101  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Deadly Ghosts on: 2009 August 19, 21:25:04
They did say they were moving higher up Maslow's Heirarchy of needs...

Just in case y'all skipped Psychology 101 the day the prof talked about Maslow, here's a link

And I have to say, I cried tears of joy upon finding that they were actually serious and the whole peeing obsession in TS2 was left where it belongs - in TS2.

As for the ghosts...have found that actually killing sims by something other than old age seems to be darn near impossible, so pretty sure there's no scaring them to death either - not even the cowardly ones. When I first started the family I'm currently playing, I kept hearing this 'creepy music' right after everyone went to bed - turned out to be the game's way of notifying me that ghosts were driving by in their ghost cars...but haven't heard it for a while now - they must have decided to stop taking the scenic route.

http://catless.ncl.ac.uk/Lindsay/swatch0.html

I've used that set of pages for colors for some time now for web page colors, etc. The colors and numbers are fairly true (at least on my monitors).

Thought I'd offer that up in case anyone wants hex numbers for more than just the favorite colors. They can make altering color pallettes of patterns easier and more precise, too.

Fixes to Story Progression. Babies will no longer be born to single parents. Player created or controlled households are now "protected" and will no longer be removed through "Story Progression."

I wonder, are they paying our fearless leader for having shown them the light (and possibly the code) to fix those two particular problems among others?   (I know better, but just had to ask...found it hilarious that they just now are fixing the things Pescado fixed weeks and weeks ago).
104  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: What defines "Growing up well"? on: 2009 July 24, 17:06:23
I'm playing with the 190 day lifespan, so I have toddlers for 15 days...it can get a tad booooring, except that I'm flipping between several houses, so it actually works out okay.

Anyway, with 15 days of toddler fun to fill, the trick seems to be the following - keeping them fed and their social up (the teddybear does help with that). Have them learn all three toddler skills. Have them max out both logic and music on the toys. And have them read as many books as possible. Don't bother with the 'Sprocket' books - they don't seem to learn crap from them. But the other books will give them an additional boost in logic, artistry (painting), and writing.

At first I thought that they had to have a parent read with them, but it doesn't even raise their social! So now I just plop the books on the floor and let them read 'em. Only bad part about that is if you have a parent who is a neatfreak - they will pick the books up and put them away - so the trick is to put them out one at a time, have toddler read it and then put it back in bookcase.

Anyway, I've never had a toddler not grow up well, so must be doing something right doing that method.

I do know that with children and teens their 'grow up well' thing has everything to do with their school performance.

The pregnancy thing, I've yet to figure out as with others, I've had some I've ignored and some I've pampered and they've all read the preggers books and sometimes I get to choose one and sometimes two...I've never had a bad enough pregnancy where I didn't get to choose any.
105  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: BREAKING NEWS: TSR INSTALLS SPYWARE! on: 2009 July 21, 22:26:38
Not that I'm very happy at the moment with TSR (I am not - their ads are full of redirects that take over your browser, etc.).

However, NOD32 from Eset scans that program as clean - no virus, no malware. I am running Eset's latest build with the latest update.

Not passing any judgment on the TSR program itself...but, apparently some anti-virus programs are more prone to giving 'false positive' readings.
106  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: New peggy hairs. They doesn't replace anything on: 2009 July 19, 23:00:12
If I may - we need to be EMPHATIC in saying that you should IGNORE Peggy's resource.cfg file - there's something WRONG with it and it will f-up your game.

Use Delphy's - it is the ONLY resource.cfg file you should ever need.

And just in case you're wondering - yes, you can learn from my mistake re this - been there, done that, got the t-shirt.
107  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Trash rummaging and Police report writing on: 2009 July 15, 16:32:33
I'd suggest only doing that with 'slob' sims who don't mind rummaging through trash.

My police track sim was a 'neat' one and it about drove him insane to rummage through trashcans...in fact, I could never get him to do it long enough to compile evidence for a report.
108  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: After jail, my criminal sim just stands in front of the Police Station on: 2009 July 15, 01:35:46
Well that's a new one on me... I'm beginning to think that on some systems the entire criminal career path is borked...the criminal career building is problematic and now this?

I have had criminals spend time in jail, but so far have always been able to get them home once they are free (and into the shower immediately to 'wash the jail out of their hair' - Jackie Brown)...

