I don't find anywhere to update custom stoves. I imagine it's not an easy and simple fix, but I have one I'd like to see updated. Actually, it's boblishman's ceramic hob. It hasn't been updated since base game. I don't feel competent to just dive in. Any suggestions/ideas/links that would be helpful?
You mean this one? I could have sworn it was updated to OFB. Try redownload. AFAIR this hob lacks an oven like Uni dorm cooktop, so certain meals will not appear. I don't think stoves need to be updated. Like wardrobes, stove pie menus are handled in semi-global level, so they're automatically updated by each EP. EAxis should have done the same thing to all objects, then none of this dance would have been necessary.

regarding the patched no-cd exe, how long do these things take to appear? weeks? months? It depends. Sometimes just a few days, sometimes a week or two, sometimes never. Back in the blissful Securom-free days, patched NoCDs for Sims EPs were virtually nonexistent. There was really not much point to make NoCDs for patched executables which will surely be superseded by yet another EP only after a couple of months, when perfectly working "Fixed Images" were available. Plus Sims is not regarded as a "real game" in the mainstream video gaming scene. Since BV, there was more demand for patched NoCDs. We got the NoCD for the first BV patch after 3 weeks. For the second patch, we got the NoCD only after a couple of days. As the new "upgraded" version of Securom was already cracked for Mass Effect, I guess it wouldn't take a very long time for FreeTime as well.

Has the patch fixed the annoying lag that happens whenever Sims leave/arrive the lot by ownable cars, or walk to lots? The first patch didn't fix it.
Nope. Damn, that was the only real annoying bug that I couldn't find a fix anywhere. Oh well, one less reason to bother with the new patch then...

Didn't the hideous pink phone come with Teen Stuff?
It's obvious that the phone was originally part of Teen set, given that it comes in 4 matching colors with equally fugly Teen boombox. It should have been included in Teen stuff, but EAxis cut it from Teen set for some reason and included in FreeTime. A wise decision, I say, otherwise we might have been stuck with the outdated borked phone like that K&B fridges.

When I start up the computer NVIDIA does warn me that the card is not getting enough power and will reduce performance to prevent damaging the computer (from what I recall it needs about a 350W PSU and my measly Acer T300 only came with a 200W PSU), but I don't know whether to point at that as being the cause of the crash at this stage.
That's the culprit, you lack the power to support your newfangled video card. 200W PSU can't support most of graphic cards on the current market. Changing driver versions can't solve your problem. Buy a new power supply NOW. From my experience, most of pre-built computers come with crappy PSUs to lower the cost, which are barely able to support newer graphic cards. I use Sea Sonic 430W for my ATI HD 3800 and am quite satisfied with it. It's stable, and the noise level is relatively low. ETA: Oh, I forgot my own experience with early crashing. Make sure if CPU cooler is securely attached to the CPU. Overheat of CPU/video card can make the game crash. Before I upgraded my computer, I got constant hanging with a sandglass after 30 or 40 minutes of playing time. After the upgrade I no longer had hanging, instead the game crashed straight to the desktop without any error message. Turned out that the CPU cooler was not properly attached to the CPU, causing overheat. After I reapplied heat sink and attached the cooler properly, the crash was gone instantly. Lucky I caught the culprit right away, otherwise my CPU would have been fried to death. (Never again will I let anyone else assemble my own desktop.)

um there were to different files in the "no_cd" cracks rar. One of them was "Sims2EP7.exe" and the other said "vitality.nfo(MSInfo Configuration File) do I put that in there too(TSBin)??
.nfo files in cracks or NoCDs are just plain readme text files. You don't have to put it into TSBin folder. Always read .nfo first when you're downloading NoCDs. Open it in notepad to read it. You can tell the exact version of executable that the NoCD is intended for by reading .nfo file. also I never could find securom anywhere on my computer. even though I installed the patch, and they say you can't get rid of it by unistalling. Still I followed the securom diretions, and found nothing on my computer, lol.
Don't double post. Use Modify button if you have something else to say.

No wonder you got "No Pic" icon, the TGIs were all screwed. When you're making a clone, you have to replace the entire ModelName in the Scenegraph rename wizard, and click update once. How do you find the CC's model name? I couldn't in its SimPE, so I cloned it and find its model name at the Scenegraph rename wizard. That one with a long string of numbers was what I found. Select Fix Integrity on your CC. You can get ModelName of CC from Scenegraph rename Wizard window. Close the box without fixing integrity.

