26  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Default replacement thumbnails in Bodyshop on: 2008 June 04, 12:39:59
Thanks, but I've done that a few times already and it isn't working Sad
27  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Default replacement thumbnails in Bodyshop on: 2008 June 04, 11:17:50
I've made default replacement eyeshadows and I can't get them to show up! They do 'work' because in-game (in CAS), the new thumbnails show up just fine, and the actual eyeshadows themselves are perfect. But I can't get the thumbnails to show up in Bodyshop. Is this normal? I've searched and searched and can't find anything. I've deleted every cache-type-thing in the main Documents\EA Games folder and everything in \Thumbnails about 10 times. That's working, as in, everything slows to a crawl for it to regenerate - but not eyeshadow (or other makeup, from what I can see), which is what I want to regenerate. Please advise, I'm at my wits' end! Sad
28  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Feed yourselves, already! on: 2008 May 22, 22:56:03
Do you have a no autonomous fridge use hack? Mine is called ijNoAutonomyFridgesPatchOFB.package. It's extremely useful, but not with the asylum challenge XD Anyway, this is how my sims act with it installed. However, I'm only playing with all EPs up to BV, so this could be a FT thing like you mentioned.
29  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Seasonal Age Project: RFC (Request For Comments) on: 2008 April 30, 19:08:58
This sounds interesting. I'm currently playing my first Legacy and noticed that it was a pain that the adults aged too fast (and as elders as well) because they would technically die (if no Elixir or cheats are used) before their children grew into adults (which isn't realistic). The hardest part was my founder wanted 10 Kids (which I fufilled, thanks to tons of Elixir). It would be nice to have the adults and elders live longer in order to see grandkids, but I agree with others that having babies/kids around that long would really get boring. Is this tweakable to custom tastes or are those values fairly set?

You can tweak any of these mods if you have SimPE. It's fairly easy, just watch out because the values are in hex (converters are easy to find and converting yourself isn't too tricky either Smiley)

This thread and the accompanying discussion inspired me to do something like this myself. ^_^ I used TJ's hack as a base 'cause I wanted the adult stage to get the aspiration boost instead of elder and didn't want to change that on my own. Anyway, the way I've done it is to make seasons 3 days long, then to basically have baby-toddler-child as one year (2-3-7), teen as one year (12 days), YA as one year (this also will lower the number of 100% perfect graduates! Every semester is one day, there's a one day break between year 1/2 and year 3/4 and a 2 day break in the middle. I'm forcing exams at 5pm and I can't wait to start this because it will be hilarious micro-management-of-the-sims-I-like breakdowns-and-motive-failure-for-the-ones-I-dislike fun), adult as '3 years' (32-34 days random, -2 to +8 for asp, so actually 2.5-3.5 years), then finishing with elders (who I hate to play >_<) having a random 6-12 lifespan on top of all this. The total average lifespan is just below "7 years" (81 days, I think - but I think more people will get a bonus than a penalty on the adult stage, so it's basically 7 years), and I think this is fairly similar in days to the basic lifespan. It's just more skewed to adults, and makes sure that the sims experience enough of each season.

I haven't tested this properly yet but I'm really looking forward to it. Now I've finished making my 3 million genetic skins and default replacements I can actually play again! Woo! Grin
30  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: WTF is up with CAS? on: 2008 April 25, 13:21:00
Oh, it's only in CAS? I have absolutely no idea then, sorry Sad I've never had/heard of this problem. I hope you find out what it is.
31  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: WTF is up with CAS? on: 2008 April 25, 12:06:35
All I can think of is that you installed a default replacement for that hair which is either exactly the Maxis red or so similar that you can't tell from looking. Why someone would make this, I'm not sure... Undecided Maybe it's just meant as a template, but I don't see why it wouldn't either be all the normal colours or all red... not just brown becoming red. :S Do you have anything like that in your downloads? Smiley
32  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My plantsim is wilting from lack of water... on: 2008 April 23, 14:35:18
I used to love this set from Parsimonious. I still have the floor lamp, column and shower, even after I cleaned out my cc Smiley It's a bit cartoon-y but it's nature-themed.
33  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: More Awful Than You! October: Fugly Tops on: 2007 October 25, 12:43:17
Hmm, I should download the 34DD mesh, put it on sim-me, and see what it looks like. Maxis "fat" + stretchSkeleton 0.9 make a fairly good approximation of my real life size + shape. I'm betting those boobs are actually more like an F cup - or even a G! They seem almost as big as the adult sim's head! I can put my bra on my head and wear it as a hat, but it's not a very good fit. I would estimate that each of my breasts is around 1/3 of the volume of my head.

