Sigh ... I have to report I've failed.  I was unable to play for 3 weeks due to hardware problems and in the excitement of returning to play I recklessly decided to throw a birthday party for Zak.  For some reason I have never had a successful birthday party.  House parties and Weddding parties are always roof-raisers but birthday's always go wrong.  So I had avoided them on the email lot till now.  Sure enough ...  Cry

Thanks all.

I usually go in and drop a bright red-flowered shrub on the corners of the property, save and exit. I have gotten in the habit of checking for the shrub before I'll move a family in because I've screwed up so many promising families with pre-Uni house bullshit.

That's an excellent idea Mokey Hokey - I think I'll borrow that one.
53  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pre-Nightlife Houses on: 2006 January 10, 11:02:56
Thanks Rainbow.  I wish I'd paid more attention when I first read about this but at the time I had no intention of getting nightlife.  So, if I do a clean install and enter all the houses, go into build mode, then save - they should be fine?  I presume this would apply to houses in the lot bin also?  And the maxis sims would be okay since they haven't been to uni - yes?
54  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pre-Nightlife Houses on: 2006 January 10, 10:37:15
JM, does this apply to those maxis houses that already have sims living in them?
55  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pre-Nightlife Houses on: 2006 January 10, 09:21:14
Oh Goody! Thanks for the qucik reply BlueSoup.
56  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Pre-Nightlife Houses on: 2006 January 10, 09:14:41
I have read somewhere (where I can't find - I did search - truely!) that houses that were built before nightlife won't load once nightlife is installed.  Can someone confirm this for me?  Also, if this is a problem, does it affect the Maxis made characters that come with the game (eg the Capps and Monty's)?

I was given Uni for Christmas and have now purchased Nightlife and have decided to do a clean install for all three games, but I am trying to find out about this first.

Any help appreciated.

Awesome Rohina!  Of course Grin.  I had gotten bored with my email family so my computer decided to teach me a lesson.  The CD drive has been broken for the last 3 weeks and I am suffering extreme sim withdrawal!  To top it off I was given Uni for Christmas and I can't even install it.  Aaaah!
58  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Ethiopian Challenge! Because E-Mail Was Too Easy! on: 2006 January 05, 04:55:15
Great stories baratron!  I'm not gonna try this one, but I would like to finish my email challenge.  I'm suffering severe withdrawal symptoms as the CD drive on our computer has been broken for three weeks and my only contact with sims is reading other people's stories.  I'm starting to think I may have an addiction problem!

And seventhson - are you going to tell us?

Thanks for this! Grin

I'm just reporting that it seems to work fine in the base game (no eps).

Only 95 more essays and 80-something exams, and then I can do the next chapter.
LOL!  Now I'm glad I don't have Uni!

I loved your story Rohina.   Grin You've done so well to keep it interesting for so long - I'm afraid I've gotten bored with my constantly meditating elders and haven't played them for a while.
62  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Does anyone know .... on: 2005 December 07, 09:12:32
That would be great JM!  Only problem is I only have the base game - does the skillinator work with that?  Really this is just an experiment - I don't expect them to do that well and in fact thought they would all die within a few days, but they have surprised me so now I've got them all jobs and want to see how far they'll go.  I have just downloaded TwoJeffs no friends req hack and will use that when I am running my 'Freewillys'.

Motoki - please come back from me too!

I didn't read the thread that upset you - but your great sense of humour was a major reason for me signing up here and I miss you.  I usually only lurk and seldom post but I always read any threads started by you.  Don't take any notice of narrow minds - most people here are better than that!

where I can find something that lets sims autonomously learn the mechanical skill?

I have created a bunch of sims to leave running on their own to see how they get on.  I have managed to find an autonomous golf course and a punching bag but can't find anything they will learn the mechanical skill on without my direction.   Huh

Any help gratefully accepted!

Me - 6,6,5,9,8
Hubby - 10,4,9,8,4
Daughter - 4,6,8,8,9
Son - 2,10,9,9,6

Mostly not too far off.  I wonder if our kids would have turned out this way using sim genentics?