Oh yeah - is your criminal in Riverview or Sunset Valley?  So far, I've only had criminals in Riverview...so wondering if the problems are with Sunset Valley or as I said earlier - the whole career path.
109  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: What 5 Buy Mode objects would you like Modders to make first? on: 2009 July 15, 01:32:20
1 - windows that coordinate with the doors.
2 - draperies and other window treatments that don't let the window 'poke' through (the ones that came with game are as bad as some of the ones TS2 creators made way back when, makes one wonder).
3 - hanging ceiling lights that aren't grotesquely huge and therefore stupid looking.
4 - a ditto on the shelving unit that came with Bon Voyage (although, I did discover that you can put stuff on top of the dressers!)
5 - a ditto on the aquarium thing...the fishbowl thing is really stupid and you have to click each bowl to have a sim feed the fish.
110  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Socially Deprived Larvae Suck! on: 2009 July 15, 01:18:16
I can put the teddy bear in the crib? who knew? Will definitely be doing that straight away.

I haven't had any twins or other multiple births so far (and that is just fine by me)...so I find that feed/snuggle/put in crib or change dirty diaper/feed/snuggle/put in crib seems to pretty much make happy larvae...

On a side note, all this calling them Larvae makes me think of that sci-fi short story where the babies were all born that looked like worms (no feet/legs) and they put them all on an island and then when they grew up and had children on their own, they didn't know what to do with the infants with legs (was a single generation defect, obviously) and therefore killed them as they had no use for them...anyone remember who wrote that story?
111  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Glitches 101. The Criminal Career. A compendium of Fail. on: 2009 July 11, 16:58:58
Just out of curiosity - Sunset Valley or Riverview?

I have a klepto on the thieft career path in Riverview (one from top now) and have not encountered the problems you are having.

However, I have heard of this before (discussed on official forum)...so now am wondering if only reason I have not encountered it is because my criminal is in Riverview as opposed to Sunset Valley?

113  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Things you DO like... on: 2009 June 21, 22:24:20
I'm finally getting used to the different style of playing...I'm actually liking the aging of the whole town thing after all...at least now their peers age at roughly same rate as they do...

I like the 'puddingness' of the sims...could be cuz I'm pretty 'puddingy' myself...

I really am liking the personality trait thing - the sims are more indivualistic than in 2.

I like that it's okay to let the kids be kids and they don't have to spend their childhood learning all the time - and as teens they have plenty of time to learn, too...which is also to say that I like having the flexibility to age sims slower or a whole lot slower.

Cell phones are so much better and even kids have them!

I don't plan to have any townies in my game.

Hate to burst your bubble as I had hoped I could have minimal townies or none as well. It's not possible as far as I can tell to play without townies in this game. The only good thing is that so far none of them are as annoying as good ol' Marsha Bruenig.
115  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Oddly fluctuating money, disappearing cars on: 2009 June 14, 15:18:40
Well I clicked into this thread on account of the 'disappearing car' thing - I've had several pregnant sim mothers take their car to the hospital to give birth, but they come home in a taxi - hence the car is gone.  I need to double check and see if the car is in their inventory...or if it's just disappeared.

As for what you're describing happening - gee, more weirdness I'll get to contend with when I finally play long enough to have that happen, too. pffft.
116  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Smelly Sims on: 2009 June 13, 14:44:32
I not only have a slob, I have an 'unlucky slob'...and I suspect that had I also given him the 'inappropriate' trait I'd be hearing a lot more belching and farting than I already do from him.

I also just last night had a sim receive an opportunity - he was asked by the gym to 'not break a sweat' on his workouts since he was stinky. Nevermind the reason he was stinky had nothing to do with working out (I kinda just forgot to have him take a shower as there were 7 sims in the household at the time).  So apparently the GAME notices the stench and says something about it, too.
117  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Kids and Toddlers on: 2009 June 12, 19:55:37
I think the static picture was scarier than the video...but shudder. ugh. I have that to look forward to the more kids I let them have in the game?
118  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Narcissa Vatos: Blank Favorites and Perpetual Obesity on: 2009 June 12, 16:44:32
I'm going to bet 'coinkydink'... for two reasons - they come into the game already knowing how to make autumn salad and they don't burn the house down while making it.

Really funny thing re that particular simdish is that I have this very good salad recipe - calls for apples/mandarin oranges/etc. over a bed of 'spring mix' greens...We don't call it 'autumn salad'. I'm not sure it ever had a name - in our family it's the ooh, company's coming for dinner salad.

And there you have it, I realized yesterday, that my poor simmies get stuck living the same kind of life I lead - lonely and boring...I've got to get them out to meet other sims more often...
119  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Narcissa Vatos: Blank Favorites and Perpetual Obesity on: 2009 June 12, 16:33:04
The one thing I'm having great fun with this game is making truly fat and 'husky' sims. Not just skinny sims with a fat gut. I have made zero attempt to make my fat and husky sims slim down or exercise... I suppose the one conundrum I haven't tried, I should - a husky or fat sim who is also muscular...then they should be able to exercise and stay fat, right?