OK, attached the new working clone. This time I didn't extract/add SHPE and CRES. CRES does not really need to be updated unless new blocks are added by new EPs, like tubs (dog bath) or bars (eating surface). I manually edited Parts tabs in both SHPEs to match the original. Removed useless subsets from Parts tabs of SHPEs. Unused duplicate shadow texture was removed. (I hate redundant texture files.)
I'm not sure if this table was indeed the culprit, as I had no problem whatsoever with the original version in my game. I can get bottles for toddlers (Maxis fridges), change diapers (Maxis and custom changing tables), etc. I looked into the changing table. All resources are in 0xFFFFFFFF group, so they cannot affect anything but the object itself.
Are you sure that toddlers were awake when you tested the original version? Some toddler-related functions like Get Bottles/Changing Diapers disappear when toddlers are sleeping. Or there might be another hack causing the conflict.

Heh anyone notice they closed the thread I started? Guess there were too many people in it saying EA would not get one more dime from them. Bastards.
Well, you did mention that you'll be pirating on the official forum, surely you knew this thread will either be locked or deleted eventually. I'm amazed by sheer idiocy of some sheeples. They are practically fraternizing with enemy, blindly parroting corporate propagandas which were designed to manipulate people into accepting that infringement on privacy by corporate entities is justified. They deserve to be ass-raped by EAxis, Sony, or any other greedy corporates that force DRM crap on their customers. I really hope someday Suckurom bites them in the ass and their computers finally blow up in their oh-so-righteous faces.

Well, I just installed the patch but it errored on the 'overrides.package' I replaced that and it installed fine. I bet my game is crapped out now though, I am glad I backed up everything Just going to run my game now and see if it is working. [eta] Everything seems fine. I haven't taken out any of my hack fixes though Same error here. How did you replace the overrides.package? Open compressed.zip in your FT disk. Go to TSData\Res\Overrides and extract fresh Overrides.package to the same location under your FreeTime game folder. Overrides.package is used to update Stuff Pack objects, like Teen objects that were updated to FreeTime. Probably the new patch added K&B objects in there.

My only ARRRing experience is at the booty list. Give me a pointer to the SPs. And since I'm sure SecuRom is running in my computer (I don't connet that computer with the Internet. At least it won't phone home), will ARRRing introduce trouble? *Sign* I'm such a newbie. You need to get a torrent client software like µtorrent. Go to torrent sites like The Pirate Bay or mininova, search what you want and click the torrent file to open it in your client. In case there are several similar torrents, usually the one with the most seeders and leechers are the best. I believe there are several threads about ARRRing 101 in Retardo Land. Search for torrent.

I've done the same thing when I didn't know how to update changing tables to Seasons.
When you first made a clone, did you give it the exact same modelname as your custom changing table?
I guess you meant "extract" in step 1? Because there is no need to "export" mesh or png file.
You have to extract GMND, SHPE, CRES (for mesh) and TXMT, MMAT (for texture) too. Not just GMDC and TXTR. The creator may have changed mesh name or added a new subset. Game usually crashes when there is something wrong in GMND or CRES.
Extract those resources, delete existing resources from your clone, add extracted resources. If you gave the exact same modelname to your clone, you don't even have to Fix Integrity.
Edit: Instead of Extracting/Adding SHPE and CRES, edit the parts tab in SHPE manually to match the original. CRES is only required when new blocks were added, like tubs or bars.

Wonder if the next EP Apartments will re-break some of these fixes or do more harm to the game it self. Considering their inability to learn from past mistakes or actually use anything resembling logic, it's a definite. I thought that Lord Darcy postulated that the reason bugs and such keep recurring is because they are building the EPs & SPs all off the (unpatched) Pets engine. Well, duh. If you keep building off the same engine you knew had bugs without fixing it, you're going to keep getting the same bugs. Not quite, I said only SPs are built on Pets engine. EPs can't do that, otherwise they'll lose all new functions and objects from post-Pets EPs. Every EP includes the whole contents of last EP's object.package. (Stuffpack objects are not part of object.package since Celebration, that's why they remain outdated.) So Apartment Life will include the whole contents of FT object.package. The problem comes from the idiocy that EAxis is not carrying the change FT patch brought on FT object.package forward AL's object.package. As EAxis started to develop AL before they released FT patches, it means that they're building AL upon broken, unpatched FT engine. That's unavoidable, given the schedule, but any respectable game company will take the time to include the contents of FT patch in AL before they send AL to gold. They don't, because it means rewriting of changed codes and what not, heaven forbids the delayed release date. I think that's the reason why once-stomped bugs are constantly resurrected in the next EP.

this is complicated. so are you guys saying i should do it in this order:
> install freetime > wait for a new anti-securom no-cd exe to come out, replace old exe > then the freetime patch > then install kitchen and bath afterwards
I don't think it matters whichever you install first, FT or K&B. I expect that fixed K&B objects included in FT patch will override outdated ones included in K&B pack. That was the way FT overrode outdated Teen objects, anyway.

