: "Old Car Syndrome" crash FIX!!!! on: 2009 July 10, 14:26:31
yes, but its a way to do double click an icon and start the game and not opening a directory and delete some files and then run the game.
Strictly speaking, a bat file could do this, and 3booter already performs a cache purge. The thing is, none of these things really WORK.

Absolutely! And that's no rocket science either.

------------------snip-------------------------

@echo off
CD "%userprofile%\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3"
del "*CACHE.package"
if exist "xcpt*.*" del "xcpt*.*"
cd "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\"
TS3.exe
exit

-------------------snap ------------------------------

But it's just another form of voodoo, like Pescado already said. Kind of like your bathtub overflows and as a solution you knock down an outside wall.

30  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Need Resource.cfg help on: 2009 July 06, 22:03:59
The  mere ability to double click  the file so it opens in some editor doesn't  cause any problems.
(I have all kinds of files linked to editors for years).
Much more important would be to know if your Windows is set to hide known extensions or not.
Right-click on that file and see if it isn't named Resource.cfg.txt by any chance.

I'm officially frustrated, and have limited free time to PLAY TS3, much less time to dink around with patches that refuse to work. RAWR!

Nutshell: Originally had RLD, updated to RZR.

Patches here ( http://www.simprograms.com/the-sims-3-patches/patches-the-sims-3/ ) say "the installed game region is incorrect." I tried both, to be sure. Botheration. Game version claims to be 1.0.631.00002.

Tried replacing default Shaders_Win32.precomp, in case the altered Shaders_Win32.precomp was causing the problem. No go.

Tried removing Packages folder. No go.

Tried swapping out default skuversion.txt file for recommended new skuversion.txt file. Nope. Fail.

NOW what?

I was kind of in the same situation. RLD Version with RLD to RZR Patch.
After several fails with the original EAxis Patch I ended up with a half patched game and a borked Launcher.exe.
(Which I still use in cases where jFade's program chokes).
To work around the "wrong region" problem I unpacked the Patchfile first with UNIEXTRACT
That gave me a subdir "Disk1" with the appr. setup.exe inside.
From there I was able to fully patch the game (Thanks to several substitute files generously offered here.  Cheesy
(Especially helpful was the Bin directory uploaded by Zamboni IIRC).

By now almost the complete DVD must have been uploaded so it should be possible to stitch a game (less the data files) together like that.
In case you're still missing any files just say the word andI'll put them on box.net or s/th.

Hmm.  I am getting an error saying it won't work on "this version" of the game. I tried the Razor version patch, since I have arr-style Ts3.

Under Windows you can change that in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sims\The Sims 3\
set SKU to 2 (decimal)
unfortunately I haven't the slightest clue how that's organized in a MAC.

I finally made it to 87% now I'm stuck at \Bin\Sims3GDF.dll
I have the Rld-version and that apparently doesn't cut it even though the RZR patch didn't seem to have updated that file.

I guess I'm giving up, trash the whole thing and stick with yesterday's awesomemod version

35  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Looking for advice on computer fixing/building. on: 2009 June 26, 17:42:37
jolrei is right...the "throwing together" part isn't all that complicated. (It's not like cookie baking either, tho)
Much more important would be to pick the right components (to match the board, the purpose and even play nice with each other).
I usually start with the CPU and then the board (with the correct socket and all the extras/features I want/need)
A fan + heatsink which fits the CPU and the board. (don't forget the thermal compound and find out how to apply it correctly)
Next would be the RAM matching the board  for example look HERE
or HERE. Almost all RAM producers have those memory matchers..Google is your friend Wink
Believe it or not...most home build rigs I had to fix, failed to boot up because the owner installed mismatched RAMs or neglected to mind the notch and forced them in the wrong way.

The video card (depending on your needs....for any "office machine" the onboard GFX chip is sufficient).
to find the correct PSU I use This Link (the lite version) and add ~25% to the result for good measure (and future upgrades).

Finally all the rest like Harddrives, housing and whatever extras are still needed (i.e. a tv card or any USB hubs or whatever).

Putting it all together mainly requires the use of common sense, a phillips head and some cable ties. (almost everything is hardcoded, so that it only fits one way...and it doesn't require a hammer !! Wink
Most of all: read and understand the manuals and don't put yourself under time pressure

Lol...my klepto mainly stole bistro chairs and some stuff from the art gallery. That annoyed me so much that I changed his trait Wink

But perhaps if you marry off the right ones you can move into an empty house and over time you'll be fully furnished and ready to trade up Cheesy Cheesy

Secret Cow level in D1 ROFLMAO Good times...goooood times  Grin Grin
I am so looking forward to get D3 but that's a different story.
Back to topic: Crosspollination...yeah right!! I believe that "gardening badass" rather forgot, what he planted where.
BTW: My level 10 gardener (with the green thumb trait plus the "super green thumb life time award" can revive Death-flowers more than once.
Not sure if that's a bug/glitch or a feature. Death flowers keep piling up in his inventory and I didn't find any appr. use for them yet
(besides working as a trade off whenever a sim dies by accident...which hasn't happen in my game yet)

38  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Objects I miss on: 2009 June 22, 14:38:04
A big aquarium dammit! I refuse to keep 13 fishbowls in my house. I want one big one with room for 10-15 types of fish. Then you'd look more like a fish enthusiast and less like some crazy fish hoarder.
Same here...much more annoying to me: Fish stay perfectly fine 6 Month+ in a fridge but they die in a fishbowl if not fed within 24hrs.

