It's the EAxis school of dunderduncehead coding at work.  Install the Pets patch.
52  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: bringing money home from uni on: 2007 December 02, 20:08:30
My YAs appear to leave their (private) dorms and return home with their proportionate share of the household income at the time they left campus, plus the standard $20K.  I.e.  Abigayle Montrose returned to her hood with $36,000 in her bank account, while Cody Swan had $27,500.    While both were on the dean's list, Abigayle had more roomies than Cody.

When they graduated, was anyone left behind in the dorm or was it emptied out? My kid had 5 roommates, 2 of whom have graduated and only got the standard $20k when they went back to Strangetown. So I am wondering now if you'll only take the surplus money home if you're the last one to graduate and you leave the lot empty behind you. And I have to leave a placeholder there for various reasons after all the kids graduate.

I guess I'm just going to take the money home in inventory statues to be safe, but I'm still curious as to how the game calculates this number.

I never leave any private dorm empty. At least one playable YA is always in residence and I rotate my play so there's always some teen in the background, waiting to go to Uni.  I will admit I've never bothered to track the household wealth of each dorm, but am pretty certain that all my graduates have more than $20K when they land back in the neighborhood.    I have a couple more who just graduated and are hanging around their dorms; will make it a point to note their bank accounts when I move them back to the hood.  BTW,  I don't have no20khandouts.

Well, since you think it's related to one (or more) of your DLs, you could always move out your DL folder to confirm and if your hunch is correct, go into tedium mode and start your treasure hunt.

Or, post an error log (see FAQ) and maybe one of the kind MATY souls will interpret it for you.

Probably did.  Off to check my "furniture" subfolder.
56  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / My talking table is mute on: 2007 November 24, 19:33:10
Since BV was installed, I've been unable to purchase the talking table - a $275 EAxis kitchen-type table.  It shows up as available and can be highlighted, but that's about it.

Curious if anyone else has had this happen.
57  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: More bullshit from Massive Shithead on: 2007 November 23, 15:51:13

By towing the company line.  You'd do the same, most likely, if you wanted to keep making your rent/mortgage payments.  The decision to add SecuROM was made higher up in the EAxis hierarchy.

As to Sam's message, too little too late.  I used to visit the BBS on occasion and help out the lost sheep.  After the SM insults, censorship, bannings, and disinformation, I've never returned to the BBS and never will.  The way customers were treated is reprehensible.  So, I refuse to help EAxis by providing free customer support nor will I purchase any more EA products.

Maybe I'll print this and mail it to the CEO as a Grinch gift.

I second the suggestion that you do a defrag of the drive.   After you've saved the files you wish to preserve.

Warning: Special procedures must be followed when moving in the owner of a community lot business, especially when the originating family will be disbanded as a result of moving: You MUST use the Lot Debugger to transfer their business HQ *BEFORE* moving if moving in and scrapping the originating family. Otherwise the business info will be lost and the game will act like you've never visited your business.

While Fanny holds the deed to Fiddlefern, I lucked out as the business and its good review and perks are unchanged.  It appears that neither she nor the Broke twins really "moved" as they held dual residency at their respective lots and at the Broke/Dreamer joint where Darren was crushed by hail.  Each Sim showed up in the spash screen of their home lot - and as a group at the Broke place.  Before I moved Brett back to his dorm, I checked his bedroom (it was 2 a.m. and everyone was asleep) and his bed linens reflected a body outline but the bed was empty.

I've played this hood since the day the game came out and am just glad it is still holding together.  So far.
60  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Tales from the crypt on: 2007 November 16, 15:01:59
Yeah, we talked about that in this thread.  The screenshot of the Death as a Taurus message still works.   Smiley

That was the popup, but Grimmy wasn't the issue as he didn't hang around long.  I took Pescado's advice and used the debugger to clear out the dead but that had no effect on the family members who had lived at that house and were summoned back.

