251  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: super-speed when Servo "powers down" on: 2006 July 14, 03:25:32
My fingers tend to shift back and forth between 1 and 3 rapidly because of constantly speeding boring things up, then realizing another sim in the house is being stupid and about to die, shifting back to 1, then getting them back to what they need to be doing and hitting 3 again, etc etc.

Really though, the automatic speed-up thing annoys me to death, because it always seems to happen at the wrong time, like right when the pregnant sim who is about to starve passes out. Roll Eyes

Sorry, should've replied to this when I first saw it then got distracted. Shocked

Another question/suggestion. Is it possible to make it so you can select more than one item with the individual item button? For example, I wanted to add several new items to an existing collection, and it would have been a lot easier to select those five or six items at once than to click and browse five or six times. I ended up going the batch route and it didn't throw up, but I haven't checked to see if the collection is okay in the game yet.

Well, so far as I know, with the way I've got it set up there's no way to have it select more than one file with the Common Dialog control at a time. Sorry. Sad

Great tool! Loving it.  My only issues have already been mentioned, i.e.; wanting recolors to show up, and being able to select more than one object at once.  Otherwise this has been a tool dropped from the gods

LOL, thanks. Cheesy I too think it would be nice to have the recolors in collections as well, but I guess unless Maxis changes the way the collections work we won't be able to. Undecided
253  TS2: Burnination / Taster's Choice / Re: Testers Wanted: Sims 2 Collection Creator on: 2006 May 15, 20:08:07
I tested this out some this weekend...quite spiffy Smiley

Is there a way, though, to add Maxis objects to a collection with this tool? I'd like to group recolors as well as new objects. I tried pulling in some recolors to see if it would pick up what object it was a recolor in, but no go.

Eventually, I'd like to have the ability to choose maxis objects based on a list of objects that is sortable by each expansion, but I'd have to get the GUID from each Maxis object, and that's something I don't have time to do right at this moment, but it is on my to do list. Smiley

I have other little improvements I want to make to the program as well, but I do want to at least get this first version out there, because it's been in testing for quite a while, and it does work. Plus, I'd like to get away from working on this for a bit and work on some other projects that have been on the backburner for a while.

But, in short, I will add that feature, yeah. Smiley
254  TS2: Burnination / Taster's Choice / Re: Testers Wanted: Sims 2 Collection Creator on: 2006 May 15, 11:24:30
Hmm, so they don't show up when you used the batch add function, but if you try to add them individually, what happens? I'll check and make sure there's nothing wrong with the scanning thing, and if there is I'll fix it. Smiley
255  TS2: Burnination / Taster's Choice / Re: Testers Wanted: Sims 2 Collection Creator on: 2006 May 12, 11:14:12
Thanks everyone. Smiley

Tracy, if it can't find the object's GUID, the object will not be added. In my tests, it has picked up everything though, and hasn't had a problem. Try opening the files that aren't being picked up in the list in SimPE and see if they have an OBJD resource. If they do, they are objects and should be getting picked up (and I'd like a link to the site where you got them and, more specifically, the name of the file I'm looking for Smiley ) but if they don't, that's why it's not adding them. Smiley

americancindy, I was looking into this but I'm not sure what would cause this. If you don't mind, perhaps you could zip up your collections and email them to me so I can see which file is causing the problem, and why?

I added another build, this one adds a feature that was requested to sort the collections so that they show in alphabetical order in the game. Smiley After this, it's time for rewording of some things, and I'll release it! Thanks for the testing so far everyone! Smiley

As for the program itself, I've tried the installer without problems, and I must say the program is pretty much straightforward and easy to use, even the provided icons were more that I could ask for  Well done!
Thanks, but all the credit for the icons goes to JadeElliot, I'm glad she let me include them. Cheesy