Even though realism is not a goal in Sims since you can put saltwater and freshwater types together in one pond (hell even my pool has the fish option  Cheesy).
Reasonably well fed fish can easily survive a 2 week lent period.
So I would like to be able to set the feeding minima to about once a week or so and .
I still hope that bigger fish tanks will be popping up at the store eventually.

-le

Edit: OK, one problem solved:I just found CyberOps No Dead Fish for 365 days  which keeps the fish alive as long as you feed it once a year  Grin Grin

Well...perhaps it is time for me to get glasses (or at least clean the monitor  Cheesy Cheesy )
I believe I have comparable settings in both games.
IMHO TS2 has clearly the cleaner graphics but that's nothing to get all warped up about.
Just look at it like a personal opinion (and you know, what "they" say about opinions Wink

I'm off now checking if for some reason TS3 hasnn't been kicked to the fullest of my GFX capabilities.
Have a nice weekend

@GnatGoSplat: If you compare 2 pictures IMHO it doesn't matter if you do that on a cheap graphics system or on an expensive one.
It's not about absolute numbers...much more about the subjective impression you get while comparing these 2 pictures.

And I'm sorry....but TS2 looks so much better (even on my shitty cheap onboard chip  Roll Eyes) (or do you think it is BECAUSE of my shitty cheap onboard chip ?)
If you seriously don't see that, with your expensive un-ancient and un-crappy card then dear sir you might have been cheated and lied to by your hardware supplier  Grin Grin

41  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Anisotropic Filtering: Turning it on on: 2009 June 19, 01:14:39
@Rockermonkey: Yep, that's what I have here 32-Bit Vista with 2GB and said onboard chip.
I didn't want to crank it up all the way right from the start, since I just (hopefully) recovered from a nasty nvlddmkm.sys error.
I installed the latest detonator and haven't have a crash since (knock on wood).
I might crank it up in a few days but I don't expect too much more improvement.
Let's face it GFX in TS3 compared to TS2 are just crappy.
As for the chip not beeing on the list....conspiracy theory or not I suspect EA leaving that out on purpose
That way, a lot of people with low end cards go out and jumpstart the market.
But if you test any arred version first (and buy only the games which deserve it), you'll just know when it's time to buy better hardware.

From what I have seen, kids that are taken get put into other households. I had twins taken by the social worker and found one living with a neighbor just down the street, I found the other one living in a house near the beach.

Did you (or anybody else) already find a way to "beat the system" and get your kids back ?

45  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Inexplicably foreign launcher on: 2009 June 18, 15:29:31

...Brauchen Sie nicht das Launcher.

A little German Hint Wink
Wer brauchen ohne zu gebraucht, braucht brauchen gar nicht zu gebrauchen   (meaning: "brauchen" has a "zu" in infinitive form  and therefor doesn't belong here) Grin

In short: online Translators are evil and never really get it right. Especially since the English (and also the Dutch) Language in this  context doesn't distinguish between 3rd and 4th case (Dative and Accusative)
In your example it should be: Gebrauchen Sie nicht den Launcher
oder besser:
Benutzen Sie nicht den Launcher!

47  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: 155 thousand error messages and still going - Revised on: 2008 July 07, 15:45:02
Go ahead and try the free lite version. It's totally sufficient for its purpose.
Just remember and add ~30% to the results .
All you have to do then is look at a retailer for a matching PSU and check for 18 Amps on the 12V rail (23A if you have a PCI-e graphics card)
and you're all set.

As a techie I realized that especially those complete packages you buy from  HP/Compaq, Dell, Gateway etc. are notoriously underpowered so that the slightest change in hardware could throw them off.

Despite the higher price I would try to avoid no-name PSUs Wink

49  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: New hard drive. Is this going to work? on: 2008 July 05, 21:00:04
..Finally (and I know this is a long shot, which may make my previous to questions irrelevant) is there anyway if I stick the two hard drives in together to just copy the entire lot over to the new hard drive without having to install again? Normally I wouldn't even bother trying that but I've lost my BV CD and the idea of downloading a torrent fills me with dread simply because my internet connection is ridiculously slow. I'm assuming it wouldn't work because the registary keys would still be on the old hard drive and it would mash up all the links which point to the internal files. Just thought I'd ask though because I'm clutching at straws here. It's going to take long enough to install all the expansion packs I have the CDs for without waiting hours days to download something I technically already own.

In a "normal case"  it should be possible, to attach the new HDD to the computer, without removing the old drive and make a 1:1 copy, so you wouldn't have to install anything. How to go about that, depends on several things... IDE or SATA-Drives, what copy-software is available etc. Drag and drop in Explorer does not work (at least not for anything that matters, like OS, Registry etc.), that's for sure. You'll need so called "drive Cloning" soft like Norton Ghost, Acronis True Image etc.

Yeah, it looks like CS is not exactly hack friendly...Carrigon made some stuff that partly works
as for the startup.cheat...forget about it...only a handful cheats work anyways so it doesn't really make any sense
to stuff them into some autoexec Wink
