3001  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hack request: No more "I'm home! Worship me!" for family sims on: 2005 August 21, 18:28:58
It's even funnier now I use the smartserve food hack and they bring a pizza home from work and wave that about everywhere.  I just cancel the action out, which curtails it a bit.
I have dizzy2's smartserve hack too, but no one has brought home pizza.  How does that happen?
3002  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: HUZZAH! Banned from Rentech.com! on: 2005 August 21, 09:38:32
I read on a British-American dictionary website that the British do not put a period after titles such as Mr. and Mrs. as Americans do.  I was reading a book that was British once, and I thought it was a misprint because there were no periods after those titles.  Perhaps there are other things as well.

I was an avid reader as a child, and so I learned a lot of words but not the pronunciation of them.  So I was at grade school, and we were going to the gym for some kind of awards ceremony, and we were told to each take our chairs with us.  My teacher told some of us to leave a space between the chairs, and noticing the pattern with the other chairs in front of us, I asked my teacher, "Oh, is this going to be the Aye-zul?"  She cracked up laughing and I couldn't understand why until she told me that aisle was pronounced "I-uhl".  I was so embarrassed!

Dunno why you're in a rush to buy it, unless you want to guineapig the hacks, or limp along without them in pain and suffering and hope your game doesn't explode from some unfixed oldbug.
This is what I was thinking.  I couldn't wait to get Uni because I saw all the fun everyone was having, people were posting pics and talking about stuff.  I will try to sit this one out though, and wait until the patches come out.  Who will be our guinea pig, hmmm?  Someone has to find all the bugs.  Cheesy  I've just now gotten my game pretty stable and I do not fancy the idea of taking out my hacks now.

I had this problem with Don's condo, and it went away as soon as I replaced the diagonal door with one on a right angle corner.  I also had the problem with guests getting stuck in the bathroom as well.  This was before I had the bathroom controller, and even shooing the guests had no effect.  Don had Bella living with him, and they had a couple of kids.  They would rather pee themselves than sit on the toilet in front of someone.  So they'd stand there shooing the guest and they'd just stand there with their arms folded until my sims peed on themselves.  It drove me crazy, so I installed a no privacy mod, but I didn't really like that either.  Finally I fixed the door and the problems went away, and I got the bathroom controller from JM about that time, so I haven't had any more problems with this.  I am convinced that the problem is the diagonal walls and doors.  In every house I've had the problem, I've gotten rid of all diagonal walls and doors and the problem has gone away.  In one Maxis house that had a lot of diagonal walls, the one in Pleasantview with three stories, I had a problem with JMP's sleep clocks.  The sims would just stand there when the clock called them to bed.  Once I replaced all the diagonal walls, I had no more problems.  Since Uni came out, they have caused no end of problems.  In those condos with the long diagonal wall in the front where the living room is, I usually end up remodeling those because to me it's wasted space.  I remember in Sims1 somewhere in the game Maxis said that Sims like diagonal walls.  Probably something to do with environment, but I rarely used them because you can't put anything in front of them.  So in my opinion, diagonal walls and doors are evil and must be eradicated.  Roll Eyes
3006  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bathroom Uses You - Yet Another Interesting Semaphoric Scenario on: 2005 August 18, 07:43:10
No, the usual showers that are used in dorm bathrooms don't require any privacy, so unless you were using another shower, they shouldn't have needed privacy to shower.  Are your controllers set for All and not male or female?
3007  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: New SimPE w/gender pref on: 2005 August 18, 04:21:35
I don't mean to "slag" Quaxi or anyone.  I know he is doing this without getting paid, and SimPE has helped a lot of people.  I was frustrated because of a lack of response to my problem, and I guess I've gotten used to guys like JM and TwoJeffs who are on the ball and respond rather quickly.  But when I realized it had been nearly a week and there had been no response, and I heard others saying they had not heard anything from him either, I became more frustrated and vented a little here.  I also heard some comments as though Quaxi did not care so much about those of us that use the program for other things besides modding, and I became worried.  Of course, that is probably not true at all.  Quaxi has done a great service for all of us in the Sims community that want to get under the hood and tinker with stuff that we wouldn't be able to otherwise.  It is just my hope that it will continue to keep up with the changes and be a relatively user-friendly program.  Of course, I am more technically minded than some, so the degree of user-friendliness is relative.  Having good tutorials helps too.