I am also enjoying making truly mean and evil sims. Can't figure that one out...but, could just be that I got tired of 2 being pretty much all 'nice-nice'...although so far, even my mean and evil sims in this one aren't all that bad...although my evil teen now wants to steal candy from a baby...I think I'll try to fulfill that wish if it's still there when I turn the game on today.

I haven't played the 'townies' at all. not my thing. But, I have had one my CAS made teen sims darn near fail high school. He got a really lousy trait when he grew up, Although, I don't consider that to be that big of a deal - kinda more of a challenge to play a 'loser' sim...

Just thought of something - could the 'favorites' have been added as a late addition to the game? And this sim was created and installed in the town prior to their creation, hence she's not got any?  And does it really matter? I've had my sims eat their favorite food and I don't remember there being anything wonderful that happened from that experience. I don't know about the music thing - I've not let any of them have a stereo/radio yet - I'm such a mean goddess. And I've not noticed anything regarding the color - not people wearing it or things decorated with it.

120  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Objects I miss on: 2009 June 10, 14:23:56
don't know what I'm doing wrong, but most of my sims are spending a lot of time in the kitchen so the eating meals together thing isn't that hard (and don't we all spend lots of time in our kitchens).

a hearty hear-hear for the lack of cheap shower/tub combo.

I want a toaster, er a toaster oven - but well something else for them to cook those fricken' waffles in besides the oven.

And I, too, really miss the piano. But, I also remember that the code for the piano was something that was broken every time a new EP was released... maybe they gave up?

A lot of people use their DVD players to burn family photos on to DVDs so that they're not taking up room on their computer's HD or their camera's memory card.  It's not always about the piracy.

I have whole separate from my c drive drives for photos. So that's not an issue. I take photos a 'batch' at a time, remove them from the memory card, clean them up, then load them up to my website...then use them to sell my stuff.

As I said, it's not that I don't have issues with it, and I will tell you that dirty words were said in my household and it WAS removed from my husband's computer when it was discovered there (and not from any sims CD). I will also tell you that other types of anti-piracy software have given me complete fits - on music CD company was so hellbent on keeping everyone from copying their music onto their computer it also kept me from being able to play the music cd in my car or in my home stereo. I, too, understand the need to protect copyright, but making things worthless and unusable doesn't generally do the trick and that is what securom seems to do on some peoples computers - others not so much (and that's a whole other discussion about Microsoft and PCs and I don't have a headache this morning and let's keep it that way, okay?).

Anyway...didn't realize the sims were different (I really pay as little attention to the ones that come with the game as possible) and I had forgotten about the saloon swinging doors and overalls, etc. So yeah, there might be a want for it. But if it's a bugaboo for the OP because of the way she's got the game installed...if the OP could use JFadetool and install it, that would be cool.

edited so the grammar police don't get me.
122  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The whole thing is becoming a big pain in the $%% on: 2009 June 10, 03:44:30
that part I get. I don't want it there, nor like it there...we just aren't going into it tonight, okay?
123  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The whole thing is becoming a big pain in the $%% on: 2009 June 10, 03:23:56
you know, I downloaded Riverview and installed it...and near as I can tell down to the sims and the stores it's the same. The only difference is topographical details...so if you want another neighborhood just clone sunset valley if you're loathe to deal with the download manager.

I know, the anti-sucurom people go bananas, but I've never used my DVD player in this computer to do anything except for to install two games. I don't download and burn cds or dvds or anything of the sort. If I did, I'm sure I'd be as bananas about it as y'all are...in fact, maybe moreso.
124  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: How exactly can you switch households, bork or no? on: 2009 June 10, 03:10:46
Reporting back... playing with the awesomemod installed and my original 8 sim household split into two households and switching back and forth... and so far there's been no big fiery ball in space over my neighborhood or computer.

Any locked wants are lost when the active household becomes inactive, and of course, they continue to age... but so far, so good...

Now I'm going to further the experiment (and possibly more headaches) by trying to add another family across the street from the first house I put in Riverview...

In any case, it's a success...my sims shall live to see another day, now to get back to real life important things like work (ebay).
125  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Sex on: 2009 June 09, 20:16:22
And yet, I recently had my eyes opened at what is beyond the threshold in the US Every Mall staple shop called "Spencers" - a teen hangout around here...they know more about sex than I do. I'm pretty sure of it. So the only people EA is deluding are the parental units.

I know our fearless leader doesn't like to be thanked profusely, but once again, I can't believe I dragged my heels at installing it...it is truly awesome. If only all things in life were as advertised as 'awesomemod' is... If I can only have one, it's this one.

Truthfully, I don't care - they could blur the whole act out and it could be silent or flowery or whathaveyou...I don't play to get my jollies watching pixels mate.