No, they're bigger than G. I'm GG cup and mine aren't that big. That's also british GG, which is DD-E-F-FF-G-GG (yay more tmi! But also semi-useless bra trivia)

I have a contribution! (Like, a real one.) "Physically-improbable Slutty Tops for Teens by AngelPerry"... sorry, that's "Fashionable" (where/when, though?). Here are my "favourites":

I have a few clothes at the back of my wardrobe with something wrong with them that I'm planning to fix. Eventually, I do fix them. But I don't wear them before that! And if a top had been sliced up to that degree, or a jacket shrunk that much, I'd just cut my losses and chop the rest up for scraps.

This is bizarre. Ignoring the rubbish way the folds have been drawn, and the fact that an apparently thick fabric is skintight, why be so modest (comparatively) on the front of a top and then have a string at the back?

Just one word to complete the description: "Frontless".

No bonus points though, because it's free (MTS2) Sad
34  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Quick question on lot transplants. on: 2007 September 24, 17:40:32
I think it's only if people move out to move in with other people or if they die that the lot stays how it was. Then again, I've not done that probably since Nightlife.

But, I don't know if sims dying on the lot would cause any problems with moving it afterwards, so maybe that's not the solution.
35  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I DARE YOU - SUPER HACK CHALLENGE on: 2007 September 21, 23:50:13
Is it just me, or does replacing textures in SimPE completely destroy the quality? I noticed it on clothes I wanted to remove the jewellery on, and it probably happened to my two emergency custom furniture recolours, but they were wood-textured and fairly stretched anyway. I've never tried it on skins, because recolouring skins is sooo much work even when I don't have to do it twice Sad
36  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Jul "More Awful Than You": Most Offensive Story Or Movie! on: 2007 September 04, 20:10:22
I like the way everyone has crazy mood swings, particularly those kids. "Yay let's play! Now I kill you! Now let's have a nice family photo!" Huh

I also like how everyone is facing totally random directions when they cry, and grandpa is hiding in the corner Smiley
37  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Werewolves on: 2007 September 04, 16:21:11
They're not just "yellow" eyes like natural amber-coloured eyes - they actually seem to glow (I was thinking some random amber-eyed stray was my super-lame magic wolf, but when I saw the real one I couldn't mistake it). My LotPs have always been a dark, charcoal-like colour, and have very thick coats.

I'm not sure what the other wolves look like - I think I have some but they could just be wolf-like strays. But you really can't mistake the LotP once you see him. Smiley
38  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: More Awful Than You! September: WTF? on: 2007 September 03, 22:07:07

This isn't just an ugly, weird, uncomfortable and slightly impossible-looking bathroom. It's a pay ugly, weird, uncomfortable and slightly impossible-looking bathroom! (It's peggysims2, by juice, first page of member bathrooms.)

The bathroom isn't the nomination, though - just the rug. I mean, look at it. I'm sure many people have one of those rugs in their home - you know, the one where the corner always folds over, or the middle bunches up, and it annoys and/or injures you whenever it does this. But why does someone want one in their game? It's not even some fancy animated rug that is flat and then trips up and kills sims who walk on it or something. It's merely a perpetually crumpled rug, and I just can't understand why Sad

(The miniature bath towel would be my second nomination, though. Even if it's a hair towel, it's still pathetic! Especially in such a huge bathroom.)
39  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Graphical Weirdness in both neighborhood Screen and on lots... Part II on: 2007 August 24, 17:28:06
Is it something to do with having too many sims there? Sometimes I just get slowdown when I have a lot with too many sims (playable or visitor), but sometimes I get weird things happening (not exactly what's in your screenshot, but other weird graphic things). If the pictures on the left are just the sims arriving in the taxi, and it's a community lot, which has visitors, perhaps it's just too much? Have you tried with a smaller family, or a smaller community lot?
40  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Impending BFBVFS? or I forgot I went to University on: 2007 August 24, 17:24:25
If people move in by marriage, instead of mystery sim memories, they'll have the playable sim they married. But their other memories will disappear if you don't use any hacks.
41  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: New EP procedure - would love recommendations. on: 2007 August 21, 20:15:03
You could do what I do, and wait a month or two before installing it.  All of the hacks are updated by then, there's often a patch out, and the major game-breaking bugs are known so you can avoid them.  You've lived without it this long, it's not like you can't wait a little longer.  (I know that almost no one will find my advice palatable.)