Ok I am done rambling here.  I just don't want anyone to think I am "dissing" Quaxi.  Smiley
3008  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Problem with "No 20K Handout" on: 2005 August 18, 03:47:30
Well then Rainbow, for this infraction of fractions, you must now perform a total and manual uninstall. Please follow the enclosed instructions for the reinstallation to the letter. Where it reads "without any hacks or mods", by gali you better do it, Missy.
A fraction infarction or myocardial infraction?  Tongue Well, I did as you said, I even reformatted and reinstalled Windows, and the same thing happened again, so what should I do now?  And what about the infraction of my little toe??
3009  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Problem with "No 20K Handout" on: 2005 August 17, 18:25:43
The numbers I gave above was from the neighborhood screen, not the amount displayed from within the game.  Wouldn't that include the lot value as well as cash?  Actually, the moved out family was still in the bin, not having moved into a lot yet.  I merged them back with the original family, then had only the son-in-law move out.  Then I had him move into a house and invite his wife over to move in with their daughter.  He only took about half the money that time, with her bringing something like 36,000 with her when she moved in.  I didn't write those numbers down.
3010  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: New SimPE w/gender pref on: 2005 August 17, 18:19:34
[Yes, they simply ignore us and pretend there's no problem. Nice to see you here as well, rainbow.
Hey, nice to see you here too.  I saw you posted again.  I posted too.  We'll wait and see what happens (as if we had a choice Sad ).
3011  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Problem with "No 20K Handout" on: 2005 August 17, 01:25:18
I saw that just now, but I remember reading this a little while back, someone was saying that it didn't leave much money with their elders, who were the ones staying, and their adult children moved out taking all their hard-earned money.
3012  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Problem with "No 20K Handout" on: 2005 August 17, 01:09:46
LOL, but I wanted the money to stay with the family, and for the daughter moving out with her husband and little girl to start over with what they are making with their jobs.  I thought someone posted a similar problem while using this mod, but I can't find it here.  Perhaps it was back at the "other place."
3013  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Random baby/toddler questions on: 2005 August 17, 00:56:50
In this case I was playing with free will off, using the baby controller and Power Idle to manage the sims.  She had no time for fun except for an occasional flamingo kicking.  Poor thing, she often wondered why she wanted so many babies!  She kept telling herself it would be okay if she could just get through this toddler stage...
3014  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Problem with "No 20K Handout" on: 2005 August 17, 00:24:21
I have had this hack installed for awhile, but I just had something strange happen.  Cassandra, Mortimer, and Alexander all moved to a new house a long time ago.  Mortimer died, and Alexander moved out, leaving all the money with Cass and her new family.  I've moved the kids out and had them get married and then sent some to college.  For the most part, the family's cash has been around $500-600.  All the children are grown now except one, and Mortimer's youngest son with Bella who is living with Cassandra and her husband now.  One of Cassandra's daughters moved back to the house after graduating and got married, with her new husband moving into the Goth mansion.  They had a baby, who is now a toddler.  I decided they needed a house of their own even though the Goth house was more than big enough for all of them.  So the three sims moved out, two adults and one toddler, leaving two adults, a teen, and a baby.  When I went to move the new family into a house, I looked to see how much they could afford.  To my astonishment, they had $698,286!  I wondered how much Cassandra and the others had been left with, and they only have $95,771!  How did this happen?  I thought the moving out sims were supposed to get a small percentage of the household net worth, but this seems backwards.  I could fix it with a money order, probably several money orders, but how did this happen in the first place?  This doesn't jive with what JMP describes in the rtfm:

Quote
Eliminates the magic 20K handout when a sim moves out or graduates from college. A sim moving out will simply take a proportional split of the cash reserves of the current family. No more. No such thing as a free lunch. If a sim family breaks up, the sim being booted out will take the minimum amount to afford a lot, 3K, from the treasury if available.  Otherwise, he gets whatever is left. If that's not enough to afford even the odd 2x2 lot....too bad! Life's a bitch and then you're raped by wild boars!

I recently had this problem, and updating InTeenimater resolved the problem.
And what have I told you? These hacks are EEEEEVIL and far less awesome. When something goes wrong with hacks, it's nearly *ALWAYS* one of these.
Give me a more awesome alternative, and I will use it instead. Smiley

Ah, ok, I might try that sometime then.  Thanks!
3018  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Random baby/toddler questions on: 2005 August 16, 06:45:40
I tried moveobjects but the toddler still thought she was in the crib.  Her animations were of being in the crib and she was suspended in the air.  It was weird, so I put her back in the crib where her mother came and released her.  How do you get it to work?  I've used Inge's reservable cribs which you can set to allow the kid to let themselves out, but this doesn't work with the baby controller.

