576  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: KBS Ate My Game on: 2008 April 19, 03:46:58
In my experience, AnyGameStarter/BaseGameStarter must be uninstalled before you install any new EP/SP. Uninstalling AGS/BGS after you install the new EP/SP will not work. I learned my lesson with TSS.

I suggest that you uninstall KBS, make sure to remove any remaining trace of AGS from your TS2 folder, move/rename entire TS2 folder to somewhere/something else, and install KBS again to let the game spawn new default hood as usual. After you started the game and make sure you don't experience crash from the mirror, you can restore your hood. I did the same when TSS ate my game.
577  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: BV clothes without the gay backpacks? on: 2008 April 18, 16:58:04
I actually don't mind the hiking clothes with backpacks.  I just don't like them as everyday wear in the main 'hood.  On holiday, they are fine.

Me too. I gave these outfits only to Vacation Tourists for easier identification. I'm still in the slow process of customizing Vacation locals and tourists spawned with random clothes.
578  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Fears and Wants that don't trigger on: 2008 April 17, 11:58:17
Speaking of which, how the heck do you fulfill the "Win Gaming Contest" want?  My started it, another Sim joined in and lost, and then he just went on and on and on playing by himself.  I had to cancel it eventually because it was time for sleep.

If only I could actually get the gaming contests to that point it would be an improvement. I had a sim start one and when another sim tried to join she turned on the computer, waited, inserted the cd, waited, then just repeated the cycle over and over. Meanwhile my sim has already been playing SSX3 for about 2 sim hours.

You need a community lot with just computers, and no other fun objects. You get loads of people joining then. I have one, I'll upload it later.

I fulfilled the "Win Gaming Contest" want in home lot, but you have to make two playables compete each other. Visitors never join the contest. Waste of time in home lot, as only one playable can fulfill the want. Better to fulfill this want at an internet cafe community lot like Emma's.

Lord Darcy yoinks yet another Emma's lot. Cheesy
579  Darcyland / Lord Darcy Investigates / Re: Kitchen & Bath Stuff Objects Fix - Missing Seasons/FT Functions Enabled on: 2008 April 17, 11:29:07
[edit to speculate] I wonder if they will release a patch to fix this SP before or after the FT patch? Undecided

I don't think EAxis will release a standalone patch for the stuff pack itself. EAxis never released a standalone patch for Teen Style Stuff either, ignoring similar issue with outdated Teen computer and stereo missing BV functions. They included updates only in FreeTime, completely disregarding BV players without FT. (If you want fixes for past EPs, go buy new EP!) Not to mention that those updates were such in poor quality that I had to make yet another fix for those "updates".

Probably they'll include the fix for KBID objects only in the next Apartments L&P, only to botch it royally like that b0rked GLS dining chair disabled for humans in FreeTime.

The PHAIL is more noticeable this time though, even BBS Sheeples are complaining. For once, EAxis may release a patch before they release the next IKEA L&P.
580  Darcyland / Lord Darcy Investigates / Kitchen & Bath Stuff Objects Fix - SNS/FT Functions Enabled (Updated 2008/07/10) on: 2008 April 16, 21:18:31

New fridges, appliances and plumbing fixtures in Kitchen & Bath Stuff Pack are missing functions added after Seasons. Official stuff pack objects working no better than some outdated custom objects, how lovely. They're based on Pets version, so none of Seasons functions (Get Leftovers/Stock/Compost) and FT functions (Serve Platter/Tinker) are working.

This mod will enable all missing Seasons and FT functions for KBID objects.
Only needed for Seasons or later EPs. Not needed for Pets or older EPs. At least Sims can bathe dogs in the new clawfeet bathtub. (And thank God for that, updating pre-Pets bathtub would have been a nightmare.)

There are 3 versions of this fix. ONLY choose one of them, depending on your latest EP and patch.
If you use FT version when your latest EP is either Seasons or BV, the game will throw an error whenever you mouse-hover on the K&B Trash Compactor.

  • zLdDarcy_SP7KBIDObjectsFix_FTp2.package: Your latest EP is FreeTime, and have applied the 2nd patch or later
  • LdDarcy_SP7KBIDObjectsFix_FT.package: Your latest EP is FreeTime, but have NOT applied the 2nd patch or later
  • LdDarcy_SP7KBIDObjectsFix_SNS.package: Your latest EP is either Seasons or Bon Voyage

List of objects fixed by this mod:

  • Solid Sense Fridge by Romantic Notions (Fridge - Romantic) : Get Leftovers/Stock (SNS), Serve Platter (FT)
  • The Coldinator by Kitchensations (Fridge - Stylish) : Get Leftovers/Stock (SNS), Serve Platter (FT)
  • Garbage Ninja by Kitchensations (Trash Compactor Stylish) : Compost Contents (SNS), Tinker (FT)
  • Big and Brown Dishwasher by Romantic Notions (Dishwasher - Romantic) : Tinker (FT)
  • SuperJet Corner Shower by Sleek Sensations (Shower - Stylish) : Tinker (FT)
  • You Got Feets Bathtub (Tub - Romantic) : Tinker (FT)

I also updated some of codes for KBID Coffee Maker, 2 Toilets and Microwave, just in case.
Some bits about PlantSim toddlers and temperature were missing.