When I returned to the lot it was still hailing (of course).  Brett Broke and Servo Fanny (the former family servant) were loitering on the sidewalk, next to the tombstone.  Brett's relationships, memories, LTWs, and Uni standing were all intact.  Servo Fanny owns Fiddlefern Farmer's Market with her hubby, Servo BennyOne, but both Brett and the Servo appeared on the splash screen as playable residents.

After turning off the hail and sending the tombstone to the cemetery, I managed to return Brett and Fanny to their respective lots  using the same call-and-propose-move-in technique I had used with Brianna.

Now back to "normal" (whatever that is); confirmed the house was empty and for sale before I bulldozed it.

This can be such a strange game...
61  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Tales from the crypt on: 2007 November 16, 00:59:05
something about threes.
"remember to bring three friends for the apocalypse".

That sounds about right.  Damn Grimmy.  He's a Taurus.  So is my ex-husband.
62  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Tales from the crypt on: 2007 November 15, 14:10:01
Will give that a try tonight.  I had problems with Brandi early on in the game.  Bad genes, maybe.
63  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Tales from the crypt on: 2007 November 15, 04:40:58
Brandi Broke had twins with Darren Dreamer.  They subsequently tied the knot.  Her three Broke boys are tucked away in Uni dorms and aren't played.  The twins, Brianna Broke and Brett Broke, are actively played and live in private dorms in Uni.  Both are finishing their sophomore term.

Brandi kicked some time ago and her tombstone was moved to Pleasant Dreams Cemetery.  Darren turned into a recluse, got fat, neurotic, and died tonight (at age 70) because he was too dumb to go inside after he created a hail storm with the weather machine.

After Grimmy showed up, he took a crap, wandered around the house, and as he was leaving a strange message appeared about him being a Taurus, riding pale horses, and something about threes.  I now wish I had taken notes.

I switched over to Uni to see if the twins would be affected by their dad's death.  While they appear in the household splash screen, both had disappeared from their respective homes.  Scott Flexor and Brianna were about to become engaged.  While Scott and the other YAs living in that dorm retained their memories of Brianna, there was no trace of her on campus (or of Brett, for that matter)   Their disappearance seems to be related to Darren's death by hail.

So, I had Scott call her.  When the option to "invite over" appeared, I chose it and Brianna showed up.  After a bit of romance, Scott invited her to move in and she accepted.  However, I was also given the option to move in her dead parents, Brandi and Darren, as well as brother Brett.  The offer was declined as Brianna needed to write her term paper and I really didn't want her dead parents rooming with the kids.

Brett is still out there somewhere in the ethers; I'll back up my game tomorrow and retrieve him through a "move in" invite.

No SimPE to find out what the hell is going on but I am morbidly curious to find out if Brandi and Darren could actually leave their graves and get their degrees.  Or would that not be a good idea?   Undecided

64  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Please Help- What's Happened to their Free WILL??? on: 2007 November 12, 16:19:13
I do the same thing. I pretty much keep my sims autoskilling or autosocialising constantly. Only permaplat sims are allowed to wander free, as long as they don't interfere with the non-permaplat sims. If they prove to be too pesky, they meditate somewhere until they are needed for something (e.g. cooking lobster thermador for the headmaster) or until they die, whichever comes first.

That's a darn good idea: keep the old folks meditating (and out of the way) until Grimmy appears.   The ultimate hibernation.  Cool.

I am not sure how to post an error log.

Read the FAQ for specific instructions.
66  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: System 32 Configuration? on: 2007 November 01, 02:23:45
Essentially, System32 is a Windoze OS system directory/folder containing .exe files, DLLs and other important little tidbits necessary for your OS to run.

Doubtful that CC is going to corrupt it.  Trojans and their ilk can do damage.

What error message(s) are you receiving?
67  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Sinking BV General Store on: 2007 November 01, 02:04:30
My fourth attempt proved fruitless.  Using yet another SC beach terrain, the BV general store sunk, this time changing the landscape to blinding sand (ala Neriana's) and my attempt to bail out without saving, as Jolrei suggested, didn't work.  The community lots seem to stick.

