Title: ZOMGPets Job Fixes: Because Maxis Screwed The Pooch Again
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2006 October 18, 10:59:01
Could it possibly get any more broken? Could Maxis possibly pull off an even bigger Charlie Foxtrot? Yes. Very yes. Because while updating harderjobs-fixes, I found that they had screwed this up EVEN MORE, including breaking things that WEREN'T BROKEN IN THE FIRST PLACE and actually replacing previously functioning OFBp2 code with buggy pre-p2 code! It is simply completely and unexplainably FUBAR, and you need this.

Job Fixes for TS2PETSp0

Special Thanks To:
Hobbsee the Scrawny Pencil Neck
Fat, Hairy-Bellied Ness

Congratulations to: Draklixa!

INSTRUCTIONS:
Place in your MYDOCU~1\EAGAME~1\THESIM~1\DOWNLO~1 directory.

FEATURES:
Fixes a whole metric assload of brokenness relating to OFB jobs in TS2Pets,
as well as the preexisting problems in OFBp2
1. Teen OFB job now properly recognized.
2. OFB jobs no longer autopromote to invalid levels.
3. Retiring a pet now provides correct(?) pensions and doesn't demote your sim.
And all previously existing issues, like the retire exploit, teen hours bug,
and soforth.

COMPATIBILITY:
Compatible with all FFS hacks. For TS2Petsp0+ only! Replaces OFBp2
"harderjobs-fixes", as Maxis not only left all of those issues broken, they
made it even *MORE* broken! Required for harderjobs.

SIDE EFFECTS:
May cause computer damage, incontinence, explosion of user's head, coma, death,
and/or halitosis.

WARNING:
Do not open, crush, dispose of in fire, put in backwards, short-circuit, or mix
with non-awesome hacks - may explode, leak, or catch fire, resulting in injury
and/or death.

Dead link. Btw, once the initial frenzy of hack-checking is over might it be possible to have a list of "no change" and "updating required" hacks for all the hacks in this thread? I have around 100+ MATY hacks alone.

Most likely deliberate sabotage, I would say. EA coders hate their bosses, you know.  ;)

I already knew Pets would have been branched off OFB pre-patch code, but it puzzles me why they didn't merge back in the OFBp2 changes. After all, these were merged into the GLS code.
We're getting at least one Pets patch for sure.

Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2006 October 18, 15:10:32
I have no idea what you're jabbering about. Pets didn't even exist until very recently, WELL after any OFB patches or GLS.

Title: Re: ZOMGPets Job Fixes: Because Maxis Screwed The Pooch Again
Post by: Jelenedra on 2006 October 18, 15:57:19
Stupid EA. It would've taken them all of... 5 minutes? To patch the Petz code?

Although, one could argue that not everyone would have OFB and PETZ, so why include a fix for an EP they may not have?

I mean... besides... that it.. would.. make them ...responsible...

Does no age discrimination work for Pets now too? I adopted a stray dog who turned out to be an elder and it wouldn't let him get a job because he's an old dog. ::)

Title: Re: ZOMGPets Job Fixes: Because Maxis Screwed The Pooch Again
Post by: Venusy on 2006 October 25, 13:32:54
Sorry if this is a dumb question but I need to make sure. Does this hack actually make the jobs harder or does it work along with the harder jobs hack to do that, because my pets have the skills to get promoted and a full job performance bar but can't get promoted and I was wondering if it had something to do with this or not?
This hack does not make the jobs harder. The harderjobs package does not affect pet jobs (I think). Are your pets going to work in a good enough mood to get promoted?

Title: Re: ZOMGPets Job Fixes: Because Maxis Screwed The Pooch Again
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2006 October 25, 19:12:55
Because Pets lack the ability to get platinum mood, they will only rarely be promoted.

Hmm, the one pet I had get a career got promoted first try every time. But she is also lazy and very good at lounging around and keeping her needs and mood very high.

As far as I'm concerned, it's extremely easy to get pets promoted.  At this rate I'll have all the rewards unlocked without breaking a sweat.

My pets have no problems with jobs, so make sure you're not using outdated hacks. Old pre-Pets versions of noagediscrimination can cause this.

Title: Re: ZOMGPets Job Fixes: Because Maxis Screwed The Pooch Again

I have removed the old noagediscrimination and they now can get jobs BUT the carpool will not arrive.

Does this fix anything regarding pet jobs, or only sim jobs with the pets expansion? I've been having an issue where a dog that's run away lost her job by not showing up for work when it was impossible for her to GO to work (a feature? A stupid one IMO), and once a chance card told me my pet lost it's job for chosing wrong but was merely demoted (bad wording?)