Seems that EAxis is almost expecting for modding community to clean up their mess. Base game compatibility my arse. How could it be THAT difficult to check the latest EP upon installation? Or to provide a simple patch on the official website, so that later EP owners can enjoy new functions? If an average player like me can make a quick fix with third party tool just in one day, then bunch of PAID professional programmers can damn well find a workaround, if they only care. This is just pure laziness.

2008-07-10: v1.01 - Added a new version for FreeTime 2nd patch or later. Fixed the wrong pie menu text of Romantic Dishwasher in non-English games.

The second and third FT patch updated most of K&B objects to FT, but EAxis as usual did a poor job, fucking up pie menu text of Romantic Dishwasher in all non-English games. "Get Out of The Way" will come up instead of the appropriate equivalent of "Tinker".
Also, the patch didn't update some missing codes in K&B Coffee Maker, Toilets and Tub, which may or may not affect the gameplay in a subtle way. It's possible those missing bits are never used in game anyway.

If you're playing game in English and do not mind those missing codes, you can remove my fix. But if you'd rather get missing codes just in case, or if you're playing non-English game, get the new version for FT second patch. (Don't forget to remove the old version.) The installation location was changed, please read the instruction carefully.

This fix was rolled into Stuff Pack Objects Fix Collection for Apartment Life in Apartment Life. Remove it, and get the new AL fix.

Installation:

FreeTime (Unpatched or Patch 1) and Seasons version

Place in your My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads folder.
(Or in a subfolder of Downloads folder.)

 FreeTime Patch 2 version

  C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 FreeTime\TSData\Res\Overrides
(or the corresponding folder on your system if your game isn't installed in C:\Program Files)

DO NOT remove z- prefix in the filename. It is for ensuring that the fix is loaded after SP objects, overriding original settings.

Changelog:

 v1.0: Initial Release.
v1.01: Added a new version for FreeTime 2nd patch or later. (2008/07/10)
Fixed the wrong pie menu text of Romantic Dishwasher in non-English games.

581  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Children's workout cloths on: 2008 April 16, 21:03:34
And I'd like to know more about this weird TSR tagging. How can we know if our downloads are infected, and how, exactly, can it be removed?

There was a thread about this issue.

TSR Spyware is an innovation that appeared within the last year and afflicts all .package items in zips. Sims2packed items are unaffected. It is believed to be embedded in all items downloaded within the past year, whether free or not. Based on our available information, we would classify this on the terror scale as a Yellow security threat: it is malicious in nature, but of limited potential for damage.

It appears to be some manner of polymorphic viral string. We have witnessed files infected by it where the string appears to have multiplied itself within the datafile, as well as been infected by other polymorphed variants of it, which sometimes have also multiplied. We believe that it may be an early attempt at a virus intended to infect your other sims files, but it apparently does not work entirely right and only manages to infect itself.

The customary method is to acquire two different sources of this file, tear the package apart into its component subfiles, and then hex-diff the file. The virus is pretty primitive and only appends itself to certain filetypes, so once you have two samples with different polymorph variants, you simply truncate the file at the first difference between the two. This is not a process suitable for home processing, because it requires two samples of what is known to be the same file, but we have this automated at PMBD.
582  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: how do I update radios to free time on: 2008 April 14, 11:59:28
I tried this with one of my custom stereos.  All pie menu functions showed up except for "tinker".  Is that what I should expect?  How do I get the tinkering thingie to come up?   Cheesy

Unlike TVs, I couldn't find a way to enable "Tinker" in custom stereos yet. I replaced pie menu with extracted stereo semi-global, but no joy. Even freshly cloned custom stereo doesn't have Tinker option.

I looked into Guardian BHAV of Tinker for stereos. It's one of those pesky "self-referencing" BHAVs, which checks specific hard-coded GUIDs of Maxis objects. It checks for GUIDs of 2 base game stereos, and prevents Tinkering for all stereos but those two. Which means that even new FT vintage stereo cannot be Tinkered, despite having required SLOT and animations. I guess EAxis did it in this way so that Tinker option does not show up for other types of stereos like jukeboxes or boomboxes, which lack required SLOT and animations for Tinkering. Using hard-coded GUIDs in BHAVs is EVIL, it's a dirty, quick way to do the thing though. (Remember that stupid OFB Decra-Chill display fridge, which wouldn't accept any cakes but 2 base game cakes? Gah.)