(Sims won't put plates on it when they're Serving a Meal, though.)
What about community restaurants? Will they be correctly seated and served in a table with such a centerpiece? Restaurants are not affected, whether there is a centerpiece or not on the table. (Actually, NL introduced centerpieces with restaurants in mind.) It only affects "Serve Meal" from fridges. Centerpieces are especially useful when you want to prevent Sims from walking half a mile toward backyard garden tables to serve a meal.

So they fixed Kitchen crap for FreeTime only? So Seasons and BV players can buy the new pack or can go fuck themselves then.
What does this mean for those of us who haven't acquired K&B yet, but are intending to do so at some stage? I presume that if I do patch first, then install K&B it will undo these changes - but I won't be able to repatch as the game will recognise that it is already patched. Teen stereo and Teen computer had similar issue with BV, missing BV features like slap dancing or booking vacations. EAxis included updated versions in FreeTime Overrides.package. Even if you install Teen crap after FT, FT version will override the outdated version included in Teen crap. (And just like K&B, BV players without FT were completely left out.) I expect it's something along this line with K&B objects too. Probably they included fixed versions in FT objects.package or Overrides.package.

Heh. Time to wait for new NoCD then. It seems to contain a lot of fixes that awesomeware fixed a long time ago - eg Romance asp graves and LTW. I guess we don't need the awesome versions any more?
Unless Pescado confirms and removes Awesome fixes to obsolete folder, I'm leaving them right in my hack folder. I don't trust EAxis's claim until I install the thing and see in my own eyes. o "Tinker" interaction is now available on the "Garbage Ninja by Kitchensations", "Big and Brown Dishwasher by Romantic Notions", "You Got Feets Bathtub", "SuperJet Corner Shower by Sleek Sensations", "The Coldinator by Kitchensations", and "Solid Sense Fridge by Romantic Notions". o "Stock" and "Get Leftovers" interactions are now available on "The Coldinator by Kitchensations" and "Solid Sense Fridge by Romantic Notions". o "Compose Contents" is now available to "Garbage Ninja by Kitchensations". Darcyland / Lord Darcy Investigates / Maxis Centerpiece... as Centerpiece! (Updated 2008/11/23) Updated to M&G
|
on: 2008 May 29, 10:06:53

As of NL, many Maxis small objects like vases or table lamps work as "centerpieces". If you put one of those centerpieces on a dining table, Sims can still use that table as an eating surface. (Sims won't put plates on it when they're Serving a Meal from fridge, though.) However, a lot of Maxis small objects are not valid centerpieces, despite their small size. For example, every single object from Happy Holiday Stuff doesn't work as a valid centerpiece. (See the screenshot above.) If you put one of those invalid centerpieces on a dining table, Sims will refuse to use that table to dine on. (Like the tables on the back patio at Crypt O'Night in NL downtown, where small candles prevent Sims from using those tables.) This issue was discussed in this thread. This mod makes nearly all Maxis small objects up to Mansion & Garden Stuff Pack to function as valid centerpieces. If there are missing small objects, please let me know. It does NOT work for custom objects. - Decorative: small decorative objects (sculptures and plants)
- Dish: plates, bowls, platters and cakes
- Electronics: some small electronics
- Lamp: table lamps
Required EP: NL or later. Even if you don't have any EP, it will work if you have at least one SP (except for Happy Holiday Stuff). Installation: Place in your My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads folder. (Or in a subfolder of Downloads folder.) Check back this thread whenever a new pack or patch is released. If a new EP/patch adds new BHAVs to the existing objects, this mod may require update to prevent possible resource conflict. Also, if objects from new EPs/SPs do not work as valid centerpieces, this mod needs to be updated to include those objects. Note: If you downloaded my previous "beta" version from this thread, please remove it. (LdDarcy_DecoSlotCenterpiece_Decorative.package) I removed BHAVs enabling placements on decorative slots that were included in beta, as I couldn't be 100% sure of reverse compatibility with all previous EPs. The "beta" was originally intended for my own personal use only. If you want this feature, here is a safer alternative that also works on custom objects. Valid centerpieces have "CT - Allow With Food" BHAV. If you want to make custom objects to work as valid centerpieces, extract one of BHAVs from this mod and add it to the custom object. Change the group of newly added BHAV to 0xFFFFFFFF. Make sure to adjust Instance number to prevent resource conflict. Changelog: v1.0: Initial release. v1.0a: Updated to FT patch #2. Resource conflict in FT craftable plates and Voodoo Doll was resolved. (2008/06/18) v1.0b: Updated to IKEA Home Stuff. Added 4 IKEA table lamps. (2008/06/30) v1.0c: Updated to Apartment Life. Added several AL objects and 3 table phones. (2008/09/07) v1.0d: Added an additional file for plates, bowls, FT platters and cakes. (2008/10/19) v1.0e: Added 1 M&G table plant and TV Dinner tray. (2008/11/23)