Title: Re: ZOMGPets Job Fixes: Because Maxis Screwed The Pooch Again
Post by: Liss on 2006 November 02, 01:44:44
Ok my problem is solved and was in fact caused by a non awesome.  I had Jase's no teen jobs for elders floating around, and it wasn't my fault, as I didn't know it was there.  It hitchiked with something. :/  problem solved.

Post by: odettesmom on 2006 November 03, 23:47:16
Thanks for this.  I hope it helps my pets get a job.  Sims got the job for them but no car shows up.  And yes I have plenty of nonMATY hacks.   If this doesn't work, I'll start eliminating them.  Again, many thanks.

Since this hack is related to Job Fixes, I thought I could submit my problem here:

When a Sim calls a pet's employer to retire, the calling Sim's own carreer falls down back to a low-level job!

If this isn't a bug, I don't know what to call it...

I used to play with harderjobs before I installed Pets. I no longer have this hack in my game.
Before posting here, I made a quick search on the Sims 2 BBS - looks like I'm not the only one experiencing it.

Discovered bug to be worse than actually appears: Could potentially scramble a sim's job to an unrecognized level and explode your game in a big fiery ball visible from space. Fixed now. This is now a red-level fix as a result.

I was running the old Dizzy d2Check scanner today, and noticed that it turned up a potential conflict for this hack with harderjobs:

Code:
File: petsp0-jobfixes.package, conflicts:
Type = 53545223, Group = 7F8F4EB6, Instance = 12F in file harderjobs.package

I'm presuming there's no reason for concern, but wanted to make sure that was out there.

Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2006 November 16, 19:41:42
Doesn't actually cause any problems, since they're the same, but it is redundant, so I'll remove it from harderjobs.

Post by: Tamha on 2006 November 17, 01:42:15
As this is a Very Critical hack, you should have this one installed anyway. Unless you don't have Pets, which means you should have the OfB fixes. If you don't have OfB either, then I would assume you'd need a NL version of harderjobs, which probably won't get this change if it still needs it. (And assuming there is a pre-OfB harderjobs available).

Well, according to the RTFM:  "Required for harderjobs."

You should have this anyway...

This hack is required to use harderjobs. See "requires". If you have harder jobs, and don't have this, your game doesn't work. Actually, if you don't have this, your game just doesn't work, period. See "VERY CRITICAL" status.

Title: Re: ZOMGPets Job Fixes: Because Maxis Screwed The Pooch Again
Post by: V on 2006 November 17, 09:01:39
Okay, well, D'uh. I do have petsp0-jobfixes.package and the harderjobs.package. But when I read Kevin's quote:

I was running the old Dizzy d2Check scanner today, and noticed that it turned up a potential conflict for this hack with harderjobs:

Code:
File: petsp0-jobfixes.package, conflicts:
Type = 53545223, Group = 7F8F4EB6, Instance = 12F in file harderjobs.package

I'm presuming there's no reason for concern, but wanted to make sure that was out there.

I thought that this was referring to a hack named "Dizzy d2Check" - which I had never heard of  before (as a hack, because it is a program- again with the "D'uh" moment). And I was all concerned that a modification was being made to a perfectly good hack based on some hack I had never heard of before and wasn't at all sure that I wanted.

So please disregard my earlier question. I had a bad case of "eyes running ahead of the text". And I am off to update the new & improved harderjobs.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Heh, not really improved, just removed the redundant stringset to avoid it showing as a conflict, which was harmless.

I was having this error whenever a certain sim tried to get in their car to go to work. So I checked that all my hacks were up to date and petsp0-jobfixes was the one I needed to update. Initially, this seemed to fix the problem, but a couple of sim days later it's happening again.

anyway, I'll attach the log just in case.

I hope I'm Ok asking this question... I'm not very familiar with this site, and last time I posted here I got a RTFM reply telling me to look in comapability lists I didn't know were there... that I again don't know where are since I lost my bookmarks between OFB and now.. :)

Anyway...
Is this still needed or critical since the pets patch came out this month?

I have barely played since pets came out, and am only just now thinking to look here to see if anything horrid is happening with it...  :-\

Possibly because it's half 11 at night I'm quite confused by all this. I've not had a problem so far with my Pets game but to be honest I haven't played it that much and since I'm starting to play it more often now I don't want to risk it all going wrong. Should I download this and the harder jobs hack, or do I just need this?

Title: Re: ZOMGPets Job Fixes: Because Maxis Screwed The Pooch Again

Get this.  HarderJobs is your own decision.  Skip the patch.