Have you tried deleting her with the move_objects on cheat?  Do this then save and exit to the neighbourhood.  When you re-enter the lot she'll be standing by the mailbox and will hopefully be playable again.
67  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Request: Fix for Monday Day Off Penalty on: 2005 November 22, 20:04:35
Hey guys - Please remember that this problem goes back to the base game.  It's not an NL or even a Uni problem.  Those of us with older PCs who haven't moved out of the stone age yet would dearly like fixes that work in the base game.  Whatever you do will be great JM, just if you have a choice about how you do it, a version that works for everyone would be even more awesome!

Climbing on hobby horse..........I'm still peeved Maxis didn't add a 3rd patch to the last set for base game only.  A lot of problems weren't actually Uni problems!...  Climbs off hobby horse...  I guess editing the patch for the base game would be too hard....

I second this totally!

I haven't got round to updating my story (you could probably tell from the first one that stories aren't really my thing Undecided).  All the kids are now teens and Zane and Tamara are due to turn into elder's today.  So far so good.  I grew Averil up the morning of her birthday so I could spend the whole day having her Mum and Dad encourage her neatness points away.  Very tedious but it did the trick.  Zak turned out rather cute so I made him romance.  Dylan is fortune (for no particular reason) and Averil is knowledge because she has managed to retain her stuck smart milk all the way to her teens.  Zak has fallen for my Legacy heiress, Chelsea (also romance).  Normally I would be planning the wedding by now, but they can't marry (against the rules of both challenges).  I might just let them have a child together though since they're both very cute.  Dylan wouldn't use the bushes as a child either, but both boys do as teens.  I am anxiously waiting to see if Zane is going to go all shy on me in his old age.  I have yet to throw a party (I suck at parties) but I think I will for Zane and Tamara's birthday.  (If you never hear anything more from me it will be because I'm too embarassed to tell you I ruined a perfect score with a lousy party!)

Ancient Sim - you forgot to mention Don's floppy hairdo!

8 object errors
7 sims a-jumping
6 standing, sleeping
5 kicky bags!
Four stuck sims
Three pissing nannies
Two stupid bugs

And a $15 holiday pack.
72  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Game throws new Curve on: 2005 November 17, 02:29:27
They did both have the woohoo want at the time.
What sims do has basically no correlation with their wants. Pure coincidence.

Yeah I know, but I can pretend can't I?  I like thinking my little simmies are happy living the lives I've given them.
73  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Game throws new Curve on: 2005 November 17, 01:23:54
Oh wow - that's so cool! Cheesy  I once (and only once) had sims woohoo autonomously.  They were elders that had been married for a long long time and they were always flirting autonomusly.  One sim evening I was concentrating on getting their son to teach his son to study and didn't have my eye on them.  Once the homework was completed I went to find them and just caught the last of the fireworks.  I had noticed that Adam was relaxing on the bed but his wife was in the bathroom when I had last seen her.  I was absolutely floored - I had no idea they could do that. Shocked  They did both have the woohoo want at the time.
74  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Most bizarre problem of the day? on: 2005 November 15, 01:56:49
I very recently had something similar to this happen to me.  In my case it happened when the game crashed and at first I was so focussed on that being the problem that I didn't think of anything else.  I ended up with countless repairmen, most of whom were invisiable.  Thanks to Myth I managed to get the problem largely sorted - read this thread -http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?PHPSESSID=caa812d0efc0497690765dbfac607bb2;topic=1249.0 for all Myth's great advice.  I installed crammyboys portalfix and also tried to replace the missing portal but for some reason I don't seem to have one.  No error log is generated in the lot.  I still have to get rid of excess repairmen occasionally and I am currently experimenting with another hack from MTS2 that may let me re-generate my ghosts on a new lot.  If I can get that to work I think I will buldoze my original lot after all.  For what its worth the best solution may be to trash the lot and start again.  Oh - and put in crammyboys fix as hopefully it will stop it happening again.