Ah, reading this strengthens my resolve Smiley I only managed to wait a week and a half before installing Seasons (probably because my sister, who trashes and remakes neighbourhoods at a rate of knots and thus has no need to be careful, had already installed and was taunting me with the cool things). But I'll probably only be able to wait for a month at the most! XD
42  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Linking custom mesh recolours? on: 2007 August 16, 20:37:38
Crash to desktop? My pc completely froze and needed a hard reset before it could be convinced that no, my network cables weren't all magically disconnected @_@ Well, I'm sure this is the tutorial I need. I think redoing it, I will be more successful. (I'll know where everything is, now Smiley) I don't see any reason this wouldn't work for a custom mesh? The meshes are apparently cloned from one of Echo's rug bases, but I followed the instructions anyway... I must have made a dumb mistake somewhere, that's all. Smiley Thanks again!
43  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Linking custom mesh recolours? on: 2007 August 16, 14:48:56
That looks like what I was after! Thank you! Smiley
44  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Linking custom mesh recolours? on: 2007 August 16, 14:40:56
Thank you! I'll keep looking for a tutorial, then Smiley It is called 'linking', right? :S
45  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Linking custom mesh recolours? on: 2007 August 16, 14:24:20
I have some (decorative bathroom) pipes by ATS. There are 12 sorts, and I've only kept 3 colours. However, I still need 36 colour files, and that's annoying because they're all the same inside (for each colour). Is there any way to link these textures like Maxis counters, beds, etc., are linked? I have no idea where to start. :/ The first thing I'd like to know is if this is possible, and the second is how to go about it. Thanks for any help anyone can give!
46  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Playing with fridge on: 2007 July 18, 12:05:30
Have you seen your bird freak out when a wolf is in the room? Cats don't seem to bother them like they did in Sims 1, but have a wolf where they can see it and they go nuts.

The birds don't seem to freak simply when they see a cat, but when a cat sits by the cage and is watching the bird (it actually comes up in the queue as 'watch', if I remember correctly), then the bird completely freaks. It's quite funny. I don't think the cats actually hurt the bird, though. (I never let wolves in the house, but a few of my houses have cats and birds, and I've definitely seen this reaction from the bird Smiley)
47  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Play Style: The Nitty Gritty on: 2007 July 18, 12:00:00
- are you more into building lots, decorating lots, creating sims, or playing families?
I like all aspects of the game. I love to build and decorate houses, and remodel them as the family who lives there changes. And I love to play the families I make. In this present hood I just started and my previous one I've gone back to not letting anyone die, as opposed to merely making them 'die of old age' as old adults (sim elders make me want to cry. Their animations, their whining voices... bleh x_X) I might keep the previous generations in their own homes, in new houses built for them and friends, or I might turn them into townies. I've not decided yet. I love creating sims, too - that's why I create all my townies from scratch.

- lots: do you play highly decorated, with walls up/cutaway, with a focus on 'whoever has the most toys wins"? Or do you play barely decorated, walls down, with a focus on interractions/spawning?
Um... neither? I play with walls down because it's less laggy and I can actually see what I'm doing! But I decorate my houses as much as I can before they become unplayable. Smiley

- is genetics your thing? Do you like watching spawns, and spawns of spawns for how they turn out? Or do you barely get through one generation before you're off to the next family?
I cycle through the families, generally when the first sim gets married, when the first kid is born, and after that it depends how many kids the family has. But I do like having very long family trees. It's interesting Smiley

- do you build lots of hoods, or have you been playing one or two hoods forever?
I normally only have 2 hoods at a time - the testing hood and the main hood. The testing one has been there for ages now, because, well... it's a testing hood! I'll ditch it only when it becomes unplayable. It's not there for real gameplay. Prior to my cleanouts and discovering of empty templates and replacement face templates I had only had Pleasantview and one custom hood, both of which I played for at least a year. I've been through about 5 for one or two generations after that, and I think I've finally got my game perfect so I can stick with this one. Smiley

- in terms of what your sims do: are you into relationships and interractions, or are you more into how they skill and climb the corporate ladders?
Both! I can't really understand playing in just one way. The relationships are important to me, and many of my sims are knowledge so they need to skill. Jobs are important too because I start with one CAS sim and no money cheats, and play in a vaguely Legacy-like style  (but I'm not fussed about the rules so much, and some sims can marry playables...)

- do you play lots of community lots, or are your sims homebodies?
I only play community lots when I need to find a partner for a sim, or the rare occasions I just feel like it. Otherwise, they stay at home. They generally have home businesses and such.

