Title: Testers Wanted: Maxis downloads not as custom content (Bins)
Post by: Argon on 2006 October 22, 20:42:20
Basicly, I've screwed around with the Maxis downloads that aren't already in the HPP so they don't show up as custom content in the catalog. This is more of a proof of concept at the moment, I'm not done cleaning the duplicate animations and useless stuff out and grouping them into neat packages. However, this could also be useful for "How not to rape and bloat your packaged lots" since the game doesn't see it as custom content and won't add it to the lot file ^_~ I'l get around to finishing this later, but I'm too lazy at the moment.

postHPP_Bins.rar (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TW8AOO8A) (11.11 MB)

To install:
Extract to C:\-Path to Sims 2-\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Catalog\Bins

Included:
-Topiaries (building, dolphin, egg, llama, pyramid)
-GLS Preorder items (golden record, painting, tv)
-OFB Chicken Statue (needs OFB? yes, no, maybe? I haven't tried but Jordi says it works)
-Valentines poster
-Cupid statue
-pink teddy bear
-Run with sissors (update 2, to work with OFB)
-Gameday Guidon
-Divide etc. Screen
-Chinese lion statue
-Living Space Chair
-Urbs game

Not included:
-Any skins (including the chicken suit)
-Alienware pc
-HotRod car
-Fiat car
-Lycos dog collar (here (http://www.jeux.lycos.fr/events/avatar/) is the link Snooty Sims gave)
-Any items already in the HPP (I'll get to it eventually)
-Coca Cola Fridge, Pinball Machine, and shirt

Also:
Does anyone know if the "Pine for" interaction in the Cupid statue file works?

When I tried, skins don't work... -but I could have done something wrong- a possible solution would be to put all the textures/model/etc. in a .bundle.package file and leave the Property Set in the downloads folder of My Documents. It'd be less space if you played the game on multiple accounts anyway. *shrug*

Global mods will work fine if you just put them in the bin folder, I don't know for sure if you need to rename the last part to .bundle.package yet, but custom objects will need to be modified.

So, if we already have the custom items (like, say, the promo items) in our downloads, do we need to yank them back out when installing this?

Yes, you'd need to delete the ones in your download folder

This works. Very nice.

Thanks for doing Maxis' job.

Hope you can figure clothes out as well!

Does anyone know if the "Pine for" interaction in the Cupid statue file works?

It looks to me like a Group View (you invite someone to join or they join someone who is already Viewing). I haven't actually tested it, but it has limited availability (they need to be the same age, adults, a suitable romance target, etc.).

Is the Li'l Chimera's Plush Bunny-Bear included? I didn't see it in your list.

Actually that's not right, the bunny bear is in the HPP and I haven't gotten to the seperate downloads yet.

Ah, I hadn't realized that the bunny bear was in the HPP. That clears it up for me. This is a great project you have undertaken, and I plan to keep an eye on it. Using it now in Pets, myself. No problems whatsoever so far.

Clothes unfortunately don't seem work this way at all.
Even in the new Xmas pack Maxis has inserted the clothing in the 3d packages (mesh) and skins.package (property set).

But at least it works for the objects!

I said that, you'd need to create a package with just the Property set and maybe the 3d reference (hopes that's the right name, I don't remember) in the My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads folder.

---

Once I get the Glowman download from the Holiday Stuff preorders, I'll do a bin for those, in case anyone is interested.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd personally love to see any and all future downloads, preorder promotional or not, added to this project.

Question, though... Why weren't the Alienware PC, HotRod car, or Fiat car included? And what Lycos collar?

Because I haven't gotten to them yet ^_^'

They'll be added, but I have a few things to do for college first.

Edit: I just realized, I should keep them as seperate files for each object. Then it would be easier to update them for each new expansion if something comes up. I'll need to muck around with them for Pets, I know that chair isn't pets enabled... I'll get to work on it.

Ah, I see. I thought they were left out for some other reason, like the clothes that don't work right.

Keep up the good work!

Just reporting that the link is dead. Very dead.
