51  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Learning stylist on: 2006 March 19, 19:03:36
I have now set up my styliste at home where there is also a plant and gardening shop.
1) Astonishingly after this first bad series that made me start this thread, she did not spoil any more customers, although she has not yet earned the bronce badge
2) Customers are only interested in buying, not in getting restyled. On my business lots (residential or community) buying any kind of items overruels everything, even piano-playing, whirlpool, coffeedrinking or other usually addictive habits.
3) I made my styliste offer restylings to the customers visiting the gardening shop part of the business to get some practice and customer stars. At first I thought she would not earn money by that because there was no bying action of the customers and no "ping" (well of course, itīs supposed to be a free makeover!!!), but then I noticed that immediately after finishing a restyling successfully a plus of > 400 simeoleons showed over her head (where shortly before there had been a minus of some 200 whatever for - materials?). There was no selling/restocking action at the other part of the business at that time, so it should not have been money from the gardening business showing over her head (she is the owner). Has anyone else observed this?
The combined businesses have only reached level 2 by now (I have not yet been playing them long), but only have minor financial losses, so I (wrongly Huh) supposed there must be some income from the styliste too. But I am irritated - reading this and other threads on styling I am not yet really understanding this whole business. And why is it rated so low compared to buying items? It should be the same kind of sell and buy action, but yet in my game this is not the case.

Well thanks, I hope you will find time to plan your abduction some day ... Smiley So I will just have to be patient (not one of my greater qualities) Sad
I am going offline and say goodbye (I am an the oldfashioned type ...). Was really nice to talk to you. I rarely post because most problems I can solve by trying and testing myself and by reading the threads - but in doing the last I have often come upon your statements and I do like the way you handle people and opinions - thatīs just something I have already wanted to state for along time ...
53  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help needed - coffee or bar business at home on: 2006 March 17, 14:23:22
Well I can tell you that when I put those bars on community lot businesses I own and am running, the sims still don't come to them. Of course, if I visit that lot with another sim instead of playing the owner then suddenly they all flock to the bars.  Roll Eyes
Thats just what I find so strange! I know you do some modding yourself - couldnīt you find out why the behaviour is so different? (I am a very apt PC-user with all kinds of premade programs, but I am just a horrible coding dude!)
54  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Learning stylist on: 2006 March 17, 14:16:31
Thanks a lot for your advices (Pescados was just what I had expected, thatīs what I love about this site ...).
My sytliste is already a senior and has maxed or nearly maxed all of her skill so it should not be that (but one never knows ...). I have already run on squinges hacks and downloaded them, but usually I do no like cheating except in emergency situations. But I like Motokis suggestion of the vanity mirror - stupid that I did not think of that myself! As I do not want to spoil the carefully designed makeups of my family members, that sounds a good option! Thanks!
55  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help needed - coffee or bar business at home on: 2006 March 17, 14:04:20
Hi Motoki, nice to hear from you. I like your sensible opinions very much! I tried and removed all distractors from the accessible area of the lot, and one of the customers was visibly hungry, and still they ignored the coffeebar as well as the drinkingbar - just as if they were not there.
Perhaps someone who knows a little bit about the way objects are rated and coded can look if there is something in the background that does hinder customers to recognize these objects as usable on residential lots (in difference to community lots). And if - perhaps this could be changed?Huh
The strange thing is that there are no problems at all with the restaurant podiums, they work on residential lots as effective as on community lots.
I am getting already disappointed with OFB, since there is not enough variability in the businesses you can run. For the type of the family I am currently playing a beauty-parlour with a coffeeshop would just have been the thing that fitted them - I donīt want to run another restaurant, bakery, toyshop, flowershop ....
56  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Learning stylist on: 2006 March 17, 11:34:48
Might be a quite stupid question but:
How do you teach a playable sim stylist qualifications without spoiling the faces of your whole neighborhood?
57  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Help needed - coffee or bar business at home on: 2006 March 17, 11:27:03
After successfully running a restaurant at home (I had recategorized the needed objects into a residential collection) I tried to have a home coffee-shop. But all visitors of the home-business simply ignored the coffee-bar and its barista.
Anyone knows any help? There used to be a hack at MTS2 for residential baristas, but can this used with OFB? (MTS2 seem to be down at the moment, at least I cannot access there). Or is there another problem that hinders townies to recognise a coffee-bar on a residential lot (while they crave for it on community lots)?
Also noted: Since OFB private bars on non-business-residential lots have been annoyingly upgraded in attractiveness, all private visitors and family have become addicted to drinking, even when there is enough food available! But when I had a bar with barista on my residential-business lot the same happened as with the coffee-shop: The bar was totally ignored.....
58  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Any successful gym? on: 2006 March 15, 23:06:44
I definitely think having hot tubs there is a bad BAD idea. Ever since the base game sims have always been obsessed with it and good like get their ass out of it once they get in unless they're about to starve to death or pass out from exhaustion.