Title: Re: ZOMGPets Job Fixes: Because Maxis Screwed The Pooch Again
Post by: Sivany on 2007 February 22, 09:52:10
Ok I downloaded this. I knew the time of night had something to do with my confusion because now looking again it seems so obvious that harder jobs is optional, not required.

I already made the mistake of patching pets once, even though usually I check everywhere before I patch to make sure it doesn't make things worse for some reason I didn't this time. I ended up having to reinstall pets and annoyingly I lost all my custom sims from the sim bin and all my custom houses, although I saved everything else. I don't know where the game stores those files and I still can't find them even now (since I've added new ones I mean).

Title: Re: ZOMGPets Job Fixes: Because Maxis Screwed The Pooch Again
Post by: miros on 2007 February 22, 14:57:06
When you uninstall Pets, the game tries to be helpful and delete all your Downloads and 'hoods, even though you intend to reinstall Pets without the patch.  I classify this under Stupid But True.

All your neighborhoods are in My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Neighborhoods.  Custom lots (anything in the Lot Bin) are in My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/LotCatalog.

Title: Re: ZOMGPets Job Fixes: Because Maxis Screwed The Pooch Again
Post by: Sivany on 2007 February 24, 07:46:51
I had backed up my neighbourhoods and downloads so that was all fine. It was my custom sims from the sim bin I was most annoyed about and I still don't know where those would have been. :-[

Thanks for the tip about the lot catalog though! Luckily at the same time as reinstalling Pets I moved everything on my computer to a new user profile (because the old one wouldn't load anymore) and when I deleted the EAGames folder from the old profile's 'My Documents' I happened to keep a backup of the lotcatalog file because I didn't know what it was. This means all my custom lots are safe and I can put them back in ;D

Post by: Sivany on 2007 February 25, 01:47:49
Oh I don't mean sims from occupied lots, I've just realised I think I'm calling it the wrong thing :-[ Ooops! You know when you create a sim in the game, next to the randomise button there's a button which opens up a catalog of ready made sims to choose from? I mean sims from in there. I had used SimPE to extract a whole range of sims into that collection, but now they have mostly all disappeared (just a few downloaded from the exchange back when I first started playing remain). I have a feeling they are lost forever. :(

Only if she made them herself in bodyshop, or cloned to remake any she downloaded and installed, or physically moved ones she might have downloaded after installing them. By default, premade sims that you install from a S2pack file, either with the bodyshop installer or the S2PCI, land in the Downloads folder.  :-\

So according to what you said, myskaal, the ones she extracted using SimPE would be in the SavedSims folder, correct?

I tried to post this in the relevant thread for the hack, but got the scary skeleton.  First time for me!  :o

Anyway, I'm not sure if this is intentional?  Does sending them to work break something else?

I see it was updated in December, but I only now have a single mother deeply in debt.  My other families are too rich as it is; I don't bother working those expectant mothers.  I'm pretty sure the older version (which I deleted a few weeks ago) allowed pregnant sims to drive to work if they only had the first bump.

If it helps any, I'm running EPs up to Seasons, unpatched.

You do realize that she'll get paid even if she doesn't go to work, right? Even if it's a day off for her.

Yes, I did know that, but the promotion bonus is massive compared to a day's wage.  Especially if the sim is plat anyway, it's practically a loss not to send them to work.  That, and the fact that the sim in question has a 60+K mortgage on which she pays loan shark rates of 10% compounded daily, neither she nor her descendants will be choosing to take a day off for a looong time.  ;D

Anyway, I was mainly concerned that a fix (as opposed to a feature like macrotastics, or harderjobs) borks something that EAxis didn't get around to themselves.  Yet. :D

Curiously, I had noticed this disappeared also. Investigating more closely, I discovered that one bug I fixed apparently "broke" this "undocumented feature". Apparently, they weren't supposed to be able to, but since the check was busted, they could. I will reinstate this "feature", given that I don't like their whiny asses lounging around any better than you do. EAxis: It's not a bug, it's a feature!

Does this mean that I can remove the "getincarpregnant" hack that I have carried around since 2005? Does anybody have any idea where I got that thing? I think it was one of the first ones that I went out in search of.

No idea. It is non-awesome, and I don't see why it is needed, since getting in the car has never been prohibited.

Did Maxis finally unfux0r this code in FreeTime?  Parts of your fix seem to have materialized almost verbatim in FreeTime's Sub - Get Paid (revision 2B).

Nope, still broken. The results for the teen-hours ownable business job, for instance, still returns erroneous pay results.

Turn on the testing cheats, get an error log when the sim normally 'jumps', and attach it here (see the FAQ in the Podium on how to do this if you don't know).