-city/country/suburban?
It's most like a country village. There's a main square with the shop, the church, the park, the café and then about 5 houses (more as the neighbourhood gets older, but never more than 20). There's normally a lake somewhere, too. I love lakes! Especially lakes with bridges Smiley

- do you do themes? (aliens, medieval, Victorian)
I find themes like that far too restrictive. I normally have a few medieval lots, an alien family or two, some elf-fairy-people who normally have treehouses, some big (well, 2x2, which is big for me) fancy Victorian manor... I believe variety is the spice of life XD

- do you play with pets?
I do, but only cats and birds. The guinea pig-things (I don't remember what they really are) are very boring, and sim dogs are even more annoying than rl ones! I'm really, really not a dog person. But the sim cats are cute. I like the way they sit on pretty much anything, and pounce people. The birds are pretty, and I like watching them fly about (even the weird turning XD), and they're useful for charisma. Not every family has a pet, though. I used to properly breed pets, but now I have one woman somewhere living as the owner of a 'cattery', and anyone who wants a pet uses the christianlov statue and spawns a kitten from some of those cats. I especially like amjoie's cat breeds in Peasantry Smiley

- do you do the vamp/werewolf/alien/zombie thing, or are you more a 'real person' player?
Aliens, yes. I have an alien father replacement for abductions and I make some townies with alien skin.

In my old hood I made a townie with the zombie skin tone... it was quite funny, I made her as the mother of a toddler that I wanted to put in the adoption pool. Later, when this toddler was adopted and an adult, I decided she would have an affair to get back at her husband for doing the same. I forgot that the zombie was her biological mother until they'd already fallen in love... they got married and had a kid through the tombstone, who was very pretty until she aged to teen and turned blue and started to decompose! I made her some special zombie concealer to wear... she was a popularity sim! XD

- hacks: do you like to make life simpler or harder? insim? inteen?
I don't use insim or inteen. I can do pretty much all of that with just testingcheats and some select hacks - the rest I'm not interested in. I like to make things simpler with hacks like macrotastics, but I also have things like no20khandouts. I don't use any mood hacks or cheats, though - even snapdragons feel a bit too cheaty for me!

-custom content: lots or a little? what do you have the most of?
2580 files, 240mb... :x I went on a downloading spree the other night. *smacks own wrist* Anyway, this is a wonderful excuse to open JDiskReport. Yay graphs!!! Apparently, the thing I have most of is hacks - 300 files. Then comes Piggi's Sims furniture recolours, then my face replacements, Avenida Sims build/buy stuff, then ATS build/buy stuff, a generic folder called buildandbuy, then 128 Life Stories walls and floors, 121 Windkeeper doors and windows... I'm seeing a pattern. Doing a pretty rough estimate (I group by creator apart from my hacks folder and my buildandbuy and cas folders for people who I only have one or two files from), 1500+ of my cc files are build or buy mode stuff. So... yeah. If another 500 is hacks and faces, that means I only have about 500 appearance/genetics-related files. I would now continue with facts about my folders based on size, but I think most people don't even care about this stuff with their own downloads folder, let alone someone else's. XD

- and finally, if you share your creations...what do you create?
My sister and I are making a site for our stuff. It's mostly clothes, and generally maxis recolours, or recolours of very useful custom meshes. Down with redundant custom meshes! XD There's also a lot of other people's nice textures put onto almost-the-same maxis meshes.

49  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Huge recolour project on: 2007 July 15, 22:22:13
Real hair doesn't have 'highlights and shading' consisting of big white splodges, though, but I'll admit many of the originals I looked at didn't, either.

And 'real red hair' is far closer to orange than to pink, unless you mean 'red hair' as in 'dyed red' and not the sort of red hair that typically comes with freckly, pale skin (the former might be more common, though, depends where you live).

Personally, I don't mind some dyed-red hair along with the natural, or varying shades of brown, because it allows me to add more realism to my game. But some 'hair colours' (for example, Peggy's trademark yellow-crayon 'blonde', don't know if she's still attached to that), they're beyond naff. Pretty much no matter what you do to them, you can't make them worse XD
50  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: More realistic/difficult relationships? on: 2007 July 13, 15:00:38
I think it's because they're not interacting. Like, with best friends, you can go down to about 20/20 or something, but still be 'best friends'. However, when you interact, it's like it's updated so you lose the best-friendship.

I imagine love works in mostly the same way, but I know people can have a bad relationship (like in a marriage after an affair) and still be in love. But it could be that their LTR was still high enough to support being in love.
