Title: FFS Director's Cut: More Awesome Than You
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2005 July 15, 03:31:47
The compilation of the collection of everything I use, guaranteed not to make your game explode in a big fiery ball visible from space unless you have somebody else's hacks conflicting, because MY game hasn't exploded in a big fiery ball visible from space.

Hmm, I've noticed the Director's Cut is not a strict subset of the "All Hacks".

There are stuff in the director's cut that are not in the "all hacks", and vice versa too, unless the zip file name in the All Hacks directory differ from the .package name in the director's cut.  I haven't got time to check indepth.

All Hacks comprises everything that has been released as a standalone hack. The Director's Cut comprises everything that I, the Director, personally use in my game. This includes a few obscure, unreleased extras, as befits any Director's Cut.

Are these hacks compatible with InTeenimater and InSIMenator?  I had both installed and everything was fine, but then when I installed these hacks and tried to play the game would crash after I went into a house.  It didn't matter if I disabled the custom content, still crashed.  But when I removed all my hacks from the downloads folder the game worked fine.  It could have been something else I had installed besides InTeen or InSIM; I also had a couple of hacks from Marhis, but I was pretty sure they wouldn't conflict.  I could be wrong.

There are InTeenified versions of Pescado's hacks, I presume they're now at www.Simbology.com.  InTeen conflicts with just about everything, since it does quite a lot of things.  It hasn't been updated for AL.  If you're using AL or M&G, don't use InTeen.

InSim was updated for AL, but it wasn't beta tested in the way that earlier versions of InSim were, and the absence of Eric after he released the AL version suggests that it was unsupported from the moment he uploaded it (i.e. so no bug fixes for the AL version).  I don't expect a version of InSim will be released for M&G.  You'd be better off getting TwoJeffs' SimBlender, available at Simbology.  It has most of the InSim functions and is supported.

^Well, thats not quit right.
Cause InTeen was updated to AL/M&G by MadCat256  and is now betatesting.

Title: Re: FFS Director's Cut: More Awesome Than You
Post by: Kyna on 2008 December 19, 16:25:11
Thanks for the correction, Pandaah.  I wasn't aware it was being updated as I haven't visited Simbology recently, and I usually ignore the kitten killer section when I do go there.

I expect that it will still conflict with just about every other hack in existence, and Pescado mods that were Inteenimated may need updating.  Has Jordi said whether he will be updating his Inteenimated versions of Pescado mods?  I note that his Inteenimated versions of Pescado mods were all uploaded to Simbology before AL's release and haven't been updated since, so there may be some that aren't compatible with AL.

Has Jordi said whether he will be updating his Inteenimated versions of Pescado mods?
Jordi has retired from TS2 modding. (http://linna.modthesims2.com/journal.php?do=showentry&e=2433) I don't know if someone else has taken over updating them or not.

At the moment- nobody. But if I remember correctly MadCat said something in this regard...
Oh and there is a discussion over there to make the InTeen after the betatest to conflict lesser with other mods.

(Fake) Edit: They released a hidden flavour pack (made by Jase!) thats prevents the kitten to die with the "kitten killler". So this name would be obsolet.

Thanks for the info!  I'm only running Uni and NL, never bought any more expansions.  I'll probably try getting rid of InTeen and just using these hacks instead.  I'm not sure if I read correctly... Does InSIM by itself conflict with these hacks?  Sorry if my questions are dumb, but I'm not Sim-tech savvy!  :-[

The older Insim versions probably not.

Yay!  I'll do some more "diagnostic testing" tonight and see which other hacks I have work with these.  Thank you!

I don't know if there ARE conflicts between InSim and FFS hacks, but since I now have an Awesome Sims2 game, I rarely need InSim and only put it into my CC when I know I'll need a feature that can't be done using an Awesome hack or cheat code.  Thus, I've never searched for the answer.

Read more.  For a week at least.  Read entire threads, warts and all.  I read for a week or two, asked a question(Have I asked a second one?), and then continued to read.  I've found 99% of my questions have already been asked, answered, and fixed.

My recommendation is this, go all out and build an Awesome Sims2 game using clean templates and nothing but Awesome hacks.  The instructions are all on site.

After you've successfully installed and played your fixed, bug-free, fully patched Awesome Sims2 game, and it's not acting quirky, put InSim back and see what happens.

I'm sorry, I'm at a loss right now.  I took out all my hacks.  Then I installed only the Director's Cut for NL.  It crashed.  So I tried that binary thing to see if I could figure out which hack was making it crash, but I couldn't narrow it down to one.  I had to have done something wrong, but I have no idea what since all these hacks are supposed to work together with no problems.

Title: Re: FFS Director's Cut: More Awesome Than You
Post by: sotadragon on 2008 December 20, 03:50:32
Went through it again and this time I figured out that interactwogreet.package seems to be part of the problem.  With all the other hacks plus that one, it crashes.  With all the other hacks except that one, it does not crash.  With only that hack, it does not crash.  So it's conflicting with... something.

Searched this site for "interactwogreet" and couldn't find where anyone else had this problem.  Same with Google.

So, it's not really a huge horrible thing, just annoying.

Argh, another mystery NL crash. I fucking hate NL, it's a buggy piece of shit.

Well, don't worry, soon we'lll have Sims 3!  More complicated buggy pieces of shit to deal with then.  Of course I'm absolutely still buying it when it comes out; I don't think I could stop myself...  :P

Over in the Podium, M&G involving engine upgrades was mentioned. Does that call for upgrades to any of the hacks?