Until OFB hot tubs being obsessive was true for residential lots but not for community lots with workout machines present. Neither on my Campus community workouts nor in the Maxis prebuild Downtown workout (donīt know its english name) towny visitors seemed to be the least interested in the hot tubs, they just headed straight for the workout machines. Only at home I had to fence in all my hot tubs.
Then after OFB I tried and put the counter on a residential lot which was fully equipped, and I opened the access to the hot tub, which had always been extremely attractive to all private visitors. And - surprise - customers of my new business were not interested in the hot tub nor the music instruments not the bowling allley - they just headed for the only treadmill on the lot, used it (with a lot of angry stomping by those that had to queue) and then immediately after quitting left my lot again ....
Sometimes the behaviour is just too stupid .....
I always hoped that one day Pescado would write mods for the attraction/obsessiveness of hot tubs on residential lots and workout machines on community lots - but seems I am unlucky this time....
59  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Community Lot items at home on: 2006 March 08, 22:12:57
You can do it with a hacked collection (putting community objects in a communitycollection and then change it to homecollection with SimPE). There is an instruction guide somewhere out there, but I cannot remember where that was. Perhaps someone else can give you the link.
It is really very easily done, but nevertheless it means using SimPE (which some players have a dislike to or are afraid of and I do not know what kind of player you are).

60  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: FFS OFB Compatibility List on: 2006 March 08, 20:01:14
Ragged lines under what circumstances, though? It seems like the Bad Mouth interaction after a Sim has become furious will generate them no matter what and isn't related to the usual dangerous buggy causes.

Two times when I was game testing in Veronaville with a CAS-Sim from the new Maxis businesszone. At that time I barely noticed it and did not mind since it is not my gameplaying hood (and Veronaville seems to have been bugged anyway from the start).
Last time in my neighborhood when a Sim I have been playing for a long time was visiting a business on another residential lot (not beeing playable therefore at that time). She was talking to her aunt, who is running the business, but I noticed too late to switch to the playable Sim and see what the topic was. I cannot remember her having any furious reactions since her birth, but I will check her memories. And I have had furious reactions pre-OFB, but never any ragged lines (but I am also bad mouthing extremely rarely...). I will look into that. I would be happy if this is nothing serious. But I never had ragged lines in endless hours of game playing NL, and now three times in two evenings with OFB?HuhHuh
61  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Post problems you've noticed, on: 2006 March 08, 19:34:26
When I order groceries, it appears that both refrigerators are filled at the cost of one - but I do plan to confirm this tonight by letting them bake their brains out till there's no food in either fridge.
Seems to be something similar. There were two fridges and  both could not be filled completely at the same time by the same delivery order (some food seemed to have been randomly assigned to each of them)  I will tell my friend whoīs run into the problem several times in his bakery to check again for more details. (I have not encountered the problem pre-OFB, and I sometimes did use two fridges before). Please let me know what you find out, I am away from home and cannot do any testing myself at the moment.