Old versions back to 0.28 are available at sf.net -> http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=133134

If you get the newest one off sourceforge, you'll notice that the archive contains both "SimPe" and "SimPe Classic". I use Classic all the time, myself. Same old UI, but with newer functionality.
In lieu of a "thanks" button, Thanks for this useful post, Dizzy2. Smiley
3020  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Random baby/toddler questions on: 2005 August 16, 06:03:42
I tried this once to see if the child would actually get served real food like the rest of the family, but after seeing that he only got toddler mush, I decided it was more trouble than it is worth.  I don't even buy my toddlers high chairs.  JMP's baby controller completely ignores them anyway.  My toddlers are perfectly happy getting fed bottles, and I love Inge's bottomless bottle.  After the toddlers are potty trained, they can pretty much take care of themselves until they get tired.

I found out that if a toddler gets too low on several motives, like being tired and hungry and low on social at the same time, it's very difficult for the adult to interact with them at all.  If they try to give them a bottle, they won't take it because they are too busy whining or dozing off on the floor.  The parent can't pick them up and put them in the bed for the same reason.  They won't stop fussing long enough for them to be able to pick them up.  This is what happens when you have too many toddlers at once. Wink  The social bunny does not come for toddlers.  They just get incredibly cranky.

I'm thinking it was a Hug -> Leap into Arms action on Mitch's part.  Very creative!
3023  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: FFS "Batbox" Lot Debugger v2.0: NUCLEAR WAR EDITION on: 2005 August 16, 03:24:48
[Go figure that.  I'm sure it goes along with what JM said, when you have twins, they will look less alike than singles because the Sim generator is rolled twice.

True, and I think we decided that you couldn't rely on the genetics when playing the Maxis Sims.  I knew that Don was sneaky, when I played Cassandra he did not get the chance to leave her.

So, are you saying that we should consider using the randomizer for more sensible genetic outcomes?  At what point did you use it in the new baby situation?
That's what JM recommended and I think that's exactly what it was intended for.  That and personality.  I always save right before the baby is born, and then use it.  That's when the new character is created.  You only have to use it once per game session because when you close the game down, it is reset when you next start the game.  So I would use it before every birth.  I used it for Cassandra's 11th child (I was going to stop at 10, but Risky Woohoo kicked in, so I decided to see what I would get this time using the randomizer).  I believe you would get the same results if you didn't save after a birth and reloaded the lot several times since everytime a new character is created, but that takes forever.

After I found out about Maxis-created sims having messed up DNA, I fixed them.  I can't stand having stuff being messed up like that!

By the way, you need to delete some PMs. Smiley
3024  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: FFS "Batbox" Lot Debugger v2.0: NUCLEAR WAR EDITION on: 2005 August 16, 01:41:45
Did the mother or father have any custom genetics?
Nope, the mother is Cassandra Goth and a CAS sim I made for her to marry after that horrible Don Lothario left her at the altar.  As you know, she has black hair with brown eyes and S3 skin.  My sim I made has red hair, light blue eyes, and S2 skin.  I made a mistake above.  He has S2 skin, not S1.

I have also observed the same with other sims.  I made a CAS sim for Brandi who was the brother of the sim I made for Cassandra, only he had dark blue eyes and black hair.  They had 5 girls and 2 boys.  All the girls looked alike.  One even could pass for Brandi with the same hairstyle and clothes, except her lips were fuller like her father's.  The boys looked slightly different, and one was almost a clone of his father.  All of them had black hair, dark blue eyes, and S1 skin, except for one, but she was a twin.  Go figure that.  I'm sure it goes along with what JM said, when you have twins, they will look less alike than singles because the Sim generator is rolled twice.

Eh, the SimPE portraits have been wiggy for me for ages. Don't really mind it, as they just tend to get stuck on a previous age group. Sort of nostalgic, more than anything.
That happens when you haven't updated a sim's appearance in the mirror since their age transition.  Since I use Pescado's clothing tool, all mine tend to be updated now because change appearance is invoked after planning outfits.

I don't mind the new UI, but it is a little trickier to work out than the old one, mainly because it's got a bunch more buttons that let you interact directly with the UI, moving windows around and such. Say, I may have to write that down, and see if I can work it out. Increasing the interactivity of the UI itself increases the complexity of using the program. Hmm.
You know, that reminds me of Windows...