M&G is AL-engine.

I'm having the same problem. I had to remove interactwogreet.package after narrowing my crashes down to that one. I am running all EPs and SPs except the holiday pack, and have had nary a problem with any of your other awesomeness. I have all the updated shininess from the AL directory (including the DC goodies).

Ok. Noob here.

If I have all EP's. Should I download simply the AL version to cover all EP's or should I download all of the Director's Cuts?

You only need to download one version, and it's the version for whatever the most recent expansion pack you have is. So in this case, just the AL version.

I'm confused (more than usual).  Someone on here told me that if I have FT that I should download that version. I have Apartment Life also, all ep's.  So which one should I load? In light of the above question I am quite unsure.

Thank you in advance

Title: Re: FFS Director's Cut: More Awesome Than You
Post by: Dragon Slave on 2010 April 07, 04:14:36
Like Jack Rudd said, the version needed is the one for the most recent expansion pack you have.  AL is the most recent (Actually, M&G, if there's a version for that), not FT.

I found a strange bug with antipeeobsession-file. My sims were unable to read magazines bought from magazine racks as well as FT-hobby magazines. I removed all other files from my downloads except hacks and started to exclude them one by one. When I removed this file, the problem disappeared. I ran the game with only this in my downloads and same bug came back. Just to let you know...

Title: Re: FFS Director's Cut: More Awesome Than You
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2010 April 09, 00:48:12
How baffling. I haven't noticed this and can't see why it would be related. What do you mean by "unable to read"? What happens when you try? Does an error occur?

Title: Re: FFS Director's Cut: More Awesome Than You
Post by: Maranatah on 2010 April 09, 10:35:03
I mean that sim takes a magazine, sits down, opens it and immediately after two seconds closes it and puts it to a counter/table/floor. I didn't see either that how this hack could be related to that  :o Strange mystery... I play all the time with testingcheats on, it doesn't give an actual error, the interaction just cancels by itself. Anyway, after I removed the file everything works just like it should. Too bad though  :-\

Title: Re: FFS Director's Cut: More Awesome Than You
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2010 April 10, 13:23:37
Are you sure they're not stopping because their interest level in that magazine is maxed out?

Title: Re: FFS Director's Cut: More Awesome Than You
Post by: Maranatah on 2010 April 10, 17:47:47
Yes, the interest level was low at the time. It happened with hobby magazines too. But since it's not doing that with anyone else, I guess it's just an exclusive bug in my game. Anyway, thanks for your time JM! Off to lurk some moar 8)

Is there a Director's Cut for base-game-only?

Title: Re: FFS Director's Cut: More Awesome Than You
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2011 February 21, 01:01:40
Not really. Base game is so horribly crippled that there's no sane reason anyone would do that. Upgrade your engine. However, most Uni items work for base game.

Title: Re: FFS Director's Cut: More Awesome Than You
Post by: Callista on 2011 February 21, 01:43:32
Oddly enough, that's exactly why I'm playing it. Things are just so easy with all the EPs.

I'll have to do trial-and-error with the Uni stuff, I guess.

Title: Re: FFS Director's Cut: More Awesome Than You
Post by: rufio on 2011 February 21, 06:16:31
You could just install NL (which I kind of remember Pes saying will upgrade your engine to be Awesomeware-compatible) and nothing else, and simply not use any features from NL you think make it too easy.  NL doesn't even get you any real bonuses if you ignore the vampires and dates, does it?  There are plenty of things I specifically avoid using in the game because they make it too easy - it is not that hard.

Title: Re: FFS Director's Cut: More Awesome Than You
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2011 February 21, 14:04:53
If you want the "simplified" game, it is best to achieve this by installing one of the later non-MGS stuffpacks. (If you install MGS, you need to install AL). Then you will get the benefits of an upgraded engine, but with no new "features". I would recommend not-merely-NL, because the NL engine is horribly buggy.

If it runs its own executable, then it should match the previous expansion. If it runs the executable of another expansion, then it matches that one.

Well considering RTFM means Read The Fucking Manual, perhaps you should READ THE FUCKING MANUAL.  Just a thought.

ETA: Since Pes is all about bursting my balloon of grump, each individual hack .zip does have its own manual.

Title: Re: FFS Director's Cut: More Awesome Than You

The Director's Cut doesn't actually come with a manual, it's just a big giant wad of all the stuff in the main directory and each of those individual manuals. But as a rule, Awesomeware Is Good.

Seeing as those .zips have NO FUCKING MANUAL in them, it's kinda hard to. So I searched for descriptions for what all the mods do. Amazing what logic does, right? I found out everything I needed to know before you came along with your oh so helpful advice.

Yes, but reading the manuals of each individual file sort of defeats the point of using the Director's Cut. The point of the Director's Cut is that you plop it in and go THIS IS AWESOME!

Mostly, your game will play as it did before, only with less bugs, less idiotic obnoxiousness, and more awesome.

Doesn't change the fact that before Pes replied and you changed it that you told me to do something which made no sense because there are no manuals in the .zips for the Directors Cut. Like I said, I got all the info I needed on my own, downloaded it on my own, and now my game is awesomefied. Eh. If it was a framework error, surely it wouldn't have recognized awsomemod in the first place causing the game to crash?
