1  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Will the Gardener Ever Be Fixed? Or is it just me? on: 2007 August 21, 16:49:33
Thanks for the input, everyone. Since I have tons of downloads already, I guess I'll go with the perfect plants hack again. I wish there was a cheat that would let you "clean-up" a messy garden. That way, the gardener could come, take care of the plants he/she could reach, stomp and moan about the others, leave, then I'd cheat and fix the rest of them so they didn't die. Oh well, maybe when the next EP comes out they'll bork something that will make gardeners attack plants from all sides again. One can always wish.

I looked through the posts, but the last time anyone mentioned this problem was back when Nightlife came out.

I don't know how long this has been broken, but I seem to recall a time when the gardener wasn't too squeamish to walk on the plants so that he could reach those against the house. Not only that, but he could water them from ANY angle, not just the little notched edge.

Now, though, all the gardener does is take care of the plants that are not "blocked" by anything else, which includes other plants, fences, etc. So, those plants get overgrown and die. It makes it really tough to have a hedge maze or flower field, or even beds that utilize the diagonal flowers on the ends to line up with the house.

Is there a hack or a patch besides perfect plants that will fix this? I don't really care for plastic plants, either, since they just clutter up the build and buy catalogs. I have all the expansions and stuff packs. Or, is it just that my game has really lazy and picky gardeners?

Thanks, magicmoon and Jordi, for your help! Fixing the broadcast.ini in the Celebrations folder fixed the problem. I guess I assumed that the Seasons patch would trump the Celebrations install, since I have to use the Seasons disc to play. Now that it's fixed, my sims can start watching their favorite channels again!

Magicmoon, thanks for the help so far. I checked your broadcast.ini against mine, and everything is the same except for my custom channels, and that I have 12 Maxis channels instead of 11 (my number 8 is the Pets channel, which I think links up with the pets commercials). However, while I was testing the movie files in Maxis channel folders (they work there, so it isn't the movie files) I discovered that whenever I replace the broadcast.ini in the My Documents EA folder, then run the game, the game overwrites it with the default Maxis broadcast.ini. The replacement custom files in the Programs/EA folder remain custom, just the My Documents one is overwritten. I tested the channels on different lots in different neighborhoods, and it is replaced every time, so it must be occuring during the loading of the game. I have NO IDEA why this is, it's the first time it has ever happened, and I suspect the Seasons Patch or Celebration Stuff as the culprits, since you have all the EPs and have no problems. So, that's where I'm at now. Thanks.

I hope someone here can help me, because I'm all out of ideas...I have two custom tv channels, but I recently noticed that when my sims are watching them, the screen is flashing blue. I checked all the usual folders and the Broadcast files, but nothing was overwritten and the movie files are all still there. I think that they might have been broken by Seasons, since the weather channel changes with the season, but I didn't notice the problem until after I'd installed Celebration Stuff, so that might be at fault, too. Does anyone know if the paths for television channels have been altered by the EP or SP? How do I fix it so the movies show up in the game? And if they aren't at fault, what else could be? I removed all downloads except the channels from the folder to check for confliction, but they still didn't work. I hate to delete the channels, because it is much easier to gain Mechanical skill points that way than by studying. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!
