26  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Major imbalance of boys vs girls being born on: 2006 January 15, 18:08:01
Not possible currently without hacking the make new character primitive in the .exe, which sucks. Maxoid Tom has said that he was going to try to get the primitive changed to accept the gender parameter for babies in one of the EPs, but who knows when or if it will happen. I try with every new EP and still no joy.

Yes, a change to the primitive 'Make New Character' so that it uses a gender parameter is the best solution, but I'm trying to think outside of the box here.

Does this assume that all twins births are fraternal twins of different genders?  I have only ever had one set of brother and sister twins.  I've not had many twins (I don't use a hack) but of the six I have had (and can remember) all except that one were boy-boy or girl-girl.  Three of these pairs were identical.  I know they aren't identical in game terms but I have to dress them differently to tell them apart.

Ahah - Bad assumption on my part.  All of my twins (maybe six now) have been boy-girl.  Rules out one more idea for baby gender choosing.

Remember you can always just save right before birth and reload until you get the wanted gender.

Yep - But as a hacker, I'm looking for an in-game BHAV modification based change.  Wouldn't it be nice to have a hack that lets you choose the gender of your new baby as it is born?
29  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Major imbalance of boys vs girls being born on: 2006 January 15, 16:11:03
I've thought about the baby gender problem for a while, and I've come up with two different ideas, both of which are unappealing.

1. Brandi Broke Effect : If there is only one parent linked to a pregnancy, the baby will be the opposite gender.  This kinda sucks because then the resulting baby genetics are one sided.

2. Twins Effect: Make every birth a twins birth and discard the unwanted gender.  Rather draconian and leads to BFBVFS.

Nope - You should be good to go.
31  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Does cologne affect anything besides turn-ons/off? on: 2005 December 31, 14:45:50
Hmm...facial hair with fit or fat people...yeah, most of them aren't applicable all the time. Why couldn't they have things like skintone and eyecolor?

I'm sure that Maxis didn't include skintone because then you could make sims racist - something they want to avoid.  Racists don't need any help.

Eyecolor would've been nifty, though.
32  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Daily Gardner on: 2005 December 21, 16:10:00
Strange thing I've noticed, though, is the hood I'm playing now never had a daily gardener before, but the normal gardener keeps arriving and saying your plants are in perfect condition, then leaves before a sim has the chance to fire him/her.  But the plants are nearly dead and the shrubs are definitely in need of a trim.

Yep - I had that happen when I first installed the Daily Gardner.  You've got to fire the regular gardner and re-hire a new daily one.  But yes, you've got to be quick to catch the original before she drives off.
33  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What is your aspiration? on: 2005 December 21, 16:08:01
One of my choices would be family as well, but I'd make a very sucky family sim considering I am infertile

Well, we're working on the human cloning thing.  Just give it time.

I've looked all over in SimPE and can't find where Dance skill is listed for a sim.  Am I blind, or just looking in the wrong places?  Maybe I've got the wrong plugin viewer or the order wrong in the plugin heirarchy.

I think you can use Inge's teleporter to make dormies, as they should just be on-campus young adult townies.  Crank out a batch of eight in Create-A-Student, plop them on a temporary campus lot that has Inge's shrub, and make them townies.

An older version of the Daily Gardner hack messed up the MatchMaker's phone dialogue.  I think there's a fresh and shiny NightLife version available, though.

Grand anything isn't recognized.

Which is why you can do this kind of inbred family:

Objective: Finish a complete sim lifecycle from birth to death of the first generation

Automatically lose if no sims are in play at the end of the challenge

I need a clarification here - If your founder was a single mother and is long since dead and buried and finally the legacy heir dies of old age without ever marrying or having kids, did you complete the challenge successfully or lose automatically?

Do Ethiopians have propane for the flame jet thingy?  And if so, are they allowed to toast marshmellows with it?
40  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How Do You Change the Description & Price of Objects in SimPE? on: 2005 December 14, 03:29:24
For the descriptions:
1. Open the object's package file in SimPE.
2. Find the Catalog Description resource in the resource tree (upper left) and select it.
3. The first line in the Text String Editor (below) will have the object's name (which you can change).
4. The second line will have the object's catalog description (which you can change).
5. After making your changes, hit the Commit File button (on the far right).
6. Then save the package (From the menu: File/Save).
41  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: best way to make them know they're family? on: 2005 December 13, 01:46:10
On a somewhat related note, I once came up with the following plan for a nuclear inbred family:

Six starting sims (A through F) pair up and marry.  Each marriage (indicated by flat diamonds in the picture) spawns two kids: a boy and a girl.  Then you breed/braid these three family lines together into an inbred knot of family togetherness.  You can keep going as long as you want - the pattern repeats.  The game allows this kind of thing because it doesn't look farther back than grandparents for family relationships.

Okay - Here's another guess: Vampiric Toddlers!  I'm going to go try that now and see if it works.

Followup: No, it didn't work.  You can't bite toddlers.  Disappointing, really.
43  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Ethiopian Challenge! Because E-Mail Was Too Easy! on: 2005 December 12, 23:10:07
ok I cant figure out how you feed the baby the required once per day

I'll take a guess that you're supposed to just let the babies starve, but somehow prevent the SS from showing up.  Seems rather cruel even for J.M., if that is the case.  And I've seen those social workers walk right through a brick wall without blinking before, so it has to be something more hackish but still on the approved list.

Interesting.  Any hints on how to keep a newborn alive until they can go to school and eat?  Better yet - Any hints on how to keep a pregnant mother (or alien father) alive for three days without food?  Can toddlers eat from the trashcan?

Wait until wintertime (when the air is very dry), put on some rubber-soled shoes, shuffle your feet on a woolen rug, and then touch a doorknob or a light switch.  You should get a nice zap from the static electricity.  Rubber gloves and a cat work well too.

So spaghetti is just a culinary conspiracy?  (Quote paraphrased from Rozencrants and Guildenstern are Dead)

How undignified for a grown peson to be juggling.

Hey now, I'm a grown person (38) and I juggle.  I even live in your lovely state of Ohio.  You never know - your best friends may be jugglers.  Smiley