I still didn't examined the list entirely, but it seems that it contains the default Maxis objects only, so any custom object should be added using the "Choose object..." and the "Choose directory..." buttons, is that right?
Basically, yeah, when you edit collections it won't show the names, though I am going to add something that will keep track of the names and GUIDs of things you add plus the GUIDs and names of maxis objects so that it will be able to give a name to things when you go to edit a collection so long as you've added them to a collection once before. But I'm not sure if I'll include that in this version before release or not, but at any rate, it'll be there eventually. Smiley
258  TS2: Burnination / Taster's Choice / Re: Testers Wanted: Sims 2 Collection Creator on: 2006 May 05, 03:32:53
Some people encountered problems with the installer (though it works for most, so not sure there), so you can just unzip the Non-Installer version to a folder of its own on your desktop or wherever and it will work from there as well. Smiley
259  TS2: Burnination / Taster's Choice / Testers Wanted: Sims 2 Collection Creator on: 2006 May 05, 03:16:48
Hi everyone! A while back I asked for some opinions at N99 about a program I was thinking of making, a tool to make collections outside of the game. Well, I've been working on it off and on for about a month and a half now, and I finally have something I consider ready for public testing. Smiley

Here's a preview image: http://images.djssims.com/CollectionMaker.JPG

Once you try it, it will hopefully make a lot more sense. Smiley

Basically, it can do all of this:

* Make new collections
* Edit existing collections
* Add objects to collections individually or batch add them by picking a folder
* Back up existing collections
* Change collections from Residential to Community and vice versa.

I did want to have walls and floors as options available for you to add to collections that way. However, there's something about the way the game references them that I can't figure out. I've asked around and no one seems to know, so I'm trying to contact someone specifically who does know, but they're rather elusive at this point so it's hard for me to catch them. (If anyone knows how the game references walls and floors in 3IDR files, please let me know! Smiley )

However, you should be able to continue to add things to collections you've made with the program in the game and then continue to edit them with the program. (If a collection does have walls and floors in it, the program will retain that information.)

Thanks in advance! Smiley

EDIT (7/12/06): To add newer links, update images and some of the info, blah blah blah.
260  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Has anyone run across a hack like this? on: 2006 May 04, 12:33:47
Actually, I just made one of these. Smiley It's available here: http://greensims.net/viewtopic.php?t=2246 until I move it to my site. Smiley
261  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: About LTW Hacks on: 2006 May 03, 03:10:32
That is stupid that they don't have LTW's to fit college track careers.  The LTW's they have now are so boring, I am tired of looking at them.

Same here. If there's two things that I think most people agree Maxis needs to make more of, it's lifetime wants and careers, if not more aspirations period.
262  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Survey at Official Site on: 2006 April 28, 03:30:36
About half of those ideas don't sound much like the sims to me anymore, and seem like they'd be better suited for an entirely different game. Of those that still sound plausible to me, the Outdoors, Pets, and Kids expansion ideas sound good. The rest of them, meh. Anyhow, I'm betting we'll probably find out more after E3. Smiley
263  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Collections files on: 2006 April 27, 12:40:12
I think clothing is possible, though I wasn't aware that clothing could be put into collections until just recently, and at this point it'll have to wait for the following version more than likely. I'm trying to hurry up and finish batch adding for objects, then it'll probably be released to the public. (I still can't figure out how on earth walls and floors are referenced by the game, and no one else seems to know how so those are out for now, maybe a second version will have those. I do have someone to contact but I haven't been able to get ahold of them yet to find out.) Anyhow, I'll let you all know when I have a public and more final beta. Smiley
264  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Alright, 'fess up! on: 2006 April 10, 03:45:16
Well, total, custom content wise, I have 588 MB (617,094,619 bytes) in all my folders.

