51  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: The Clear Default Eyes on: 2006 August 28, 16:45:36
Genetically code skins (in SimPe) to not override Maxis skins. So if I download a set, the pale is set to be equal with Sim skin 001 the slightly tan is equal with 002 and so on and so forth. Or in some cases (as with skins with tattoos or scars, I set them to be LESS dominant that the pale skintones so I will hopefully get a skintone that is NOT tattooed or a celebrity skin on each baby).

Eyes are coded to be recessive or dominant.

Hair colors are familied and binned.

All in SimPe, give me a sec and I will find the link to the tutorial...

Editted to include link and because havelock answered their own question. =p

Thanks for the link.  I already have my hair familied and binned (through DatGe though, not Sim Pe) and I use default skin replacements so other than those 4, I don't have any other custom skins in my game so that's not really an issue.  I'll have to source out my eye files and fix those though.

Yeah, removing the defaults didn't change anything.  I'll just go with the contact lenses.  So what is this tricky but doable fix, Havelock?

Hmm, so it seems that my best option is to download contact lenses and use those on the victim Sims and wait until they die.  Grr...why couldn't I just leave those custom eyes alone?!  Gigs and gigs of downloads and I had to go and prune the 2kb-each eye color files.  Sad
Same here i had an blue eye i was thinking how nice it must be in game. After some time i have seen those Eyes in Game i removed it. Lots of Sims with maxis brown default Eyes. I have first seen something is wrong after i got defaultreplacements. Now i have to fix it on my poor Sims. Its doable but tricky.

So why did yours go back to a Maxis default and mine didn't?  Could it be because I have default replacements in my game?  Have you tried taking out your default replacements...which I'm going to do right now...

I can't see into anyone's head, they just have the weird painted on eye color.  It's about 10 of them or so, some are adults who have already had their children and so I don't have to worry about them genetically, but about half have yet to breed and those are the ones I'm most concerned about.  There are a few NPCs who are like that, but they can be easily fixed by just replacing them with clothes with proper eyes.

Genetically code what do to what?

So if a Sim with no eye texture has children with a Sim with eye texture, will the children automatically get the textured Sim's eyes or will it still depend on whether the eye texture that I had removed was dominant or not?
56  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: The Clear Default Eyes on: 2006 August 28, 03:11:51
Duh!  I totally forgot Sim Surgery had an "eyes only" feature.  God bless Sim Surgery.  And God bless Blazej Taylor, the seemingly only Sim in my hood with the default brown eyes (for such a dominant color, it's quite rare).

Eh...scratch that.  I just tried changing their eyes and it only made the problem worse.  Now all the Sims whose eyes I'd tried to change have the lightest skintone for their head and their eyes are still the same.

I'm just going to remove Louis' defaults and find another set of defaults that doesn't impose eye color on me.  Maybe go back to Enayala's...
57  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: The Clear Default Eyes on: 2006 August 27, 16:49:44
That's actually what I'm doing right now.  I'm just changing the clear gray color in the skin files to a nice brown color.

I actually tried changing their DNA in Sim PE but it didn't work.  But I've had a lot of DNA weirdness with Sim Pe.  Are the default eye colors 000000# like it is for skin and hair?
58  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: The Clear Default Eyes on: 2006 August 27, 15:44:05
Hey, Bluesoup's back!   Cheesy

I do have Louis' skins, and I use them as defaults so everyone has them!  Grr...why would she do such a thing?  I wonder if I can just remove them from the skin package.  I don't want to have to put contacts on half my neighborhood and then on their children and then their children's children...

