You need to have 'EnableDebugCommands' enabled in the awesomemod configuration to be able to access runstoryaction.
This is clearly where we've gone wrong on our end. I'll see if I can get that to work tomorrow. Thank you for the information.

I had used familyfunds to give all those homeless Sims money with which to move in then made sure I had at least four houses that would fit some of the families.  No one moved in on their own, and now when I run the homeless check for some strange reason most of them are showing 0 for the amount of their money.  I would just love it if Pescado would just make the default method optional for those of us who don't want to go to this extra work to fill our towns.

The familyfunds cheat is working now but I'm still clueless on the runstoryaction.  When I try to run it I get an unknown command type message. Tongue  Perhaps now that they have some money some of them will go ahead and find homes.  Goodness knows, there are plenty available but definitely nothing under 20,000 that five Sims can live in. Cheesy
53  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Is it possible to replace the default skin tones? on: 2009 July 04, 02:20:43
It sounds like you are off to a good start then.  I went and dug up a tutorial which explains how to go through the process.  Granted, it's for a default replacement for an object, but the method is the same.  I used this for making a default replacement for the money tree and have since made a replacement for the baby bottle, and a white road lines.

I also do not like soy or tofu as meat alternatives. I eat nuts and beans for protein.
To my mind, if a person is vegan, I would imagine that nuts and legumes would be the best source of protein.

I wasn't meaning to slam vegetarians in my above post.  I've been around enough to know that simply put, different people's bodies require different types of food.  I do, however, get very tired of those (most likely not here, just in other places I see) talking about meat substitutes and the like.  I can't help but think if a person isn't going to eat meat, why do they want a meat substitute? Cheesy

We actually have quite a few meatless dishes we've come up with, much of them using black beans.  We are very fond of canned black beans for quick dishes because for one thing, they're cheap, and for another thing they are low-glycemic.  One of my daughter's favorites involves black beans, broccoli, tomato sauce, basil, garlic, romano or parmesan cheese and some other seasonings. It makes a wonderful lunch.  We are all terribly carnivorous around here, though.

I've also found that when it comes to foods, we do tend to acquire tastes for a lot of things we don't like to begin with.  I have also noticed there are times when after years of eating something I suddenly can't stand the taste of it. This happened with zucchini two years ago.  It's no big loss since zucchini is mainly just a bag of water with very little vitamins, but it is irritating because I actually liked the stuff before.

Using Awesomemod? Pes is trying to make it more intelligent in placing families, but that is resulting in it just failing to do so because all the families generate with $20k and they almost never get jobs, so they won't earn enough to afford appropriate housing.

1. Cheat console, type "listhomeless"
2. Write down the last names you see.
3. Family fund them some money. I start with $40k for everyone.
4. Cheat console, type "runstoryaction Move In Household"
5. Repeat until you get a message that it failed.
6. Family fund remainders higher amounts of money.
7. Repeat steps 4-6 until all are moved in.

If you have families with around 6-8 members, you may find that they simply can't be placed because none of the lots have enough beds. That can be fixed by shoving beds on lots.

For some odd reason my familyfunds cheat is non-existent. I ran the "help" console after attempting it several times.  Listhomeless works like a dream, though.

Also, is "runstoryaction Move In Household" only a feature of Supreme Commander?  I prefer to play with that part of the awesomemod disabled.
56  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Is it possible to replace the default skin tones? on: 2009 July 04, 01:14:11
Yes.  Yes it is.  My daughter made one for the blue skin.  You need a program like S3PE or one of the other packaging editor programs, then find the file, export it, do the edits, then save and import, then save it as a new file.  Of course those are only the basic steps because I don't have the energy to go into the whole process right now.
57  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: What 5 Buy Mode objects would you like Modders to make first? on: 2009 July 04, 01:04:04
Decorative objects for yard and house.  Houseplants galore!

Lighting, lighting, and more lighting!

Nice outdoor deco, including furniture and more plants, and plants that look good under water!  I am creating a saltwater pond in a Sims' yard.  The bramble and banana plants make great under water plants for it but I need more!

Many more decorations, houseplants, and lights.

And lots and lots and lots more of the aforementioned stuff.