Is your problem by chance that you have not labeled the items as saleable?  Go to the price tag on the buisness tracker.  If the items are not highlighted yellow then you need to use the 'for sale' tool to set the price.
The bakery/inventory problem or selfcrafted/inventory problem has been mentioned in this thread several times and described in (short) detail, therefore I kept myself even shorter. I myself love speedy reading, but sometimes its better to take your time....  No, I am not the sort whoīs BBS customer ...
I think (and hope) the awsome, important people have already taken notice there is something more in the category "annoyance" and will take a look at it in proper time as soon as more serious issues are resolved.
62  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Post problems you've noticed, on: 2006 March 08, 14:15:40
In fact you have to check the Firing Range, The Armory, The Hack Directory and the Directors Cut (all of them) in frequent intervals. Hackhunting has become an important part of the game - and since most serious players sooner or later end up as MATY customers, Pescado just keeps us trained for the hard world outside MATY by his version of brain jogging!

Is portal deletion still an issue?
64  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Post problems you've noticed, on: 2006 March 08, 12:58:05
Just joining into the choir whoīs complaining about the bakery/inventory glitch (itīs not dependent on distraction nor on lack of money). I hope it will soon be corrected by a hack.
The fridge sometimes is not stocked up properly even when using the delivery option. (Perhaps this has to do with the fact that the food dialog was changed?)
65  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: FFS OFB Compatibility List on: 2006 March 08, 12:39:08
... romance mod is broken ...
...
Perhaps you are using the wrong version (Do not use the Uni version!).

Sorry for bothering! I kept scanning the hackfiles for updates, but missed an update in the Directors Cut, which I didnīt check for some time (thinking I had all I needed). Must be getting old ....

By the way: Ragged lines are back again - although nocorruptdeath is on (and this time I am definietely using the latest version of the hack).
66  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: No restaurants/coffeeshops on residential lots on: 2006 March 08, 11:09:43
Did it with a hacked collection that same day  - home-restaurant works without any problems. When I posted first I was not yet sure that the preOFB version of SimPe is safe to use for converting - well, for all others interested - it is safe.
I just had to cry out loud for once - uahhhhhhh - because of another of Maxis stupidities and oversights which make gameplaying unnessesarily annoying without helpful tools created by intelligent modders (although to be fair I think they really tried hard this time...)
But I know there are more serious issues than that like deadly bugs caused by sensu orb and perhaps more (business dressing bug??).
But I still think its extremely STUPID! (And - sorry to say ZiggyDoodle - I donīt care for guides and what they state. Something is not intelligent just because itīs written in a book!)
67  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / No restaurants/coffeeshops on residential lots on: 2006 March 06, 11:28:28
I did not find the tools to run a restaurant or coffeeshop as home-business on a residential lot (podium, stove, coffeebar). Whatīs the sense in that? Or have I simply overlooked something?
If not I am extremely frustrated ..... (well, there still remains to try it with lot-zoning, but why have it complicated when it could be easy?Huh?)
68  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: FFS OFB Compatibility List on: 2006 March 06, 11:20:59
Sorry to report - romance mod is broken (causing jumping bug, especially - but not only - in sales interactions). Problem has been accurately followed down to only this one hack being installed, on two different computers. I am not the one for error logs, perhaps someone else can reproduce the problem.
69  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Report about a queer death - suggestions and explanations welcome! on: 2006 January 22, 19:20:23
I've had sims that aren't meant to be there suddenly appear without warning pee themselves, and pass out.
Hoped in vain it would be a bug, but seems to be one of Maxis queer jokes.
I delete them.
Why? Well, if that is so - if itīs not a bug but strange humor (JM most probably loves it) - Iīll use this sim and further ones to populate my community graveyard. No more dirty hands from killing CAS sims designated to be ghosts - keeps my character files clean.
70  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Report about a queer death - suggestions and explanations welcome! on: 2006 January 22, 12:17:20
Youīre never sleeping, arenīt you? Well, tight pants probably would be my first thought at that time in the morning!
71  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Report about a queer death - suggestions and explanations welcome! on: 2006 January 22, 11:49:41
I have reported about my teleporting/beaming problem elsewhere (phonehack thread). Lately I must have got a young adult sim teleported on my neighbourhood residency lot without noticing it for some time (therefore I do not know how he arrived, but he definitely was not invited). I only saw him when he was peeing himself in my livingroom. Immediately afterwards he fell asleep on the floor. He could not be interacted with and he could not be waked by stereo or TV. I moved him in front of the house since he was blocking a passage. He slept until the next morning, woke up and immediately died from starvation. The "no uni invulnerability hack" is OFF (!!), since I have not been playing on the Campus lately. The young adult sim was an old campus-friend of the house-owner, who was an elder on the last but one days of his life (and has died in the meanwhile a natural platinum death). The last time the young adult had been officially invited to the house was shortly before installing NL and the patch, there had been no problems then.
What the hell is going on??? (Sorry, no error log, I was too surprised. And in fact, I donīt know if that was an error or some of Maxis weirdnesses?)
72  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So what's been fixed in NL on: 2005 September 16, 23:42:00
Has anybody mentioned the cooking skill bug yet? You know, the one where a sim with maxed cooking skill gets a chance card from work that gives them two more cooking skill points, then they go senile and forget how to cook?