Thanks Eleonora!  Grin

Or rather the eyes that all of my Sims get when I remove their previous custom eye color.  I thought it would naturally return to one of the Maxis defaults but instead it reverts to this freakish clear color.  I tried changing the color to one of the defaults in Sim PE in the Sim DNA tab but it didn't work.  What should I do?
60  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / "Booty Call" hack on: 2006 August 25, 03:52:16
Sorry it's so crass but I couldn't think of anything else to call it.  Tongue

Basically, I'd like this hack for my Professional Party guest Sim who is also a married Romance Sim trying to reach the woohoo with 20 different Sims ltw.  When she gets back from work, she's still got more than half her energy bar full and her husband and kid are asleep.  It would be nice if she could choose a speciall call option on the phone and get a directory of lovers and crushes who will come over no matter what time of night it is.
61  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: This Sorority is Cursed on: 2006 August 24, 01:48:39
You know, I forgot about this because it happened so long ago. I have an area in the University neighborhood that has a problem. Any lot that I put in that area didn't work right. I finally moved all my lots out of there, then put a large empty lot in their place so I don't build there in the future. I wonder if you have a similar problem? My lots have been fine since I moved them.

Hmm, that could be it.  I have been putting each lot in the same spot.  (It's on top of a hill, I like view).  I'll try that.  They can still throw parties.  The only problem now (so fars as I know) is the jumping and the no notification.

I'll move the lot and see if that helps any.
62  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: This Sorority is Cursed on: 2006 August 23, 07:30:07
Do you have Inteen? If you do, you often lose the 'go to class' warnings and upcoming warnings for finals. They have a hotfix called "Go to Class notification" that you can download to fix the problem.

If you don't have Inteen, then I don't know what your problem is. Sorry.

I think that was a pre-NL patch problem and I have the OfB version installed.  And this problem (the no notification) only started when I moved into this particular lot and it is the only lot that exhibits this problem.  So I'm guessing it's yet another isolated lot issue that just happened to strike a household that has had two previous isolated lot issues.  Sad
63  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: This Sorority is Cursed on: 2006 August 23, 02:45:28
I've had the Lot Debugger for a while and used it many times on the sorority (the first lot) and it never worked.  I finally just gave up and dumped the lot.  I also tried to force an error and every object and then all of my photos taken with the camera reward object started flashing blue so I won't attempt that again.

I do have the Inteen, something I'm regretting more and more each day because it's causing more problems than it seems to be worth, which is basically my perverse fascination with miscarriages.  I will go and download the hotfix from the site and see if that helps any.

I should have written down what the debugging log said when the errors popped up.  Something about a tree...  I will go back and see.

Lot problem after lot problem.  The first lot had the stuck move-out bug and I finally had to get rid of it, the second, aside from being one of those nice to look at but inconvenient to play lots was riddled with the jump bug.  Now the third lot I have moved this sorority into gets occassional jump-bugging as well as no automatic reminder to go to class, even though they are in good moods.  I have a frat in the same college hood and that one has had NO problems and it can't be individual Sims because many have come and gone.  Is it just bad luck or is there some sort of misogynist game glitch for Uni Sims?   Huh

65  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Using Backup Lot files to replace corrupted current ones on: 2006 August 07, 06:49:21

I should also have added that I do this when I move Sims into a previously-occupied house.  I just hate furnishing the things, so I move them in, then replace the file with the copy I made after the previous family moved out.

Ooh, I never thought of that.  That's genius!  I'll have to remember to do that next time.  I really need to start writing down which families are in which # lots.
66  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Lifetime Fears on: 2006 August 07, 01:35:32
I'd love to have Sims in permanent aspiration failure.  I could do this to a bunch of townies to make my downtown more realistic.  What's a downtown district without a smattering of homeless raving lunatics?
67  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Using Backup Lot files to replace corrupted current ones on: 2006 August 07, 01:33:21
Oh yeah, I know.  I meant taking "dummy" photos so I can replace them with my pictures.