To enable Tinkering for custom stereos, either a global mod altering stereo semiglobal or custom Guardian BHAV for each custom stereo would be required. Currently I'm not bothering with either of them, it's not like there is no alternative way to gain Tinkering Enthusiasm.
583  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Lot Debugger Expansion Request on: 2008 April 13, 06:05:44
IIRC there used to be a hack in the Director's Cut to prevent dean's list memory spam.  I'd like to see it back.

Yes, it was called nodeanspam and is still available in OFB directory. I took it out before installing Pets. I'd like to know if it's safe to use in later EPs.
584  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: No CD Crack for Seasons? on: 2008 April 13, 06:00:35
Did you install the Seasons patch? If you applied Seasons patch, the NoCD on GCW won't work anymore, as it was made for unpatched game only. Running the patched game with outdated NoCD will result Unholy Hybrid and should be avoided. AFAIR, NoCD for patched version of Seasons never came out, as there was no pressing demand for it back in pre-Securom days. You could safely run the game with the combination of Daemon Tools and SafeDisc hider.

Download Fixed Image off GCW, mount it on Daemon Tools, run anti-blacklisting tool like YASU or SD4Hide before you start the game.
585  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: A mod to let sims go to work while visibly pregnant on: 2008 April 12, 11:31:48
I have no problem sending pregnant Sims to work by car up until the second trimester. In the third trimester, sometimes Sims refuse to go to work, insisting that they should stay home while pregnant. I guess it's because the birth would take place during the work hour.

What's wrong with "stupid backpack" or "ugly backpack"? Why do you have to associate gay people with anything you find stupid? It makes YOU look like a stupid, uneducated, homophobic bigot.

588  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Question about flags value in skins property set on: 2008 April 12, 05:03:11
I was Townifying some Maxis clothing recolors with jfade's Wardrobe Wrangler, and noticed that "Townify" button sets the flags of custom clothing to 0x10, not 0x00. Official EAxis-made preorder skins also have 0x10 flags. So it seems that removing custom star alone (by editing product and creator value) is not enough to make townies to be spawned with decustomized clothing, you must set the flags to 0x10 as well.

Is it true? If so, what about clothing unlockers? Let's say I made a clothing unlocker for red flamenco dress which is now hidden in CAS by the patch. I extracted the property set for flamenco dress, and noticed that flags value was changed to 0x09. If I want townies to be spawned with this dress, do I have to set the flags to 0x10 like Townified custom clothing? Or back to 0x00, like other EAxis default clothing?

Some FT hidden clothing like H&M outfits or sewing machine outfits have 0x29 flags. Is it different from 0x09 flags that was previously used by hidden clothing?

Juicebadgefix enables Sims to gain badge points for FT badges (sewing and pottery) by drinking Orangeade.

591  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Updated Resources for Video Game Consoles on: 2008 April 07, 17:14:07
How would I update a custom game station (wii, xbox, etc) so that sims would gain enthusiasm while playing it?

Custom video game console is a tricky object to update, as they have modified custom BHAVs to link the main console system to its own controller. As those custom BHAVs contain outdated pre-FT code, you cannot gain hobby enthusiasm from custom consoles. The Instance numbers of custom BHAVs can be different for each custom console, and some BHAVs contain GUID of custom console itself, so I can't provide an updater package which can be universally applied to all custom consoles.

This is the closest that I can get to the universal updater package.

Custom video game consoles often come in 2 separate packages, one for main console system and the other for controllers.

1. Open main console system file in SimPE.

2. Add 2 BHAVs in System/BHAV folder as usual, if they are missing from your custom console. Consoles cloned from later EPs already have those 2 BHAVs. Though it doesn't hurt to replace them anyway.

3. Open BHAV-VideoGame_System.package in another SimPE.

4. In your custom console, look for BHAV named "Interaction - Play". In Plugin View, look for the lines starting with [private...].  In most cases it would be located in 0xD (13). Select it, and copy OpCode.

5. Switch to the second SimPE with BHAV-VideoGame_System.package, select the matching BHAV, and go to the same line you just looked for. Set OpCode the same as your custom console. Commit.

6. Extract the edited BHAV, and replace "Interaction - Play" BHAV in your custom console with extracted resource.

7. Repeat the same process for the "Controllers - Drop Controller".  In most cases you have to edit OpCode of 0x28 and 0x29. Save.

