Title: Ehh.. HTTP Cache Folder..? Whassat? -pokes with stick-
Post by: Strangel on 2007 January 09, 04:32:02
Can I safely delete this, or will I royally bork things? It has files titled "1162123615.jpg.cache" etc.

Also, I'm considering wiping out the innards of my Teleport folder. Again, would this be a good thing or a VBT?

The teleport folder contents are completely safe to delete. When you import stuff into the game, the temp files are created there until you complete the process within game. Sometimes I get rubbish left behind in that folder.

The other thing you mention I know nothing about.

-bleats out a thanks-

Oh, this topic may appear more than once as my comp is playing games with the intarweb. I'm watching for them and if they appear I'll smash them. Sorry for the possible flooding!

I think it's this site if you are suffering intermittent access issues. The cables that were damaged in the earthquake a couple of weeks ago are not yet all back online AFAIK.

Ooo.. Good to know. I feared some Un-Awesome-Haters-Of-Awesomeness were trying to play at being hackers and slow down the site. But yes, aside from this site running slow I keep having double or triple posting in certain sites. Generally, it fixes itself eventually.

Leave it to EA to declare 1 + 6 = 10.

How do you know Maxis doesn't work in base 7? That might explain any number of oddities.  ;D

-snicker- I've been asked that before. It's an old snide remark of mine about EAMaxis saying "Petzomg! Have TEN people/petz in your household!" When asked for clarification, they said YES, you could have a single sim and nine pets. Game comes out, lo and behold, EA math dictates 1 sim + 6 pets = no more Try For Puppy/Kitten.

..so much for my neighborhood breeders and my crazy cat lady.

HTTPCache is used to cache data gathered over HTTP. Not sure if it serves a real purpose in TS2 (maybe if you have your game set to auto-login and check for patches), but in SC4 (which uses an earlier version of the engine) the folder is used for this. If you delete it it will be restored.

The kitten thing is a stupid bug. Jase has a fix at the inteen site.

If you want more sims, dogs and cats than 7, 8, 10 or whatever, Jordi has updated a hack allowing many more family members. Up to 35 maybe?

Theoretically limitless (within lots). The 35 is for merging from the neighbourhood screen (and can be upped to a theoretical maximum of whatever the maximum value is -- 255 or 65k?).

I need to test it on uni (greek) lots though, I've not really had conclusive results yet.

So then I'm likely safe in emptying out the files that are in the folder?

Ohh, did they finally figure out how to get around it? Last I checked (admittedly a while back) there was only the "merge households" for adding cats and dogs, and while Try For Puppy/Kitten would show up, a lullabye was never played.

ok, where can I find that hack? I have one that allows as many household members as you want, but you still can't merge more than 8, and that sucks!

Edit.. Nm found it :)

You can find jordi's version here (http://www.modthesims2.com/creator/showthread.php?t=212448).  Squinge has some versions as well.  I think jordi's thread also explains that you need to edit your usercheats file thingamabob in order to allow the merging of households larger than 8.  The hack(s) themselves allow you to move or marry in sims and create a larger family, but those alone do not allow you to merge sims (from the neighborhood screen) into households that already have 8 sims.

ETA: Meh. I had to submit this twice... and I guess you found it during that time. Oh well. :P