In just my downloads folder, I have: 449 MB (471,498,567 bytes)
and in all my other folders (SavedSims, Hacks, my stuff, and a few other random things): 138 MB (145,596,052 bytes)

2,276 Files in total. My game takes about 2 minutes to load, so it's fine with me. I don't download much to begin with, and I'm constantly taking things out that I find that I don't like for whatever reason.
265  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Inge where are thou? on: 2006 April 10, 02:59:19
She has posted a list of reasons at her site:

http://www.simlogical.com/Reasons.htm

Doesn't clear things up for me though, I'm still confused, but I'm just glad that Inge's OK and that it wasn't health or anything else similar that caused her to "retire".
266  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: A RUMOUR about the next expansion pack on: 2006 April 06, 05:05:58
I also heard a rumour that it's Vacation coming up next: http://boards.ign.com/the_sims/b5219/113429423/p1/

Well... all I have to say is that if it's a Vacation expansion, hopefully it'll be better and less repetitive than the Sims 1 version of it. I think Vacation was my least favorite expansion, because other than when I first got the expansion, I never sent sims on vacation.  Undecided
267  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Do You Fast Forward? on: 2006 March 22, 23:57:29
Okay, you guys might think I'm nuts, but not only do I play on 1 most of the time,  but I have even slowed the time down to 70-50% of the normal clock using merola's time control clock. The clock moved too fast for me before!
Heh, well, in most cases, I would call you nuts, Tongue but I can see why you would want to slow it down in some cases. For me, in single or small households, it's on 3 or 2 most of the time, but in some houses where I have lots of sims (meaning more than 8, I do have houses with more than 8 sims occasionally, and had a house of 18 at one point), it does get to the point of being rather unmanageable, so I wind up playing between 1 or 2 and pause most of the time so I can queue up commands for the sims, otherwise they'd probably end up doing something foolish (if free will was on, which it usually is) and killing themselves. Smiley

269  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Major Maxis Slipup on: 2006 March 18, 04:46:33
And this isn't an obvious sign that the people who claim it is in decline is right?

Decline quality wise? Definately. Decline money wise? Moot. People are still spending money on stupid crap like this, so I doubt that the game companies are truly hurting for money. At least not in this community. If they're trying to pull this with other games, it's no surprise to me if they are losing money there.
270  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Major Maxis Slipup on: 2006 March 18, 04:14:44
Exactly. And you can thank all the people who paid $15 for the Christmas pack for the fact that they are now coming out with another pack for $20. If this one sells, I suppose the Glamor pack will cost $25.  Roll Eyes

Well, all I have to say is that the Holiday pack was a rip off as well, and I'm glad I didn't buy it. And I agree, it wouldn't be surprising in the least to see the glamour pack priced that much, and I'll bet that a good chunk of people would blatently ignore that fact and shell out the money for it anyhow.

You know, I've been reading a back and forth battle between analysts claiming that the video game industry is on the decline, but they obviously aren't taking the Sims players into these facts, it seems like a large percent of them will buy anything with a Sims logo on it..
271  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Major Maxis Slipup on: 2006 March 18, 03:46:42
Makes sense, I figured they wouldn't be in the packages, and a quick search shows that they aren't anyhow, but it does show that they existed before Open for Business came out, so we could have gotten them with this expansion, but now have to pay 20 bucks for them instead.  Roll Eyes
272  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Major Maxis Slipup on: 2006 March 18, 03:35:02
Well.. Actually.. I went snooping in simpe for something else entirely, and found a couple of the thumbnails as well. I have no idea if they're actually in any of the game files or not, I haven't bothered looking for them because I doubt that they're there, but I may take a look later.

You may want to do a rescan in the new Really Working This Time  Edition.
I redid it and got the same results, except for these two:

free-bob.package: may require possible updates:
    P 0x7F4C04B9 0x0081 name unsupported
    p 0x7F4C04B9 0x0081 name unsupported
free-bob3g.package: may require possible updates:
    B 0x7F4C04B9 0x1000 Function - Main
    P 0x7F4C04B9 0x0081 name unsupported
    p 0x7F4C04B9 0x0081 name unsupported

Just the added "p 0x7F4C04B9 0x0081 name unsupported" line is the only difference. Smiley
