TS2: Burnination / Taster's Choice / Testers Wanted: GLS Forgotten Objects Pet Enabled
|
on: 2006 October 30, 02:25:42
|
Just a quick thing here, it enables all the pet options for the bed, bookcase, and dining chair. I believe that's all the objects that were forgotten and needed updated, but I may have left something out. Could someone with GLS make sure nothing else needs fixed, and that this works? (Since I don't actually HAVE the pack, just the objects.package with the TTABs, BHAVs, BCONs, OBJDs, CTSSs, etc etc from the pack so I was able to make this fix.) Thanks.

I've made a hack for this that should pet-enable them, I'm in the middle of a multiplayer game though, so I'll upload it later tonight, along with a new (hopefully) final beta version of the program. Is it a cool game? Should I get it and go smite some Jfades? It's Civ 4 Warlords, and you're welcome to play if you want to. Glad to see that it's (kind of) working now for some of you. *Runs back to game*

Well it worked on the Maxis Nikko Lounge chair by MaxoidMonkey and it worked on a custom chair (Windkeeper's single tile Merrokan chair) but I still can't seem to get it to work for the GLS tv. Hmm, my TV is all in one package though, but I got it from a house on the exchange. Can you upload your TV (both files) in a zip and let me see what's up with it? Next bright idea... Could you add the ability to "OFB-ize" refrigerators and stoves?
I'll add support for this in the next version. And computers! but I'm content with what I have right now. (unless someone can tell me how to do this myself in simPE?) If you update computers for Pets, they'll also have the OfB options. Have you managed to update the GLS furniture yet, Motoki? I'm not sure where to go to do that, don't really feel like buggering up my game more than it already is... I've made a hack for this that should pet-enable them, I'm in the middle of a multiplayer game though, so I'll upload it later tonight, along with a new (hopefully) final beta version of the program.

Oh, sorry about that, I forgot to reply! Yes, they do need updated, but since they added new joints and stuff for pet animations and the like, Tubs need recloned to be fixed. Sorry for missing it, I totally spaced and thought I answered here, but that must've been at the other forum where this is being tested that I replied to that.

Shiny new version in the first post! This one supports any objects that are compressed. This includes, most notably, preorder bonus items, stuff from the official site, as well as any other custom objects that are compressed (though the GREAT majority are not.) So, provided that the new version goes well, I'll probably release this publicly tomorrow.

Hmm, I have that same TV, I'll try it out on it when I get home. You know though, I'm wondering if the package is compressed? I can't remember if I made it handle compressed packages or not, since custom object meshes are rarely, if ever, compressed. Though now that I think about it, most Maxis CC from the official site is compressed.. I'll check and see what I did when I get home, and fix whatever's broken.

guess I'll be a womrat and test this out. Backed up all my stuff and away we go. One question though when editing an object, what difference does it make when selecting cheap/moderate/expensive? Is it really important in how the object is interacted with or something?
Cheap/Moderate/Expensive tends to mean that there is a standard Maxis "cheap/moderate/expensive" item. There may not be any difference, but that's probably where it will pull the TTAB from, which can affect how the item will be advertised. Exactly, it's really just about advertising, since a more expensive item should be more comfortable, it should advertise higher than something that is cheap. It's really up to you to decide what's cheap, moderate, and expensive, but if you want to go by Maxis standards, just see what's most expensive and what's cheapest in any given category and judge from there.

