Title: Ford Mustang GT

There is a new car being offered at TheSims2 http://thesims2.ea.com/getcoolstuff/ford/index.php looks like a great commercial for Ford

It does look pretty schnazzy. I haven't seen it in game yet, but I'll be giving it a test drive tonight. Apparently there's only the red color, though. No other schemes. Ah well.

Sadly not the classic 60s Mustang ... and what sort of barbarian would want a colour other than red? A bright colour's high visibility gives the plebs a chance to get out of the way and for those who are still too slow ... it doesn't show the blood.

I know people will object to the product placement concept......but I bought a Ford Focus last year, my very first brand new car ever, so I'm happy to have this  ;D

Anyone complaining about product placement will be drowned out by the cheering Mustang fanatics.

My brother is one, and I know he'll be thrilled to see this download.

I think this is product placement done right.  It's an add on, I'm not forced to have it in my game.  Also, it's for something that seems "special."  A McDonald's burger doesn't seem special.

Now I'm off to download, so one of my sims can join the Mustang fanatic hoard.

And recolours are sure to follow.

One question. What is in the Maxis driveway / garage door set that is taking up 12M that's worth bloating my DLs for?

Did you download just the car,or the car kit? If you have NL, all you needed was the car. The kit, with the driveway and garage door, is for those who don't have NL but have OFB, Pets, or Seasons, so that they can actually use the car. The code has been there, it was just useless to them until now.

Boatloads of free continual advertising.  They're just showing off the fact that they have *the* cool, retro rod and Dodge totally failed with theirs and GM...well...GM would like some attention too, I'm sure.  Maybe someone could make a 'picture' of a 'Camaro concept car' so we could download it and put it on our sims walls.  Ha!

Thanks for posting this, by the way.  I almost never go to the EA site.

Absolutely, spot on. I suggested right at the beginning of TS2 that it would be great, if some companies could be persuaded to see the wisdom of making custom content as advertisng. All design work is CAD anyway so there's nothing to separate a Sony Bravia HDTV and a TS2 mesh.

But they should never be 'sold' as part of the game or an EP - that looks like product placement and arouses questions as to who is paying whom, and for what. Advertisements are the bedrock of capitalism and long may they thrive, but charging the punter for consuming an ad -- or creating doubts via product placement -- is so wrong on so many levels, I can't even begin to count them.

Stop giving me ideas. :D I don't really like having zombies in my game because they're immortal. So I guess sim flower will just have to stay dead. :( At least she had a good life. She was permaplat when she died. And her husband was permaplat when he died, too, he got his 20 woohoos. :P

Even unmarked white vans? My stepdad drove an unmarked white van for a long time because he'd haul construction equipment (he sold countertops and such for a living, before that he worked at home depot, so when you add in his own construction projects, he'd usually have lumber or granite in the back, I guess it was cheaper when he bought it than a pickup) and he had issues almost every time a robbery was committed.

I'd always thought that red cars were pulled over more often until I read this article at Snopes- http://www.snopes.com/autos/law/redcars.asp Now I'm not so sure.

I had a red car for over two years... some sort of record for me as I generally sell them when the ash-tray is full ;), but I never once was pulled over.  My current baby however..  it was made to be driven fast..  I have to keep it happy now, don't I.

The ideal vehicle to sneak around in is a hearse. Even if they find the body, who's gonna stop a hearse merely because there's a corpse in the back?

Since installing the new car I have this problem with the car headlights...any idea why? :D

Needless to say I have deleted the stupid thing. I have plenty of better custom cars that do not cause this problem :P

Title: Re: Ford Mustang GT

I did a bit of night travelling too, but the headlights are normal, so I wouldn't think the Mustang is the problem, but maybe someone more awesome could say for sure...

If you look at it closely you'll see EP5 (5 i believe) text on the texture.

I've seen several reports of that headlight problem on the BBS. At least one claimed that all headlights of all cars were doing that until he pulled the Mustang back out of his downloads.

::Shrug:: The usual sheeple credibility rules apply.

Title: Re: Ford Mustang GT
Post by: Emma on 2007 April 14, 18:46:44
Well I took it out and my headlights are back to normal.  I'll put it back in when I've got all the expansions installed on my new pc which will be shipped in 9 days. Not like I'm counting or anything..... ;D

Mine said 'Automatic' on the headlight texture. I have no idea why!

Title: Re: Ford Mustang GT
Post by: RainbowTigress on 2007 April 15, 01:29:14
Now that I look closely at Emma's picture, I can see that there are words on it like ScoobyDoo mentioned, like when a texture is missing.  Weird.  I have all the EPs installed so I'm not using the car kit.  I take it you don't have all EPs loaded right now, Emma?  What EPs do you have right now, and are you using the car kit?

Title: Re: Ford Mustang GT
Post by: ScoobyDoo on 2007 April 15, 05:57:29
Actually it said "TEP4" and some other words.  I accidently put the mustang back in while trying to fix my Insim clothing problem.  Yup all the cars got that missing/messed up  texture.

I have two computers with Sims 2 installed; one has all the expansions up to Pets, and the other doesn't have Pets or Nightlife.  I got the texture error on the lesser computer.  (I also noticed that the car usage package allows driving, car woohoo, etc., but not selling cars on those huge circular displays that came with OFB.)  I'll be trying out Numenor's fix.

Strange. My insurance company has never asked the color of my car.

I guess they might know what color it was manufactured as from the VIN, but if they have that kind of resources, why did they ask for make, model, and year?

Has anyone tried multiple occupants because the car blurb says it carries only one passenger at a time? This would make sense since people who had the downloaded the driveway would not necessarily hve downloaded the multiple occupants in each car.

Title: Re: Ford Mustang GT
Post by: cwykes on 2007 May 20, 10:02:49
yes only one passenger at a time - so no car woohoo.  I hadn't read the blurb or I'd have known that :-[  I tried in game.  With two controllable sims, the action just drops out of the queue, but an uncontrollable sim got stuck on the drive when asked to join her boyfriend.  Had to force error twice to unstick her.  That's irritating - "ask to join" shouldn't come up in the first place if the action isn't possible.

The other thing that doesn't work without NL is the car turntable "show 'n ride" or whatever the name is.  I got the turntables with OFB even though I didn't have NL, but I can't place the mustang on tit.  >:(  I can make a car lot anyway using wholesale mode and moveobjects to place the cars on the ground.  Numenor said he'd look at it.
