The promised titles are now available on MATY. People who participated in the donation drive (and were not eaten by Paypal) can now claim their titles.

PM me with the name and email on your Paypal account you donated with to claim your title.

I think those who donated to the eaten account should get special titles. Perhaps

"Lame-Ass Peasant"
"Completely Useless and Largely Ignored" (I want this one)
"Tried and FAILED!"

or something else equally illlustrative.

What about people who couldn't even get on MATY for the donation instructions? :P

Actually, I still can't reliably log in to PMBD, not that I particularly want to considering what's happened there.

All the spammers have gone.  I think Piratebooty being a mod has something to do with it.

Eheh, often a rap on the knuckles is the most effective move; it improves efficiency of the whole system. Even when I am the victim - eh, the important point should be detecting when it's time to stop.

Actually, the PMBD forums are intentionally kept on a different, unrelated server specifically to reduce the odds of both being knocked out by the same problem.

Well, I couldn't get into either MATY or PMBD for the same period of time. Being able to log into PMBD is hit or miss still, though.

I disagree, BlueSoup has not failed: on the contrary had a very good idea, deleting and then locking the forum; at first I was a little appalled, but I have to admit that it was exceptionally effective, in restoring a sort of "order". Quick, easy and aimed to the point: efficiency.

I had borrowed that idea for my forum and it worked great; I feel actually stupid for not having thought that solution before.

Meh, the spammers didn't leave PMBD because of Piratebooty, as much as I love her. They left because we pelted them with rocks.

And Bluesoup was a great mod.

Actually, I locked the forum, after the Bobblehead flipped out and went postal.

My mistake, I didn't know. Good team work, anyway.

So, am I safe in assuming that the phorum is now clear of spamming 12-year-olds? I would like to go back, but I really can't abide trolling spammers (or is it spamming trolls ;))? At any rate, nothing brings out my inner bitch the way socially retarded teenagers do. *sigh* I must be getting old.

Any forum may be infested by morons and spammers, you can't hope they go away by themselves, or they don't sign up. The only way to deal with them is kick them out.
Like spraying Raid on cockroaches.

Unfortunately, this is true, although MATY seems to remain relatively troll-free compared to other fora that I've visited. Somehow the trolls just seem to feel more comfortable trolling at PMBD. Oh well. Perhaps I'll try going back there in hopes that PirateBooty will keelhaul the offending parties. I do generally like the place.

Well, Be Less Stupid! (http://bluesoup.org/forum) was set up to be a sort-of replacement for PMBD with the added benefit that I will absolutely kick out any spammer 12-year-old morons as soon as I see them. :D

I dunno. It was enough to make me leave, and I'm not so easily discouraged. It takes A LOT to piss me off, but once I'm pissed off, that's it - I either leave or open up a can of whoopass. Since I had no real power to do the latter, I did the former. *sigh* There's a reason why I no longer moderate web fora.

A bunch of 12ish spammers took over, starting stupid topics and replying to every single thing anyone else posted, with something stupid, of course. Now, there isn't so much spam, but there's a whole lot of stupidity of differing degrees. Example: a poll topic about how the poster hates "noobs", with people discussing the definition of "noob" and other people waggling their fingers about how everyone should be nice and not call names tsk tsk. When I read a reply to another thread that said basically "I hope no one here would be that mean", and the poster was not summarily tarred and feathered for sounding like she was addressing a bunch of preschoolers, I realized it wasn't the place for me.

PMBD could use another BlueSoup-style cleansing.

Damn, and I was hoping things had actually gotten better. Silly me.

Heehee, but I guess there's a difference between FREEE STUFFZZ and free knowledge (like here at MATY).  I'm guessing they'd go for the STUFFZ, and it is my belief that most of them would be too illiterate to understand how to use the hacks here.  Therefore, FREEE STUFFFZZZ sounds much KEWLER to them. :)

IMHO it's actually gotten a little worse - before the last few weeks, when the handful of 12-ish people joined, the thread derailing was amusing and mostly friendly.  Now it's all ridiculous shitfights and each post attempting to be more verbose and pseudo-intellectual than the last.  Honestly, it's like watching a bunch of high-school dropouts trying to masquerade as college professors by using big words and criticizing each other's grammar and syntax.  I don't know whether the "I agree with everything that's been posted" (I swear to God that was a real post) and the "IM posters" were any worse.  I've only posted once or twice since Blue went nuclear - any desire to take part in the conversations going on there now is gone.  It's mostly because of one person (anyone that's watching the forum knows who I'm talking about) that apparently has so little self-esteem and such a shitty life that she has to take it out on random strangers online to feel like she matters.  (Sounds like some other dramawhores we know.)  If she gets banned I think PMBD will show some improvement.

I'm inclined to agree.  The one of the things I love about this site is simply the wealth of knowledge (including, but not limited to, actual technical discussion of the game mechanics instead of "...and this is called a "package" file.  You can identify "package" files by their filename, which ends in .package...")  I think the sheer number of polysyllabic words and acronyms would deter most of the prepubescents (and teenagers that ACT like prepubescents). -yes pescado, I know there is only 12 and 18  ::)

I'm curious about what happens to the money that was donated to the account that can't be accessed. Does PayPal just end up with my money?

It costs $25 to follow through on the claim process which is what I donated so there's not much point in disputing. Will JM ever be able to retreive those donations?