Hello everyone! I've been working on it for only a short time compared to my other programs, but I believe this is finally ready for testing by the masses! Here's a screenshot: http://images.djssims.com/djspetsccupdater.JPGIt's a relatively simple process: First, load a directory with the directory box on the left, and click the "Pick Selected Directory" button. After it's finished sorting through and leaving only objects in the list, you can then double click an item in the list to see it's description and name and such. If you decide that it is an object you want to edit and make compatible, click the button that looks like a hand with a pencil next to the Step 4 label. Then, choose what type of object it is from the list, and save! That's it! That piece of custom content will now work with pets. NOTE: Please back up your custom content before editing it with this tool! While this tool was very thoroughly tested, it would be best for you to have a backup as a precaution. Feel free to delete the backups after you verify that the edited files are working fine. WARNING: Objects updated with this tool will NOT work with previous versions of the game. (If you use an updated object in a previous version of the game, it will cause the game to CRASH.) Objects that you update with the wrong category will also likely cause strange behaviors or crashes as well, so use at your own risk! As a rule of thumb, however, you should only use this on objects that you know you'll pick the right category for. Download: http://www.djssims.com/index.php?id=346

The problem with straight pie menu rips is that the new pie menu format is NOT backwards compatible. This means a certain amount of chicanery is needed to back-port the actions.
Right, which is why I figure it'd be better for the user to update the object locally. What the creator does, I suppose, is up to them, but I imagine they have only about 3 choices: 1) Make both Pets and pre-Pets compatible versions of an object and offer both for download. 2) Make just a pre-Pets version and rely on the end user to update it. or 3) Screw over the portion of the community that doesn't have pets and only offer a Pets version of the object. The bad part is that every option has a downside.

I'm currently experimenting with an easy way to fix objects, and so far tests are good. Provided they continue to be good, I'll be able to make a program that will easily update most custom objects. However, I already know some things will need to be recloned to work properly. (Tubs and easels for instance.) But the majority of custom things can be easily fixed. At any rate, I'm going to keep working on this and hopefully have a solution soon.

While it isn't automatic, someone requested that I do a hack that makes it so that when you take a shower or bath, you have the option to either change appearance or clothing or both immediately afterwards. I'm still experimenting, but I think I can do it, so I'm working on that now.

FYI: The new/updated antiwatchout hack conflicts with djssims ownable cars cost money hack. Yes, I know necromancy is bad m'kay, but I didn't feel like starting a new thread. File: antiwatchout.package, conflicts: Type = 42484156, Group = 7F4EA230, Instance = 2094 in file djsownablecarscostmoney.package
Ste Hmmm, I'll have to take a look and see if I can make it compatible with the new anti-watchout hack. I'll let you know either way once I get to look at it.

Yeah, I probably won't do a per person type of thing for the taxi, or if I did it would be reasonable, like 10 or 15 simoleans per person. I haven't had the chance to look into it yet, but I will probably either this weekend or sometime after I get this advent calendar done and over with.

Actually, I was toying with the idea of that too, and really it probably makes more sense than charging for the regular cars (though I still will charge for the regular cars in my own game. ) I'll take a look at it and see if I can do it without making things explode.

I've been told several times that §30 was too much, but hey, to me it seems fair, and if you want to change it, just follow the instructions syberspunk posted. That is an interesting point, I didn't think at the time of what would happen if you were stuck downtown because you spent too much on the meal or whatever. I'll add to the test so that if you are on a non-residential lot you have the ability to leave anyhow, and post an update probably this weekend when I try to play catchup with all the other days of the advent calendar I've missed so far because of various reasons, heh.

Hey dizzy! I'm another person you probably don't know, but oh well. Glad to see you're still around and not worm food like Pescado wanted us to believe, heh. Anyhow, I use Ubuntu on my linux box, and I love it, it's great. I would (and do) reccommend it to anyone.

Thanks. I want to make a new version to support walls and floors, but the problem is that I still haven't figured out how the game references the Walls/Floors. :-/ I am going to keep trying to figure out the hashing stuff, but no promises because I suck at anything related to hashing. There is one person who I think has it figured out, and I asked but received no reply as of yet. Then again, it was an EZPM and ezboard is good at eating PMs. (Wouldn't be the first time this has happened, heh.) So I'll email them and see if they know. If not, I'll go back to trying to figure out the hashing stuff myself. I'll keep you all posted though.