58  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Does the Vegetarian Trait affect anything besides food choices? on: 2009 July 03, 02:33:58
Funny thing.  I eat meat therefore I get plenty of protein, potassium, and a lot of amino acids that aren't in any other food source. When I shop for groceries I'm not looking for food substitutes I'm buying food (whether it be meat, fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, etc.).  I rarely see a vegan or vegetarian NOT look for a meat substitute while shopping.  I see products like tofu being advertised for their meat-like qualities and all kinds of weird things like that.  (I have tried tofu and that stuff is darned disgusting.) If a particular style of eating is good for a person, why do they need to be looking for substitutes for the foods they don't eat?  I don't eat much in the line of grains and I don't bother looking for grain substitutes.  I don't eat processed sugar, and I also don't use sugar substitutes.

Re: comment on peaches and nectarines.  Peel the peaches or eat nectarines!  Nectarines are completely smooth skinned.
59  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Legacy Challenge for TS3 on: 2009 July 02, 20:05:44
All of my Sims will be married before they start producing offspring, but that's my choice. Why should it be enforced on all players?  One thing I always loved about Legacy Challenges is that even though there are rules to follow, there is much freedom in how each player accomplishes their goals. This makes it way more interesting for all players involved.  If people like to torture themselves with single parent families, they can do it.  In the end, that play style will actually penalize them, but it's their choice to play that way.  This is, after all, a Legacy Challenge, not a "Keep the Throne" challenge.
60  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Where are all the townies? on: 2009 July 02, 17:36:33
In Riverview, the pool over by the science building is always a hot spot and the gym seems pretty popular too.  Even with a full Riverview town, I have rarely seen Sims at places like the juice bar and gazebo. Once in a while someone will go to the museum late at night.

I also find it difficult in TS3 to find time to socialize.  There are so many way more interesting things to do! LOL
61  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Think of the children! (Bad Parenting in the Sims 3) on: 2009 July 02, 17:31:19
The Sims you're not controlling seem to get away with a bunch of stuff, like going out and leaving their infant home alone, etc.  I imagine if it wasn't like that, every child in every family not being played would end up being taken away by the social worker.
62  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Legacy Challenge for TS3 on: 2009 July 02, 17:29:40
It was under friendly interactions after they reached friend level.  Darius had a wish to become friends with Claire, and I wanted him to be able to fulfill that wish, so I held off on romantic interactions.  I had another Sim roll that wish as well only to find that they will go straight from acquaintances to romantic interests and completely skip the friend thing, not fulfilling the wish so this time I just worked on the friendship.

I also have run into problems getting Sims to move in otherwise.  If two Sims have a romantic interest in each other I've not been able to find a move-in option, which seems completely ridiculous. The only way I was able to get a romantic interest to move in has been through marriage.

Points for marrying NPCs were taken away from the TS2 Legacy Challenge a few EP ago. NPCs are ridiculously easy to find.
In TS2, yes, the NPCs got ridiculously easy to snag with each expansion.  I've found in TS3 while they are easy to find, the service worker types aren't easy for building relationships because trying to build relationship via the phone is a huge pain in the rear.  Even if a Sim meets them on a community lot and strikes up a conversation, it won't be long before the NPC takes off because they have some motive that needs attention, and after that building the relationship pretty much relies on phone calls until they can be invited over.  It's much, much easier to develop a relationship with a Sim that lives in a house, because if all else fails, your Sim can go visit them.  There's always the chance I am doing something really wrong that is making it harder than it really is. It wouldn't be the first time.

Story Progression should start creating new families once the elder population gets higher. It's not ideal...odds on romancing and spawning on townies needs to be raised. Either way, you're only marrying off one sim per generation. You shouldn't have any problem finding a mate.
Okay, thanks!  A few of the older Sims in that town have already passed on and once in a while I go into Edit Town mode and just click the buttons on their houses to see physical changes in those households.  So far I haven't noticed any discrepancies in aging but that's probably because it's so early.  (Come to think of it, that would explain something I heard of happening in one person's game, completely unrelated to Legacy Challenge but seemingly relevant, where they had switched to play another family, then went back to their original to find that several of the kids' ages were completely off, as in older siblings were now younger, and vice versa).