8. Open controller file in SimPE, and replace OBJf as usual.

9. Open BHAV-VideoGame_Controller.package in another SimPE. Edit the GUID in BHAV to match the GUID of main system file of your custom console. Remember that you have to enter GUID backwards.
Sometimes the creator may have forgotten to fix GUIDs in other 2 self-referencing custom BHAVs (Interaction - Dispose - TEST and Interaction - Put Away - TEST), resulting in unusable controllers. Make sure they match the GUID of main system file of custom console as well.

10. Extract the resource and add it to the controller file. Adjust Instance number if required, to avoid conflict with the existing BHAVs.

Unlike Maxis console, custom video game consoles purchased from OFB business won't come with their own controllers. You can sell them to customers, but they will go to customer's inventory without its own controllers. I couldn't find a workaround for it yet.
592  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Improved Anti-Humble: WANT/DO NOT WANT on: 2008 April 07, 09:07:44
Humble computer cannot be placed on OFB shelves, just like Teen computer it's based on. I noticed that 0x004F in OBJD was set to 150 (decimal), not 0.

Stupid and lazy EAxis, they still didn't fix this bug in updated Teen computer included in FT Overrides either.
593  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Annoying FT-introduced FX on: 2008 April 04, 18:27:37
Rather than leaving the alien spawn in my game, I quit without saving, then went back and killed off the father-to-be a couple of hours before the birth was to take place.  (This being the only solution I could think of, since I'd saved the game already with him pregnant.)

I keep InSim OBJ version in my game to abort unwanted pregnancy. Unlike DEST or SIM version, OBJ version is quite safe even it's not updated for new EP, as it doesn't interfere pie menus on Sims or ground.

Patched and applied NoCD. So far, no major showstopper for me. In unpatched game, Sims refused to blog complaining bad mood while the ticket machine is on, even they're in perfect mood. This bug seems to be fixed by patch.

Too bad they didn't fix that annoying lag that happens every time Sims leave or arrive at the lot by car, or when Sims leave for/arrive from the community lot.
596  Darcyland / Lord Darcy Investigates / Re: Decustomized and Updated Maxis Official Objects/Clothing (Updated 2008-04-04 on: 2008 April 04, 02:20:29
I read above that these were all updated up to Free Time, but they shouldn't all require that EP to function properly, should they?  I know that the TV will have tinkering enabled, so that cannot go in my BV game.  I'm wondering about the clothes, decorative objects, and the BV lamp.  Do they have some sort of enthusiasm linked to them?

Update is done only when it's required, like GLS TV or Coke Fridge. I wrote down the details of update for each object in the first post. If it does not explicitly say "Updated to XX" or "Requires XX", it will work for any EP.

Decorative objects like paintings or sculptures do not require update. They're just made recolorable, which has nothing to do with EP compatibility. Arts and Crafts enthusiasm for painting critique is handled globally, so it has nothing to do with the painting itself.
Decorative objects now give appropriate Enthusiasm in FreeTime when viewed, not just the default Arts & Crafts Enthusiasm. Small sculptures can be placed on the decorative slots like mantels or low dressers, and they work as valid centerpieces. They're still compatible with base game though, unless otherwise specified.

As for BV lamp, I edited only OFB shelf placement value. Not sure if it'll work for pre-OFB game, but by this time nearly everyone has at least one EP or SP newer than OFB.

598  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: FreeTime Patch Released on: 2008 April 02, 13:39:21
Sure there were numerous bugs in TS1, but at least bugs fixed in previous EPs STAYED fixed in new EP. Back in the days, Maxis had the common sense to build new EPs on the base of already fixed files, not to go back to borked old version.

The only drawback of TS1 is that to uninstall one EP, we have to uninstall the whole game and start from the scratch. I could have lived with that, given that the alternative we've got now is one humongous borkpool.
599  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: FreeTime Patch Released on: 2008 April 01, 11:48:36
AFAIR bedside was borked ever since BV first came out. Why does it take more than half a year for a bunch of paid programmers to fix* it, when Pescado alone was able to provide the fix in a matter of days?  I almost assumed that increased decay of BV seashell collection was in fact an intentional feature. Some are even older bugs dating as far back as NL/OFB, like afhairmediumcenterpart hair or missing Primp. At the very least, they could yoink Pescado's fixes already, just how could that be so difficult?  Roll Eyes

* Not that I'd believe it until I install the thing myself.
600  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: FT - Hunt Bugs on: 2008 April 01, 02:30:42
I wonder if that works on the USian version.

I think it will work, as Sims games are always multilingual, they never make separate patches for each language. I'm guessing that they're using non-US EA sites as a test-run, so that they can quietly pull the patch without much repercussion to avoid another fiasco like that fucked-up second Seasons patch with screaming babies. Just one more example showing that EAxis is effectively treating customers like they are beta testers.

I'm not going to touch the patch with ten-foot barge pole until new NoCD comes out, no Suckurom thanks.