Since I really was looking for a small waterfront community, I tried the Twikkii Village terrain as a subhood.  I like the size and can set between 10 to 15 lots on those empty beachfronts, maybe more.  My fifth attempt was successful with placing the BV general store, so that lot's problems might be related to elevation.  It doesn't seem to like being close to sea level.

None of my own waterfront homes could be placed, with the exception of one home I had built on the lake in Three Lakes.  I was able to place that particular lot on the waterfront in each of the SC terrains, in Bluewater, and now in Heron Bay [ETA: the fifth incarnation of that subhood].  The lakefront geography of Three Lakes must be more friendly.

With all the fussing and moving things around, my landslide in Bluewater disappeared.  Drats.  Had wanted to take a photo.
68  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Sinking BV General Store on: 2007 October 31, 18:55:12
[  Mind you, I usually build or load lots at the beginning of a play session, so if something goes wrong I can exit without saving.

Didn't have that option.  Heron Bay Outfitters (the BV general store) looked quite nice after I placed it the second and third times.  The water didn't appear until the next time I loaded that subhood.

Also noted last night that I had a landslide in Bluewater.  Part of the mountain terrain slid onto a road.  Luckily the vehicles drive over it so it doesn't interfere with traffic, but am really impressed with the realism the California programmers have brought to the game.

Appreciate the confirmation of the water issues, Veilchen and Jsalemi.  Misery loves company?   Wink

This wouldn't be the sort of U-shaped one with the food stand/shop/snackbar thing in the centre/courtyard, would it?

'Cos I placed that one in one of my 'hoods and it was fine (was not a beach hood).  I was thinking of loading it into my current beach hood (made with a sleepycat terrain) as well.

Yup, that's the one.  It's a neat store and carries just about everything.   Thanks for the tip that it's fine in a regular hood; that will save me some time tonight.

Be wiser than I was and back up your beach hood before loading ye olde general store.
70  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Sinking BV General Store on: 2007 October 31, 15:53:19
Have you tried it with one of the base hoods?

I've been afraid to, ZZ.  I'll try it tonight.

Sleepy's beach terrains have worked fine with custom building, including importing a couple of my beachfront homes from the lot bin.  Since my latest version is screwed, will plop down a few other commercial creations just for the heck of it.

No basement, MissDoh.  It's just a vanilla commercial lot created by EAxis.
71  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Sinking BV General Store on: 2007 October 31, 15:05:21
Being on the lazy side of late, I've tried to place the BV General Store into a custom hood on three separate occasions.  That damned lot sinks, creates ponds on both sides and on any nearby road, and trashes the terrain.  Have tried this with three different beach terrains by Sleepycat and each one has been destroyed.

Is this just another example of miraculous EAxis construction, or are such problems related to a custom terrain, elevation, or other whatnots??
72  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pickpockets are stalkers on: 2007 October 26, 01:15:26
Interesting. He shows up fine for me, and I have the patch and the anti redundancy hack in. I have seen him in Uni and in my hoods beach community lot. My problem with him is that since the patch he has lost his monocle and mo and now has a young face. I liked the old look. No doubt EA will fix this with the next patch or two  Roll Eyes

The charlatan appeared at every community lot in every vacation destination until 13 September, when I installed antiredundancy.  Not seen since.   No patch.   I trust Pescado to fix my game, certainly not EAxis, whose track record sucks.

Moonlitmaiden has recategorised some adult clothing for elders, including the kimonos and mountainwear.

Appreciate the link, Emma.  The kimonos will do quite nicely for my old Simmies.

Does it happen if you reboot your computer?  I know you said the problem returns "the next day," but some people never shut off their rigs.
75  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bon Voyage dissatisfaction on: 2007 October 20, 02:30:07
Well, my elder Sims are going to file complaints against EAxis with the AARP for age discrimination!   Roll Eyes

I had sent a wealthy, semi-retired couple to Takemizu Village for a few days.  When they went shopping in preparation for the tea ceremony, low and behold, no kimonos are available for the oldsters!  Not only do kimonos authenticate the ceremony and make for great photo ops, but they are perfect camouflage for those sagging bellies and boobies.

Come to think of it, none of the vacation clothing is available to elders.  Discrimination!!