I think I am going to start over.  I have made so many mistakes and one very bad mistake I made was not thinking things through far enough.  I started out with a male Sim, which was my preferred method for TS2 since if my founder didn't find a mate right away it didn't matter because he could still produce children in his elderhood (although it never took that long to find one).  Starting with a male for TS3 makes absolutely no sense at all because you have no idea how old the woman might be that he ends up with. LOL  My current founder married the one that made the most sense for his lifestyle and lack of house, which was Claire Ursine.  They had several traits in common, one of them being Loves the Outdoors.  What I didn't realize was that poor Claire only had 13 days from the time she moved in to becoming an elder.  I seriously thought about just keeping her around as a housemate and money earner (I decided not to develop the romantic relationship until she had already moved in), but it seemed to me none of the other potentials were made of the right stuff for the founding generation.  They had to hustle to get their family started and with maternity leave she never got to go back to work until the day before she turned into an elder.  It added a fun aspect to the story, though, that she came with her own little bundle of joy from a former relationship. LOL

On the idea of starting fresh, would you all recommend starting in a clean neighborhood where the Sims have been gassed, or start out with the default families in place?  A while back I was having a problem with awesomemod where new families would be reported to move into town but never take up residency.  I'll probably be upgrading to the latest version of awesomemod today.
64  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Moodlets + Six Bars vs. Eight Bars on: 2009 July 02, 08:47:02
In TS2 keeping Sims happy was all about fulfilling wants and keeping their motive bars in good shape.

In TS3 keeping Sims happy is all about either having them do things that make them happy or putting them in comfortable surroundings AND keeping their motive bars in good shape.

I still pay more attention to motives than anything else, although I did learn that in TS3 motives can and should go much lower than they do in TS2 before worrying about them.

I absolutely love the moodlets.  Yes, some of them seem fairly over-powered, but I know I'd be as happy as most of my Sims are if I was able to live outside on a huge lot with a lovely view too! LOL
65  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Legacy Challenge for TS3 on: 2009 July 02, 08:43:25
I started fiddling around with this a couple of days ago, most likely I will end up restarting because there are a few things that are bugging me.

My Sim's oldest son just turned into a child.  He has a younger son a few days behind him.  In all of the population of Legacy Island, there is not one female that will still be of child-bearing age by the time one of these boys take over unless per chance they run into an NPC of a proper age.

And that brings to mind another thought.  Why on earth aren't points awarded for the marriage of NPCs in this challenge?  They aren't always easy to find and they usually have only half of a personality, as in they might have four or five traits but more times than not they only have one or two.  Talk about a handicap.

Sooo, BACK to my original question:  what is everyone doing to assure there is a ready population of marriagables available?  Creating families?  Leaving the "feature" available for any and all Sims to pull larva from their sofas?  I use awesomemod and have Story Progression on, but I don't have parthogenesis enabled because it's so annoying, and I really, really don't want to have to be creating a bunch of families every generation just to make sure my heir has a spouse.

67  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Split character files? on: 2007 January 01, 03:13:30
I will try that Miros--thank you!  His thumbnail is showing in the game fine, just not in SimPE.  When I saw that I nearly panicked--reminded of what happened to my original game after installing Unleashed.  People were losing sims right and left because of corrupted files.  In those cases, the thumbnails in the game went bad with pictures of upside-down witches and such.

Jordi, I went through all my neighborhoods' character files today and every food server that spawned AFTER Pets has the weird file names.  Before Pets they don't.  I hadn't yet checked all of them--which is why I didn't want to blame the whole thing on them being food servers.

I just have no idea if the weird face thing was related to him being a server or not.
68  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Split character files? on: 2006 December 31, 19:29:29
Okay--don't anyone go accusing me of Necromancy because what I wanted to post really belongs in this thread and not in a new one.

I'm running into this same problem in one of my neighborhoods.  It's with a former food server and I'm not totally convinced it's safe to play with him.  Ingame he appears normal, but in SimPE he doesn't.

Here's the story.  One of my sims met this guy at the local establishment.  They got along really well and I figured she could invite him to her house for dinner.  Once he got there I decided I didn't like the hair he had generated in so decided to change his appearance using the Mind Control Mirror.  I grabbed ahold of him and had him go to the bathroom mirror to get a new hairstyle.  Everything looked fine at first, then after his hair was changed I noticed that in his thumbnail, his entire face was missing, like he was invisible.  I zoomed in for a closer look at him and he had a completely different face!  It was a much handsomer face, I'll admit, but something was definitely wrong.

I went ahead and let him move into the household, at which time his face returned to normal.  Even stranger, though, is that not only does he have a character file with a .1 in it, but in SimPE his thumbnail shows up as a Mr. Potatohead.