I had wrongly assumed this had been fixed with University. But no, and it seems it can even happen without chance card. I had a sim with all skills 10 (his LTW) and no problems for about 2 Sim-weeks lifetime, but now  suddenly he cannot cook anymore - spontaneously! I suppose since he was mostly doing the cooking for the family, he got himself further imaginary cooking points and thus the bug appeared. I think the bug is not mentioned often because not so many people have sims with 10 cooking points with the coocurrence (is that the correct word?) of chance cards or other ways to aquire even more points. The only 2 sims I had with 10 cooking points (one Pre-EP1, one University) both lost their ability to cook after some time without chance card and there does not seem to be a cure. Perhaps there are some more people who have made this experience, even if it is a rare happening (thats why I did not report it up to now) I would like to see this bug removed - like many other bugs mentioned in this thread:
I agree especially with the bodyshopclothesremoval-, randomcrush-, piano-, memoryspam- and overflow-issues!

73  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Noaging bug on: 2005 July 31, 18:59:50
Probably the same issue: broken aging controller, or "aging off" has been toggled. As usual, moving out to force full reset will clear this up.
Problem now solved! Thanks a lot for your help!!!!!! I return to quiescence again....

74  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Noaging bug on: 2005 July 31, 14:41:23
This is a known effect of any case where you created a normal-neighborhood lot by ripping it from a Uni neighborhood: Controllers such as the Aging Controller self-destruct when they find themselves at Uni, so these controllers are entirely absent and do not function until the lot is reset by evicting occupants.

Thank you very much for your prompt, precise and very helpful answer!!! I think I have understood you in the way (no chance to hide I am not a native English speaker) that if I pack and save a lot from the Campus and then load it into my neighborhood, this lot will still consider itself to be on the Campus. To me this is a very plausible explanation and is perfectly true in Case1, and now kowing about the problem I will certainly avoid this in future. But in Case2 the Sims moved out of the first house and into one of the original neighborhood lots (it is a selfcreated neighborhood), but the bug did not resolve. Should they have moved back into the same house? Or is there another explanation which would help us to reset the aging controller of this family?
Usually a silent follower of your work I am very thankful for all you do and for the help from your hacks and replies, as the game would for long have been unplayable without them.

75  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Noaging bug on: 2005 July 31, 10:24:18
We twice encountered following bug: Sims promoting from University and moving back to neighbourhood do not age anymore.
Case1: Couple of PC students, both graduated , A had party, B moved out without party, A bought house in neighbourhood, B joined in the same instant, both did not age a day. Problem could be solved by moving them out together and moving into the same house again.
Case2: A PC student, graduated but no party, moved into house in neighbourhood. B NPC student, set to graduated with SimPE (did not have your very useful tool by then), still on campus and young adult, invited by A to her house and asked to move in, moved in with proper age transition, but afterwards both did not age anymore (up to that point A had aged normally). Not solved by moving out, aging on/off, boolprop errorfix.
I searched a lot of places for this bug, found it mentioned several times (so we are not the only ones and it does not seem dependent on hacks - by the way we only use yours including the critical fixes and some of TwoJeffs including his critical fixes) but no solution nor explanation.
So I hopefully come to the master of all masters of bugfixes (namely you) to ask for help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