Luckily, I play VERY slowly (I synchronize all the lots, put everyone through Uni and only play on the weekends) so there haven't been any age transitions or major changes, just cosmetic.  I'm mostly concerned as to why the lot disappeared so I can avoid this happening again.  I was so freaked when my game crashed.  I really need to back up more often but it takes up so much space... Sad
68  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Using Backup Lot files to replace corrupted current ones on: 2006 August 06, 09:10:58
Thanks, Ancient Sim.  Luckily no new family members.  Though I will have to retake some photos but it's a small loss considering the alternatives.  Grin
69  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Using Backup Lot files to replace corrupted current ones on: 2006 August 05, 22:32:22
One of my downtown lots inexplicably disappeared and when I tried to play it, my game crashed.  Unfortunately the most recent "clean" version I have of that lot is from end of March!  I could move the family out and then move them into another house but having to redecorate all over again, not to mention, retake some 20 dummy photos and then replace them with my the family's pictures would be such a hassle.  Besides, I really liked that house and don't remember where I downloaded it.

Is it safe to replace a lot file with same file but from another time while the family is still inside?
70  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Talk me out of it, or convince me I am doing the right thing... on: 2006 August 02, 04:31:13
NL is my favorite expansion and added the most to my game in terms of gameplay.  I never played community lots before because of load times.  There wasn't anything to do, and the only reason was to buy food, clothes, and cellphones.  So I got hacks to avoid having to make those trips (and save the $50 grocery delivery dance).  But with NL, I actually have a reason to get my sims out of the house now and then.  Even in Uni, I am starting to enjoy sending my YAs out and doing stuff rather than just College Rampage/skip to final/rinse/repeat.  I also love the chemistry element in NL.  I wasn't sure I'd like OFB, since I wasn't really interested in running a business.  But it is kinda fun and gives a new side of the game.  Mostly I like the features such as being able to stash food away and being able to supplement income with a home business on the side.  But that's just my 3 cents.  Wink

I agree.  Sure, it's a retread of Hot Date but it's a damn good one.  Out of the 3 (4 if you count that which shall get you trashcanned) eps, it's the one I couldn't play without.  The inventory, neighborhood view, cars, being able to jump from one lot to another, being able to go downtown with groups, the loads of new social interactions, it's the best ep yet.  I feel like it's the glue that holds all three eps together and without it, I wouldn't enjoy playing either of the other two as much.  I can't say that about Uni or OfB because the novelty of both wear off quickly due to repetition.  However, I do recognize that University probably added more integral features to the game than any other ep so far.

I wouldn't call myself a completist, I pretty much will buy any ep that sounds like something I would like and also to add something new to my game.  The idea of OfB definitely appealed to me, the execution of the game was a bit of a let-down but I have enjoyed it.  I can't say I've ever had any game-stopping bugs with it and don't have the second patch installed because my game is fine and I'm worried the patch will mess it up but my interest in running my own business is directly correlated to how aesthetically pleasing the business is.  I played the game for hours on end last weekend after downloading a gorgeous boutique set from MTS2.

I would definitely recommend buying/installing it again, there are enough peripheral, non-business related features to make it worth at least 15 dollars and then you can justify the other 15 by not indulging in a frill for the week.  Undecided
71  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Culling Hair on: 2006 July 25, 02:41:04
I guess if you have gigs and gigs of hair, it would be hard.  But if you're like me and EXTREMELY selective about hair then it's not so much.

I pretty much know where I get all my hair from and so when I'm cleaning out the older styles that are sacrificed to make space for the new and shiny, I just return to the site where I downloaded it from, open the file to get the filename and then search for it in my downloads folder and delete it and the recolors.

It also helps when the mesher/recolorer properly names the file like "nameofcreator_number_mesh" or "nameofcreator_number_color".  With how obsessive people are over what they make, I'm suprised more don't put their names on it.

I had a problem with invisible Sims a while back but mine was much worse in that they lost their character data.  Luckily I back up my game a lot so I replaced their character files with backups from a time when they were fine and all was good again.  Maybe you can try that?
74  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Too lazy for Sim Surgery? on: 2006 July 19, 02:56:04
However it's not genetic so if you breed with the patient, your children would have a high chance of being ugly.  And you still have to create a Sim to use, put them in the neighborhood and then go back and delete that Sim.  And if you want to delete their file, that could cause a mess of problems.

I really hate having to go through Sim Surgery but until Maxis gives us a Create-a-Townie tool, I still find it the best way to fix ugly townies.