I won't blame this problem on him being a food server.  I have food servers in almost all my neighborhoods and none has the problem he does.  In fact, my sims have married them and they've never shown any signs of trouble at all (other than the fact they enter everyone's houses without being greeted).

There's also another sim in this neighborhood with one of these odd files.  In SimPE her character file is showing without the .1 but in the character files there's an extra .1 file.  In this case, she's a teen clerk at the local store.

Also, this can't be a lobonanny problem because that mod has never been in my game.
69  Ye Olde Simmes 2 Archives: Dead Creators / Ye Olde Crammyboye Archives / Re: Easel Usage fix (Updated 16 June 2006) on: 2006 July 15, 18:56:26
Yeah!!  Thanks for updating this Crammyboy!  Since installing OFB I admit my sims haven't done a lot of painting and I just realized a few days ago I had a problem.  Of course I was blaming it something else.  I had taken that out then today realized I still had the same problem!

Part of the reason is I only just realized it is that oddly enough, it seems to have been sporadic because I've had some sims paint, stop painting and finish them later, while others just can't continue to paint.

This is one of my favorite mods so I'm glad to see the update. Smiley

AncientSim, this might help you to be able to remember from where your mods came.  I have mine under a folder called Mods, then sub-folders by creator's name.  When I started the troubleshooting process I moved everyone's mods out, then started putting them back in folder-by-folder.  When I put Crammyboy's folder back in and found the problem I knew exactly where to go to find the update. Smiley
70  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Request: dates on: 2006 July 06, 07:52:36
Well, if they have the "have 50 first dates" LTW, it can always be re-rolled using the FFS Lot Debugger or the Renu-U-Sensor Orb aspiration object.  Pleasure sims are a pain in the butt so I avoid them.  I mean I like taking my sims on dates, I just would rather that not be what their whole life is about.
71  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Does Maxis do this on purpose? on: 2006 July 06, 07:48:34
Maxis built so many "cool" features into TS2, but unfortunately no one thought about how uncool and/or annoying they would be after the 100th or so time of seeing them.  (Oh yeah--we all want our sims running to let us know how badly they hate that bare lightbulb we just put on their wall.)

Learn what irritates you and make a list, then go shopping for mods (aka hacks).  There're mods to squelch just about every annoying action in the game, from the toddlers not sleeping through the night to that blasted "furious" feature they added in NL.

As for the down on his luck character, after you play for a while you'll probably notice the same thing I do.  While things are supposed to be relatively random, they don't normally happen that way in-game.  For example, you may play for weeks on end and never see a chance card and if you do always manage to pick the "right" choice, then all of a sudden one sim might get fired or demoted four days in a row.  You may go for weeks without a sim ever starting a kitchen fire, then *poof* your sim with high cooking skills will burst into flames while cooking pancakes and three or four more fires might start within the next couple of sim days.
72  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: boolprop townie generators not working on: 2006 July 05, 18:48:44
Cwykes, just because you have a reporter in the game doesn't mean they're going to come to your lot.  Generally speaking they come at the most inopportune times.  I've had sims run businesses for a couple of sim weeks with no reporter.  I don't believe they're something a business needs and most of the time they're more pain in the butt than not.
73  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: wonder why i can't go to decor shop :( on: 2006 July 05, 18:41:11
Yes, it is sad.  In my main neighborhood the only guy who currently builds any type of robots is an elder and he sells them from his home.  I don't want him to open a community lot business.  I wanted one sim family to buy a Servo so I had him build the Servo then kept it in the back room.  When a member of the family came to the store I marked it for sale and had him immediately show it to that sim.  Voila!  The sale was made.
74  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Face Template Replacements [14 June: Adult Faces 12-27 finished] on: 2006 June 20, 22:40:01
Okay--I haven't looked for a loooonnnng time.  These're awesome!  (Number 4 default is one of my two favorite default faces--funny nose and all.  Hmmm.  In fact, my other favorite, #16, has a honkin' nose, too!  LOL

The great thing is, though, that if a person wants to keep an in-game template you simply don't add the file that will over-ride it to your game.

I am wondering about one thing, though.  Where you raised the faces, will this cause problems when they have children with other sims?  I always tend to raise my sims' eyes to the level eyes should be--eye corners level with the tops of their ears, and in essence raise their faces.  I've noticed not everyone does this, though.  Just food for thought.

At any rate, I'm anxiously looking forward to these!  I like to rotate templates so I don't end up with so many duplicate faces in my game. Smiley
